I''ve had this printer for over 5 years and am continually disappointed by the photo quality. At first it printed ok, but then a scratch appeared in every single photo in the same spot. The pictures I first printed out now look discolored and cheap.

Having read all the reviews on the Z22, I felt the need to add a few positive comments: My operating system is Windows ME and there was NO problem whatsoever in installing the Z22 (I also have a scanner hooked in between: the scanner, NOT the Z22 gives me an occasional problem). This light-weight printer is small enough to fit anywhere (I was pressed for space!), has never had a paper jam (bought it in Sept.2000) and prints clear and concise -both in color and in black & white on just about any paper. One reviewer comments that it is hard to get replacement cartridges: NOT SO! If you don''t want to wait for someone to ship... In addition, I have purchased a "Universal Inkjet Refill Kit" and it works like a charm! Have refilled my black cartridge about 5 times by now and the color one about 2 times. The Refill Kits are a great alternative and that way, you alwayshave ink handy if you run out of ink at 3 o''clock in the morning... I''d recommend this printer to anyone who needs a basic reliable printer for general every day use and who isn''t into any specialty printing, even though the Z22 does a good job on photos etc. as well.

I''ve had this running for just a couple of weeks, but so far I''m extremely pleased with the deal I got. Installation was absolutely brainless, and the printer is half the size of my old one--it hardly takes up any desk space at all. Printing is fairly quiet, and monochrome printing is as fast as I could possibly ever need. The color-coded ink cartridges are a nice touch--it''s impossible to get them mixed up. I''ve used several different kinds of paper and have yet to have a single paper jam. The colors look good, and dry surprisingly quickly, but the cartridge is small enough that I''m already on my second color cartridge after printing 35 brochures; in the long run, folks who use a lot of color printing on a regular basis may find that it''s cheaper to spend a few more dollars on the printer in order to use a larger, more efficient ink cartridge. Color printing is also on the slow side--mine was averaging just 2 pages per minute. In general, I''m extremely pleased with the printer and have recommended it to a few folks. For standard home printing, it''s a great deal.

When I received my Lexmark Z22 I installed and uninstalled the software several times before giving up and calling technical support. They had me do several tasks to try to determine the problem and said that it was a defective ink cartridge and they will send me a new cartridge. Upon receipt of the new cartridge, I installed it into the printer and it still didn''t work.I again called technical support who determined that the printer itself was defective.They said they would send me a new one and to my surprise, they upgraded me to a Z32 WHICH I LOVE!!! So I guess after all of the frustration I suffered and believe you me, I suffered, it was worth the wait for my Z32 and my hats off to Lexmark for customer satisfaction.

Overall, I like the printer. It set up easily, prints quickly in black and white, and not all that bad in color. I haven''t had it long enough to need new ink cartridges yet, but I think I will definately look into a do-it-yourself-refill-kit. I''ve looked around online, and the cheapest cartridge I have found is just over $26.00. The best feature so far is it lacks the CLICK_CLICK_CLANK_GRRRRR_CLICK_CLICK_CLICK of it''s HP predecessor. I would recommend purchasing this printer.

I bought this printer about a year ago, with full enthusiasm about all the printing I''ll do. But that turned out to be just a dream, since this thing prints pages at a snail''s pace. The 6.5ppm figure for black pages is a joke, if you are not printing in the draft mode, and if your page has more than 20 lines of text (forget about graphics).

Next thing to talk about is cartridges. First thing that shocked me was that the printer did not come with any black cartridge!!! I had to buy a new black cartridge ... immediately after buying this [money] printer! :-( ... Further, the cartridge didn''t last long. This is not to mention the trouble I had finding the cartridge in the first place. The cartridges 17G0050 and 17G0060 are NOT available in most local stores..

And after all that pain, my printer suddenly stopped working (both lights flashing) after about 1 year. The manual says both lights flashing means "cartridge trolley stalled", but doesn''t say what to do next. Lexmark Support didn''t help me either (that''s another sad story!).

Overall, don''t waste money on this. Buy something slightly more expensive, buy good quality. Go for HP or Canon.

I''ve been using Epson Stylus Color printers for awhile, originally the Stylus 740, and recently the 777i printer. Each has been impressive in the print quality, especially photos. I decided to make the leap and upgrade to the Stylus C80 printer, in part due to the $30 rebate offered.

Setup was very easy as is with most Epson printers. I use it with a USB cable to my Apple iBook computer and had no trouble with installing and using the printer drivers. As a matter of fact, these drivers are nearly identical to the ones used for the Stylus 777i. I have also used the Printer Sharing function built into the driver and now print wirelessly from my iBook to this printer COOL!!!

