I am supporting what a previous reviewer noted these are only starter cartridges, not full ones (it says so on the packaging that the cartridges come in). Again, while it doesn''t bother me that they are starter cartridges, I would have liked to know that that is what I was paying for the non-disclosure to the customer in the product listing is unacceptable. The full cartridges appear to be the same model number, as is the listing posted by the other reviewer, so how am I supposed to know that 400 pages = a starter cartridge?Other than that, the first one inserted into my printer appears to be working fine. And the shipping to Canada was very reasonably-priced, and very fast (about 1 week!). So thank you for that.

Be sure to review the Seller Notes before buying. Amazon makes them hard to find but they are out there. TonerPals does not include retail box so expiration date cannot be checked. BEWARE!!!I only have second-hand reports as to the good quality of this ink, but I have first-hand experience that suggests the distributor here is storing them in a truly horrible manner. Right when I opened the package I saw that one cartridge had leaked inside its shrink-wrap. So I called Amazon, and after a bit of a go-around with a newbie agent, another agent refunded my money. I then proceeded to use the second cartridge. It lasted all of fifty pages and then the black, ONLY the black, faded out over a couple of pages and then disappeared altogether. Ink levels show it as full, but four cleanings produced nothing but blackless printing. From my technical background, I surmise that these cartridges were stored in a metal shed in the desert of Arizona (where the distributor is located), in the ATTIC of that shed where they reached temperatures approaching or surpassing the boiling point. Caused one cartridge to blow up and the other one''s ink to cook to a goo that has jammed up the works. If that stuff gummed up the printer, the company will be billed for repairs as well.

First ink cartridge I got was a bogey. Nothing printed, not even on both cartridges. Had to get a replacement from Amazon (btw Amazon, you''re awesome). Don''t forget to clean the printer after you''ve installed your cartridges, sometimes nothing will print until you clean it a few times. (Yes, I did do it for my first package)Nothing really much to say about it. It''s ink cartridges. For your Brother Printer. It''s an OK price for ~$15 a pack, it''s not a horrible price, but it''s not that great either. One thing you should note, is that the cartridges hold much more ink that the printer says it does.
The way the ink is read, is through the little window that you can see by pulling the front forward. When the ink says it''s out, tilt it and see if there''s any. If there is, all you have to do is cover the window up (I did it with electrical tape) and the printer will see it as "full" (it''s not full of course). Just keep printing until you run out of ink, and then swap it :)

I was wrong. If you look at the skin tone, Plus paper is little off and it is very annoying. Caucation will have pinkish skin tone, east asian will have greenish skin tone on "Plus" paper. unlike this "Pro" paper, which is accurate just like shown on the computer monitor.
Don''t compromise on paper to save few cents. Make it worthwhile for spending Hundreds dollar on camera and printer.
After all, it''s the printed paper that gets the most exposure to friends and family.

This paper is wonderful. Looks better or as good as Kodak real photo processing. Can''t tell the difference from real photos from ones printed on this paper on a Canon i860 printer.Tried Kodak paper for printing and prints looked washed out... even in Best quality mode using Kodak or Canon software. Printing in normal mode, default printing, photos come out beautiful on the Canon paper using the Canon Easy Photo Print.

I have tried several other brands of paper to print pictures on from home. NONE compare to the quality photos you get with this Canon Paper. They look as good as any pictures you get professionally developed at any store. When my HP printer finally croaked after three years of use, I did a great deal of research on printers as the ink costs can be prohibitive. We use our home printer a *lot* as we homeschool and find ourselves doing a lot of crafty printables for kids'' birthday parties and scouting volunteer projects.I read a great number of reviews on Brother''s quality and very competitive ink prices, and have been very satisfied. The only problem with the printer is that when you put in a memory card, it takes a long time to browse the photos. This is not a problem if you have a small memory card, but with a large collection of photos on a card it is impractical to browse the photos quickly enough, and even going from one photo to the next takes quite a few seconds. The onscreen menus for editing/changing photos is also quite limited. The best way to use the printer is to download the photos off your memory card onto a computer, select the ones you want to print, and dump them onto another memory card. Then, insert that into the printer and press the PRINT-ALL button.
A final note: this printer uses a special type of Samsung cartridge and Samsung paper that you have to buy as a bundle. You should only purchase this printer if you live in a place geographically close to a supplier that stocks it for a reasonable price, otherwise it is a hassle.

I''ve gotten maybe 100 photos off the SPP-2040 so far and continue to be amazed at the quality. Takes a full 60 seconds for one print but it''s fun to watch as the photo paper passes through 4 times to lay down each of the primary colors and a black. Costs about 39 cents a print if you buy replacement paper and ribbons in quantity.I could hook it up to my PC with a USB cable but it''s so much easier to just slide in a camera''s memory card and print off of that. Supports all 7 of the popular memory cards including some I''d thought were proprietary. The unit is tiny enough to fit handily into a briefcase and I''ve gotten in the habit of taking it along whenever I travel. Blows away friends when I take a picture of their cat and present them with the finished photo a couple minutes later.
On/off switch stopped working the first week. Now have to poke inside with a ballpoint to activate the microswitch in the printer circuit board. And replacement paper and ribbons are not easy to find; none of the big Electronic and Office Supply chains seem to carry them. Samsung doesn''t seem to have built the dealer network that the other photo printer makers have.
Overall, a remarkable machine.

