I''ve had this unit replaced twice now.

In theory, this is an awesome product. When it''s working, it very quickly scans large documents to a network location, which is great. The problem is that, most of the time, it suffers from multiple-feeds and paper jams. The paralegals in our office have resorted to single-page feeding this unit instead of putting a stack in and letting it run.

I''m not sure who did the QA testing on this scanner. The 220p has occasional jams but seems to work pretty well once the rollers are broken in. This version, however, has never worked as expected.

In short, it cost us a whole ton on money to buy a scanner that doesn''t work as advertised. The unit creates more problems than it solves.

In addition, the setup is non-intuitive. I hold MCSA/MCSE and SEC+ certifications and it took me a good afternoon to get everything up and running properly. The Fax portion needs to be removed, it''s useless to anyone who isn''t actually running a fax server in the office. Having the button on the primary interface is confusing. The email option only works with an open-relay, which is useless to 99% of all email setups. LDAP address book integration is limited to something like 99 contacts, which is unhelpful considering the size of most contact lists in the internet age.

I haven''t done alot of printing even tho I bought this back at the beginning of the year. Recently bought an Olympus 3020 and printed some "1st day of school" pictures. I use Epson photo quality inkjet paper to do a first print test (720 dpi), then print final on Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper (1440 dpi). If I put the "test" pics in a frame, no one would know that they were not printed at a lab. The glossy''s (8x10s and 5x7s) fool everyone I show if I didn''t tell them it was on my printer, they''d never know (of course the camera helps too). Haven''t seen a need to use the 2880 dpt yet.

Mine came with software Film Factory which is semi-easy to learn but easy to use after that. Even tho a full sheet of paper could hold 2 5x7s or 4 4x6s, the s/w won''t let me lay the print out that way. I get 2 5x7s by printing one at very top, then turn paper upside down and print again (after 1st print is dry).

If it''s not used often, the heads can become clogged. Does go through ink, so I always have replacement ready (color mostly have yet to replace the BW). I only use for photo printing. Have another for text so cannot say how it does there.

Using the USB port and can''t really say I''ve ever timed a print. I usually go and do something else while I wait I had a print freeze after 2/3 done when I went to do something else on the PC at the same time, so now I just leave it alone (system is W2k, AMD XP 1800, 512 DDR memory so the system is not anemic).

Had a few problems trying to get the USB driver set up and recognizing the printer, but after a few attempts at loading the drivers it all came together. Even w/these few problems, it deserves a 5.

I have always been partial to Canon and Lexmark printers, but the Epson Stylus 820s blew my mind away. Never had i had the ease of setting up a printer in seconds (i am not kidding...i really mean less than a minute). It has both parallel and USB connectivity, fantastic color print even on normal paper. And get this, the contents of the package include some photo glossy paper. Aside from the fact that it looks cool, it is not noisy like other printers i have used. It also spits out text documents in little or no time. The printer boasts of a feature called Print Imaging Matching (P.I.M), which greatly enhances printouts of digital pictures in outstanding quality..up tp 2800 x 720 dpi. But enough said, i could go on and on and bore people....if you are scouting around for an affordable color ink jet printer but desire just as much quality, look no further than the Epson Stylus 820s. This printer is good but slow. Good things come to those who wait though. You can hardly see the dots compared to HP, I won''t even dare compare lexmark''s ... output. HPs I''ve used also has banding which is very noticeable. I always get a "WOW" from people on glossy paper from non Epson photo users. 6 color inks do make a difference because even Epson users with 4 color printers notice the difference. ... The epson 820 prints only last for 1 year at best if displayed and not laminated. If I hang them on a door that is exposed to florescent light 24x7 it fades fast. When I keep them in one of those folders for pictures in good tempurature and conditions they look just as good, even 3 years from now.

Having a Epson Stylus Color, Photo 780 and now the Photo 820, I can tell you that this is the slowest of them all. (using the same G4 Titanium Powerbook. Printing out photo quality may make you wonder if it is even on...don''t cancel the job thinking it crashed the first time you use it like I did. That said, the print quality is respectable and the price is great (free if you buy a system). See Consumer Reports latest issue...up to 12 minutes for a photo quality sheet!

Epson thought their unique print head design would set their products apart, allowing superior quality prints. Instead, it''s their printers'' Achilles heel: because the print heads are not part of the ink cartridge, you can''t just switch cartridges to fix a messed-up print head, and there''s no way to get at the heads to clean them manually. With Epson printers, when your heads are badly clogged, there''s not much you can do except bring it to a repair shop. Maybe not even that.

