We have had this all-in-one for about a month now. It is great! It makes great photocopies, scanned images and prints from our computer with ease. The one thing that I like the most, however, is that the inks are in separate and inexpensive tanks. When the yellow runs out, you just replace the yellow . . . imagine that! Also, the ink tanks are super inexpensive when I find them here on Amazon or on Ebay. Shop around a bit and you will see what I mean.

I would definitely purchase this unit again.

Be careful, the description of this printer is incorrect, it is not a "wireless" printer. I checked it out on the Brother Manufacturing website, and no where in the description does it say anything about being a wireless printer on their website. I bought this printer, and found out the hard way. I had to return it, which was no problem with Amazon''s easy returns. It was just frustrating because I had to order another printer and wait for that one to come.

Want Brother DCPJ125 Color Photo Printer with Scanner and Copier Discount?

I just bought the DCP-J125 a few days ago from my local Pamida (on sale for $49.95 w/instant rebate), and I''m fairly happy with it so far. Mind now, I''m coming to color inkjet multifunction printers after nearly a decade of separate monochrome laser printers & standalone scanners, so just having color printouts at all is still a bit of a novelty for me. I was concerned about ink cartridges being more expensive per page than laser toner; however, I immediately placed an order for 3rd-party compatible ink cartridges via eBay after I got this machine set up & running, and got enough ink cartridges to print out roughly the same number of pages as one of my old laser printer''s compatible toner cartridges -for about the same price (approx. $23.00 including shipping for 6 black & 3 each cyan/magenta/yellow). I feel confident I can get similarly good deals for ink cartridges here on Amazon as well.

I don''t much care for the Paperport software which came with this machine (too complex for my needs, plus the publisher won''t support it, since it''s an older version bundled with hardware). However, the BookScan Enhancer/Whiteboard Enhancer software (also included with the DCP-J125) is a godsend for me as an eBay seller, since most of my product "photos" are actually scans of book/DVD/software covers. It makes use of the very simple scanning utility from the Brother Control Center to scan (f.ex.) a book cover, and then automatically crops, resizes & applies minor "fixes" to the image in just a couple of clicks, all without having to leave the BookScan Enhancer program. (I had been getting similar results with my old hardware, but had to use separate programs to scan the item & edit the image -a much more time-consuming process.)

I''m not crazy about the paper input compartment only holding 100 sheets (my laser printers, a Samsung ML-2510 Monochrome Compact Personal Laser Printer and a Brother HL-1640, each held 250 sheets); however, it does help keep the overall size of the device down (it just barely fits across one end of the repurposed TV cart I use for a printer cart). The paper path seems pretty straightforward & uncomplicated (not as many bits to open to clear a paper jam as there were with the laser printers). At $50, this is cheaper than any standalone replacement scanner I could get, and bundling the printer & scanner into 1 device frees up a big chunk of my desktop.

Amazon''s description of this as being "wireless" is inaccurate; in fact, it seems to be the ONLY current-model inkjet multifunction device Brother makes that ISN''T wireless. It also has no fax capability -something I don''t need but others might. I would suggest sending college students off with a slightly fancier Brother MFP model (such as the Brother Black Compact Inkjet All-in-One with Fax and Wireless Networking (MFCJ265W) ), for the sake of the increasingly common wireless networks at most college campuses. However, for at-home use for families, Gr. K-12 students, and very frugal micro-sellers like myself, it seems like a sweet little MFP, and I''m looking forward to making its acquaintance more fully in the coming months.

This printer works very well. Instructions were easy and software loaded with No problem and works great. Replacing the paper when it runs out is a very easy task. Also take note....the ink is very well priced and the easiest I have changed on a printer, and I have had many. Very happy with this printer.