The print quality is excellent and speeds are noticeably faster than my 777i printer. The best improvement was the reduced noise during printing, it is much more quiet! I did notice that there is a considerable difference in photo print appearance between the C80 and the 740/777i depending on the type of paper used.

Previously, I have used the Epson 4x6 photo paper with very good resultson the C80 however, the prints appears somewhat washed out and dull. Using Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper produces much better results as does Kodak Premium Picture Paper (for less $$$ than Epson). I was also perplexed at the limited paper sizes supported by the drivers, 4x6 print is missing and must be user defined. Mac OS X drivers are due out on Oct. 22 so I am looking forward to testing those as well.

I recommend this printer for fast, quiet photo quality printing for a budget price.

Just had this printer a couple weeks now, and finally completed making it so that it prints from my home PC via Parallel, and Laptop via USB.

Prints are great! So far I have only had the opportunity to burn up some Coated 8.5 x 11 sheets on pictures and some graphics, plus a plain paper envelope or two. No problem as long as the driver installed properly.

I was debating and debating between the C80 and the 785EPX for quite some time, and as an avid digital photo geek, it was a tough choice archival with individual durable inks or the 785EPX with the edge to edge, card support, 2 extra colors, and 4x6 rolls. Well I still feel that the extra two colors are unnecessary just a way to sell more ink (the money''s in the blades son). And I have no issue viewing my pictures on the computer prior to wasting more of that precious commodity. So I went for the C80, and I''m delighted with my decision. Who needs two extra colors and wet edges. For really special prints I go to shutterfly.com anyway.

So here''s my driver advice:

My W98 (1''st edition) home PC installed without issue, and printed from the Parallel port without complaint.

On the other side, I was attempting to attach my work W2k laptop to the USB, and ran into difficulty. I believe the issue is that I needed to install "USB printer support" from my system prior to it allowing the Epson printer drivers. This issue was not listed in the instructions neither the "read me first" nor the full documentation. It only needs to be done once, which explains why some see it and others do not. When it asks you to cancel the HW detection, don''t cancel out of the "USB Printer Support" Hardware detection. Let it install the built-in Windows drivers for USB printers, then it goes on to install the actual printer which you do from the CD (or downloaded drivers).

Other than that... One theory I have for so many drivers issues with the other users is that it is a good idea to uninstall any pervious Local Printers on the system. These programs tend to run in the background and "lock in" your LPT settings like that little ink monitor and other icons that like to display in your sys-tray (on the bottom right of your screen). HP and Epson both seem to have these background programs. So if you had a HP previously, and didn''t uninstall first, then it could still be hanging on to your port settings. My previous model was a Canon BJC4300 which died when I had amassed over a hundred bucks on ink always had to have some on hand, because it gave you no warning when it was going to start printing funny stripy pictures. But then again, it had no little TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident don''t you wish that your boss would say that to you?) program to foul up the Epson installation.

I''ve seen this type of driver issue repeatedly one of my past lives involved troubleshooting people''s computers. There once was a "Winnie the Pooh" doll that attached to the parallel printer so the kiddies could program it to read them stories. Well this one customer could only get Pooh to speak in tongues that sounded kind of like a modem you should have seen what a sight it was to see Winnie moving his lips to the sound of "EEEEkakakaka". Anyway the issue was the LPT Port was "captured" by the Epson printer driver. The customer had deleted all the Epson printer files already so it was too late to uninstall. We had to re-install the Epson Driver from the printer which was now returned back to the store and then uninstall that driver.

Nice printer other than that. It''s not a quiet as an HP, but it shouldn''t jam up as much either. Sounds very "professional". Plus the "smoothness" of the 3 picoliter drops is better than HP. After maybe 8 pages of full color photo''s the ink is still way over 90% much better than the Canon would have been at this point.

This is by far the best inkjet I have ever used…

Unlike another reviewer, I had no problems whatsoever getting this printer installed and working. I can''t imagine the install being much easier. The drivers work very well with Windows 98 as they do with Win2k, Winxp and NT4.

The print speeds are incredible! I can''t believe it prints this fast while maintaining such a high quality output. The print speed has also improved a lot with mixed text/graphic pages. It seems to recognize that the text portion doesn''t need the same speed of the images and prints them much faster.

I like the separate ink cartridges, as you can replace each color independently. Canon has had this feature for the longest time, and I am glad to see Epson finally adding it. Time will tell if this makes it much cheaper than before.

The image quality is great! They have improved the plain paper printing quality from the last Epson printer I have used. On photo quality paper, it''s amazing! The picture quality is also much better than you get with latest HP printers, which tend to have grainy images when compared to the C80.

The only thing I don''t like is the styling. The previous printers look much better to me than the C80. And what''s with the naming scheme?

