SiPix Pocket Printer A6 Thermal Roll Paper (6 Rolls)

SiPix Pocket Printer A6 Thermal Roll Paper
  • Thermal roll paper for the SiPix Pocket Printer A6.
  • Provides approximately 15 cut sheets.
  • High-quality plain white paper.
  • Roll measures 4 1/8" by 8''2" inches.
  • Cut sheets measure 4 1/8" by 5 3/4" inches.

I reveiwed the Sheet version of this paper and find this just a bit expensive for my tastes as well. It''s nice not having to hand feed the printer but you can''t get the curl out of the paper, and it rediculous to pay so much for the paper when it''s just more COST EFFECTIVE to buy the sheet at MicroFormat, INC. Besides, the curl problem with roll paper, this is actually the equivalant of ten sheets less then ACEDEPOT''s 100 sheet pack for about the same price. Whereas Micro Format, INC sells by the cartoon, 500 sheets, while the initial outlay is higher, in long run it''s cheaper.

I use these rolls in a portable printer SiPix. Good quality paper, and customers like the smaller receipts they can file. i don''t have a problem with the paper curl, after i print the receipt i turn the page upside down and use a sharp 90 degree corner to uncurl it. (kinda like when you curl a bow for a present with scissors)

Panasonic KX-FLM671 Multi-Function Fax Machine

Panasonic KX-FLM671 Multi-Function Fax Machine
  • High speed laser printing/copying(14ppm/14cpm)
  • 33.6kbps Super G3 Fax
  • 300 Station Address Book
  • Scan to Email
  • Network Ready (10Base-T/100Base-TX)

This multi-function machine has a super high speed fax, fast laser printing, network scanning and also has a corded phone built-in

We bought this for our small business and have found it to be a time saver. Another nice thing about this machine is that it has built-in call ID so you can see who''s calling

The ease of use and set-up, everything that was needed to use came in the box(software, cords, manuals, etc.) We did have one question about the scanning to PDF so we called the 1-800 number and within 10 minutes we were familiar with the feature. We like the fact that there was additional help from Panasonic if needed.

For the price, a great machine.

We bought this machine as a stand alone fax. First set of ink ran out after three months of minimal use(1-2 pages per day). Replaced with Panasonic toner only to find out we have a bad drum. I talked to Panasonic "customer support" several times and each time they deny speaking to me about this problem the previous time. They will not support their products. We have since purchased a Brother Intellifax 2820 and love it. We had years of service from our HP and great customer service. Stay away from this machine.

HP OfficeJet 9130 All-in-One

HP OfficeJet 9130 All-in-One
  • Prints, copies, scans, and faxes; automatic duplexing
  • Up to 4,800 x 1,200 optimized dpi color printing
  • 3 seconds per page faxing; retractable keyboard
  • Parallel, USB 2.0, HP Jetdirect 620n internal print server
  • Slots for digital camera memory cards; PC and Mac compatible

I purchased this to replace an HP G-85 all in one, and for the most part im extremely pleased.

The scanner function is nothing short of fantastic! once you set up the network card (standard for the 9130) you just hit scan and a speed dial button that you previously configured that points to a folder on your computer; thats it, the printer scans, converts to pdf, and stuffs it over the network and onto your computer! saves me unbelievable amounts of time compared to my old all in one printer.

print function is also good, but it doesnt do the stated ppm. good enough for most things, but i would like somewhat faster.

the one problem i have is paper tray #2. it just doesnt feed right, and it apparently is a design problem. when i use heavier paper, such as the HP bright white 24#, it jams. and jams. and jams. HP was very helpful sending me a new paper tray, new printer, and finally new duplexer (essentially replacing everything), but no luck; it still jams. must be a poor design. the lighter paper seems to work ok (20#) and i had two people at hp help line tell me to use that (sounds like the older doctor line "my arm hurts when i do this", and the doctor replies "then dont do that".) But the HP literature states it will work with bright white 24#, and i bought it based on this ability, so this is a big problem for me.

one other annoyance is that this seems to be the only hp printer ever to not have an envelope slot to feed a single envelope. so if you want envelopes you need to take out the paper in tray #1 and replace with envelopes. you could put envelopes in tray #1 all the time, and bright white in tray #2, but see above regarding feeding issues; this is what i had planned to do!

overall it works well, but with the annoyances stated above, if i could send it back i would.

It''s alright in most respects... I had to install one at work and have been using it for a while... the installation was easy enough; there were a lot of steps but they were explained well...

Print quality is goodno complaints there.