HP 60 Black Inkjet Cartridge, 1 x black - 200 pages

I am now on my second 60 cartridge in the HP F4280 all in one printer. I haven''t counted the actual pages because that would depend on the ink density. Suffice it to say that I am only getting 50 to 75 copies of average density documents out of this ink cartridge. It is not refillable because of the memory it carries of ink levels, as displayed on the printer''s front panel. Although the printer was inexpensive, the ink will break the bank and at 4ml for $16.00, that would equate to a 12 oz (360ml) bottle of beer costing almost $1,450. Not too consumer friendly.

I whole-heartedly concur with all those who have a beef with how little printing you get out of a cartridge for this printer. I have barely getting 100 pages out of this printer (DeskJet F4280 All-in-One) and HP 60 Cartridge at the lowest ink quality setting. Plus, I have not had the best luck at finding the cartridge in the small town we live in. I am getting rid of this printer and resorting to my 6 year old one til it breaks down. At least the ink is cheap & more easily found on the 6 year old printer. HP should be ashamed of themselves with this one!

I definitely agree. I purchased the printer for approx $45 from Walmart and one of the first things that I checked was the cost of the printing cartridges (since this is how some of the companies increase their revenues on their inexpensive printers). Since the cost of the cartridges were only about $15, I figured that I''d be in good shape, especially if I DON''T use color, and change the print to grayscale and ''draft mode'' to extend the life of the black cartridge. WHAT A MISTAKE! Even though I''ve been using draft mode (just purchased the printer less than 2 weeks ago), and have gotten about 190 (text only) pages printed I need to get yet another BW cartridge!

If you print 200 pages a month of BW only, plan on spending about $200 in new cartridges each year for this printer. I''d recommend staying away from this printer.

I am forced to use a HP 2530 for my daughter''s online school. The first cartridge I went through so quickly, not knowing the rep of the printer I figured just maybe I printed more pages than I had thought.

The school shipped me out another cartridge last month, I am allowed 2 per year then it comes out of my pocket. Set the printer to quick draft to conserve ink and here I am OUT AGAIN! After roughly 140 pages printed..and these are not text intensive pages, they are pages that use very little ink.

I usually do not post negative reviews, but this product, and HP for their insane ink prices, deserve it big time!

I bought the printer this cartridge goes with, and I wish now I hadn''t, because you really go through these cartridges FAST and in the end, it is not really worth the cost of the printer. I''m disappointed in HP over this.

  • Adjustable 250-sheet capacity paper tray
  • Manual feed slot for envelopes or thicker media

This is my first color laser printer. I''m accustomed to black/white laser jets (HP, Dell, Konica Minolta). I was a little astonished by the size and weight of this machine. The picture is not a good perception of the scale/size of the printer. The printer weighs nearly 50lbs and the box is very, very large.

The size and weight aside, this printer is amazing for the price. My only complaint is that when I try to print photo quality (2400dpi), it says it needs more memory. But for a sub-$200 printer, I think this printer is perfect for your standard documents and prints. The colors look beautiful and there is no streaking.

I am pleased with the way the printer works. It is smooth running and has all you need for home/small business and it is fast.

This printer has a small footprint whick is great for small places. I replaced my old Oki C5200 and it took up less then half the space. I wished Brother made ,I am sure they could, bigger volume of toner cart''s. I would recommend this printer to the small volume user.

Excellent print quality and speed. Whereas I used to have to wait a good amount of time for my Epson inkjet to startup and fight with it to "catch" the paper, this printer gives me none of those headaches.

That said, it did give me a headache when linking it to my MacBook Pro (10.7.x). I followed the provided directions to the letter when hooking the printer up via USB, and installing the provided installation software. I was unsuccessful. I went to Brother''s website, registered the printer, uploaded both the current driver information and firmware update, and still no success. I then checked for "Software Updates" from Apple itself, and found that there was one for Brother.

In other words, install the drivers and firmware update(s) from Brother''s website and then install the corresponding software updates provided via Apple. It will save you the headache I acquired.

This printer arrived with a defective yellow cartridge that printed a yellow streak down the side of every page. I contacted the seller and have never heard a thing back from them.

