This printer prints great and is easy to set up. We have had it in our office for a few months now. We just received a message saying that we need to replace the Maintenance box. However after a few days of research and calling epson... they do not offer a replacement!!! This printer requires a maintenance box to function. It is used to catch ink during print head cleans. Once it is full, you must replace it, and as of 2/7/2012, Epson does not offer a replacement for it. It looks like you can find the part from UK or AU websites, if you are willing to wait a few weeks to get it, and pay a premium for it on international shipping, then knock yourself out. I would recommend staying away from this printer until Epson has this part in...Refer to this website from epson that shows the maintenance box, T671000, but does not have an option to buy it...:UPDATE 8/10/2012:

The maintenance box is now available for this printer, however it took months before even tier 2 tech support from epson knew what to tell me. I ordered two from a random website online, now epson finally is stocking them. Overall happy with this printer, chews through ink on normal mode, economy mode is very very light print. My old hp economy mode printed very fast, but a little sloppy, this seems to print no faster, just uses less ink to do it. This printer also can''t multi task. My old officejet pro, could print pages while scanning at the same time. This printer is always throwing up "print busy" messages.

UPDATE Nov 2012: I upgraded to Windows 8 a couple of weeks ago the day after it first came out, and I wanted to say that this printer has no problems in Windows 8. Works perfectly.

Old Review: This printer arrived a few days ago, and it was like Christmas Morning. What tech guy doesn''t like playing with new tech stuff? There was so much to play with on this device, that setting it up was just FUN. That''s not really an issue with the printer itself, more my perceptions and experiences with it, but I wanted to say it anyway. NOTE: I am using Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.

First off, the thing is BIG. Now I wasn''t expecting a tiny little compact thing, mind you. You don''t get a full function device like this and expect it to be small. But it was way bigger than I anticipated. It''s roughly 18 inches wide by 17 inches deep and 14 inches tall. It didn''t fit where my old printer was the table the old one sat on is JUST too small for this, which made for some shuffling of furniture and whatnot. Additionally, anything other than your default paper gets loaded via a backside paper loader. Your primary paper (for me, 8.5x11) is loaded in a tray that disappears completely inside the printer. But anything else (manual feed, envelopes) go in via the back paper loader, and it extends out the already large footprint of the thing. It''s not much, just an inch or two, but you will need some sort of extra space in the back, you can''t just push it against a wall, and expect to be able to use the back paper loader. Additionally, anything the device outputs comes out the front. Which also has an extender to cradle the printed papers. Which extends the front of the thing out about another eight inches when fully extended. If you don''t do that, the paper will NOT stay in the printer and falls on the floor. Additionally, the box it shipped in is itself even larger. It''s all protective foam and whatnot inside there, but the box the UPS guy delivered was quite large.

Once you take it out of the box, you''ll find a ton of little bits of blue tape all over the outside (and inside). This is pretty much to keep all the sensitive bits from sliding around and getting damaged. You need to pull all the blue tape off first, and once you get the ones off that let you access the inside of the printer, there''s some on the inside two, and two bits to remove from in there that were protecting the scanner guts. There''s a piece of paper taped to the outside of the printer showing you what to remove from the inside. There is an instruction sheet showing the order of getting stuff set up. I followed it, as since this is a brand new printer (as of the time of my writing), I assumed Windows wouldn''t have proper drivers for it, and let the ESPON install disk do it''s thing. Normally I just hook up a device and let Windows find the drivers, to bypass all the crapware that most install discs put on there, but this one wasn''t bad. Installed the printer, got it setup on my network and all that. The four ink cartridges come in vacuum packed seals, and you''re recommended not to open them until you''re putting them in the printer. You''re supposed to shake them before putting them in the printer, but I missed that instruction. It didn''t seem to affect anything though. During setup, you''re asked if you want to set up the printer wirelessly or via a "temporary USB connection", that is labeled as "recommended". Yet they don''t include a USB cable for you to use. Odd, that.

There are two parts where the initial set up really slows down. One is the priming of the ink cartridges. You follow the instructions on the little screen on the printer, and once you get the cartridges in there, it has to initialize them (whatever that means). This does mean a 12 minute delay (felt longer, but I didn''t time it) while it gets itself ready. They tell you not to interrupt it, or open any doors while it''s going on or it will "waste ink". While I did as I was told, it did bog down. Additionally, I updated the firmware during the install as well, and that was another 10 minute or so "twiddle my thumbs watching not much of anything" moment. Necessary I suppose, but don''t expect to be printing five minutes after you get the thing out of the box. I set up wirelessly. I do wonder if the speed of setup was slowed down because I did it via wireless.

The printer works either via a hardwired connection or wireless. There''s a hardwired network jack on the back, or it works over your local network via 802.11/b/g/n connections. The printer didn''t see my "N" connection, so it connected to my "G" one. Not a huge deal really, just odd that it didn''t see the "N". The wireless is nice because the printer can more easily work over your network as opposed to the older fashioned "shared printer" concept.

I''m also an iPad owner, and earlier this year when Apple introduced the concept of AirPrint, I thought it was gonna be cool to print from my iPad. Then I discovered the number of printers that worked with that was limited to a handful of HP units, and nothing else worked (easily, anyway). There was a small paper inside the box here saying this printer worked with iOS AirPrint, but only after a firmware update (which is the aforementioned one I talked about earlier). Once I got everything set up, I was quite surprised to see that feature work. It will stop quite a few things my wife would forward me and say "Please print this". :)

There''s also another cool feature which I doubt I''ll use much, but it''s nice that it''s there. Print via email. During setup, you get a page printed telling you about the printer''s capability to print stuff you email to a specific address. That address is printed on the paper. I tried it out, and it does work. It''s kind of cool that you can do this, I suppose it''s a way if you''re away from the printer and need to get something to someone where your printer is that you can do that. The email address is quite long and complicated, but I do wonder about the spam capabilities there.