In terms of function I have two primary complaints. First off, the computer seems to have an odd tendency to lose contact with the printer. This results in kind of an irritating situation where you need to turn the printer off and on, or log out and log back inthat sort of thingthen they find eachother again...

The second problem is one that I consider simply poor design. I love the document feeder, but... I''m not sure how to explain this... ok... think of a basic copier with no feeder, you put the page down and a lit bar slides along under it... in ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) enabled equipment, the bar with the light is still thereit just either sits under the ADF or moves and rests under it... then the page is drawn over the lit bar by the feeder... here''s the problem with the 9100 series... each page in the ADF is treated like a separate action to the device and the lit bar is stored on the oposite side of the printer... so, when you go to copy/scan/fax a multipage document the bar has to move under the ADF, so you see it slowly move across under the ADF, the page is inputted, then it moves back to its resting place... then page two... it moves under the ADF, scans and goes back... considering that it takes 5-7 seconds (estimate) to move one way across the glass, this adds a TREMENDOUS time to those actions... I was particularly confused because the device does not recognize another page is in the ADF, so it runs that complete course for each page... that can add a huge amount of time to a big document... I don''t see why HP didn''t either store the lit bar under the ADF or program it to stay under it if another page is in the ADF... seems a little dumb to me...

Otherwise it''s not bad... it works... it just could have been better...

I went to Fry''s Electronics to try a demo.

Using a 9130 unit, I tried to print one page, and it jammed.

Then i examined the unit front panel and discovered 2 manufacturing defects.

This looks like a poorly built printer.

DO NOT BUY NEW. DO NOT BUY USED. THIS IS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF JUNK EVER MADE AND SOLD TO THE UN-SUSPECTING PUBLIC. THE SCANNER DOES NOT WORK. THEREFORE NO COPYING, NO FAXING, NO SCANNING. ONLY HALF-ASSED PRINTING. THE PAPER TRAYS STINK AND ARE USELESS. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY TO DETER YOU FROM EVEN THINKING OF THIS PIECE OF CRAP.

I have been using this matte finish paper for a couple of years now on an HP Z3100 printer. The Dmax for the paper is great. Since I do a lot of astrophotographs, Dmax is important. For normal color printing, the colors are bright and vibrant. Not washed out like some of the low end matte finish papers. I print Giclees of pastel renderings for one of my customers on this paper and she is very happy with the fidelity of the print compared to the original. It holds up well to high ink loading and also does not discolor or fade when used in a low temp dry mount press [128F]. I''m hooked on this stuff.

Definatly would reccomend this cash register to anyone looking for a easy to use, yet professional looking receipt printer.

Only thing is, theres a LOT of steps to go through to set it up, BUT it''s worth it. THey are easy to follow steps, so don''t worry!

After replacing our old Casio cash register (10+ years old) with this model, we''ve been very satisfied. This model is relatively simple to program, easy to load receipt paper, and the receipt item printouts are customizable. It''s a very flexible machine, and with a little initial work, can make life easy. The reporting functions are extensive, even including month-by-month breakdowns of sales. Would have liked a heavier cash drawer, and the bill hold-down levers are somewhat cheaply made, but don''t look like they are in immediate danger of breaking. Overall, happy with this purchase. Four stars out of five, as there are limitations (not serious ones, like item name length and lack of total programming ease) that are not justifiable given the state of modern technology. This, however, applies to most cash registers, and we found this machine to be easier than others.

  • Rapid copying and printing speeds help you get the job done quickly.
  • Copy and scan pages in less time when you use the automatic document feeder.
  • Give your budget and the environment a helping hand with built-in duplex printing and energy saving mode.

Purchased this some months ago. Even though this product seemed too new at that time to have reviews, the reviews I read on other multifunction machines told me that there was an equal risk in going with this or one of the other better rated products.

It turned out to be a good decision. This machine has given good service, though so far I have only used it as a copier alone (and have not used its other functions). But in the copier capacity, it has been reliable and easy to use. The menus are logical, auto feeder etc. work fine, and no jamming problems. The price also seemed reasonable at that time; especially for someone using all of its functions, this is an economical machine.

So far, so good. Recommended.