This thing also puts a wicked curl into every page unless you use the rear trap door exit, but if you use that it won''t bleed off the static charge it puts on every page and then pages stick together tenaciously for a while. That wicked curl prevents using the paper tray for duplex printing, so that "feature" doesn''t exist in any usable way. For duplex you are thus required to put one page at a time in the manual feed slot in the front, but that is so sensitive to having the paper inserted only the EXACT depth into the slot that I get a paper jam signal nine times out of ten. The only way to recover from a phantom paper jam with this machine is to either cycle down the power or to open the lid and remove all four cartridges. Of course, printing one envelope is a major chore.

I have another Brother printer that is an unstoppable gem, but avoid this turkey at all costs and avoid Super Deal, the non-responsive seller.

Love the convenience of being able to print multiple 4x6 prints without re-loading paper or having to trim the paper to the right size. The only difficulty I found was in the initial loading of the roll. It took me a number of tries to get the roll to load, but once I did, was able to continuously print one after another. You do need to cut each print, but there is no "waste" between prints. And you need to "un-curl" the prints after printing by placing something heavy on them overnight.

I do a lot of printing in my line of work. I look for printer paper that is of decent quality but not over expensive. Most of my printing does not have to be on high quality paper.

I have found that Staples has a line of rather inexpensive paper that is good enough to meet my needs. This is one of those. I normally buy several packages of this paper at a time, so that I don''t run short when I have a lot of printing to do.

I''[m pretty satisfied. This is not fancy paper; it will not do if you need high quality paper. But it sure meets most of my printing needs.

I ordered it and was worried it would not be of good quality when it arrived. It arrived undamaged and I have had no issues. On top of that it arrived within a couple after I ordered it. I would highly recommended this. I saved about 15 dollars by not having to purchase directly from Epson. Will order again in future as long as price does not go up.

Same as all other inks for the Epson Workforce 520 and costs only slightly more (cents) from time to time. Will buy again unless I find it for less. Free S&H w/ my $25 purchase; arrived at my door befoe the latest scheduled date. I would have ordered thru Epson who ships all ink and paper at no charge but the cartridges are slightly higher (by cents) and I was ordering $25 worth anyway. I like Amazon.

These come without any retail packaging and certainly in any case they are not sold the way that Epson sells them. Epson''s retail package is a box with an expiration date and inside their are individually wrapped four cartridges. (if I recall correctly, all of these are then shrinkwrapped together in an outer wrapper). In contrast, this shipment arrived in a plastic bag with a single shrinkwrapped wrapper containing four cartridges that were themselves unwrapped (no individual shrinkwrapping on each cartridge).

We''ll see...but when nearly 1/4 of the reviews are complaints about how one or more of the cartridges was non functional, then I have to believe there is an issue, because Epson product quality is far better than that.

Someone suggested that these could be refurbs/refills. Its certainly a possibility but one I wouldn''t really know how to rule out. I am not sure how else to account for the fact that they are not in original packaging.

It would be nice to hear the explanation from the seller and see if it makes any sense. Otherwise, I''m dubious on what these even really are.

Brother DCP-8085dn Digital Copier and Laser Printer

Brother DCP-8085dn Digital Copier and Laser Printer w/Full Duplex Capability and Networking
  • Up to 32ppm monochrome print and copy speed
  • Up to 1200 x 1200 dpi print resolution
  • Full Automatic Duplex - Print/Copy/Scan
  • Legal size document glass
  • 300 sheet paper capacity

Contrary to one of the erroneous reviews, the Brother 8085DN DOES support duplex scanning and copying. That is why you pay $50-75 more than the 8080DN, which only does duplex printing.

We have the 8080DN and this series of Brother printers is FANTASTIC -an amazingly powerful business printer for the price of a personal printer. These things are well built, meant for a busy workgroup/small business setting. My wife runs a small nonprofit and has to print board packets and this thing just cranks them out. It will happily print two-sided packets and collate them -it will go hours of printing without a hiccup. Duplex printing is much slower than one sided printing -DUH, that is true of ANY printer. You''re not going to get high duplex speed until you get into the corporate printers.