The auto feed scanner will do double side scanning, which is nice. I don''t have many print and scan jobs that require double sided stuff, but it''s nice to know it''s there just the same.

Here''s some remarks about the various sections of the device''s functionality:

Scanner: The EPSON Scan software that gets installed during installation does the job. It''s certainly better than the stuff that I was using before on my old scanner, which was the stuff built directly into Windows. This has a lot more detail including dust removal & back light correction, which is a big deal to me, as I have a boatload of old pictures that need to be scanned, and that definitely helps. The speed of the scanner was quite good. Sure, you can jack up the DPI and really slow things down, but for standard scanning, it does the job quite well. The resultant quality of the scans is good as well. Don''t know how to compare that to other scanners, just that what it scans looks good, so I guess that''s OK, eh? :) There is OCR software on the install CD, but I opted not to install that, so I can''t remark on how well it works. A nice upgrade on what I was using before, which was well, not good. You can also scan to email, scan to PC, or scan straight to a PDF. It''s a nice selection of options depending on what your needs are for that particular scan. The resultant scans of photographs came out quite nice. Obviously if the picture is too old and too beat up, that''s not the scanner''s fault, but it does seem to do a good job at auto removing some damage to old photographs.

Printing: I tried printing several different kinds of things during my setup and initial testing. The standard "test page", and a few photos and various documents and whatnot. Despite not having "custom" paper to print photos on, I printed ''em on plain old printer paper, and they still looked pretty decent, so I imagine proper printing paper for photos would look quite good. The printer is quite fast, even when printing photos. Granted, printing a photo isn''t as fast as printing just a page of black and white text obviously, it was still snappier than I thought it would be. Word documents are quite crisp and easy to read. Pages with color accents on mostly black and white printed pretty much as fast as an all black text page did. Given printing is the majority of what I''ll use this device for, I was impressed at all my attempts to throw print jobs at it. EPSON claims the printer ink will look good printing pictures on any kind of paper. It does seem better on standard paper than special paper, so I''ll buy that. Again, plain text and document printing looks quite crisp. Their tech claims that the documents printed will last 118 years. I seriously doubt I''ll still be around to check that claim out for myself.

Fax: Initially the print to fax didn''t work right out of the box. The setup disc added two printers to my "Devices" tab. One for the printer, and one for the fax. The fax one was greyed out and didn''t work when I tried to use it for the first time. I looked into the settings, and Windows (or the EPSON Setup) had assigned the port to LPT1:, the old style of printer port. The "printing" area of the new printer was working fine, and it was on some new EPSON port. So I manually changed the port for the Fax to the same as the printer, and it worked fine. I was able to test it by faxing a dummy fax to 1-888-877-1655 (a toll free number for a site called faxtoy daht net). You can look on that site and see your test, as they post everything they receive there. An inbound test worked too via the site faxzero daht cahm. So the fax worked quite well. I really liked being able to "print" to the fax machine. A fax machine is generally an antiquated concept, but for the times you HAVE to do it, I prefer being able to just print my document via fax as opposed to the old way of printing it out, and faxing it via physical paper. This gets a thumbs up for sure. EPSON claims it can send a page as fast as three seconds. My test faxes were pretty short, and were "Print to Fax", I''m unclear if that speed claim is for physical paper faxes, or the way I did it. Still, given how infrequently I fax anyway, I doubt the speed of the faxing will be an issue, much less how fast it goes.

Ink: The printer came with four individually colored toner cartridges. Black, Yellow, Red, & Blue (although they call them Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, & Black). The ones in the box have a smaller capacity than the ones you would buy as refills. The marketing says that the thing can get a couple of thousand pages out of a set of toner, but the ones in the box say 1000 for Black, and 900 for color, so they''re not the same shipping with the printer, I believe they''re referred to somewhere along the line as "starter" packs. A check of the Epson site shows refills aren''t exactly cheap. The three color cartridges are $24.99 each, and the black one is $38.99. Gah! To replace all four of them would cost $113.96 (plus whatever tax and shipping you''d tack on). Granted, a manufacturer toner cartridge for my old black and white laser-jets isn''t cheap, either. I''ll be doing MOSTLY black and white printing, so the colors won''t go down as fast, but still. Given this printer sells for $300, spending over 1/3 of that price on a single complete ink refill is a LOT. I''m sure there''s replacements a lot cheaper, but it''s always a gamble with cheap/no name toner/ink.

Paper: For me, the overwhelming lion''s share of printing jobs will be on standard 8.5x11 inch printer paper. This printer has the capability of printing on a lot of different types of paper, but I doubt I''ll be using a ton of them. So I don''t have a lot of say about that kind of stuff here, except.. I can stick a lot of paper in this printer at once. The big sticker on the printer that was there before I took it off said you can stick 330 pieces of paper in there at once. Now I didn''t break down and count it obviously, but it did feel like a substantial amount of paper in there. That''s a non tangible thing, getting up and refilling. And that''s the front loading cartridge. Other kinds of paper are loaded via a back loading tray, including envelopes. I would have preferred the envelopes be in the front and not the back, but oh well. The printer is marketed as having 50% lower printing costs. There''s a massive sticker ON TOP of the printer when you take it out of the box that says this. Problem with this is I''m not sure how to quantify that claim it''s probably down to ink anyway, and not paper. I''ve never owned a printer like this before (my home office printers have always been smaller type things like this or this). Still, even if it doesn''t come near 50%, the fact that it probably will be more conservative with ink and whatnot is good.

Problems: As I''ve only had this a couple of days as I write this, I''ve yet to run into the dreaded paper jam, so I have no idea how hard it is to fix problems like that. Every printer gets them, so I know I''ll run into it some day. But it''s too early in the life of this printer for me to judge how hard it is to fix paper jams.

