This package was not water tight and the postal system must have ignored the writing because the product is damaged and unusable. It is a shame because I felt this was a great price.

I couldn''t pass up the chance to buy this many paper rolls for such a low price. I''ve always wondered why paper products are so expensive, but this was a great deal. I compared it to the more expensive rolls I usually get, and they are exactly the same except that if you look closely there are a lot of tiny red threads in the paper, but what do I care? It''s just a receipt, and they''re hardly noticeable. They work great in my Omni 3740 and shipping was extremely fast.

I was hesitant to purchase a Canon after reading reviews of similar products. Saw this at Costco as the previous reviewer, and I am very pleased with the purchase. Set up was 30 to 45 minutes out of box, scanned for network, laptop, and fax , inserted ink cartridges. Found inserting the ink to be the most difficult task, but honestly it was because I failed to look at the ink guides before inserting them. I put the larger black cartridge in the wrong place, again, my fault. The set up guide is clear enough. Pages print quickly after spooling. My documents are crisp and I have used several types of plain paper. Color printing was clear, true to pc/laptop screen. The color copies were not as sharp as I would like, but clear. I like that I can close the lid on a standard sized paperback textbook (225 pages). I have only had it for a week, its my new toy/workhorse!

Great buy!

Easy to Set up!

Fun to Use!

I am adding to the above review. I downloaded free android app Canon Easy photo print and was able to print wirelessly and effortlessly images from my Asus eee Transformer tablet and my Samsung Galaxy Tablet in minutes!! I have to figure out how to orient doc settings for tablet use--prints tablet screen size but for now, for me, it''s not an issue. The printer just keeps getting better.!

In my experience, printers, the complex plastic mechanical devices they are, are not probably going to last me more than three or four years. That being said, I am extremely pleased with my new Canon 712, and will enjoy it while it lasts.

The HP 8600 Pro Plus was highly rated by Consumer Reports, and so I picked one up at Costco. After spending two hours trying to set it up on my Windows XP, I called tech support, who spent two hours trying to do the same. They concluded that the printer was defective. Perhaps the software is simply not compatible with XP?

Taking the HP back for a full refund, I decided to stick with Canon, the brand I''ve had for the past eight or so years. I''ve had the Pixma MX 830, the 860, and the 860, and was pleased with them as long as they were functional. The 712 is a new model, having just come out in May 2012.

The 712 was easy to set up, except that I needed to buy a USB cable, not supplied with the unit. The printer has a slightly smaller footprint and a lower profile than the 860. The printing and scanning functions are very, very quiet, and the controls a logical carryover from the previous model. The second tray for a second paper source is a real boon. The best thing about this printer was the price: $110 at our local Costco, less than half of the price of the questionable HP 8600 and half the price of the Canon 860.

Overall, an extremely good printer in terms of function and price in a small home office scenario. Highly recommended!

Got this at Costco for about $117.00 tax included (Was $129.00 but they were running a $20 Instant Rebate). In my opinion a little bigger than I''d like for a home / home office printer. Setup was pretty straight forward if you have any experience with stuff like this. It took me about 20 minutes to unbox, setup, and connect to my wireless network. Worked right off the bat with no issues. I also like that you don''t have to have a USB connection if you have a wireless network. One less cable sticking out of something. I am using it with my Mac, PC, iPad and iPhone and it see''s them all with no problems. I really love the air print feature with "i" devices. Nice to print iPad emails without having to get up from my chair or forward to another computer. So far has worked flawlessly. I can''t comment on ink usage but there is no way it can be any worse than my old HP printer which was an ink hog. All in all, for the price it is pretty hard to beat.

PRO''s:

Price

Build Quality

Print Quality is Outstanding

Very high resolution and DPI make pictures look great.

Air Print / Wireless Features

CON''s:

Big and bulky for home use.

Not the fastest per page printer, but then again, I''m not in a race.

We have had this printer about a week. I replaced an old HP (about 6 years) that was still working, but the drivers need to keep being reinstalled. We wanted a free standing fax and this had it. This was so easy to set up (we are running on Mac 10.5.8, on four year old computers and have had no problems. I love that I can print from our iPad and when we upgrade from our iphone 3g to the new iphone5 we will be able to print from that as well. We are really pleased with the picture quality and plan on purchasing "non-canon" inks for eight dollars on ebay. I''ll update my review and let you know how it works. The printer is quiet and the copier works well. There weren''t a lot of reviews, but the ones we saw were good and so far we are very pleased. Also, my husband scans a lot of pictures from text books for lectures and said that the scanning feature is working great. Hope this helps! :)

We really like this unit...from the initial set-up to everyday use, the MX712 has been easy. We like the quality and speed...and we bought it for $109 at Costco.

  • Flat matte surface provides an excellent photographic platform
  • Convenient 17-inch-by-100-foot roll
  • Heavyweight, 10.3 mil stock
  • Bright white base accentuates highlights

I print large landscape panoramas on an Epson 4000 printer and soon to upgrade to an Epson 4880 on this paper. My panoramas can go anywhere from 4'' to 15'' in length and I love the results on this paper. I''d give it 5 stars except that the finished emulsion is very fragile. I sell my panoramas and treat each print that goes out the door with a giclee veneer to protect the finished surface of the print from any rough handling and to extend the colorfast qualities of the print.

This is original manufacturers paper and works very well in my Epson 4800. I hate loading individual sheets and this roll paper works great. Their is some waste obviously depending on the image format you are printing. Of course you need to use this with the mat black inks. So far I like the results very much. I am also thinking of buying the roll canvas.

Brother MFC-420CN Color Inkjet Network Multifunction

Brother MFC-420CN Color Inkjet Network Multifunction
  • Prints, copies, scans, and faxes
  • Up to 20 ppm print speed, up to 6,000 x 1,200 dpi resolution
  • Up to 17 cpm copy speed, reduces and enlarges 25 to 400%
  • 600 x 2,400 dpi scan resolution, 36-bit color; 6 seconds per page faxing
  • USB 2.0 and Ethernet interfaces; PC and Mac compatible

Update: Now I''ve had the Brother for over a year and a half, and I see that others have had bad luck with theirs. I will temper my original joy with the comment that my first unit did go bad (just wouldn''t print), but Brother replaced it with a new one during the warranty period. They are so inexpensive that I bought another one to see me through the two weeks of repair/replacement time. That was less than great, but now I have a backup, for still less than $300.

I''ve never experienced much in the way of paper jams, so I would guess that at this price point, Brother just isn''t providing consistent build quality. That''s too bad, because the prospect of a bad unit is a real disincentive. I''m still satisfied overall, but recognize that not everyone is having the same experience. And of course the downtime resulting in purchase of a second unit was a drag. I would consider a different printer, but Epson and HP have both been such poor experiences for me (with far inferior support), that I will still probably prioritize a new Brother model when I need to upgrade. No sign of that happening any time soon though.

August 30, 2006

---------------

Ok, I have only had this all-in-one for a little over a week. But after years of being a slave to the HP ink needle, I am so happy with it I want to dance.

I have never really seriously considered Brother in the past, and now I feel like I have been living in the wrong world. Like if someone told you "My new car does 0-60 in 5 seconds, gets 70 mpg, and cost $1500. What, you didn''t know about those?"