So far, I have enjoyed this incredibly fast printer....

If you''re looking for a generic color printer, the C80 is most likely your best choise, even compared with more expensive printers. It is fast, economical, quiet (except for the paper-feed mechanism) and prints excellent quality text, graphics and images in both B&W and color. I use it with XP, without any problems -true plug and play, without the need of any driver installation.

However, if you''re buying the C80 for photo-quality prints, you''ll probably get disapointed. Before I bought it, I read many user reviews describing the C80''s photo prints as "dull" -this is exactly the case. I tried a number of print options (and the C80 gives you plenty) on photo-quality Epson paper -in all cases, the feeling was that the print came out OK, but didn''t have the sharpness I was expecting ("dull colors" is the right word). Another disadvantage, is the print sizes: does not have the "bordlerless photo" capability, and needs some trial-error based adjustments in the print options to print even standard photo sizes (4x6, 3x5 etc).

Very reluctantly, because it''s a great printer, I decided to return for a true Photo Printer.

First I will start by saying that I have been a fanatic supporter of Epson printers; I have owned (own) three of them. I have also owned HP''s, and like I said, am an Epson fan.

At first I was blown away by the clarity and brightness. But..

We (Epson support) couldn''t configure the printer for USB.

Then I noticed the printer was literally drinking ink...I mean lots of ink on the lowest black resolution only.

As far as speed, yeah, it cranks out the pages, but only after taking extended periods of time. On average, I have about a 25-30 second delay before the printer will begin to print (very annoying). Once it gets going, it kicks butt.

Now, back to my biggest gripe...

I have owned this printer since November 2001. It is now January 2002. I have blasted 5 black cartridges and 2 each of the remaining colors.

By comparison, with my Stylus 740, I used to go thru 1 black cartridge every month, sometimes it would last 2, and the color about every 2-3 months.

I have also found the ink incompatible with quality, high-gloss stock from Red River. Personally, I am now looking elsewhere.

Dunno what went wrong, but I don''t feel like spending [that much] in ink per year.

If any graphic design artists need to print in CMYK and wide format, this is probably the best printer you can get in terms of cost and quality. The 88 ink is super cheap and it pumps out a LOT of pages. If you plan on doing a lot of printing but don''t wanna pay as much as a laser jet printer, you should use a printer that uses the 88 ink. For 20.99 this cartridge can give you 1200 pages. What other cartridge on the market can do that for so cheap??? What''s even better is how 34 bucks you can get the XL and the XL can do 2400 pages. Again, what cartridge do you know of can give you 2400 pages for 34 bucks? It''s a great printer at a great price when you can find it on sale.

I gave this a low rating, not because it is a poor printer, but because it can''t do everything I expected it to from it''s description and specifications without a lot of messing around. And maybe not even then. Not as near as good as the older HP 1220 that it is to replace.

I use it to print model aircraft plans and the included instruction booklets. I develop the plans in both raster graphic and CAD programs. Some pages are up to 24 inches long. The vast majority fit on 11 by 17 inch paper.

This printer is great for printing the photos and instructions I include, and was hoping I could do everything with this one that I could do with my old 1220.

However, under some conditions, this printer seems to want to ignore the margins assigned to the printout, and create either wider or narrower ones on its own. After three weeks of daily printing with this printer, I have yet to figure out how to get around this.

The margins are important for these plans, as the drawings MUST be reproduced full size, with no enlarging or shrinking of the images so that the parts constructed from them fit together.

I have noticed that it will print full size, IF a paper is used that is significantly larger than the drawing. For example, a 10 by 16 inch drawing will be enlarged somewhat (about 1/16 of an inch)if I try to print it on 11 by 17 inch paper, but prints exactly right by just changing to 13 by 19 inch paper. The problem is that the 13 by 19 inch paper is much more expensive, and I have to trim off a lot of it to fit the folders. It also doesn''t look very professional to have wide, blank margins.

One more example is when printing a drawing that used to fit on legal paper (8.5 by 14) I now have to print on 11 by 17 for it to print full size without being enlarged! Adjusting the margins on HPs printer setup, and/or the programs'' print setup, does not help, but usually makes it worse. Selecting the "Print At Actual Size" option does not help.

Also, in booklet mode, it wants to print much smaller than the 1220 printer did and the word processor defines. The old 1220 would print the actual size as defined in the Wordperfect program. But the K8600 increases the margins and shrinks the print about 20% making some of the print almost unreadable. It does format the pages correctly though.

However, in duplex mode, or single page print of the same text, it prints normally on the same paper! It''s just when trying to print text in booklet mode that it shrinks the page. Or when trying to print full size drawings as I used to with the 1220.