So to summarize, the printer is more than sufficient for me in what it does. It''s quite large, so don''t expect it to substitute in cleanly for a smaller type Laserjet printer if you''re upgrading from that. But it appears to be a workhorse from my initial testing. As I use this going down the line, I''ll update with any relevant issues I might run into. If you''re in need of a good small business printer to handle all kinds of duties (scan, fax, print, etc), this is a good option for you.

P.S. Yes, I realize the ink for this printer is more "ink" than "toner", but I''ve been saying toner for the stuff you put in a printer that lets it print so long I have a hard time forcing myself to say something other than the word "toner". :)

UPDATE: I saw where the four ink cartridges are available from Amazon.com as well. They are:

Black: Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Black (T676XL120)

Yellow: Epson DuraBrite Ultra T676XL420 Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Yellow Ink

Magenta: Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Magenta (T676XL320)

Cyan: Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Cyan (T676XL220)

UPDATE Oct 20: Today I noticed an update to the firmware and software for the printer. This new update brought with it the ability to hook up to Google Cloud Print. Got that up and running was pretty easy. So the printer now has the ability to print with Epson''s own "Epson Connect" as well as Google Cloud Print, and iOS'' AirPrint. It''s a very well connected printer. :)

This printer was purchased for our business back in December 2011, and now, 7 months later, we''re on the third printer. First, a roller popped out of the back and it would no longer print on paper fed from the back. That was within the first month, so it was replaced immediately.

Now, six months later, the yellow nozzle is blocked. After doing a little research, it was revealed that this is an inevitable problem with all Epson printers; it''s not a matter of if this will happen, but when. Perhaps Epson hopes you''ll buy another one of these insatiable ink gluttons before your first one breaks. Perhaps you''ll print a hundred or so sheets of beautiful color images, and then neglect to purchase the exorbitantly colored cartridges for a while. Then a year later when it doesn''t work, you''ll say, "This is my fault" and just buy a new one. It was indeed suggested that extended disuse of the printer would cause ink to dry on the nozzles. This is not the case with this particular printer. It''s used nearly every day, at the very least several times a week. Again we returned it, again it was replaced.

Upon set-up, the newly replaced printer drained ALL of the unused print cartridges and refused to go any farther before a single print was run on the printer. This is absurd. This, as they say in the coffee shops, is an outrage.

I will give this praise: when it works, it works great. That much is said in many of the negative reviews. I would love this printer if it could go for half a year without self-destructing. Colors are bright, and the scanner is especially nice. Paper jams are common, but not frequent enough to be too annoying. There is another shining star in this pit: I love the scanner. My last Epson scanner was exceptional, and this one is as well. However, the printer connected to the scanner has a disgustingly high rate of failure. We''re going on 3 out of 3. Are you feeling like your luck has been way too high lately? Do you feel like your life has way too little stress and you just want something that will make you tear your hair out? WELL HAVE I GOT A PRODUCT FOR YOU! That''s right, the Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4530 will cost you your most productive days, may cause heartburn, ulcers, and high blood pressure, and might even make you cry!

For your own health and well-being, and for the sake of all of us who want quality products, PLEASE do not buy this printer, and do not buy a printer from Epson. It is an abyss of negative value. If you MUST buy an Epson printer, then you WILL need a warranty extension. Aside from the scanner, this is a terrible product.

EDIT JUL 10th: The yellow nozzle is clogged on the printer replaced LAST WEEK after roughly 100 prints. Three printers in 7 months. How does this get through quality control? Don''t buy this product. You''re going to be upset.

Boy, what an easy print copy, scan and fax installation right out of the box for our family of Apple iMac, Mac mini, iPad and 2 pc work laptops! Allows others on network to share functionality. The print speed also is fast so a large print job won''t frustrate the network. The Epson WP-4530 WorkForce Pro is a basic wireless print/copy/scan/fax color inkjet model for small businesses and for workgroups and EnergyStar rated. The footprint is comparable to other all-in-one''s (we''ve owned several from HP) but it weighs a lot less. The plastic casing seems thinner and a piece of the back plastic dust cover flap was broken off out of the box. The break doesn''t hurt functionality but it does speak to durability and cheaper material/design quality. There are a couple of flimsy plastic dust covers toward the rear of the machine that may get lost or broken with inattentive care. The more expensive model in the Pro-series holds a full ream of paper but at a 60% ream capacity and a slightly smaller 3.5" touch screen this less expensive model suits our needs fine.

There is a small yellow sheet of paper included in the box which is easy to miss. Let me include it here:

Attention AirPrint Users

This printer can be AirPrint-enabled by installing the latest firmware update, allowing you to wirelessly print directly from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 4.2 or later.

First, set up your printer using the installation instructions that came with it.

After you finish setting up your printer, visit the manufacturer''s website for instructions on updating the firmware to activate AirPrint under Support.

Now, my bugaboos and basic requirements: Functionality, Dependability and Operations Cost

* Capacities and Specifications:

o 30-page 2-sided auto document feeder for copy, scan, fax functions (I use double sided everyday so the quick response is important to me)

o Fax memory of 180 pages so no missing faxes or slow tie ups, important for a business.

o Max paper size of 8.5" x 44" -NICE but I''ve yet to need a banner.

o Prints 1-sided 16 ppm: black, 11 ppm: color. 2-Sided 9 ppm: black, 7 ppm: color (all fast enough to not tie up the printer even with larger jobs)

o Scans to 2400 dpi resolution with correctable features (nice for pictures and business quality scans to .pdf files) with OCR capability at software download

o PrintJinniTM for Epson, Google Cloud Print and future release of the compatible AirPrint utilities app promise wireless printing from my Apple iOS devices. I love my iPad. NB: There is a special Mac OS Lion Support page and instructions to download from the net support page and NOT the provided disk for Lion 10.7. However, update from an install on Lion 10.6.x to 10.7 appears uncomplicated and straightforward.

o Or, download documents from iPhone or iPad to specified email which allows me to set aside jobs for future printing

* Warrantee:

o It comes with a standard warrantee. The Epson website offers a 1 year repair/exchange for $40 and a 2 year for $60. I am a big believer in extended warrantees for most products over $200. I''ve used them too frequently not to insure and encourage you to consider.