For less than $150, I now have a very compact printer with 10baseT ethernet (goodbye nightmarishly technical HP JetDirect 300x external network box), separate ink tanks for all colors, more advanced features than my 3 year old HP that cost around $1000 with the JetDirect, sharper printing, and best of all, real, honest-to-goodness Mac OS X support. Their software and documentation shows an absolute commitment to doing Mac right. (It took a year and a half for HP to get the Mac drivers for my OfficeJet to be minimally functional, and never did manage to handle things like scanning from the unit to a computer on the network.) Brother has earned a long-term customer here, and I am telling everyone I know.

Like any AIO, the quality of printing and scanning is probably not up to what you can get in stand alone units. But for general small office/home office use, it is more than fine. If you want the highest photo quality, get a specialized photo printer with a 6-color head. But actually, the photo quality on this unit is still far better than you could get at any price only a few short years ago. It''s just that we have gotten spoiled at the truly amazing quality of photo inkjets in the last couple of years.

I will probably get one of the Olympus dye-subs for photos eventually, but in the meanwhile, prints from this on photo paper are plenty good enough for posting on my refrigerator door. And the resolution and appearance of business graphics, while again possibly not up to what current stand-alones will do, are the best of any printer I have ever owned, and leagues ahead of the older HP OfficeJet I just gave away.

And the best part is, it could fall apart in 6 months, and still not cost much more to replace than I have been spending on HP ink cartridges. My OfficeJet sucked down ink like a storm drain, and the cartridges were EXPENSIVE. It became clear in short order that their business model was built around bleeding you dry on consumable costs. Those guys have quite a racket, but I''m happy to say I am out from under it.

Thanks Brother, I will sing your praises to the skies.

I must say overall I am very pleased with this printer:

Pros:

Networkable right out of the box. I connected it to my wireless router and was immediately able to print from my laptop using its wireless connection. Not just that, I can also scan to my laptop and fax from my laptop wirelessly!

PC Fax function is excellently implemented: very user friendly

Excellent B&W and color copy functionality using the document feeder

Much more compact than most multi-function machines

Uses four separate ink cartridges (3 color + Black) to reduce wastage

Decent quality of printed photos though not really a photo-printer

Has built-in slots for memory stick, SD, CF, etc.

Allows easy cleaning and alignment via the menu

Very cheap for the functionality: about a hundred bucks after rebates

Cons:

Stops ALL functioning even if a single ink cartridge is empty. Say the Cyan cartridge is empty not only can''t you print in color, you can''t print in black & white either. What''s more you can''t scan or fax either!! This is just bad design!

Sometimes claims the ink cartridge is empty even when there is a little bit sloshing around at the bottom.

Brother Tech support is TERRIBLE!!

By the way I found out details of the maintenance mode for this device after hunting around. This is quite useful, so here it is for anyone that needs it. Anyone getting errors that they can''t get out of (such as shows no ink though ink is there) should try to reinitialize parameters using commands 91 or 01 of the maintenance mode.

I bought this printer when it first came out. I thought "Ooooo, all in one PLUS an ethernet connection.. YES!!" Being the early adopter with not many reviews to read, I rushed to a retailer and swooped it off the shelf. For a period of 6 months, this was a PLAYER! I had good prints, scans, and copies (never tried the fax machine). Then after the 6 months, the printer developed a bad personality. Some of the "quirks":

1) The printer now tells me on each print-out that it''s out of ink (often, several flavors). I just out the cartridge to reveal a more-than-half-full tank of magenta. Admittedly, these are pretty small tanks, but it''s not empty! I attempted to clear the cartridges nozzle with a cartridge cleaning solution. That worked... for about a day. Then, BEEP BEEP BEEP ***GIVE ME INK!***

And it gets better. If you actually runs out of ink in one of the cartridges... *drumroll* the printer refuses to print, scan, or copy. *cymbal crash* GENIUS! Either this is a ploy to force ink purchases or the engineers suffered from a bad case of stupid.

2) I never did clean the print heads, because the printer was sure to clean itself every day (YUM, YUM, INK!!!) Over time, I had to adjust the print settings to "fine" (instead of normal) to get a decently-clean printout. Otherwise, my printouts were Dali paintings.

3) Admittedly, the printer takes up very little space. This is partially because the #$%*&$*# paper tray can only hold 50 sheets of paper. So, I''ve heard my fair share of BEEP BEEP BEEP ***GIVE ME PAPER***

And this was just at first. Now as the personality of the printer has become stronger, the printer and I often have the following dialog. Fellow 420CN owners can probably relate.

Me: I''ll just print out this article.

420CN: OK... Wait dude, you''re out of Magenta.

Me: (taking out cartridge) Uh, no dude. We''re good on Magenta.

420CN: BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!

Me: Ok ok ok (cleans the magenta cartridge and reinserts it).

420CN: And Yellow!!!

Me: You''ve got to be kidding me... (cleans yellow and reinserts)

420CN: Ok, hang on. I''m bathing in Magenta and Yellow. tra-la-laaaa!!

Me: *sigh*

420CN: BEEP BEEP BEEP

Me: WHAT!!!!!!!

420CN: I can''t print. Check the troubleshooting manual.

Me: For what?

420CN: BEEP BEEP BEEP

Me: (opens scanner cover, closes it)

420CN: Please wait...................

420CN: Ok, here comes some data. (sound of one page printing)

420CN: BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!!!

Me: FOR THE LOVE OF.....

420CN: Data remaining.... (long pause)

Me: (attempts to turn off printer)

420CN: Printer will power off until pending tasks are finished...

Me: (unplugs and plugs in printer)

420CN: *YAWN* Waking up. Please wait, drinking ink... *GLUG GLUG GLUG*

Me: WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!!!!!!!

420CN: BUY MORE INK!!!!!!!

In conclusion, nothing would please me more than backing a truck over this stinking, steaming pile of flawed electronics. I would advise anyone to avoid buying this printer. If you already have one, I feel your pain. I am now shopping for a replacement. After finding one, I will recreate the printer smashing scene from Office Space. :-)

I have owned this for 4 months and have been pleased thus far, until today. I only use it as a fax and copier. I have a seperate printer at my office so it is not even hoked up to my computer. Today I received the warning that my color cartridges are out of ink, so it totally shuts down. I cannot even send a fax. The problem is that I have never used color. I always copy in black and white, same with the fax. Apparently it cleans itself periodically like a cat and that uses a small amount of ink. It is rated for 400 pages of color, so 100 pages of ink a month just for cleaning seems excessive to me. It is frustrating to spend c.$40 for color even though I never plan on using it. Perhaps those were the sample cartridges that came with it and they did not have the same capacity as standard ones. Other than that, as a fax machine and flatbed copier, it works great. Good value and small size.

Pros: Compact size, Network interface, xD, et al printing, Large ink cartridges, fax compatable with ans machine

Cons: Slow printing, copying, typical cryptic fax tree menu

I looked carefully for this new offering of Brother because of Network connectivity and the small size. It takes half the space of my previous All-in-One Xerox Workcenter, and the fax does not scream at every caller on my line--it just waits for an incoming fax tone before responding ("manual" mode), then it comes to life--even if you pick up the receiver (upstairs), and it even ignores my answering machine. Very Slick! It connects to my computer via USB2 AND network cable, and it can allow faxes to go to the computer instead of printing. For $150, this is a bargain. So far I have no paper jams or problems. Note the limitation of 10 pages in the copy/fax paper feeder, but there is a 100 page paper tray. For home use, this answers my needs completely!