This printer has had chronic problems with clogging, constantly showing stripes of missing color. The heads have needed to be cleaned almost every time I''ve printed anything, and I''ve spent at least 1/3 of each (expensive) ink cartridge just cleaning the heads, that process uses amazing amounts of ink. This week, the heads seem to be permanently gunked shut. I hadn''t printed anything in color in about 5 weeks, and each of the five colors is now either stripey or completely blocked, no matter how many times I run the "clean" routine.

Another stupid design choice: when just one of the 5 colors of ink runs out, you have to replace ALL FIVE. That''s ridiculous. Unless you''re Epson and want to make a killing on ink sales, that is.

Save yourself a lot of trouble, and avoid poorly designed printers -like this one.

My IT people bought me the HP 2100 for use as a personal printer in my university office. I liked it so much that I bought one for my home office to replace an old HP 4L. It has been an excellent purchase and I highly recommend this printer. When working at home, I now have the print speed to download and print out legal decisions from the web or Lexis, which was too painful to contemplate with the slow speeds of the HP 4L. I get 8-10 pages per minute regardless of whether the printer is set for draft or top quality modes. So only the longest legal decisions take more than a couple of minutes. Of course, as a law professor, I''m not often printing out graphics intensive files. Charts and figures do slow down the print speed some, so a more graphics intensive user might want to look at alternatives. I''m also not using it in a network environment at home and, at work, I don''t share it with other users. So, again, your mileage may vary.

Both of my HP 2100 have been extremely reliable. They are quiet, the paper never jams, they have a reasonably large main paper tray, handle single sheet feeds fine. I''ve generated several camera ready texts on my HP 2100 using the top quality print settings and had no complaints from readers or publishers, So for a low-volume, mostly text setting, this seems like an ideal printer.

This was our first laser printer for our home office. We opted to get the non networked version and add the faster tbase100 network card which we found online for 1/4 of HP''s price. Amazone had lowest price on this printer and free shipping to boot (I see price has gone up a little since we bought it) Contrary to some of the rewiews here fan only runs when it is printing so it is not a distraction. Warmup time is not too bad about 15 sec. It really shines on large printing jobs pumping them out very fast. I really like the 4 pages per sheet mode for printing archives althought this slows it way down, we are adding memory...to overcome this. B&W pictures are very clean. Overall we are very satisfied with this printer. Only improvement would be to include a fast network card instead of the T10 card that comes in the 2100TN (No card comes in this reviewed model) Well done HP!

It includes the fuser kit and three rollers for the main paper tray, which are supposed to be replaced when you replace the fuser kit. The kit itself is easy to install--just open up the compartment, push the slides up to unlock the old kit, pull the old kit out, drop the new one in, push the slides back down to lock it in place, and close the compartment back up.

While most people will probably need to replace the fuser kit when the old one reaches its life expectancy, I had to replace mine because the old one was causing paper jams. Originally I ordered the White T-shirt transfers and used them on lighter colored shirts (but not white) and the transfers looked pretty crappy. I just thought that was the way these type of transfers looked. But, one of mine got screwed up so I had to order another pack and decided this time I''d use the Dark Transfers since the replacement shirt I bought was a darker color and let me tell you, that made a WORLD of difference. I used this item to create for a costume for a charity dinner I did a skit in. The print I needed tranferred great and the whole process of the iron-on worked just like in the instructions. I would reccommend keeping the heat low on the iron, a little color did bleed because I had the heat too high.

Also, I''m not sure how permanent this iron is. I easily peeled off the transfer shortly after I used the costume. For my purpose that was good, I could reuse the shirt. If your looking for a more permanent transfer this item may not be the best?

I bought these to make some t-shirts for a family picnicplanned on words and a picture. All in black and white since I wanted to save on ink. Well, they look silly on color because it basically looks like I pasted an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper onto the front of the shirt. I ended up buying the transparent "white" transfer papers (half the cost) and used them, they worked great! yes, you can see the blue shirt where there is no text, but isn''t that the point?

It comes with 5 sheets plus the special paper you need to put over the transfer when you iron it. REMEMBER TO LEAVE THE PAPER ON WHILE IT COOLS! My first one would have come out a lot better if I had remembered that instruction.

I ordered this scanner to enhance a "less paper" office. We have 5 Canon DR-2050c''s for desktop use as well as a Xerox copier that can scan bulk projects to the server. However, the Canon DR-2050C was proving to be not enough capacity for the volume of scanning our secretary was performing. This HP was the right price from Amazon for the speed, volume and ease of use it provided. I highly recommend this product. A side note, our original model made a high pitched screeching noice when purchased. HP was fantastic, overnighted a whole new top half of the scanner to us and told us to keep the old for parts! Not too bad for service from HP!