Unlike the 1220 (which could print up to an unadvertised 50 inches long) the K8600 won''t print anything longer than 19 inches. So, for a few of my drawings, I will still have to use the 1220 until I redraw them to fit on 19 inch paper, if I can. And use the 1220 to print the booklets until (or if) I ever figure out how to prevent the shrinking of images despite the settings.

So, for the time being, I am still using the 1220 for many drawings and the booklets.

But, the duplexer is great! No more turning the paper over to complete the booklet print or print on both sides of a sheet...it does it automatically! I can just walk away and come back when it is completely finished.

In favor of the K8600, the ink cartridges are MUCH cheaper, and with 4 of them , I don''t have to toss out an entire cartridge when just one color is out, as I did with the 1220. The print is super fast, and very high quality, even in draft mode...and the photos and drawings are superb...when they are the correct size.

I have had a HP Deskjet 1220c for about 4 years and never had a problem, except for having to clean the platinum and guides a few months ago.. very reliable, fast, and excellent, photo quality prints with permanent Vivera inks. The only problem with it was it used a lot of expensive ink because of the single, 3 color cartridge plus singe black. The Office Jet K8600 has separate Vivera cyan, yellow and magenta cartridges plus a black cartridge and they are available in the very large 88-"XL" size (up to 1700 color pages for about $25 and 2400 black pages for about $35). You only replace the cartridge color that runs out first and they are cheaper because the replaceable print heads are separate as well (they should last a life time using HP inks). The 8600 is compact, quiet, fast, and I''ve had no jams so far using a variety of paper types. It will print on heavy 76 pound paper in the front tray or rear slot. Comparing it to my old 1220, here are the things I don''t like, in order of dislike: There is no separate single sheet front slot, so if you want to print a few 11x17 tabloid drawings and the input tray is loaded with letter paper, you have to remove the letter paper, put the tabloid paper in the tray and adjust the guides, then reload the letter paper when you are through. The design of the out put tray clicks into a angled up position with a bit of force, but is still a bit in the way of loading paper easily in the input tray below it, but you soon get used to it and it becomes easier. The specs say would suggest that manual duplex is possible, but it isn''t in the printer software like on the Deskjet series, so doing duplex is complicated and error prone unless your external software includes the ability. I ended up getting the optional duplex unit and it''s well worth it, so I would suggest getting the K8600dn with includes it for not too much more. This unit doesn''t have PhotoRet like the 1220 and Photojet printers do, so color matching to your screen is not quite as good, you may have to experiment a bit with the printers color adjustments to get the desired results on different papers and then saving it into one of their user savable presets. Once you do that, the color photo prints on HP photo paper are excellent.. they look like commercial prints and are as good as my Deskjet could do. I had some initial tech questions/problems and I had very good service. After a bit of wasted time talking to their techs in India, I was called by their USA follow up and they worked my problem out. All in all an excellent printer with low ink costs and fast printing. I print all text on draft setting, HP Bright White paper and they only take a few seconds each and look almost as good as the regular setting. For graphics, the normal setting is excellent and very fast. Even photo prints at normal on HP glossy brochure paper are very fast and near photo quality.

The last printer I purchased for this one was an HP Deskjet 6980. I decided not to buy HP again, after numerous network connection issues. But this time I was in the market for a cheaper larger paper size printer. There is not much out there, so I ended up buying this K9600 Office Jet Pro. I only intended to use it sporadically.

It started off with the inability to print any other color than magenta. After spending hours with customer support and buying new ink cartridges even though the ones that came with it indicated full, "Well Sir, the cartridges come with very little ink and it is probably all used during set-up", finally it was concluded that one of the print heads must be bad. I received a new printhead a week later, and indeed the issue I had was resolved. Using it over the first weeks after however was a stackup of annoyances. But now, when printing paper that is a little bit thicker than normal paper (such as HP photo paper, not even the thickest kind), the image gets either smudged at the bottom of the paper or the whole image prints half an inch closer to the top that it is supposed to. a day later it keeps telling me that it ran out of paper. Tried all sort of paper and adjustments, turned off the paper width sensor. I cannot believe how much time I wasted just trying to print something.. If my office windows could open, it would have landed on the parking lot below it...

I have had very poor success with HP products on my Mac Tiger operating system and should have known better than to order the new K8600 wide format printer. It connected okay and said the software loaded okay. The printer performed test functions as it should but that is were things went bad. When trying to print from the computer it would signal that there was no paper. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it and it printed a page from the computer beautifully. Next time I tried I had the no paper signal again. Once again I tried reloading the software. This proceeded to trash my ability to download anything. I finally had to erase my hard drive and rebuild my computer operating system to get my computer back on line. This was on a Mac-mini 1.42 GHz with 1 GB of memory and plenty of hard drive and memory space. I tried the printer on my iBook to be sure it wasn''t my computer and got the same no paper signal. I quit right there before I trashed my iBook. I suspect an HP software problem. I have returned the K8600 through Amazon''s excellent no hassle return policy and am waiting the arrival of an Epson Stylus 1400 wide format, also from Amazon. The Epson products seem to be very compatible with Mac''s OS 10 system.