I had a little trouble registering at the site (Sunday Night)--it locked up without entering me--but I''ll try later.

  • HP ePrint - Now print from your smartphone or tablet from virtually anywhere!

  • Save paper with automatic 2-sided printing

I needed to replace my ancient HP 970CSE printer which was marginal for years, esp. on any picture printing.

Went to Best Buy, and walked out with this for $99 it seemed to have enough capability for my occasional use requirements, without being too big and bulky...I did not need a document feeder or fax, for example...but the ability to fool around with photos seemed like fun. 4 years of warranty was an additional $40.

I was initially put off by the "Photosmart" title, as opposed to the utilitarian-sounding "Deskjet" I was replacing. In fact, I was considering a Deskjet 3520 with its monochrome display, but the store guy [it took me talking to two people to get enough information] convinced me that this was a better unit. It used the #564 cartridges, which were a lot more economical, at $10/ea. than the #78 cartridge for the old 970. OK, there were now 4 ink cartridges, but I don''t see using that much colored ink, just mainly black.

Brought the printer home, hooked it up, and it ran flawlessly! Did 120 sheets of black [mostly]/red/blue printing, and the ink status gauges barely moved. This printer just spits out the sheets in draft mode...really fast!

Tried a photo from the internet on plain paper, and it was great. Using the 4 x 6 sample pack of photo paper that came with the printer, I printed a photo from the hard disc of the PC that was outstanding. The camera mamory slot on the printer will not take my XD memory card, but I can load them into the PC, as I have been doing. This stuff would use up the colored inks, I know, if I make a habit of it.

The printer will give a status report if asked, and even print out a sudoku puzzle, or calendar, or even notepaper/ graphpaper. The copying feature is new to me, and will prove useful...it will even do a decent job duplicating old photos, either on plain paper, or photo paper. Not bad for no "photo black" capability.

All in all, it fits my needs perfectly, and works very well.

In all fairness I did not purchase this item through Amazon, but directly from HP. The unit I received did not print anything correctly... all documents were reproduced somewhat askew and I am not sure if it was due to the paper not feeding properly or due to some other issue. However, the same misalignment problems occurred with all types of paper used. The unit was replaced by HP and unfortunately the second unit made a God-awful scraping noise upon setup which resulted in the cartridges jamming which in turn caused the unit to be inoperable. A third unit was subsequently dispatched and that machine reacted exactly like the first device. I then requested and received a refund from HP. So... as the saying goes... three strikes and you''re out!

I hope this review serves as a forewarning to any prospective buyers... I certainly wasted quite a bit of time trying to resolve the various issues that I had with this contraption. So you have been duly warned. Caveat emptor as the saying goes!

This is not a quality printer. The wireless feature is great but like all other reviews, this has a terrible problem with paper jams and not loading paper. I have only owned about a month and now have tried to search three days for a solution of this only loading paper half way, acting as if it is printing and then giving you a paper jam message. Bought 8 dollar premium HP paper but didn''t work. Went through all the HP solutions to no avail. Finally flipped it over and got out the flash light. Well guess what, something did not look right:

Turn over the printer to view the bottom side

Remove the paper tray

Look to the left side and you will see a big black gear

You should see a white gear that turns it

MY WHITE GEAR HAD POPPED TO THE SIDE OF IT AND WAS NOT TURNING THE BLACK GEAR

It seemed to be spring loaded so I GENTLY pushed the white gear back to where it was operating the black gear.

Works perfect.

Hope this might help anyone else who cannot get this thing to load a piece of paper

Set up for the HP 5520 was very easy. Printed one page documents from my home network and iphones. Started to print a 17 page document and the printer jammed. I cleared the jam as directed from the website but the printer hasn''t worked since. The paper keeps jamming even though there are no obstructions.

Overall, I like this printer. It prints good quality and fast. It is setup easily. Now I can print from any device at home with the wireless printing. I can even print from my iPad.

From my experience, the only drawback of this printer is the paper loader. It gets jammed sometimes most likely when there is only one paper on the loader. So be careful with that. Try to put a few pages even you are only printing one paper.

The 210XL gives you 66% more ink (15ml vs 9ml). It also doesn''t cost much more. The only reason the regular 210 cartridge exists is so they can give you less than a full tank of ink when you buy the printer. Don''t fall for it, buy the bigger 210XL.

I feel that the cartridge went dry much too quickly, especially when you consider how much these things cost. But that is the deal, buy the printer for a reasonable price and get shafted on the cartridges. I guess this is why so many people simply buy cartridge ink refill kits and just refill the old cartridge. I think Canon would be wiser to make their own product more reasonably priced. I am sure they do market research and figure at what point they lose market share on refill kits. Having said all this, I am happy with the printer itself.

I am updating this review. I have now gone through one more of these cartridges. Someone said you are supposed to get about 220 pages out of it. I only print for school and have in my notebook all the pages I have ever printed out for the last cartridge save, at most, 5 pages. They don''t come anywhere near this number. I would say it is about 120-150 pages tops. Above I said I was happy with the printer. However, I am no longer happy with a company that thinks taking advantage of its customers is acceptable and therefore I am no longer happy with the printer. I would now tell you to not buy this printer and only buy refill kits if you already have one. I just bought one from Fry''s and it is working fine. Canon can take a flying leap.

If you do your homework before buying the printer you will know that you can get a larger ink cartridge with 66% more ink for about 25% more in cost. Check it out. The number is PG-210XL.

I bought a new MX330 to use primarily as a scanner, and to print the occasional photo. I use a cheap Laser printer to print out everything else. You can buy a Brother or HP laser printer for the cost of a few sets of ink cartridge refills, so the price per page drops to about 2 cents. If I want to copy something, I scan it to a PDF, and then print it out on the laser.

How do you expect Canon (or anyone else) to sell an all-in-one for a hundred dollars and stay in business? King Gillette made his fortune by giving away the razor and selling the blades. Case closed.

I sometimes telecommute from my engineering job, and when at home I often do CAD (computer aided drafting) for making, reviewing and updating engineering drawings. I also have a small micro-publishing business for sheet music. Both of these make the ability to print on wide format paper desirable. By wide format, I am referring to paper larger than normal ''Letter (8.5" x 11")'', ''legal'', or similarly sized European paper standards. The most common for me is 11" x 17", often called ''planograph'' size.

Printers that can operate with these paper sizes tend to be professional models that are large, heavy, and very expensive ($2000 and above).

I used to own a used HP Laserjet 5100, which did the 11x17 paper, was fast, but did not have duplexing (double-sided) capabilities built-in (i.e. manual duplexing only). My biggest problem was space...it was so large and heavy that I had no space for it on a day-to-day basis, but it was so difficult to move to a storage area when not in use. Also, it got old and cranky after half a million prints, and toner got expensive. A lot of expense and bother for a printer that would be used occasionally.

After scoping around, I decided that my next wide format printer would be an inkjet type instead of a laser. Epson seemed to have the best machines of this type, at least in an affordable price range of less than $200 street price. A friend had an older Epson wide format in his factory and was quite happy with it. And I was a satisfied owner of an Epson Workforce 40 injet printer (see my Amazon review of that one too), so I thought highly of the Workforce series.