This scanner is great for managing your home office paperwork and some pictures. Is not a great picture scanner but does an OK job for emailing stuff and Facebook type stuff. I would recommend a flatbed scanner for saving higher quality pictures.

The software packaged with the scanner is top notch. You can scan a document and add it to an existing document stack with no problem. The stack can be a pdf document too. The software adopts the My Documents structure (not sure if it does so automatically or if its a setting) and allows you to scan directly to particular folder.

Just scratching the surface of this product but so far I am very satisfied.

* One Star for the CEO of VISIONEER(c). "I" got the unit to work. It was blurry. Tech support was useless. I even talked to the CEO of the Visioneer and he complained that "I" took up too much of his tech support team in finding his problem. It was a fix THEY should have known about. Instead of focusing on the problem, HE considered our "team" effort of finding and resolving the problem, a problem. We have a term for people like this in the Marines, A554*1@. He should have thanked me for finding the problem and paid me for my time HIS tech support waisted.

I''ve never forgotten the disreprect this man showed toward the Corps, and will always NOT recommend his scanner, even though it would be great in the field. It doesn''t even come with a dust sleeve like the Road Warrior did.

And yes, I still use it for 1000''s of Marines a year. 1000''s. But recommend nobody get the disrespect NOT deserving of this excuse for a professional.

I bought this scanner and immediately noticed that one side scanned great while the other side scanned fuzzy. I tried to adjust the settings all day long but couldn''t focus the scanner on the one side, since I purchased a dual sided scanner it is important for me to be able to scan both sides as best as possible. So, I returned it and exchanged it for another one (same model) thinking it might have been an issue with that particular scanner. When the new one arrived it was worse. The one side still scanned fuzzy, but the "good side" now scanned with a lot of lines. I tried for hours to make the lines go away and nothing. I am now sending this one back too. I will consider other scanners since this one disappointed.

I''m keeping this scanner, only because it''s lightning fast and works great with Twain Multiple Acquire. However, if you''re an inexperienced and easily frustrated Windows user, you may end up throwing this against the wall before you get it working. I only thought about that, three different times. But since I''m a propeller head, I kept trying. Firstly, the quick start instructions were printed on one of those Huge 20" x 30" sheets of paper, folded so that each fold makes up a page. As you open the first fold, it says "Quick Start". I figured those two pages were the quick start part for impatient owners. So I followed it, where it ends with "Now turn on your scanner". Win7 failed to install it. Page 3 says "DON''T TURN ON YOUR SCANNER UNTIL TOLD TO"??? I then opened up the entire instructions, noticed my 2nd page was actually the 2nd step, and who ever designed it intended you to read across the top pages and carriage return to the 2nd row of pages. I thought it was like a Newspaper (top to bottom). REALLY BAD DESIGN to save money. Next when I did follow the instructions in the right order, I put in the CD and it went to install the drivers, and just ended and said "failed to install" (first thought to toss it against the wall). When I said Cancel, it said "Are you sure you want to Cancel?". YES. It went on and installed the rest of the software without the drivers (second thought to toss it against the wall). I immediately jumped to their web site figuring the CD is old. I did find lots of software and drivers for Win7. I started over with it, including a Hidden Devices EXE. They don''t explain what that is or when you need it, but I went through and manually deinstalled all software from them. Ran Hidden Devices, which looks around for some of their drivers, then takes you to Device Manager for your do delete any "hidden" versions of their drivers. I then tried their Web installs. It installed everything OK but wouldn''t feed in the calibration sheet (bad sign). I figured I''d try it anyway. Every time I inserted a document it said "Scanning". Then said "User has canceled Scan" (I didn''t). (third thought to toss it against the wall). Being wise and patient, I deinstalled everything. Visioneer has had a LONG history of poor installs and they continue to seemingly be unable to even deisntall their own software properly (same experience on a Strobe XP 100). It got so bad in the old days, you had to use RegEdit and delete keys. Well, hidden devices worked OK in this regard I think. I''m still puzzled because MANY other companies know exactly what to do to remove their old software, and install their new, right from within Installshield? Rookies. After about 8 years, they still haven''t figured it out and had to write that Hidden Devices kludge. At this point I rebooted and decided to try the CD again. Now it worked fine and went all the way through all installs and read the calibration paper (good sign). However, the One Touch from the old days was clear, set your size and auto feed scans to that size. I couldn''t get it to do a very good job and I had to press scan to start a scan. I wanted to just start feeding sheets and it takes care of scanning and writing it to a file. I can''t stop with both hands trying to feed my paper, just to click SCAN with my mouse! My old strobe would scan on insertion? This is really bad, but it WAS scanning finally. I killed their program and fired up my fav Image software and tried a Multiple Twain Acquire. You have to kill their OneTouch systray program or it will put you in a deadly embrace with the Twain driver, and you''ll be forced to kill your imaging software. (I''ll look for a setting to not start it at Start up) FINALLY........ by using Multiple Twain Acquire, I got to where I wanted: a panel that let me easily scan via auto feed, sheet after sheet after sheet. It autosized each scan, stopping at the bottom automatically, cropping accordingly. It did duplex about half the speed but was easy to switch back and forth from simplex, at the click of a button. Deskew worked good. 200 dpi was fuzzier than the my old Strobe XP 100. Higher dpi might be better. Also their duplex times are deceptive, they claim only a fraction of a second more for the reverse side. They make it sound like it''s 5 secs for simplex but 5.3 secs for duplex. But it''s really both the front and back times added together for 10.3 secs. It seems almost faster to flip the document over. But duplex DOES work. It has convenient controls for exposure and such right on the Twain control panel. If you try to feed your next doc in too soon it says "scanning page 2" but if you pull that page out, it never gives up waiting on it, and your only option is cancel, which tosses your first page. HOWEVER, it is so darn fast I could hardly keep up with it. It also does a great job orienting your image and trimming it. I did all my scans in half the time, just the first night. So I''m keeping it. But only because I had to fight this puppy to work the way I wanted to. OK for Win7 64-bit. I recommend Twain but will continue to test their mysterious, non-intuitive One Touch software. Oh yeah, you know where they say "Use A/C power *OR* USB Power"? Well you know what that REALLY is?? They give you a SECOND USB cable with a power plug on the end. So to go without A/C you have to use up TWO USB ports. Why does everyone else know how to get power out of USB, but these guys couldn''t figure it out unless they use a 2nd USB port? Caveat Emptor.