* 4-Color Ink 676XL and retail estimate costs

o Black T676XL 120 $40 Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Black (T676XL120)

o Cyan T676XL 220 $25 Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Cyan (T676XL220)

o Magenta T676XL 320 $25 Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Magenta (T676XL320)

o Yellow T676XL 420 $25 Epson DuraBrite Ultra T676XL420 Epson DuraBrite Ultra Ink, Yellow Ink

Amazon will continue to be my ink supplier, as Costco at this time, does not stock. I''ve been a dedicated HP printer user for over 20 years and have become increasingly dissatisfied with complicated features that too easily get tangled with changes on the network and with ever increasing printing costs. HP remains a preferred provider for workgroups, a niche that Epson hopes to break into. I''ll watch with interest but have doubts if only 3 models remain available in the WorkForce Pro series. This Epson printer''s duty cycle is rated for up to 20,000 pages which suggests a nice lifetime. Print quality is good. This Epson WF4530 Pro may be a better fit for small offices and that''s my use. If you are buying for a workgroup, be sure to verify that Epson is on your approved list!

I will conduct my own unofficial print cost comparison and reliability tests of the 3 printers on our network: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 WirelessHP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus Wireless e-All-in-One (CM756A#B1H), HP OfficeJet 7300HP OfficeJet 7310 All-in-One Printer and this reviewed Epson and report back in several months. The 4 print cartridges from Epson came vacuum sealed; this may suggest that I should not be surprised to see the same seeming evaporation that I swear I''m experiencing on the HP OfficeJet''s new designed ink cartridges. Both companys'' ink product weight seem to suggest a much smaller bladder than one might expect seeing the large cartridge packaging. ...So, the time and quantity test is important to me given the price. Yes, I am sure that the print cost is less for each dot matrix than for a laser print which is what their advertising pins to. However, I compare against my old workhorse, the HP OfficeJet 7300 that had an efficient print pattern, low print cost and was refillable by the consumer. The new HP cartridges are designed to be not refillable; these Epson cartridges are too new to find out about yet. BTW, it appears that you cannot preset the printer to default print in black or greyscale. You must select greyscale at each print, bother and so much for conserving ink. For now, wifi works well, scanning is correctable and detailed, and I''m happy. Loses a star for build quality and another for default to color printing.

Footnote: I''ve run out of black ink after 62 days. I''ve used this Epson printer more than the HP8500 and less than the HP 7310. The HP 7310 continues to be the champion ink miser from the days when HP made ink last. All 3 machines were refilled at the beginning of my informal test.

I received this Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4530 All-in-One Printer from the Amazon Vine program for review. First I must say it was very simple to set up straight from the box. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Our 12 year old son was able to complete most of this with assistance from my husband.

The initial test prints were quick and clear, with vibrant and bold colors. It scans quick & clear.

I must admit this printer takes up more space than I expected. I understand ans expect a high performance printer will be larger than an average everyday home printer; however with technological advances rendering electronics smaller each year, I did expect a more compact unit. Be sure to check the dimensions for your work-space. Product Dimensions: 18.2 x 16.5 x 13.4 inches.

This includes 4 separate cartridges / replacements are listed below:

XL Black Ink Cartridge T676XL120

XL Cyan Ink Cartridge T676XL220

XL Magenta Ink Cartridge T676XL320

XL Yellow Ink Cartridge T676XL420

Considering these are extra large cartridges hopefully they will last a long time before needing replacements or refilling. I will update later when they start running out.

So far I am very pleased with this Epson printer. Next on my list of task to try on this printer is connecting to my iPhone. I will update with the results.

**Also no card reader on this printer.

Update 11/19/2011 :

I have just placed an order for a black replacement cartridge. I''m hoping the replacement lasts much longer than the initial cartridge did. I''m starting to have a few issues with this printer. Most noticeable is frequent paper jams, and extra pages being fed. For the past week, I have had numerous jammed paper, which is easy enough to clear, just remove the back and pull out the paper. But I am wondering why this is happening.

The other issue I am starting to see is with clarity of images. This printer has never liked working with any photo papers, but it did ok, at first. Now the photos are coming out and they look as though the printer was shaking as it printed, with some minor blurring on random parts of the image.

Not sure yet if this can be corrected, but I''m trying. I''m downgrading this to 3 stars, its OK, just not the greatest printer I''ve owned.

Update 12/15/2011 : Paper jams happen nearly every time I print. Photo print quality is not good at all, very blurry results. I tried a few different photo papers with no luck. My best results was normal print settings on photo paper. If I set high quality I had puddles of ink that literally ran over the page.

Occasionally I find that normal print jobs appear blurry in places, almost as if you shook the printer while printing.

Downgrading the stars again to 2, its a real disappointment.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 Color Mobile Scanner

Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 Color Mobile Scanner
  • Color Mobile Scanner with ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)
  • Optical Resolution of 600 dpi x 600 dpi;Compatible with Windows® 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional

  • Thumbnail viewer and drag-and-drop functionality for easy file management
  • Operates on USB bus power; one-year limited warranty

My reasoning: (Vista Ultimate laptop)

1) It intelligently waits until the computer is idle, to auto-perform OCR chores. You have the option to do so as you scan, but this slows down scanning. There''s also a menu click which yields a list of scans awaiting OCR-really nice touch!