HP Laser Jet 3052 All in One Printer/Copy/Scanner (White)

HP Laser Jet 3052 All in One Printer/Copy/Scanner
  • HP LaserJet 3052 Multifunction Printer - Monochrome Laser - 19 ppm Mono - 1200 x 1200 dpi - Printer, Copier, Scanner - Fast Ethernet - Mac
  • Mfg #: Q6502A#ABA

This is definitely the best laser AIO machine that I''ve ever used. It is quick, robust, feature-rich, and networkable. Let me break it up to the different areas and give you my impression of each:

Printer From the printer''s sleep mode to the time first page is printed is only around 4 seconds, which is just simply amazing. One small thing to complain about the printing aspect is the print driver. I have a couple other computers on my network that I want to set up to be able to print to this printer, but won''t need the scanning feature. Well, the software that came with the printer is 250mb! The "minimum" installation is still 150mb. I figured there had to be a "driver only" option. After talking to HP, they showed me a 10mb executable that installs a wizard onto your computer to help you set up the network printer. After it is done setting it up, I can safely uninstall the wizard. They really should have included this wizard along with the installation disk, so minus 1/2 a star for that.

Copier This copier has all the features of an office copier, like auto document feed, priority paper feed tray, enlargement/reduction, dark/light, and of course number of pages. The ADF feature is awesome and fast, as it can quickly scan all your pages into memory before printing. One down side (same "problem" as the scanner feature) is that it takes a few seconds for the bulb to warm up (about 20 seconds). Once the bulb is warmed up, it can continue without any delay. I wish this part is faster, but it''s understandable, so no star deduction here.

Scanner Works great. You can set it up so that by pressing the "Scan to" button on the scanner, it will automatically scan and optionally bring up the scanner program on your computer, which will allow you to do many things, such as cropping, adjusting color/saturation, resolution, and many others. The bad part about this is that it takes a bit of playing around before I can find the option of bringing up this program. By default, the scanner will only scan and allow you to save the results to a file or send in an email. However, I discovered you can add a new target, and that can give you the option to bring up the scanner program.

Of course this printer has no fax. However, aside from that, it is the identical printer as the one with fax (3055). That printer is highly praised as well.

One more thing I like about this printer... actually, this is so for all HP and Canon printers. The printer cartridge contains both the toner as well as the drum. When you replace the one cartridge, you are replacing both units. If you buy non-OEM cartridges, the price is only around thirty-something. With other brands, you will need to change the toner when it runs out and then change the drum separately roughly around ever three toner changes. The price of this can certainly add up, as it is an additional component. Traditionally, drums are fairly expensive, so be sure to calculate that cost when trying to decide between brands. As for me, I think I have found a winner. Very happy.

Buy HP Laser Jet 3052 All in One Printer/Copy/Scanner (White) Now

I bought this printer after my HP 2100TN started needing us to press the button on the printer every time we queued a print job. At first the 3052 seemed the answer to our needs. It was very easy to set up for our home office and kids machines. It printed and copied fast and sharp. That lasted for about 100 pages and then it started producing a huge white area down the middle of the page. Removing and shaking the cartridge would fix this for a a few pages and then that stopped working. Faced with a long and frustrating time on the phone with support I decided to just get a new cartridge. This did the trick for about 200 pages and then it started missing the whole center section of the page again. Shaking the cartridge fixes it temporarily. Of course, it always does it when we are in a panic with a customer proposal or homework due that day. I am using genuine HP cartridges which are $55 each. My advice is to look at the competition. Great idea but it doesn''t print!

This HP all in one printer/copy/scanner is just great. I''ve had mine for about a month now and I haven''t had a single problem thusfar.

As far as printing, the printer is much like previous models of HP laser printers. The prints come out flawless and are crisp and dark. Speed was very important in buying a laser printer and this one lives up to my expectations.

The copy/scanning property of this AIO printer is easy to use and very powerful. While I can''t copy color photos (b&w laser printer), the scanning of any image, color or not, comes out pretty well on the computer. It is easy to tell the AIO printer to scan an image from the computer and the picture is conveniently saved as a jpeg at a location of my choosing. No fuss or hassles.

I''m currently a college student and copying class notes or study guides has never been easier. I just put the stack of papers into the copying tray, tell the printer to copy them, and it''s done...quickly. Long gone are the days when I had to run to the library or copy store and find change to get copies. This thing does it all.

The ONLY reason why I gave it 4 stars is because of the printer''s size. It is big. I imagine it is quite difficult to pack a printer/copier/scanner all into one printer and maintain a small size, but I think HP may have been able to do it. This printer does take up a large amount of desk space compared to other printers I''ve seen. However, it still beats having a separate printer and scanner, so I won''t complain too much.

Want HP Laser Jet 3052 All in One Printer/Copy/Scanner (White) Discount?