The WF-7010 is Epson''s stand-alone wide format injet printer. It is intended for small offices, and is equipped with Ethernet 10/100 and high speed USB 2.0 connectivity. Since Epson apparently feels that WiFi is not commonly used in offices, where they prefer wired connections for security and other reasons, this printer does not have wireless connectivity. It is a large printer at about 22" wide x 16" deep x 10" tall, but it is fairly light weight at about 25 pounds; it is light enough to be easily carried from place to place if desired, and would not overwhelm a light-duty shelf or small table. It does not shake a lot when in operation, so table sturdiness should not be an issue. Depending on the paper sized used, the printer''s front-to-rear depth can grow to accommodate the extra paper lengths.

The WF-7010 comes with two paper trays; according to some older reviews, the trays cannot both accept the same sized paper, but on mine both trays are identical and can accept any allowed paper size. I have tray 2 (the lower tray) set up for 11x17 paper, and this makes the printer''s total front-to-rear depth about 22.5". Tray 1 (the top tray) is set up for 8.5 x 11 paper and in this configuration it fits flush into the printer and does not add to the overall depth. The paper exit tray pulls out of the front of the printer and telescopes to a maximum that makes the overall printer depth about 27"; if you are not using the largest paper sizes, you don''t need to telescope the exit tray so far out. Each paper tray has a retracted mode and an extended mode. For sizes up to ''legal'', the trays can remain in retracted mode. For larger size papers, you press a button inside the tray and this allows it to telescope into a larger tray. It clicks into a detent so that it is locked in the larger tray size until the button is pressed again to allow it to retract into the smaller tray size.

The trays are all-plastic, but are adequately strong and they can hold up to half of a ream of paper each (250 sheets), for a total paper capacity of 500 sheets. Each tray has internal sliding partitions to keep the paper centered in the correct position. Both trays have a removable gray-tinted plastic dust cover; these are not much use when the trays are in their retracted mode (where they fit fully inside the printer), but they are nice when the trays are in their extended mode where they partly extend outside the printer. Note that, unlike many laser printers with extended sized paper trays, the extended WF-7010 trays protrude from the front of the printer instead of the rear.

The WF-7010 has limited duplexing (automatic double-sided printing) capability. When printing to ''normal'' sizes, and to regular paper as opposed to envelopes and such, it is fully auto-duplexing; it prints on one side, automatically pulls the paper back in and flips it, prints the other size and ejects it, then repeats for the next sheet. For larger papers, such as 11x17, I noticed an oddity. When I first got the printer, it allowed me to select duplex for even the larger papers, but it would print all the odd numbered pages normally, then instruct me to move the printed sheets from the exit tray to the paper tray and press a ''resume'' button on the computer screen, and then it would proceed to print the second side of each sheet...this is not an uncommon way of providing a semi-automatic duplex capability. But the printer driver prompted me to upgrade the printer firmware, and after I did that the option for selecting duplex on larger paper sizes is now grayed out and I cannot select it; it still works fully automatically on normal paper sizes.

Epson says that the speed of the WF-7010 is fastest in its class, and they list 15 PPM (pages per minute) for black and white and 8 PPM for color. I ran a 4 page text document, on 8.5" x 11" (i.e. ''letter'' sized) paper, and clocked the printer at 15 seconds for single sided and 27 seconds for duplex. This equates to 16 PPM for single sided and almost 9 PPM for duplex. Printing color does seem to take about twice as long as printing in black-only, but I did not clock its speed.

Epson says that the minimum paper size for the WF-7010 is 3.5" x 5", and the maximum ''user defined'' size is a whopping 13" x 44" (normal largest size is 13" x 19", or 2 inches larger in each dimension than 11 x 17 paper). This bit about 44" has me a bit boggled. The user manual that gets installed on your computer along with the printer driver does not mention such a large paper size, and says simply that the maximum is 13" x 19". But the printer is capable of doing multi-sheet posters, where it automatically tiles larger images onto multiple sheets of paper, in any of these user-selectable layouts: 2x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4. And when you are selecting the desired paper size in the driver, it does allow selections of up to 13" x 44", but it does not explain how to feed such a large size as 44". As a test, I randomly selected a photo and printed to to the WF-7010; in the driver I selected ''multi-sheet'' and selected the 4x4 option, and also selected 11x17 paper from the tray. The printer produced 16 sheets, and when I laid them out on the floor I saw that it had indeed tiled the photo to a total size, with all 16 pages included, of 31" x 40". I had not set the printer driver to print all the way to the edges of the paper (which it will indeed do), but it is obvious that the WF-7010 can be used to produce very large multi-sheet tiled posters and such. To resolve the 44" question, I called Epson technical support; I was able to reach them without delay on a Saturday (this is better them most companies offer). The default tech support person did not know the 44" paper question''s answer, so the problem was referred to a ''level 2'' tech, who also did not know and had to put me on hold for several minutes. He came back and stated that the WF-7010 does indeed allow printing on roll paper up to 13" wide and 44" maximum length (e.g. for printing banners), but it is a very manual operation; the lower paper tray (tray 2) is removed from the printer, and the long paper is inserted into a slot in the rear of the printer''s internals and hand fed until the printer grabs it. I don''t have any long paper handy, so I have not verified this feature.

Some other points:

The printer driver auto-selects the correct tray for the paper, as long as you take the time to tall the driver which sizes of paper are inserted into each of the two trays; this is done through the Windows or MAC printer configuration and instructions are included in the user guide. Otherwise, you will have to manually tell the driver every time you want to print using different trays.

The printer does NOT come with any data cables; you must buy your USB or Ethernet cable separately.

The printer does come with four ink cartridges in black, magenta, yellow, cyan; these are the T127 type. The printer accepts either the normal capacity T126 or the high capacity T127. I think it is nice that Epson chooses to supply the printer with the high capacity cartridges, which are specified to produce approximately 945 sheets from the black cartridge and 766 sheets from the color cartridges. The OfficeMax where I bought the printer told me that the cartridges provided with the printer are "low capacity good for only a few copies", but I see no evidence of this. Epson''s website states that the printer comes with full T127 capacity cartridges, and my experience with my other Workforce printer suggests that the included cartridges are the same capacity as what would be purchased when it comes time to replace them.

The printer has a basic control panel without a display. It has five pushbuttons and seven LED lights. The buttons are Power, Ethernet information/setup, paper feed, ink cartridge access, and delete print job. The LEDs are Power, Ethernet activity, paper misfeed/user action required, and ink low/ink out for each of the four cartridges.

The printer works just fine with the cover open, so you can see what it is doing.

The paper feed & duplexer assembly can be detached from the rear of the printer for cleaning and/or removing misfed paper. It detaches by pressing two recessed buttons no tools are required.

The Workforce series is fast partially because it prints such a wide swath on each pass of the print head. Instead of the narrow band of perhaps 1/4" width that most injet printers lay down, the Workforce lays down about 1" on each pass. This is due to the head design, which includes the wide nozzle; the ink cartridges do not have nozzles, as they are simply ink containers that feed the ink head. This means that when you replace an ink cartridge, you are not replacing the ink head itself. On some printers, this could mean problems due to possible nozzle clogging, but Epson has worked out the Workforce head and ink formulation so that this is not an issue. In my experience, and that of associates who also use Workforce printers, the printers have never been disabled due to chronic nozzle clogging. Indeed, I have only once, with my older Workforce 40, had to run a nozzle clearing operation after the printer sat unused for many months, and running to operation once did the trick.