We have also owned the Canon ImageClass duplexing printer. The Canons are terrific, very trouble free personal printer. But there is a HUGE catch -their $65 toner cartridge will only go about 1,000 pages.

The biggest selling point for this printer -the Brother 8000 series can use a high yield cartridge (about $85, or less if you feel comfortable using a remanufacture) that is rated at a whopping 8000 pages!!!

We do a lot of printing, so I researched extensively, and Brother is in a class by itself for cartridge capacity and low print costs for this class of printer. I highly recommend anything in the 8000 series.

The only reason you might not want this printer for a home office is that it is BIG. But you can''t get performance like this in anything smaller that I know of.

Other good things:

1) Energy Star compliant. In sleep mode this printer only draws 18 watts to keep the drum warm. You''d be surprised how many printers eat 40 or 50 watts in standby mode, which will cost you $30 or $40 over a year''s time. Energy Star means first page speed is not quite as good as the little HPs, but it''s still only like 12 seconds.

2) This printer has TRUE networking capability -no need for print server. That means the only connection you need is ethernet from your router to the printer. Install drivers, and every computer on the network can control this printer completely -that means scanning as well. I can''t tell you how much better that is than having a USB printer that has to be shared. Brother seems to have high quality drivers -we''ve connected XP, Vista and Win 7 without a hitch.

To sum up, everything about this printer speaks of quality and durability. It is just incredible what you can get for $300-$350 these days.

Buy Brother DCP-8085dn Digital Copier and Laser Printer Now

I have been using the DCP-8085dn at home for about 4 weeks and am extremely happy with its performance. I was mainly looking for a decent scanner with duplexing capability to scan the family records we have to PDF (which is a mountain of paper). I was also fed up with inkjet printers because we don''t print much and with our past printers, the ink cartridges (usually nearly full) would dry up between printing. The black&white (gray-scale) laser printer does a great job for home use.

A great additional feature is the networking capability. Since our home was pre-wired for a home network, although I am new to networking of any kind, I found the installation and setup easy to follow and it went pretty much without a hitch. I have a 2 TB Western Digital network storage device (NAS) attached to the network. We use a router that also offers wireless connections. So now the entire family can print directly to the printer from any device (with a printing capability) connected to the home network. Also, the DCP-8085dn can be set up to scan to a folder on the network. I chose to set up a scans folder on the NAS, so I don''t have to use a PC to make a scan. I can walk up to the DCP-8085dn and place a stack of papers in the document feeder, hit a few buttons to access presets that I set up, hit the green start button and walk away. When done I can have image files or PDF''s waiting for me in the scans folder.

A few notes:

(1) Even though it might look like one from the picture, this isn''t one of those huge Ricoh or Canon copier/scanners like one might find in an office setting that can scan 100 sheets front and back in a matter of a couple minutes at a decent DPI. It is smaller and slower. But for home use and for the price, I think it''s perfectly acceptable.

(2) The DCP-8085dn does not have a fax capability. But instead you get full duplex capability when copying, scanning and printing. Since I never send or receive faxes at home, this wasn''t even a consideration for me.

(3) DUPLEX SCANNING NOTE: ALTHOUGH THE SCANNING GLASS IS LARGE ENOUGH TO SCAN LEGAL DOCUMENTS (8.5" x 14"), WHEN USING THE DOCUMENT FEEDER IN DUPLEX MODE, YOU CAN''T SCAN DOCUMENTS MUCH LARGER THAN LETTER SIZED (8.5" x 11"). IF YOU PLAN TO SCAN A DOCUMENT WITH PAGES LONGER THAN 11", YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES: USE THE DOCUMENT FEEDER BUT ONLY SCAN ONE-SIDED, THEN REDO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOCUMENT ONE-SIDED OR DO IT MANUALLY ON THE FLATBED. THIS WAS ACTUALLY A SLIGHT DISAPPOINTMENT FOR ME, SINCE THE DCP-8085dn CAN HANDLE LENGTHY MULTI-PAGE LEGAL DOCUMENTS WITHOUT A PROBLEM MANUALLY. Although I''m not certain, I suspect that the issue has to do with the available space the document feeder has to flip a page over. Any thing up to 11" in length can be flipped over, but anything longer can''t. If you decide to scan a double-sided document one side at a time, you will need software to edit PDF pages to put them in order. This has not been a deal breaker for me, as most documents I have a letter sized or smaller. But it might not be suitable for someone looking to scan loads of legal sized documents.