I just shipped my HP 3052 back off to where it came from. I either have to really like something or really hate something to write a review on it, and I really hate this printer. I purchased the HP 3052 after reading some reviews on the HP 3055, and deciding that I didn''t need the fax capabilities of the 3055 which didn''t seem to work well for most people anyhow. Apparently, it''s not just the fax feature that is faulty, but the scanning and copying leaves a lot to be desired as well. I purchased this to replace my aging, but still working, 10 year old NEC SuperScript 860 laser printer. I needed something to make decent copies, and to scan in documents. Well forget it with this! You WILL REGRET buying this electronic "Made in China" garbage if you are planning on using this for anything other than a printer. This has changed my opinion on HP, as it will yours if you buy it.

When I first power on the unit, I tried copying the Vonage advertisement that came with it by running it through the auto document feeder. The first thing I notices was that the ADF was loud. This was fine since noise isn''t too much of a concern, just as long is it functions well, and there isn''t anyone else around to be disturbed by it. After examining the copy, I realized the Vonage letters were stretched out about 1/8" about 3/4 down from the top of the letters. To make things worse, there was a 1 1/2" oval shape on the Vonage ad, which this printer distorted one entire side of, almost as if someone had tried to trace it with a pen. I tried several copies through the ADF with the same results over and over. I thought that maybe the stretched letters were due to a problem with the auto document feeder, so I tried copying the Vonage brochure on the flat bed. I did not see a problem with the Vonage letters being stretched when copying on the flat bed, but there was still distortion on the oval shape again. Next, I tried copying other documents with similar bad results. Copying bar codes revealed that when printing lines close together, the black bleeds between them! Edges on copied fonts were a rough as well.

Next I tried connecting the 3052 to my PC with USB 2.0. I ended up with an installation failed message on my first attempt at installing the software. Looking in device manager, I found a problem with installing the driver for "Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support." I tried uninstalling and installing the drivers several times to no avail. I then tried a 400MB full download of the latest full driver release from HP, and had the same problem. Next, I tried a smaller 40MB driver release on HP''s site. This time I kept getting prompted to locate files that the installation could not find. After performing a search on my hard drive, I located them in c:\temp, where the installer must have extracted them to. I had to keep navigating the installer to this directory numerous times during this install. Much to my amazement, this install attempt actually ended up working.

Now I wanted to test the scanning functionality. The included scanning software is very basic. It does allow you to setup custom profiles for scanning resolution, destination, and paper type. I first tested scanning with the included Vonage advertisement again. The results were to say the list, shocking and very disappointing. First, the color scans were washed out. Second, the black on white text had extreme orange and blue halos around the edges, almost like looking at a 3d movie, without the 3d glasses. Third, there were some visual artifices, scanning inaccuracies, and scanned objects appeared wavy. Fourth, I got the same results as above when using the ADF for copying as I did scanning. I wish I could include a sample image so you could see the atrociousness for yourselves. Lastly, scans are slow, and I found that when scanning in 8 1/2 x 11 documents, they would often be scanned in skewed, no matter what paper the originals were on or how I adjusted the auto document feeder guides. Furthermore, when I scanned documents with print on both sides, the print on the opposite side would bleed through. From my experience with photo technology, my hunch would be that the cheap imager in this needs an enormous amount of light to scan, so that images on the opposite side of the page bleed through.

I really don''t want to say anything good about this printer, but I will say that printing looked very good, and it gets 1 star for this. Printing was crisp and clear, even with small fonts. B/W photo printing was on the other hand was mediocre, but who uses a B/W laser printer for photos anyhow?

My advice would be to look elsewhere for your scanning and copying needs. This might do for a cheap printer/scanner/copier for your kids, but not for a professional environment. I might purchase the Dell 1815dn as it has received good reviews, purchase a separate printer and scanner, or hold out until something better comes along. I hope this review has been helpful, and can save you from the hassle and expense of a return!

I needed a printer that can do fax and make copy in the office, so I picked this one in a rush thinking All-in-One should have all functions. It turned out that I was wrong. This model does not have fax capability. I eventually bought 3055 again for the office and put htis one at home. It is a pretty good printer and copier. The only problem I have is that if you want to manually print double-sides, the roller seems to get dirty easily and the outputs are not so great.