The printer will print on all the usual paper types, such a bond, coated paper glossy and matte photo papers, envelopes. Its print quality is typical of most other contemporary inket printers, but faster as previously mentioned.

Build quality is good, and the printer feels quite solid.

The printer is quiet, but not as quiet as a typical laser printer.

Buy Epson WorkForce WF-7010 Wide-Format Color Inkjet Printer (C11CB59201) Now

PROS -fast on text documents, will print up to 13 x 19 inches (approx 33 x 48 cm), two paper drawers & large ink cartridges, two sided printing

CONS -photo printing not great, no wireless connection, nozzles susceptible to clogging, setup snags, no cord included, no PictBridge interface.

SUMMARY -it does what it says, but consider other models also.

This is a basic stripped-down printer (no wifi, no scanner, no USB cord, etc.) that has the advantage of being able to print on large paper. This makes it easy to print off a poster about something, a large map to put on a wall, personalized gift-wrap, a large page which is folded to make a custom letter-sized folder, etc. However, if you need a large format printer, there are others in this price range to consider (from both Epson and others) which provide more features and/or better quality photo printing.

It prints text documents fairly quickly, however, it prints photos rather slowly.

If you want a quality photo printer, this is not the printer for you. When I printed the same photo on my years-old HP printer and this, the Epson photo had weaker colors, and fuzzier edges and lines, and slightly different (worse) color balance, no matter what paper was used (I tried premium papers from both Epson and HP). At a glance, my not-too-discerning partner immediately noticed the difference between the photos printed on the two printers.

The "DuraBrite Ultra" ink that this printer uses is their basic general purpose ink (it is not one of the special inks for artistic applications -search for "Epson Ink Solutions" if you want to know more.)

>> Documentation:

The behavior of the printer setup didn''t match the documentation (I am using Mac 10.6.8). After installing the ink cartridges, it was supposed to begin the priming process, but after about 15 minutes (during which I was prowling through the software and documentation) I checked the status, and it said that the cartridge types were not recognized. That was fixed by turning the printer off and then back on. Again, when printing the first test page, it hung (with a communication error), again remedied by a power cycle.

There were other important things lacking (or mismatching) in the documentation:

Apparently small-sized papers go only in the top drawer, according to the marks in the drawer itself, and the software size options for drawer 1 versus drawer 2.

The printed instructions said to shake the cartridges, tear open the plastic, and install the cartridges. Hmmm, there are some little yellow plastic strips which say to remove them, the instructions don''t mention them, but I guess I should. Then later the online documentation said not to remove anything or ink would leak. Huh, which is it? (It seems to be working fine, with the strips removed as they themselves said to do).

And, there are a bunch of important things buried in the bottom of the the outline structure of the documentation. Things like how to set the paper size in the two drawers, how to turn on or off paper-size mismatch checking, etc.

SECRETS OF PRINTING IN BLACK: One of the really important things to know about this printer is how to force it to keep printing in black, even if you run out of a color: bring up the guide and search for the "Expended Color" for details. Otherwise, once you have run out of any ink color, all printing is disabled.

>> Concern About Nozzles:

I have avoided Epson printers for years, because of prior bad experience with constantly clogging nozzles. With Epson printers, you don''t get a new print head with each ink cartridge replacement while this is cheaper in the short run, it can cause problems in the long run. In the past, I would have to constantly run nozzle checks, have to waste ink "cleaning" them, and have to resort to alcohol on a q-tip because Epson''s own print head cleaning procedures were not adequate.

Basically, before printing anything, you should run a nozzle check to make sure none of them are clogged. Every time. Sure enough, with this brand-new out of the box printer, a nozzle was clogged. Often this will fix itself with another nozzle check, but it did not, so I had to waste ink by running the nozzle clean procedure which did fix it.

But then later in the same day, before printing another photo, again a nozzle check showed another clogged nozzle, but this time, a second nozzle check fixed it. It remains to be seen whether this current printer will have constant nozzle problems, or whether Epson''s priming and cleaning procedures have been improved over time.

My six year old and I just installed our new Epson printer and I''m definitely no computer genius, so it was easy, to say the least. This thing is quite large, which is to be expected from a printer that can print 13x19" copies, so finding just the perfect place to put it took some rearranging of furniture. The six step set-up process was very easy. We''ve had a few bad experiences in the past trying to use the installation cd that comes with devices. So, we went straight to the Epson website, downloaded and installed the printer driver with no problems. The printer uses one black and three color ink cartridges. The color ones look about half the size of the black.

The printer only comes with the power cable. You have to provide your own USB cable to connect it to your computer or your own Ethernet cable for networking. Luckily we had a USB cable amongst years of saving cables from other devices.

We''ve made a few test pages and are extremely pleased. The copies are crisp even on cheaper copy paper. We''ve found it is much more cost effective to print our photos through an online site and pick them up in store as opposed to buying photo quality paper and ink cartridges on top of ink cartridges.

Many of my crafting friends have different models of the Workforce, so I''m planning on using mine in concert with my craft hobby by printing images on fabric, printable vinyl, and transfer paper. I was able to print on fabric with ease by ironing freezer paper onto the back and printing on the regular settings. If you are planning on using this for a craft where you need to know which side the printer prints on the paper, by default, it prints face down. I needed to know to print on the fabric and just had to figure it out by marking the paper and testing it. You would have to know to print on transfer paper as well. I uploaded a picture of the printer and the printed fabric to show how large it is and how well the fabric turned out. I''m extremely happy with this printer already and can''t wait to try everything else I possibly can on it.

I have had several printers over the years, as I''m sure you have. I can''t say that this is the best printer I have seen, or even owned. It is not a laser printer, so I didn''t think it was fair to compare it to printers in different classes. I also did not compare it to multi-function printers. Of the several of those I have owned, most were below average scanners and only print standard size paper.

This printer is really designed for a workplace that needs this special functionality. As many people have said, it is big. I knew that when I ordered it, and I knew that it had to be big to handle big paper. That ability alone sets it apart from most printers.

I have to admit, I am not an expert in printers and specifications. I am interested in how well it does what it should do. I found the printer very easy to set up. The paper trays hold 500 sheets, so it doesn''t need to be refilled often. It is easily the fastest inkjet printer I have owned, and the duplex works perfectly. I have probably printed 100 pages so far with no jams.

One of my favorite features is the type of ink cartridges it uses. They seem to last a long time and they are much less expensive to purchase. I gave away my Canon PIXMA iP4700 (which was an excellent printer) because it was so expensive to buy the small cartridges. This will not print photos as well as the Cannon, but it is not designed for that.

Bottom Line: This printer will not appeal to everyone, but it was not intended for a broad market. For what it was designed for, printing large double-sided document fast, I think it is an excellent printer.

Save 35% off

Okay, so the PROS first:

This feels solid, not cheap plastic like my other printer. Both the top and the paper tray drawers also feel solid, not floppy, which is a noticeable problem if you look at printers in a chain store (some of the drawers feel like they''d break off easily). So, that makes it feel like quality. It looks good.