2) Unlike proprietary organizers, the "cabinets" created within the organizer software are actual directories on your hard disk. Likewise, folders created within the organizer''s cabinets are subdirectories on your disk. So, you get the best of all worlds-use the organizer knowing you''re not locked in, as it''s just a slick interface for what is actually existing on your drive. (i.e., Create a cabinet = create a directory)

3) Thermal receipts, even trying-to-fade ones, come thru crisp and clear, miraculously, when scanning.

4) I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 8, which is a necessary evil in my business. I can now avoid that bloated monster altogether when it comes to receipts and anything else I choose to scan using this system. That alone is worth the price of entry!

5) The duplex scanning is wondrous-paper goes thru only once, with both sides captured simultaneously -speedily. This still blows my mind (I have a duplex Canon MP830 multifunction-for all practical purposes, its scanner has been blown away by this device.)

6) Let''s face it-sometimes, paper jams. This is the FIRST machine encountered-since the late 80''s when I started computing- which makes it so easy to fix things. You just push the little square silver arrow atop the scanner, open, get the paper, and close it. Incredibly easy and no-fuss! And yes, the wrinkled paper then flows thru fine (I gently kept a finger on that one item as it scanned thru, just to be safe.) BTW, I had scanned upwards of 300 items before a jam occurred.

7) Lots of options, re speed, resolution, etc. All easy to get to, all quick to implement. These folks actually used this thing during the creation process, as it seems they didn''t miss a trick in making this a genuinely consumer friendly device!

8) The consumables are comparatively cheap. The pad assembly (Part # PA03541-0002) needs replacement every 10,000 sheets or a year-google the actual part # to see the $8 retailers); the pick roller (Part # PA03541-0001) lasts about 100,000 sheets-about $12. I noticed a huge price variation among retailers while googling, so I placed my order today; they''re not in stock at most places, but I have plenty of time so who cares. This is bound to be a profoundly popular scanner per word-of-mouth, and consumable prices may increase accordingly. BTW, right-click the ScanSnap Manager tray icon for "check consumable supplies" to get a tally on current sheet usage, which you can reset during the replacement process.

9) Small footprint-lives in a bookcase shelf atop my desk.

10) One of the rare occasions where I''ve had absolutely no post-purchase regrets with an electronic item!

Long and short of it is this: I''ve finally lived long enough to see one hardware manufacturer get everything right. There''s a pdf manual, but I read it only to investigate consumables (thought it would be a "gotcha!" but was pleasantly suprised at the reasonable cost). I assume you''re reading these reviews carefully (as I did), trying to decide between the ScanSnap and a lower priced alternative. For once, I decided not to play cheapskate, and boy oh boy, am I glad!! (The price here has already escalated a bit, so do it now, my friend!)

I had been looking into replacing my flatbed scanner, but was intrigued by this small, mainly PDF unit. I decided to go for it for 2 reasons: 1) 99% of what I scan are documents perfect for PDFs, and 2) the scanner''s small size. I am so happy with this scanner! The PDFs are crisp and clear, much better than my flatbed scanner. The scanner reads both sides of a page at once and automatically removes blank pages. It''s also quite a bit faster and much quieter than my other scanner (which I''m keeping for handling photos and other types of scans). The software that comes with the scanner is nice not hard to use/learn.

I''m using a PC running Windows XP, not a laptop. Don''t feel that you need to be mobile to justify using this scanner, although I''m sure that would be a main selling point for those who are on the go.

This is an outstanding scanner. It really lives up to its name as it makes scanning a snap. The Scansnap''s software is very user friendly, making it very simple to adjust things such as file type (JPEG vs. PDF) or scanning level. I also like how the Scansnap can scan both sides of a document or photo. The archiving systems also seems like it works quite well. The Fujitsu Scansnap is easy to setup and easy to use. I highly recommend it.

FOR MAC USERS

I made the mistake of assuming that the Fujitsu Scansnap would also work with a Mac. These days most things work easily with Mac, not the Fujitsu. Actually the Scansnap works nicely while I run Windows XP Pro on Parallels. The good news for Mac Users is that Fujitsu now makes a Scansnap for Mac. The bad news is that it''s going to cost over $50 more! Apparently the different color and MacOS-specific software justifies the extra cost.

After approximately 2,000 scans, I think I have a good handle on the pro''s and con''s:

Pro''s: small footprint, easy setup, intuitive controls, duplex (scans both sides), saves scans as PDF files, straightens out scans that feed crooked, OCR permits searching of your scans.

Con''s: document has to be carefully fed or won''t scan, the software freezes frequently (the remedy is to unplug the scanner for a few seconds and then reconnect), the searchable PDF requires purchasing Adobe Acrobat (which is expensive -make sure you factor this large expense into your calculations), the software has difficulty identifying and deleting blank pages.

This is not a heavy duty scanner. It is not the scanner to buy if you do a lot of 200 page documents. And it''s not the scanner to buy if you scan 500 pages a day. But it is the scanner for most of us who scan 10 or 20 or even 40 pages a day who don''t need a flatbed. It''s simple. It''s been great (but not perfect) at feeding one page at a time. The results are excellent. It''s quiet. It gets both sides of the page at the same time (if there''s anything on the backside, and eliminating the backside if it''s blank). It''s portable and runs off the USB alone (albeit at a slower rate) on the go. It''s small enough to take with you in the laptop bag to bring to work or bring to home or out to a site. I have great difficulty imagining how this small, simple device could be better without sacrificing the things that make it great (small, simple, portable, runs off USB alone if necessary). I HIGHLY recommend this if it seems like it fits your needs. It really is a performer, and I''m VERY happy with it. One thing Fujitsu could work on: it would be nice if it did not require proprietary software and could be driven by programs such as Adobe Acrobat alone. But the proprietary software is actually pretty good. Everything should work as well as this product has for me.