Everything about this printer is great, including the packaging. Though I am not one to be hung up on something as small as packaging, I would have to say they did an elegant job with this product. It even reminded me of similar packaging you would find in Apple brand products. Anyhow, setting this printer up on a Macintosh can be difficult. If you are running Mac OS X 10.4 you may need to download and install an updated version of the Common Unix Printing System, better known as Cups. Otherwise, you may be stuck with a "printer not responding" message. After I learned how to fix the printing issue everything was smooth sailing. For one, it''s a dye thermal printer so you don''t have any inkjet cartridges to become clogged resulting in bad prints. After sending the print command, It quickly sucks the paper back and forth four times, each time laying down a different layer of dye until your left with a final print which is indistinguishable from a lab quality print. One other issue is the fact that you have to set up your document using the Page Setup dialog box or your printer will somehow think you are printing on 8.5x11 or some other size that it doesn''t accept. Be sure to set it to "Postcard" or "Poscard Borderless" AND set the page orientation. Anyhow, besides the couple small issues I am more than happy with this product. You can produce beautiful prints quickly and easily that will wow yourself and friends.

It''s definitely a tiny printer. I submitted a photograph of it next to a water bottle and an iPod to the gallery at the top. So far, I haven''t had any issues with it, but there are some things about it that I don''t like.Pros:
Very small, especially when the various trays are folded up.
Pretty fast.
Good print quality.
Cons:
The top paper feed tray folds up and back at about a 45 degree angle. It makes the printer take up a bit more space than I''d like.
The printer doesn''t automatically turn on or off. My old printers would automatically turn on when I print something and turn off after a few minutes.
Pretty expensive compared to regular printers.
Overall, it''s a good buy if space is at a premium or you need something portable. The quality is good and, so far, I haven''t had any issues with paper jams or lockups.

This printer is billed as being a portable printer, with the option of wireless connection. That''s what I wanted a wireless mobile printer. I know I should have checked further and found the other models with all the capabilities. But I didn''t. This "moblile printer" has to be plugged in to 115 V, because it has no battery. (Batteries are extra, or are included with an upgraded model.) It also doesn''t come with a wireless adapter card Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. (Wireless adapters are extra, or are included with an upgraded model.) So, this "mobile printer" has to be plugged in to the wall and to your computer. That doesn''t make it very mobile. In fact there are great ink jets for 1/2 the price that are available if you want to plug in cables. The CF slot on this printer is Type I, which is not noted anywhere on Amazon. The industry standard Wireless G cards are Type II, so they don''t fit. Only the special HP Wireless G card is Type I, but even that isn''t noted anywhere on Amazon. Buy the HP 460wf (wi-fi) or the HP460wbt (Bluetooth) instead. They include a battery and a wireless card. By the way, the printer itself is very good. I have no problems at all with this printer. It takes up very little space, is lightweight, and easy to set up and use. Though the battery and wireless card with our printer model were optional, I don''t see any problem upgrading. It prints B@W very fast faster than my HP Photosmart C4810 All-in-One. It worked perfectly with our Dell laptop.

this new version is no good at all. paper is yellowish, rough, satin finish, produces dull, washed out images.
i have no idea what paper to suggest as a replacement to the original Q1987A, but this sure isn''t it!!!!!

Like others here, I''ve been using this product (or, I should say, this product number) for years. It provided very good handling of photos and text for a relatively lightweight, 2 sided paper. Yes, there was some variability in print density from one batch to the next, but it was easily dealt with.I just bought a new package, same SKU as before (Q1987A, made in Germany) but the product inside is completely different! A distinctly yellow white vs. the previous brilliant white and a sort of stippled "gloss" surface - really more satin than gloss. Also, the ink pickup is a LOT lighter than before, requiring that I crank up the density adjustment on my computer to the max just to get decent-looking text.
This new product is not acceptable.
Out of desperation, I tried some Office Depot private label gloss brochure paper. After some fiddling with the print profile, it printed much better than the "new" HP actually pretty close to the old HP.
Traditionally, HP has been the gold standard for inkjet papers. (Their Premium Plus Photo is certainly my favorite in that department.) This disaster with the brochure paper is just bizarre. I''d love to hear their explanation.

I have used HP brochure/flyer paper for about ten years and I just ran out. I bought what is supposed to be the same product, same number , weight, brightness etc and IT IS HALF AS GLOSSY AS BEFORE and not at all the quality of the previous great product. I bought this paper thinking it was the same as the older version and it was not. It was not even close. I still have sheets from my old box and when those ran out I put in the new sheets and was shocked at the difference. The pictures were not as bright and crisp the paper is not nearly as good of a quality as the older stuff and not nearly as white. It is more of an antique white and trust me, it makes a huge difference. Don''t buy this paper if you want your projects to turn out well. I will be searching for a new brand.Save 6% off

I gave up trying to use new aftermarket color tonor as I cannot find a good brand that works consistently.I finally gave up and went back to using overpriced OEM tonor, at least they do not make a mess out of my printer that is a nightmare to clean up, and they always print very nice.