I bought this printer at the bequest of a customer for his home office install. It works great and the Bluetooth option is worth getting! Basically the only difference between the 460C, 460WF and 460WBT is the type of card includes for the Compact Flash slot. WF has a Wireless CF card, and the WBT has a Bluetooth CF Card. If your laptop is bluetooth capable and WBT option is great no wires and setup literally takes 5 mins. The printer turns on quickly (the self test is only a few seconds) and printing is very fast for an inkjet. Quality is par with other inkjets (not laser quality but very close). I highly recommend this printer for travellers or people who need something with small footprint for small spaces or those who want something light/sleep looking. HP came up with a winner with the 460c.

It''s definitely a tiny printer. I submitted a photograph of it next to a water bottle and an iPod to the gallery at the top. So far, I haven''t had any issues with it, but there are some things about it that I don''t like.

Pros:

Very small, especially when the various trays are folded up.

Pretty fast.

Good print quality.

Cons:

The top paper feed tray folds up and back at about a 45 degree angle. It makes the printer take up a bit more space than I''d like.

The printer doesn''t automatically turn on or off. My old printers would automatically turn on when I print something and turn off after a few minutes.

Pretty expensive compared to regular printers.

This printer is billed as being a portable printer, with the option of wireless connection. That''s what I wanted a wireless mobile printer. I know I should have checked further and found the other models with all the capabilities. But I didn''t. This "moblile printer" has to be plugged in to 115 V, because it has no battery. (Batteries are extra, or are included with an upgraded model.) It also doesn''t come with a wireless adapter card Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. (Wireless adapters are extra, or are included with an upgraded model.) So, this "mobile printer" has to be plugged in to the wall and to your computer. That doesn''t make it very mobile. In fact there are great ink jets for 1/2 the price that are available if you want to plug in cables. The CF slot on this printer is Type I, which is not noted anywhere on Amazon. The industry standard Wireless G cards are Type II, so they don''t fit. Only the special HP Wireless G card is Type I, but even that isn''t noted anywhere on Amazon. Buy the HP 460wf (wi-fi) or the HP460wbt (Bluetooth) instead. They include a battery and a wireless card. By the way, the printer itself is very good. But I hate the way it is being marketed!

I have no problems at all with this printer. It takes up very little space, is lightweight, and easy to set up and use. Though the battery and wireless card with our printer model were optional, I don''t see any problem upgrading. It prints B@W very fast faster than my HP Photosmart C4810 All-in-One. It worked perfectly with our Dell laptop.

I really love the size of the HP Deskjet 460c mobile printer. It prints clearly and quickly. The only thing I don''t like, is that if it is installed for USB connection, you can not use it wirelessly, you have to reinstall it and set it up for wireless use.