It comes with a sample pack of paper, which is helpful (see below on why). The ink cartridges are extra-large capacity so they don''t need to be changed as often, and single color replacements are possible (see more on that below too).

CONS:

First off, I had trouble even at Office Max finding paper for this beyond the sample pack. Not sure why, but that may be an issue for you. Also, I used to think single color replacements were great, and that they''d save money. Not so, because if one color (say, cyan or magenta) is running out, it''s not going to compensate. You will get a warning and then none of the colors, not even black, will work. I haven''t run out on this model yet, of course, but my previous one did and being out of one color didn''t save me, it still required a trip to purchase the color before I could do more b/w printing. Argh.

The other thing is you are tied to an ethernet cable instead of wireless. That''s sort of outdated, I think, at least if you are using a laptop at home. In an office, maybe not such a big deal. But this isn''t big enough for an office.

Take a look at the 7520 before you buy, it has more options and wi-fi.

Also, the heavier cardstock has a bit of a bleed on color prints, not terribly noticeable, but I printed some pics of close up jewelry and it was enough that I noticed on the finer details.

It''s not a laser, so the images aren''t laser color, but pretty good. The ink is supposed to be instant drying, but I did notice on two-sided pages that it still felt like it would smudge, not that it did. Like there was a heaviness to the page after. But, that said, I don''t plan on doing many two sided prints so it may not be an issue.

As far as usage, I''m usually pretty comfortable with installing and using stuff like this, but figuring out the printing options wasn''t that easy. Took me awhile with the manual to figure out how to orient some of it, so it wasn''t "instinctive". Then again, I haven''t had a two-sided printer before either. I think for a small business, this might be very helpful. However, while it says 2 reams of paper before running out of ink, that isn''t really very much. Normally, as a student and mom, I use about a ream a month, so....ink expenses could run up.

All in all, I like it. For home and student use, it would be great, especially a kid doing colorful school projects. For a small office/business, no. And really, couldn''t they make them in white once in awhile? It looks dusty fast.

I needed a photo printer that produced excellent pictures, was easy to use, and had a small footprint. The HP 325 Photosmart filled all of my needs. The photo quality is excellent and it takes up very little space. My wife isn''t exactly a techie, so I wanted a photo printer that was very easy to use. All she has to do is plug in her CF card, choose a picture, and hit print. No need for the computer. I can use Photoshop to adjust my pictures and then easily print photo quality 4x6''s. Highly recommended. The only drawback is the small screen size. You can pay $50 more for the next model up for a larger screen and a few more on-printer options though.

Printer has proven to be EXCELLENT as far as I have used it. Won it in a contest, so I''m not complaining. ;)

I have printed out some pictures and find the quality to be EXCELLENT. The speed of printing is also fast and the printer prints BORDERLESS photos (which is a handy feature).

As with any product there are a few cons.

1) Printer is a PHOTO printer. That means you won''t be printing out an 8X10s; you can only print 4X6 photos (but I''m expecting you know this already..)

2)Cable to hook to PC is *not* included. If you want to transfer pictures from your computer, don''t expect to get a cable with your printer. The cable is sold separately. However, a flash/USB drive will work perfectly.. Just plug the USB drive into your computer, stick the pictures on it, then plug the USB drive into your printer.

---------

The printer can recognize MANY different formats, SD cards, USB input devices (photo iPod, flash drive, etc..) Which is very convenient. It can also view the pictures straight from your camera (make sure it''s compatible, most are..)

If you''re looking to just print photos and want a light-weight and portable printer, this is the item for you!

I have had the 325 model for less than a year. Up until recently I was satisfied with its performance using it to print less than 5 pictures at a time. Recently, I needed to print a series of pictures (more than 10 in one sitting) and had an error message-print cartridge jam-I fixed the paper jam but continued to get the error message. I called HP and they stated this was a fatal error in the unit and encouraged me to purchase the updated model rather than fix my printer. I searched the internet for a solution only to find that others had encountered this and the solution was to purchase the "new''modelA not very cost effective solution as this was not supposted to be a disposable model.

I have owned the hp photosmart,325 ,for two months now. The machine is easy to use, compact, and portable. The battery is not included,!!nor is the printer cable.!!!the unit works well and i highly recommend it.!!!Please note if the printer cable and battery, had been inclued with this package!!!,I would have given this a 5 star rating.

I highly recommend this printer. I did plenty of research and came to the conclusion that this printer offers the best features for the price. The other HP model (HP 375) offers a photo preview screen but costs more. I saw a retail store rep print the same image on HP and Epson printers and the HP printers usually were faster with equal or better photo quality. My family has used this printer for a month now and it is so much fun. Great job HP!

I purchased this printer as a gift for our family for Christmas. We have not owned a printer in 8 years but instead depended on printing at work or emailing documents or taking pictures to Walgreens or Walmart for printing.

After owning several inkjet printers in schools and always being frustrated at the tremendous waste in the cartridges clogging and drying out due to very intermittent use and having to be replaced at great expense this printer has seemed to make a good compromise.

It is perhaps a bit overkill for home use, but it integrated like a charm in our combination wired and wireless home network using both Windows and OS X machines. And we love the duplexing.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a durable and convenient home network printer.

I have owned this printer for over a year. It produces excellent and professional looking copies. I have received numerous compliments on the brochures and pieces printed by it. On the negative side, its reproduction of pictures in the enhanced photo mode often causes jams, especially when using photo laser paper. However, again once copied the finished product is very good. However, be warned that the replace ink cubes are outrageously expensive. I discovered this quickly as I needed to purchase new cubes after less than 1000 copies. As I shopped around for the best price, I was able to purchase a complete dual set of cubes for close to $500. They cost more than the printer. On these cubes I am running about 1500 per cube. As I check prices out now, you are lucky to find a complete set at less than $550. In hind site, though I love the quality of the reproductions and the eco-friendly factor, I would not purchase it. If Xerox could find a way to produce the ink at a more reasonable price, than I would highly recommend this product. But not now!

First off, we have absolutely no previous retail experience using registers. Our reasons for purchasing this register were based on the appearance and on some of the features in the product description. We liked the small display that faces the customer. Also we thought we might need this sort of machine to interface with potential credit card readers. We did read the reviews on Amazon, and at least some of the reviewers felt there was a steep learning curve to get up and running with this unit, so that was a concern. How hard could it be? The answer is a lot harder than setting up an ipod, or using a laptop, and it isn''t made any easier by the user guide which seems to explain many things except the basics. We are using this machine to ring up sales at our small winery, so we don''t have that many items that need to be programmed with departments and plu''s. I think we have a dozen items programmed and this machine can literally do thousands of items. It has capabilities and functions far beyond what we will ever require. But we have figured out how to program the different tax rates, case discount, bottle deposits etc. We have also learned how to "batch out" the daily sales and clear the register. It does seem to work well once you get the hang of it but this did take us weeks, being busy trying to get our business up and running. At one point we did consider returning the item as we were not making good progress. We didn''t need this machine for our credit cards, as the cc unit operates independently in our configuration. We give this 4 out of 5 mainly from a documentation standpoint, as in more would be better. Overall, this seems to be well made and has a professional appearance, but unless you have previous experience with this type of machine, be prepared to spend some time figuring out how to operate it.