HP Laserjet M1319F Mfp Printer

HP Laserjet M1319F Mfp Printer
  • Multifunction laser printer that prints, faxes, copies, and scans
  • Print and copy in Black-and-white at speeds up to 19 pages per minute
  • Powerful 240 MHz Tensilica on-board processor with 32 MB of memory
  • Scan documents in full-color as large as 8.5 x 14 inches
  • 250-sheet paper tray, 10-sheet priority tray, and 30-sheet ADF

I had an HP Fax 1010 for my home office, and it was a trouper always worked great. But then HP had a recall due to potential fire hazard, and offered a rebate on several of their faxes and multifunction fax/printer/scanners.

So I went for the M1391F MFP. I don''t really care about printing I''ve got a color duplex laser printer for that. I wanted something that would fax, copy, and scan with an auto-feed.

Here''s what it''s good at:

1. Scanning letter-size pages (although their Mac software could use some work).

2. Copying letter-size pages.

3. Faxing letter-size pages to U.S. recipients.

And the document feed works great.

Here''s what it won''t do:

1. Scan legal-sized pages

2. Ring or make any kind of noise when it gets an incoming call, from a fax machine, cell phone, or land line. Even with all the volume settings turned to high.

3. Receive an incoming fax or phone call. At all. From anywhere.

The capper tonight was that I had to fax a time-sensitive document to New Zealand, and this piece of work thinks the NZ dial tone is a busy signal and won''t connect.

I tried to access HP''s live chat help desk, but nobody picked up in over a half-hour. So now I''m having an extended, hours-between-installments email correspondence with Nigel from Bangalore, and he''s asking me to verify the model number and what version of Windows is on the attached computer and am I using USB. Well, there is no computer attached, Nigel, I''m using this as a detached fax machine. But as someone who''s written printer drivers for your own company''s printers, and fax software for your competitors, I can assure you that if the attached computer is preventing this unit from receiving faxes or recognizing international dial tones, you need to look for another job.

I dug out the old 1010 and it sent the fax just fine.

This unit has a wonderful feature set. If only it worked. It''s useless to me, and I''m going to have to start looking for a fax machine that works.

When I was in grad school over 20 years ago, HP sold the best lab equipment money could buy. You knew if you got an HP gas chromatograph, or infrared spectrometer, or oscilloscope, you had the highest quality available on the planet.

Now... I''ve bought probably a dozen HP laser printers since 1990, and never even looked at another brand, with one costing over $10,000. But after this hunk of junk, I will certainly look at alternatives in the future.

This unit was purchased as a replacement for an HP1010 Fax Machine which was recalled by the factory, and an HP1010 Printer which was not recalled. Despite negative comments by others, I have found the M1319F Printer to be more than an acceptable replacement for both machines. It is in regular use and I have had no problems thus far. It has never failed to print, copy, or fax for me. I have found the print quality to be excellent.

The printed documentation that came with it was a little too spartan, but the manual on the installation CD is more than adequate (177 pages if you care to print it). As a bonus, the M1319F uses the same ink cartridge as the HP1010 Printer so for me, I only have to stock one cartridge for both.

Thus far, I have no regrets with my purchase, and I believe HP did me a favor by recalling the HP1010 fax which I did not like. The only reason I rate the M1319F 4 stars is because HP makes much heavier, more durable machines, albeit at a higher price.

The machine worked well for 3 weeks. Then it started to jam every now and then. It would try to grab too many sheets of paper from the tray. Changed paper and it happens less frequently.

Last week the fax section started to act up. It dials, hears the other machine answer then takes forever to send even the first page. Oddly, sometimes it will send multiple pages but doesn''t indicate that on the display. I have confirmed that the receiving fax machines were working fine. I send faxes to these other machines on a regular basis and now I can not. The light just flashes away and my phone line is tied up forever.

It definitely affects my confidence in HP printers. I used many HP printers in the past. This is the first one gave me so many problems. Give you one example: after installation I found it can only print portrait not landscape. After three sessions with HP technical persons, all together about 6 hours, it was finally fixed without knowing why. I am not going to list all the other problems. Some of them are minor. It is finally working at the moment. But I am worried about other surprises could hit me anytime.

Nevertheless, my experience with HP service personnel were pretty good. They were as patient as I was during the conference sessions. One of their supervisor or manage call me afterwards, asking if there is any other problems need help or want to exchange a new one. I told him if more problems occurs I probably would like to change to a new model, perhaps a more expensive and better one. I am still not very sure I should keep it.

I bought this printer new for $215 from CompuBiz and I was disappointed with the scanning software that came with it. I bought it because of the low price per page to print and also because I like to scan documents into PDF often. When I tried the scanning software included, Readiris Pro 11, I was thoroughly disappointed. I have since learned that I can scan directly from my Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and it works awesome. I immediately un-installed the Readiris Pro 11 that came with the printer and I am now a very happy customer. I don''t know why HP would partner with such a bad software provider. I therefore recommend this printer, but only if you are going to use Adobe Acrobat for the scanning software. Enjoy.

Purchased this printer after a Samsung color laser printer had failed. It has been in service for six months and has not had any problems at all. Unlike most sub $1,000 color laser printers this one does not force a toner replacement after a specific number of pages. That alone saves us hundreds of dollars a year in toner cost. The construction is solid and controls are intuitive to use. One thing to note, this printer is heavy.

Every year we rotate out about 250 printers of a total around 700 printers. That means we are on a three year rotation schedule. The batch going out this year is some pitiful Brother printers that are only one and one-half to two years old. The ones we are keeping past their rotation time are some HP1012 and 1022 printers that have performed flawlessly. Their replacements are these 1505s.