(4) SCAN QUALITY NOTE: ALTHOUGH THE DOCUMENT FEEDER''S QUALITY IS ACCEPTABLE FOR MY ARCHIVING PURPOSES, IT TENDS TO WARP THE IMAGE SLIGHTLY. SCANNED PAGES (VIA THE DOCUMENT FEEDER) TEND TO HAVE A CURVE OR BOW DOWN THE PAGE. IF I WANT A REALLY GOOD SCAN I HAVE TO MANUALLY SCAN USING THE FLATBED. WHEN USING THE FLATBED, I DON''T GET THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE CURVE/BOW. SO, IF YOU NEED AN EXACT COPY WITHOUT DISTORTION, YOU''LL NEED TO MANUALLY SCAN AND NOT USE THE DOCUMENT FEEDER. For my purposes, the convenience of the document feeder outweighs the acceptable slight distortion it produces over standing at that the DCP-8085dn and manually scanning documents.

Over all, I am extremely pleased with the DCP-8085dn. I have been using the scanner like crazy working on eliminating that mountain of paper. It''s slow progress, but I''m getting there thanks to the DCP-8085dn.

I recommend the DCP-8085dn to anyone looking for a home-use scanner with duplexing capabilities (except as noted above). It''s a good printer and copier, too. Furthermore, the networking is a bonus that you should take advantage of if you can.

Read Best Reviews of Brother DCP-8085dn Digital Copier and Laser Printer Here

After reading and re-reading several reviews, I chose to purchase the Brother DCP-8085dn for my home network: 3 macs and 1 vista machine. It works flawlessly: it duplex prints, scans, AND copies. Truly, an all in one. Installation for the macs was easy. I had all three networked (!) within 10 minutes. Total. The Vista machine took considerably longer. (I blame Vista, not Brother).

Word of note for you mac users: double check your CPU usage after you install the software. One of the installed drivers (which isn''t necessary for full function I proved that last night) chews up CPU cycles and battery life on your laptop. I love this printer. I wish I''d bought it sooner.

Want Brother DCP-8085dn Digital Copier and Laser Printer Discount?

I purchased my Digital Copier and Laser Printer for use in my home office. It turned out to be even better than I expected for the price. This is not one of those flimsy built printers that you find connected to home computers. This is a serious piece of office equipment and built quite sturdy. The print quality is excellent; sharp and non-smearing. Most multi-purpose paper seems to work in this machine. I like all the functions and features and this is top-notch equipment and I have used and tried many brands and styles of equipment in my 45 year career working in business offices. I would recommend to anyone. One special note is the multi-purpose feeder tray is at the back of the printer and would not be easily accessible up against a wall.

I''ve had the DCP-8085DN for a couple of days. I''m very pleased with the performance. My only disappointment is with the multipurpose tray which I had anticipated using for envelopes. The multipurpose tray is described has having a capacity of 50 sheets--in use you learn that this is the capacity for plain paper--it only will accept about 3 envelopes. Using the multipurpose tray is also a bit of a hassle--rear & front doors must be lowered while in use. I considered buying the optional 2nd tray for use with envelopes; then discovered in the manual these words, "envelopes can only be fed from the multipurpose tray." By the way, the one #10 envelope that I tried printing, crinkled severely. Otherwise I am more than pleased.