I got this for my small coffee shop so I could track sales more accurately, and I like that I can save reports

to an SD card. Your different categories, products, clerks, and receipt text can be set up using the free

PC software (available at ). Programming can also be done on the machine

itself, but there''s lots of steps involved.

Using the register is straight forward. The screen is bright and clear, receipt paper is quick to change, the register feels well made, and a great value. A quick start guide is included too.

My review will be skewed because this is the first ECR that I''ve ever bought and set up, and I''ve only used a register at Walgreen''s in high school without knowing how to program it. I will explain my rating and then give more details later.

I am giving this 5 stars because it fulfills my needs (please note what I will write about what features I needed and did not need), but subtracting 1 star (maybe 2) because the instructions can be unclear and I need to email Sharp to answer some of my questions. The new price on Amazon was the best I could find. Most retailers were selling for at least $200.

My needs are a couple hundred PLUs for preset pricing, only a few clerks, only several departments. My bonus wants were a nice multi-line LCD, RS232 port for credit card terminal hookup, and programming on PC and paperless reports through an SD card. The XE-A207 does all of this, and the price is only $140 on amazon, which seems good to me, although I''ve never bought a cash register before. What I didn''t need and what this product didn''t have is a bar code scanner for UPCs, other ports for peripherals such as a scale, and a larger cash box. For more functions, you''d either need a higher model such as the XE-A507, or a customizable POS system. If you didn''t need the SD card or the single RS232 port, or fewer PLUs, then you could get the XE-A106, which i think is about $80-$90. I don''t know much about other brands. It seems that the other large manufacturer of small-business ECRs is Casio, but their product descriptions on their website were too vague to figure out which one I needed, so I focused on Sharp products.

For me, the programming is not that hard, but this is almost certainly subjective. The menus are navigated just like any menu in an electronic device. You go in and out of the menu tree with arrow keys and enter/escape keys, and edit the settings with the keypad. The departments and PLUs probably take the most time to set up, and you can also do it on your computer with an SD card. However, you need the full-sized SD card, not a smaller SD form with an adapter. You need to download a small standalone program from Sharp, called a Customer Support Tool. The software is fairly simple, but may take extra time to learn for some people.

What I don''t like was that the instruction manual is often vague. It was probably written in Japanese, then translated to English. It''s not that the grammar is incorrect, but that the names of the settings and some of the choices sometimes are not self-explanatory. The manual also does not give a lot of description for the choices and functions. You often have to perform trial-and-error to figure out how to do things. For example, I had no idea what it meant to change a credit card payment''s "tender" to "inhibit" or "compulsory." After trial-and-error, my best guess is that inhibit means you can only charge whatever the subtotal is, and compulsory means you can and must enter how much was charged to the card. Discounts do not reduce tax by default, and I was confused because you have to set the discount''s "tax," or "taxable" according to the manual, to "yes." That is confusing because you''d think discounts are NOT taxable, so that tax is applied after the discount is taken off. Another example is that the manual mentions testing the connection to a credit card terminal, but does not explain how connecting a credit card terminal changes how you manage the payment on the ECR. Another example is that there is type of report called the "Electronic Journal," which is like a compilation of every action (even programming) done on the machine. When you "save & clear" it to an SD card, it does not reset the EJ as the manual says. It only resets if you do it on the machine through the "Z" menu. The EJ file (.SDA ?) can be read by Excel (the manual did not say this), although an occasional character shows up as a weird symbol. It is also strange that you cannot reset the daily/monthly transaction reports after you save to the SD card. You can only do that with the Z function, and that will use up paper.

I needed a register that would last me and pull reports and things required by ome trade show officials and this did all of that and more. You really can''t beat this register unless you want to spend thousands. I of course had no desire to do so, this is strictly a traveling register for our shows and I couldn''t be more pleased!

Epson Stylus R320 Photo Inkjet Printer

Epson Stylus R320 Photo Inkjet Printer

  • Accepts wide range of digital-camera memory cards
  • Supports inkjet-printable CD and DVD media

I bought this printer based on reviews and some blind faith.

My wife wanted a printer to print occasional text and some photos. I was under the assumtion that you either want to print photos period or text period and if you want to print text then you''re better off with a laser printer and if you want to print photos then get a good dedicated photo printer.

My wifes camera is a small digital. She''s been printing pictures from her mothers printer which are painfully pixelated. I didn''t want to get something that poor, I insisted on something somewhat better. I thought I''d have to spend $500+ which you can, but she insisted she didn''t want something that expensive for scrapbooking. I saw this for $200 and bit my lip. The printers I use at work cost thousands. I thought this would be painfully slow, cheap, marginal quality.

This printer prints amazingly well. It''s considered on the high end for a photo printing ink jet. The 8 colors would be better but I''ve found the quality is as good as a 1-hour lab. That''s a lot or a little depending on your expectations. But for $200 I think it''s a very good deal.

If you want to print simple text, for reference and not graphics it prints pretty well and faster than I thought.

It seems substantial and well constructed. It has features I didn''t realize they put into $200 printers.

This model, the 320 has a little flip up screen for viewing your images if you want to print directly from a memor card. the 300 doesn''t and this was $20 more. My wife likes that option. I prefer retouching and printing from the computer.

I knew that I wanted separate ink cartridges for each color. This printer uses 6 colors and 6 separate ink cartridges. Some printer using 6 colors use only 2 cartidges with 3 colors each. The trouble with that is if you run out of 1 color and the others are half full, you''d be wasting money having to replace 3 colors when there''s still ink left in the others.

You can even print wireless if your printer supports Bluetooth technology. $69 will get you the adapter for the printer.

If you''re planning to print postscript files from a postscript drawing program then you need a postscript compatible laser printer or perhaps you could use this type of printer with a postscript emulation software. I haven''t looked into that yet. Don''t even ask anyone at Circuit City or similar retail outlets since they don''t know what "postscript" means.

Overall I am very very happy with this printer.

I was initially going to give four stars because I hate to give five but I honestly can''t find anything wrong with this printer. It does just what it claims to do, and does it well. Being able to print directly to printable CD-R or DVD-R media is a novel plus, and fun to do. The quality is great on photo papers (Epson paper is best), CDs, and plain paper. The printer operates very quietly. It''s a great printer for the price. The six color ink system and Epson''s inks yeild very high quality photo prints. Highly recommended.

UPDATE 12/14/2009: I still have this printer after five years, and it is still my primary. It continues to work marvelously and prints photos with lab-like results. It is likely that this specific model is no longer available, probably superceded by a new one but if you are shopping for a printer, and considering an Epson... they are top quality!

I''ve owned a long line of HP DeskJet (ink jet) printers. The R320 is my first EPSON, so what induced me to switch?

1. Direct printing of labels onto CD/DVDs -only EPSON (of the mainline brands) offers this feature. The disks have to be special printable disks (appear to be readily available) with a matt white finish on the top surface. When archiving photos onto a CD, I use one of the pictures to remind users of the included content in addition to the printed description. My Dad really likes this because he can tell at a glance what''s on the CD. My daughter uses it to include cover art on music compilation CDs. EPSON''s CD/DVD label printing system combines an easy label maker software program on your computer and an included carrying tray that lets the printer handle the printable disk like an envelope tray on many other printers. Very slick and useful addition.