These printers are simply well-suited to their jobs. They are shared at every installation where we use them. They have been fault free so far and most likely will be if they mirror our experience over the last 20 years with HP printers. They are not network printers or meant for heavy production use. For that you have to expect to spend a few more dollars.

Based on our experience here with these printers I bought one for home and it is performing flawlessly.

I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs an everyday, reliable, easy on the combustibles printer.

I have bought several 1505''s and 1505N''s and overall had a great experience with them. They are the replacement entry-level Laser monochrome printer for the 1022/1022N. I like them better because they print faster than 1022 (in my experience) and have a power button on the front.

I did receive a bad 1505 but I emailed Amazon and they overnighted me a new printer and emailed me a pre-paid RMA label. Couldn''t have been easier Amazon rocks!

Great little printer! (If you need something a little heftier with HP, I would look at the LJ1320 and so on...)

HP claims this printer is compatible with Mac OSX. Don''t believe it. There are major problems printing from Word on a Mac, a problem of which HP is fully aware but claims that downloading the latest version of the driver from their website will fix it. In my recent and very frustrating experience (3 calls so far to HP Tech Support), it does not. My Laserjet is still not performing consistently (sometimes it prints, sometimes it doesn''t, and sometimes it print horizontal lines instead of text), &, having exhausted all the "fixes" HP is able to provide, I''m about to ship it back to Amazon.

Thought I would update this thread-the printer and its new drivers still do not work with Mac (10.5.8) as of 8/24/2009. Apparently any impending hp driver fix has dropped off of their "to do" list. Mac users shouldn''t buy this printer.

The printer worked fine and was a cinch to install. Time will tell how well it holds up to light home use. My previous Samsung printer was also good until it c&^%$#-out.

Samsung Monochrome Laser Printer (ML-3712ND)

  • One-Touch Wireless Connection - The Samsung ML-3712DW connects to Wi-Fi with a single touch
  • Enables you to locate and manage all your Samsung device and print settings from one simple location, right down to ordering supplies
  • A handy tool that enables you to collect and only print the information you need from the web, reducing not only waste, but also time and energy, too
  • Facilitates quick and easy printer sharing by enabling you to print to any Samsung device without having to install a driver for every networked printer
  • Increase productivity in your office
  • Upgrade the standard 250-page
  • Even more paper handling-perfect for all your bulk printing needs.

Replaced a trusty but tired HP Laserjet 2300 for our front office. Bought a new printer instead of repairing the old one since repair is too expensive (although it''s sad to fill up the landfills). I chose Samsung due to good experiences with my Samsung phone, TV, etc. I chose the 3712 instead of the 3312 because it had higher usage ratings (more heavy duty) for not much more money. I also like that it''s advertised to use less power than other printers, but have not yet measured power usage. I can say other printers sometimes dim the lights when warming up, and this printer does not.

Installation:

Easy and lightening fast USB setup without a hitch. Download the newest driver, install on WinXP, plug in the USB cable, share it with other PCs on the network. I need a new LAN drop before I can use the integrated ethernet port.

Usage:

Super fast time to first page of the day. Printed pages fly out of this thing, but not so much I need a catcher''s mitt.

Been in operation for a couple months and no complaints. Not even a small suggestion or nitpick of any kind. It seems impossible in this day and age, but this is a great product.

After my trusty Samsung ML-6060 broke from a 5 cent piece of plastic in the paper handling system, it was finally time to get a new machine. Since my previous Samsung lasted over 11 years (11 years!!!), I decided to get another one from them after looking at HP and Brother. I didn''t like the cheapness of the HP units and kind of liked the brother, but then I found this thing. This is a true enterprise printer with an enormous throughput (80,000 pages/month)and large toner capacity. And holy crap, it is FAST! I bought this as a refurb (as my old printer was), so it was far less than even the lesser model in the same range, the 3312.

Don''t let its small size fool you, this machine is a monster. It has a dual-core 600mhz processor and an amazing print speed as a result. Often, my print jobs are done before I get out of my chair and make it over to the printer. It just eats up big print jobs like they were nothing. I have printed several books in the hundreds of pages each from PDF without any sweat, thanks to the built in duplexer, which is absolutley fantastic. I use it all the time now to save on paper. Warmup is instantaneous, and it flys through single sided sheets with almost no processing time. The network install was the easiest I have ever experienced. You just put in the included disc, follow the prompts, and you are done. This is a real office machine, not a wimpy home printer (which is why you should buy one for home, its cheap to run and you can''t kill it!) It has a real paper drawer, not the exposed paper tray like HPs, and a real bypass tray where you can place a stack of paper or envelopes, not just an envelope slot like other machines. And you can get additional trays (which I plan to do once the price comes down). You get a real amount of toner, not 1000 pages, then they charge you the same for toner as the price of another machine. This makes it worth while to buy the replacement toner, as you get 5,000 or 10,000 pages (about). The plastic will not discolor like the HPs, and it has a two-line LCD display. The web based tracking is also great.

What a major upgrade from my old machine, which was very robust in its day. And it was just few dollars more than I paid for that one way back when. The Samsung ML-3712ND has made my life much easier.

Nice speed & print quality, but that doesn''t do much good when it jams constantly. I can no longer operate this without having the back of the printer open (so I can catch the print as it spits out). If I leave it closed, the paper always jams up. This sucks, because every time I do a print job, I have to stand up to be in position to catch it. Obviously this is no good for collating multiple page printouts, which I often have to do by hand. This is a simple design flaw that should have been corrected before the machine was brought to market, and one that renders the printer an annoyance rather than an asset.

This machine did not work out of the box. Tried everything but no good. Returned it a bought a Brother. Perfect. Great return policy. Thank you.

We''ve had this printer in service for about seven months. Noticing the frequency of $110 cartridge purchases, we started tracking the number of pages per cartridge and found one cartridge produces only 1,000 pages. That''s the same production as HP printers in the office using a cartridge costing half as much. So long Samsung.