Also of note is that all HP Customer Service has been sent overseas to India, Thailand, or who knows where. The tech people actually speak English fairly well but do not understand it that well. If your problem is anything outside of routine it is very likely that you will get transferred from department to department and end up having your time wasted and no resolution to your problem. HP now has a red circle around it with a line through it as far as I am concerned.

This printer absolutely WILL print labels for UPS, Post Office, and FedEx. I have printed dozens of shipping labels for those carriers, and they come out perfectly and with high resolution. I print from my fedex.com and ups.com accounts, and US Postal shipping labels from the Endicia application on my computer. Here''s how:

1. I use the Brother 4" x 100ft Continuous Length Paper roll (DK2243), so the printer will automatically cut off the label exactly where the image ends (this also allows me to add additions like "FRAGILE" or "RMA #" below the carrier''s label image).

2. When the label is ready to print (from FedEx, UPS or Endicia), instead of sending it to the printer I save it as a pdf file, and then open the pdf in Adobe Reader (or Acrobat) [note: rotate the image sideways and enlarge to full screen for best results].

3. In the printer''s P-Touch Editor application, I select "Insert > Picture > Screen Capture...", which takes me back to Adobe Reader, and lets me select an area of the label image to capture.

4. The captured image then appears in the P-Touch app; I select print and it prints out the label.

Granted it takes an extra step, but it has the advantages of a) letting you save the label (pdf file) in case of mis-print you can easily print another, and FOR MAC USERS: b) it lets you print labels from UPS and FedEx on a Mac neither ups.com or fedex.com currently support direct printing on a Mac.

I also print all sorts of other labels, and the continuous roll lets me print the exact size I want, with no waste. The P-Touch Editior has a fairly versatile drawing program, so you can design labels with custom graphics/fonts, and imported images, for many uses.

This printer is built like a tank very high-quality construction. Nothing at all like the light flimsy Dymo printers.

This product appears to work well, and P-touch editor, which came free with the printer, is an easily accessible and understandable program used in conjunction with the printer. The issue I have, however, is that it requires proprietary labels made by Brother, and will not accept any other labels. This in particular was an issue for me, as the company I work for requires pre-printed labels (in color). Brother does not pre-print labels, and this is not a color label printer. For the price, it seems to be an excellent machine, and so long as you do not need pre-printed labels or, of course, color, and don''t mind purchasing labels solely from Brother, than this printer (which is the cheapest label printer I could find that was capable of printing on 4" wide labels) will likely be all you need.

The label printer has been a wonderful time saver. We have 2 and they are connected to our computer system and we can print labels with the click of our mouse! The only issue that I have found is in coordination with our program, long names are cut off of the label. Other than that, I am completely pleased. Our small business has saved time and heart-ache no longer dealing with envelope printers.

This is an excellent all-around printer for those who aren''t too demanding in their choice of quality printers. It''s perfect for the average family person who just needs the convenience and ease of printing what was shot with the digital camera over the weekend. Don''t get me wrong the output of the final results are quite impressive (especially now that it''s under $60), but for those who have a more demanding eye for perfection and need more ''professional'' results, this may not be the printer for you. For instance, I was originally going to purchase the new iP6700D which is touted as an ideal printer for the digital SLR user, with higher resolution and number of nozzles compared to the iP6310D. However, if you don''t want the hassle of changing and maintaining 6 individual ink tanks at approximately $14 apiece, this iP6310D is probably the route you want to take, as it only has two inkjet tanks (approx $25 apiece) to worry about, yet has the 6 colors (3 grouped in each tank) like some of the more costly models.

Overall, I''m really satisfied with this printer, especially for the price, and the quality of the printed product. My only tip is, use the "Vivid Photo" option under printer settings to get more vibrant color.

The photo''s it''s printed for me look fine to my non-professional eyes. So far, I''m very happy with this printer as opposed to the utter frustration I experienced very quickly with my prior HP all-in-one. I had received the HP for free when I''d purchased my Macbook, and I had nothing but problems. However, this Canon has so far not given me a single problem, and the cost of replacement cartridges seems very reasonable. I recommend this printer for anybody needing a simple photo printer for low volume use.