2. Durabrite ink -EPSON''s ink system resists water spotting and looks more like a photograph from traditional film processing.

3. Borderless 4"x6" photo printing -using EPSON''s photo paper, the resulting snapshot photos are indistinguishable from traditionally processing film. (I''ve also tried KODAK paper with equally good results.)

4. Individual ink cartridges -when one color runs out, you don''t have to replace a cartridge still half full of other colors. In practice you do need to keep a full set of spares on hand (six different cartridges), but the cost of ink seems reasonable compared to my experience with HP.

5. The R320 allows printing directly from a camera, external hard drive or various memory cards through the included card slots and viewer window. I have not fully used this feature, but it could be handy at a party or function where you want to provide instant gratification. My routine is to archive and sort on my computer, but the option is nice. The card slots are great since most computers (like my laptop) do not yet have card readers.

All in all the EPSON R320 is a great match for digital photography and CD/DVD production of any kind. I also looked at multifunction printer/scanner units but decided that best of breed of individual printers and scanners was still worth the extra space requirements. Even EPSON''s multifunctions didn''t offer the CD/DVD label printing option directly on the disk, and this was the key feature that decided in favor of the EPSON R320. It was the right choice. It is a very good printer with excellent print quality. (I would expect the same to apply to whatever printer follows the R320 in the EPSON line.)

Want Epson Stylus R320 Photo Inkjet Printer Discount?

I have owned the Epson R300 and the R320. I have printed large volumes with both of them over the past few years ranging from basic home office docs to photographs. They are very well made, and worth every penny.

For those who complain about all of the ink usage and clogging: It is a PHOTOGRAPHIC printer. It uses very very tiny micro head technology and lays down a lot of ink to give that beautiful flawless photographic finish. And yes, the heads clog ESPECIALLY if you don''t use the printer often. Keep this in mind when changing cartridges...you want to do it quickly so that the heads are exposed to air as briefly as possible.

Clogged Print Heads: (always run a nozzle check before starting a print job, especially if it''s been a while since you''ve printed. It saves a lot of ink/paper and frustration).

Here are my tried and true methods of cleaning the print heads. If it''s really bad (even after running the cleaning cycle), then turn it off then on, and pull the plug when the head moves over. Now you can slide it freely. Move it out of the way and lay a double layer of paper towel under the spot where the head sits when you change the ink cartridges. Move the head back over the paper towel into the ink changing station. Open the lid and remove the ink cartridges and look inside. The little prongs are what need careful cleaning. Heat up a little glass cleaner in the micro, and spray it gently and slowly over each head with a syringe.

Each cleaning cycle uses the INK to clean the heads. This does 2 things:

-it uses a lot of expensive ink

-it flows down into the waste ink pads, which will eventually give you an error message.

There are fixes for both of these problems:

I have been using a CIS (Continuous Ink System) from a company called InkJetFly (.com) for over a year. The setup was about $50, and is easy to install. The refill cartridges cost $5 each and hold FIVE times what a normal ink cartridge holds. INCREDIBLE photographic results with no clogging. I love it!

The waste ink pads are also an easy fix. Check out Ebay for a waste ink container for your model. They are a cheap and easy to install. There is a trap door on the back of your printer, and the waste ink pad is right inside (white when new, black when you''ve done a lot of printing/cleaning). The tube that dumps the ink is right under it. You just hook an extension tube up to the waste ink tube and it dumps it into a bottle. Done.

Last but not least: If you get a General Error, then another ink pad might be full. Look inside your printer lid. See the foam track that runs under the print head? On the FAR LEFT there is a little square of foam that gets soaked with ink when the head moves over it at the end of every printed row. Take it out gently and rinse and dry it thorougly. Put it back in and turn the printer off. Now press the stop, maintenance and Power buttons all at once until a message pops up that the error is cleared. IF THE INK PAD IS STILL WET, the error WON''T clear!

Hope this helps. I have learned all of these ''tricks'' from trial and error, and it has saved me a lot of money and frustration.

I bought the Epson Photo R320 mostly because I need to print onto CDs for my business. It does a great job of that, although a bit slow at 2.5 minutes per CD. I only printed one photo so far. It is absolutely spectacular at printing photos with it''s Print Image Matching technology.

But, one issue with any Epson is the ink cost. It goes through ink fast. I heard other people saying things like the ink cartridges are so expensive, it is like buying a new printer every time they need ink. Here is a tip, I found a lot of continuous ink feed systems available for Epson printers on the web that will allow you to print over 1000 4x6 prints for very little. I found some nice kits on eBay for around $80, with refill ink prices of $40 per set to refill their large tanks. There is also a lot of people selling sponge-free refillable ink tanks, which is what I bought. So, ink prices are no longer an issue to keep anyone away from Epson printers.

I now printed 300 CDs and am still using the ink cartridges that came with the printer. Some irritating things that I noticed so far: Loading the CDs has some software errors sometimes. When you load the CD, the machine pushes the CD carrier out by about a 0.25 inch. This action sometimes throws the machine for a loop and sends the carrier right out the back of the machine. No harm, but irritating to have to reload it sometimes and have the carrier hit the wall unexpectedly. Another issue is that the CD carrier sometimes has issues loading and requires a slight push to get it through some rollers. The issues don''t happen very often, and it still prints the CDs with perfection each time so far.

Now, searching the Internet yeilded some interesting information. I heard the unit has an waste ink reservior monitor that disables the printer with a service lock in about a year of service. Epson does this to make you return the unit for a service replacement waste sponge. Excessive ink can cause a fire when if hits the power supply. It costs over $100 to repair. You can disable the use of the sponge by configuring an external collection bottle. There is information on the Internet on how to clear the service lock, and how to connect the external collection bottle.

Wafer Paper 8"x11" Set of 100

Wafer Paper 8''x11'' Set of 100I just bought this paper, and printed on it with my Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-in-One Printer (5291B019) (using edible ink). Images print very clean and sharp on this paper. Be sure to check which side you''re printing on for best results. One side has lots of ''pores'', and the other side is smooth. If you print on the ''pores'' side, your image will look textured as such. Printing on the smooth side makes for great edible photos.

I used to use frosting sheets that cost $3.00 each until I tried this wafer paper. I loved it so much, I''ll never go back. Not only is this so much cheaper, it prints clearer and doesn''t bleed like the frosting sheets seometimes do.

These wafer sheets were thicker than I thought they would be, but they worked wonderfully when making torrone (Italian nougat candy). I have made torrone for several years, and these wafer sheets make it so easy. It helps the candy hold it''s shape after cutting, and prevents the candy from sticking to everything. Without the wafer sheets, it sticks to everything: itself, any dish you put it on, wax paper, it even sticks to oiled tin foil. I would recommend these sheets to any candy maker who makes nougat-type candies.

Want Wafer Paper 8"x11" Set of 100 Discount?

I bought the wafer paper together with the kopkykake inkts and the Canon IP3600 as suggested on the amazon.com. I have tried everyting but the printer does not want to work the paper. Neither form the cassette , nor from the rear paper input. I assume it should work because the items were recommended together. Can anyone assist me with this. At this moment I am extremely dissapointed.