Canon PIXMA MP499 Wireless All-in-One Printer

Canon PIXMA MP499 Wireless All-in-One PrinterI just got this printer as a sale item for a little over $30 and am fairly happy with it so far. Pretty easy to set up with the provided software, ink is easier to install than in my old HP Photosmart printer. I was able to get it connected to several Android devices fairly easily with free or previously purchased apps which was amazing, and Conon has an app in the Android Play Store which allows you to work the scanner and print photos directly from your Android device which was cool. My only real complaint is the fact that it seems to not stay "online" for very long so I can''t just out of the blue decide I want to print from my computer because it seems to go "off line" after a certain duration and forces you to reset the printer (turn off and turn back on) before using it. Not sure if it''s just something I''m doing wrong but this is my experience with it. The prints are great and give you a lot of printing options.

A small wireless printer at good price. It can print, scan, copy without any problem. I love my new printer.

I love this printer, I have had it for 3-4 years and use it at a weekend school. I have printed about 60,0000 copies on it. Here is how to fix the 3 most common issues.

Have you noticed how the last page you get before you get the "Toner Life Ended" message is is perfectly clean and doesn''t seem to be lacking any toner? Because the cartridge is not really empty!

Here is a trick to make your cartridge print at least 1000 more copies..

Basically if light can pass through the 2 circular optical lenses on opposite sides of the cartridge due to less toner inside, the cartridge is jammed and you get the "Toner Life Ended" message.

When it happens, simply take the cartridge out, get some White Out, and paint the 2 circular optical lenses on opposite side of the cartridge.

Put it back in, print until it really runs out. If you are worried this will damage your cartridge, do not.. The printer had already indicated the cartridge was empty, so you have nothing to lose.

Paint the optical sensors, block the light, cartridge works!

When you get the Drum Life Ended message:

a. open the front cover

b. press the clear/back key

c. press 1 to reset

d. close the front cover.

You are done, it will count another 20,000 before warning you, but you may decide to replace earlier if not happy with quality of prints after some 10,000 more prints.

You can also refill each cartridge twice for about $10 each, just buy toner on eBay, for 7000 more copies.

This is an outstanding product.

It does it all. Copies, scans, and prints. It will print and copy doubled-sided documents. It will also scan double-sided documents through the document feeder as well.

I''m really impressed by the scanning software as it allows me to save my documents in a number of formats (Photoshop, jpg, bmp, and other files types, including PDF).

One thing that is very slightly misleading is the number of copies/prints you can get from a toner cartridge. When you see 3,500 (or 7,000 for the high-yield), that is only if you are using the toner saver mode (meaning you''re printing in either 300 or 600 dpi). The toner saver mode is a nice option, but the copies/prints tend to be light and not as easy to read. So if you are not using the toner saver mode, you can expect the number of copies/prints from a cartridge to be significantly less (I think I got somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 out of my standard yield cartridge). However, since there are numerous places to buy cartridges for discounted prices online, it isn''t that big of a deal to be getting a lower number. For instance, you can get a high-yield cartridge for about $45 and that will give anywhere from 3,500 to 4,000 copies/prints in the non-toner saver mode.

I definitely recommend this product. It is great for a small office (or even as a personal printer if you have a need for printing/copying double sided documents and will do a fair number of impressions [500 at minimum] per month).

As a public high school teacher, making copies at school takes a long time--the waiting lines and the non-collating abilities of the school''s old machines were problematic. I bought this multifunction machine to function strictly as a copier for my house. After wasting hours of time photocopying and collating multi-page short stories and assignments, I thought that this machine would be money well spent considering the time I would save.

The copying functions are stellar--it is relatively fast and the high-yield toner is set at a reasonable price. Because I live in a house with 5 other teachers, the expenses surrounding the machine are relatively low.

However, the printer has a propensity to curl copies upwards--even at settings and paper recommended by the manufacturer. Basically, if you have any ambitions to set up a copying and job and let it run without monitoring it, you should look at another option. After about 30 or 40 pages, the curled pages begin to run into the output pages, causing some pretty severe paper jams. Because of this paper curling, I find myself constantly monitoring the machine so the curled paper doesn''t get in the way.

A second problem is that the machine only comes with 32MB of RAM...so while the loading slot can hold up to 50 pages, it can only do 8 pages at a time before the memory runs out. Trying to buy new RAM is also a hassle because the suggested manufacturer provided in the manual changed their product codes so it is difficult to determine if the RAM you buy will match.

Do I regret buying this machine? No, not at all--I have saved hours of paper-sorting time because of the purchase. However, if I were to go back and choose a machine again, I might consider buying something with less problems than this one.

My 8065 arrived a few days ago. I bought it to replace my inkjet printer, and a scanner. I am happy with:

* installation: easy, for such a complex device. The installer asked all the right questions, and just worked on all my PCs.

* print quality: great. My old cheapo laser had trouble with printing Google maps, that''s why I got the inkjet. I am not sure why, but the drivers in this printer turn out easily legible maps.

And the sole point of unhappiness is:

* scanner: lots of banding while scanning color photos. The photo scans are unusable, even my kid looks wrinkled. I''ll have to keep my old scanner for an occasional photo scan.

Overall, happy with the purchase, and am looking forward to not replacing all those ink cartridges.

I''ve used this copier/printer for one year and am very happy with it. We share it over network among the whole family, between one Mac and several PCs. The functionality that comes at such a low price is amazing. I am especially fond of its automatic scanner sheet feeder which is build very solidly. I do lot of scanning, and it still has to miss a page.

After one year of using this product I can only regret that I haven''t bought it earlier. My previous multi-functional printer/scanners (HP) were a disappointment. Using this product, on the other hand, is a pleasure.