So far I am pleased with this product. It arrived undamaged and much faster than I had anticipated. For an inkjet printer the quality is really good, though somewhat slow. It is easy to use and install. I have had some trouble with printing as the paper in the tray was not feeding properly. After working with it for a while I finally got it to work. I have not used it to print photos yet, but so far I am pleased.

I needed a new printer ASAP after my old one just stopped working. Wonder of wonders, Amazon had a special on the Canon PIXMA iP6310D that day. The reviews were good, the price was better.

I have now had this printer as my main printer for several months, and the things I like about it are:

-Very clear page prints

-Ease of use (loading, tray, set-up, etc)

-Size and design

The things I don''t:

-Fairly noisy

-Takes a while to print a page, noisily wheezing back and forth, even before starting to print a page

-Photos come out with definite pixel lines

Short story? Great for home office use, printing pages, etc. If you need something that will print good pictures, keep looking.

Edit: Printer now is jamming every time I try to print. I have tried contacting Canon Tech Support after following all the online help areas, but have yet to receive a response after several emails over the past couple of weeks. Really disappointed.

I can''t tell the differance in the pictures my epson C84 printed to what this one prints. however this printer is much faster. another thing, it only has 2 ink cartrages. if you are looking for a good photo printer get one that has 4 or more cartrages.

My job as a notary signing agent requires that I do a high volume of printing on a daily basis. It''s not uncommon that I''ll have to print more than 250 pages for just one closing assignment. And I have to be able to do that several times a day. The quality of the printing has to be perfect -page after page. And I need a dual tray printer, since the loan documents need to be printed on both letter and legal size paper, depending on the type of document it is.

The HP 1320t, with 2 trays, is everything that I need. It is a durable printer, which is what I need for the amount of printing I do. It automatically switches between letter and legal size flawlessly.

Most of the printing jobs that I receive come in the form of email attachments. Sometimes the jobs are difficult because the text has been scanned as graphics, which requires a lot of printer memory. I added an additional 128MB, for a total of 144MB. That made a world of difference. And I need to be able to use many different printer utilities. Not all of the documents come in Word or PDF format. The printer can handle any job, and any print utility, with no problems.

It was very easy to set up, and it''s easy to maintain. For all of its features and capabilities, it takes up surprisingly very little desk space. I can''t say enough good things about this printer except, if I ever need to buy a new printer, this will no doubt be the model I buy.

I bought this printer at a Walmart on Black Friday and have had problems with it ever since. Most of the time, I can''t get it to print I get an error message that the printer is not connected. If I get over that hurdle, then I have problems getting the printer to recognize that there is paper available it keeps telling me I am out of paper. If you need to make plain copies of anything black and white, this is a decent printer. It is small, light weight and relatively easy to use. The scan quality is decent. I print from my iphone often. Do not waste your ink, paper or time by printing photos on glossy photo paper with this printer. It is HORRIBLE for that. We have had the printer for a few months now and that is the only problem I really have. It is a pretty loud printer. It has awakened our daughter more than once and she is 3 closed bedroom doors away. Hope this helps.

I got this as a printer for my college dorm, and it''s nice and small, folds up nicely, has decent print quality. Having a scan option readily available is a new thing for me, quite handy.

However, my major issue is that the printer, when left plugged in, will consistently cause my computer to blue screen (cause it to crash). I''ll still use it, it works, it prints color, it scans but ever since I installed the software and started using it, my computer has crashed more times than I can keep count. Also, another guy down the hall mentioned he has the same printer and it also makes his computer crash. I don''t know how widespread the issue is, but it''s a pain.

Well, I wish I had just read the review about this not being for photo printing because it isn''t, not like my old HP 1210v printer. The highest setting it has for photo paper that I could find was 600x300 DPI, although its advertised at colour resolution of 4800x1200. It does NOT have the HP Photo Ret technology that allows printing of photos without increasing the resolution. It does print photos and they look "okay" but not for anything serious. The wireless feature is a plus for those without all the USB ports available and its nice to sit it across the room and not have cabling. Those cables supplied with the printer are very short which means that using the supplied USB cable essentially means that the printer has to sit right next to the PC or laptop area.

The construction is very cheap especially the front paper shelf.

Be careful of the installation package because it has user statistics enabled which you have to disable by clicking on the blue text at setup. Failure to disable the user statistics will send data back to HP. I didn''t like the setup of the wireless portion where it "attempts to discover network and password." How is it doing this? I set up everything manually.

Its an okay printer for text documents and photos for reports or papers but not for family album photos.

This paper is expensive. Moreover, it drinks ink in comparison to HP advanced photo paper. On the other hand, it is thick and its finish is truly that of "art" paper. In other words, a photo printed on this paper will look like a painting rather than a photo. Therefore should be very careful which photo''s you choose to print-not just

because of the expense, but because some just do not look as good on this textured

paper vs. "photo" paper (glossy or satin). If you choose the "correct" photo, the

(#1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER) Epson''s Artisan''s 725 turned out to be slightly less than what its name implies (all-in-one) and surprisingly more. It is less than what we normally call ''all-in-one'' because a FAX send/receive capability is absent. I would say that it''s ''more'' because, for reasons known only to Epson, it is not advertised as also a ''photo printer'' which it is and quite a good, feature-rich one at that.

Its small paper tray(s) and the absence of a scan/copier feeder make the Artisan a HOME printer. For anyone who doesn''t absolutely need a FAX in a printer and who appreciates its ''photo'' capabilities this Artisan can be the almost ideal printing device.

INSTALLATION

I experienced near-zero issues while setting up the printer. The ''quick start'' instructions were clear and, soon after the packaging materials were removed the printer was ready for use.

Once the printer is unpacked, the 6 ink cartridges are loaded and the tray is filled with paper all done in a matter of minutes the printer practically configured itself once we turned it on and told it that we spoke English. It quickly detected our Wi-Fi network and it configured itself to use it. Once it checked its print heads and made sure that they were clean and well aligned the first test page came out.

On the PC side we installed the drivers without any issues and loaded additional apps such as Easy PhotoPrint, Epson Scan and the user''s manual. The only one that acted up was Epson Scan which was unable to detect the printer a couple of times but whatever problem it had in the beginning it seems to have been temporary because Scan works okay now.

FEATURES

Once the printer is on, the front Control Panel provides full access to printer''s features. Alternatively, most of printer''s services, at least the ones that really matter can be controlled from any PC-based app that can access the installed driver.

The 2-tray claim is technically correct but in practice there is ONE paper tray plus a ''photo tray'' on top of it that can hold up to 20 4x6" or 5x7" photo sheets. The actual paper tray can hold up to 120 letter, 8x10" or A4 sheets or up to 50 legal size sheets as I noted already, this is definitely meant to be a HOME printer.

When it comes to connectivity, the Artisan did a good job at joining a Wi-Fi network. An Ethernet port is also available. Printer can be controlled either through the front panel or from another remote device on which the printer''s driver was installed. The printer''s front has ports for USB and SD memory cards. The USB port can be used not only to save or retrieve data from flash drives but also to charge whichever device would normally charge through a USB cable.

One interesting capability is Artisan''s ability to print on CDs or DVDs. It''s not quick or easy it involves lifting the control panel, having some special CD tray extended and using dedicated Epson CD software but it worked. I was able to create my own, personalized CD label.

Another interesting and useful feature is the printer''s ability to ''make black'' when you just ran out of black ink but color ink is still available. This is something I wish I had on another printer some weekends ago when I HAD to have something printed and my ''other brand'' machine simply refused to work because it was out of black ink.

OPERATION

Printing

Can be initiated form a PC, a mobile device running software such as Epson iPrint or directly from connected flash drives or memory cards. Mac is supported but I wasn''t able to test it myself. The most flexible option is, of course, printing from a PC or a Mac where you have full control over the output quality and any type of document or image can be sent to the printer.

Copying and Scanning

Copying or scanning can be performed one sheet at a time there is no loader and you are limited to letter or A4 size (no legal).

As a copier/scanner, the Artisan can do B&W or color, single or 2-sided, can enlarge/reduce the copy size and adjust output quality. When it comes to photo copying, it''s possible to revive old photos by restoring colors if faded and perform some basic image processing adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, even take care of ''red eye'' with no need for dedicated software running on a PC. I found these capabilities interesting but I am not likely to use them. Both photo paper and ink are expensive and I prefer a device with a keyboard and a mouse when cropping a picture and a software application that allows me more flexibility and gives me the ability to get a hi-res preview of output when preparing an image for printing.

Scans can be output as a JPG or PDF. The printer has the ability to direct the output to a PC on the network and even launch the default email application. Alternatively, the output can be sent to a connected USB flash drive or a memory card.

While scanning can be performed through the printer''s control panel alone, I prefer the Epson Scan software installed of my PC as the better option. It allows me to control the scan''s quality, ranging from ''quick'' to ''professional'' and save the output on the PC.

Other capabilities

From the control panel it''s possible to print ruled paper. The menu offers a pretty good variety and the output is good. However... ink is expensive. As a variation to the ''ruled paper'', it''s possible to create personalized note paper with a scanned image in the background. Also through the control power and with some image in the scanner, you can use the ''coloring book'' option to produce an outline that''s ready for coloring.

MY RATING

The Artisan 725 is definitely a HOME printer. Its small paper tray, lack of a paper loader and of a FAX capability do not qualify it as ''home business'' equipment. However, as a home machine, I could hardly find major faults. It was easy to setup, it works well with my PCs, the output is reasonably quick and of good quality and the photos are nothing short of spectacular my testing involved some high end Canon paper and the highest quality settings and the ink appears to be reasonably priced. The numerous photo printing capabilities available from the control panel are okay but not likely to be used although it does not hurt to have them there. Same about the printer''s ability to print rule paper, it doesn''t hurt to have it and it may prove itself to be a lifesaver some day. The printer''s ability to ''make'' black ink out of colored ink when it ran out of black is as definite plus.

As a home almost-all-in-one AND photo printer, this is a five-star.

I''ve had a love hate affair with printers that has gone on now for 25 years, and none have left me more jaded than inkjets. For decades their promise always falls short of expectations, and issues were often abound. Alas thus far the Artisan 725 seems to be "the one".

There was a while I swore off of all injects, all "all-in-ones", and all printers that promised the world. Frankly I probably wouldn''t have ordered this at my expense (thanks Vine!), but I''m glad I have it to call my own. I''ve only started to unleash the power of this device but for now this is clear:

* CD/DVD printing rocks! Awesome quality, but do know that for best results grab it from the tray before it automatically retracts post printing

* text printing is superb, and it easily matches laser

* color (non photo) printing again matches laser

* photos look great, but I''ve only used this sparingly (1hr 8x10 prints at many labs are cheaper than photo paper alone)

* ink supply seems excellent (you get full sized cartridges, but some is lost to prime the printers)

* wi-fi and network printing works great, but I did have an issue doing a DVD (may be the application, a fluke, or some other variable)

* the on screen menus and controls work well, and you can do a lot without even using a PC

* duplex is handy, but I haven''t tried it yet

No one has given a review for this product yet, I am shocked. This is by far the best and fastest printer that I''ve ever used. Just upgraded from an HP printer and the differences are night and day. One word of advice though, if you want the best prints for your money invest in a color calibrator and use the profile for printing don''t rely on your printer all of the time. I give this product 5 out of 5 stars it does what it says it does, it''s fast and the prints are amazing.

this printer is the best I''ve ever owned----I print art work on card stock and water color paper and the results are incredible. Photos printed on regular plain paper come out exceptionally good. Like the individual ink color cartridges, too. scan produces crisp images---liked my lexmark software better, but the quality of the prints on the epson is so far superior.

Print speed and quality OK, although the colors are relatively washed out on photographs. I have to ramp up to cartoonish contrast in picasa or photoshop LE to get reasonably accurate colors.

Silly ink software: just stopped half way through a monochrome print job saying it wants more cyan.

But..the worst paper feed I have ever seen on a printer. Very fussy, even with brand new top quality paper. Frequently feeds multiple sheets, frequently jams. You can tell this is a major issue because Epson have pages of unhelpful advice on the problem.

Basically like a 2 year old makes some pretty pictures but cannot be left unattended.

HP 640 Inkjet printer is defective. When unable to begin operations based on set-up instructions in manual,

called HP Service number provided. After ultimately finding the appropriate tech service person, he prescribed various diagnostics to get machine operative. All failed. He informed me that it was defective.

HP refused to replace the new machine that was bought. HP said the only remedy was to return the defective new machine to them at customer''s own expense. And that HP would only replace it with a used refurbish machine. Service people were rude and continually placed customer on hold. Poor product, poor service.

This is our first home fax machine. It was easy to put together and the directions were easy to follow to learn how to operate it. We love it. We can fax things easily and we receive things easily. Highly recommend this fax machine, especially for the quality and the price.

While the HP 640 fax works on a dedicated phone line( and yes, it works on a Comcast line), the machine does not work on a shared line in auto mode. When recognizing a voice call, the HP 640 changes the ring tone to notify you of the incoming call. Nice...BUT, after an individual picks up the phone and begins a conversation, the fax machine continues to ring and attempts to connect to a carrier; which of course, is not there. We called HP and while they were responsive, they could not resolve the problem because it is a inherent flaw of the machine. The machine also does not work on a shared line with an answering machine.

I found the machine somewhat difficult to set up & program in all the settings, my phone #, etc., that I needed to do; but probably no more difficult than other fax machines. And a major frustration: when you have it set to "auto", so it can switch between phone & fax, if you answer a phone call from a different phone, this keeps ringing & ringing thru-out the whole length of the phone call (???)--incredibly annoying.

But as I use it only occasionally, I just keep it unplugged until I need to use it. And for the $$, & esp. since it uses ink cartridges unstead of one of those awful film rolls like on my 5 y.o Sharp, it''s probably a pretty good buy.