This product advertises as specialty ink for specific models of HP printers, but the plain truth is it''s just ordinary generic chinese ink (the box is actually all in chinese characters with no english instructions whatoever) suitable to use in ANY printer, which might be a good think if the seller was honest enough to say it, but I bought it misled by the information that made me believe it was something else. The seller contacted me saying he was sorry that I didn''t like the product, I told him never mind, then he asked me to please remove my negative feedback in order no to hurt his businnes. I said ok, but at least send me a free pack in return ( an $ value ). He didn''t even bother to reply. I guess he couldn''t afford to loose bucks to keep a client...

This unit can do it all (except fax). The software is a dream compared to the HP2150 I returned in order to get this. I got the HP because it had built in wireless/ethernet print server and a fax. But the software bundle is all or nothing, they didn''t separate out the printer driver...so anyone who wants to just print on the thing must first install 1.5gb (thats GIGabytes) of crap the infects your registry like a cancer. This Epson RX600''s software is a dream. They separated everything! Just want to print occasional black and white like me, driver is just 8mb. Want everything and do photo touchups and crazy things and photo albums and scan (like my wife) just put in the cd and add what you want one app at a time. That''s why we went with this printer and returned the HP. Also, one more plus is that the RX600 scans old negatives and can print them perfectly or digitize them for you forever the HP can''t. I LOVE this feature (and yes, it''s a combo of mechanical and software differences that achieve this, I dare you to try on another machine). I do miss the HP''s built in print server. I bought a Linksys Wireless-G for USB2.0, and it won''t work with this printer. Epson wrote me back and confirmed this. This is why I docked this review by a star. You MUST be able to run your printers from a print server. My 4 year old HPLaserJet3150 hooked up no problem, but my new Epson fails? That sucks, and if my wife didn''t love this so much, I would send it back strictly for that reason. I do like how it''s USB 2.0, it is fast. Separate color tanks (...)are sweet, not like HP where if blue runs out, you''re forced to buy all other colors again. This has 6 color tanks all independently replaceable. Nice.

PROS: USB2.0, individual color tanks, scan negatives,LCD screen, front loading usb input for cameras, built in card reader on the front, great b/w quality, killer photo print quality, minimal/incremental/customizable software/driver install (extremely flexible and lightweight)

CONS: doesn''t work w/ LinkSys print servers

There are hundreds of products I could (or should) have reviewed. Some good, some bad. This is the first one I have ever felt strongly enough to comment on.

Being in the IT field I have always been skeptical of "all in one devices". However, after doing some research this is typical of those devices

Pros:

(1) It''s photocopier plain and simple. With or without the PC. Color, BW, enlarge, reduce, zoom all the features of regular coper.

(2) Digital camera support memory card or USB cable. Images can be viewed and printed directly again, without a PC

(3) Ease of setup. Very easy to follow directions. Step by step. It works as advertised with no installation hassles (WinXP)

(4) Scanner & a printer. Attach to the PC via USB scan to image, scan to application. Very easy to use, and again, it does everything it says it should do

Cons:

Honestly I can''t offer any. Maybe the price, but even then you''re getting a set of multi-funcitonal devices all in one. How much would a printer, a scanner, and a color copier cost separately. How much space and cabling hassle would there be?

I am soooooo disappointed to read that the Epson RX600 I''ve had for a year is notorious for having the LCD screen die. What good is the "photo" printer with all the extra features if I need the LCD screen to use them and it''s totally black? If Epson knows this problem is widespread, why is this product still on the market? I have just contacted their customer service and I will also contact the BBB, Consumer Reports and whoever else I need to to get this "bad" product widespread "attention" it has earned!

Want Epson Stylus Photo RX600 Inkjet All-in-One Discount?

The LCD screen just went blank after 4 months of use, making the functions besides basic printing partly inacessible. Epson promised a replacement in 3-5 business days. I am informed by the previous reviews that it will be refurbished, not new. I wasn''t told that by anyone at Epson. We''ll see how the replacement works. That said, even when it was working, it''s not a good choice for general use. When you print, it freezes your program while it slowly sends the information to the printer, and it prints slowly. The draft setting produces a useless shadow, you can''t even use it for text, it''s too light to read. The ink cartridges are expensive, and have to be changed frequently, every month for the black, in our small office. Get a HP for general use, and use Epson for printing photos you want to keep. Don''t bother with the other functions.

At this point, the replacement printer has arrived, was a pain in the neck to set up, and immediately, the day it arrived, was in need of servicing, "some parts at the end of their useful lives" as the message reads. So not only did they send a refurbished printer, but an old one as well. If I had not already bought over a hundred dollars in ink cartridges, I would send this printer back. More trouble than it''s worth. Zero stars.

Epson technical assistance explained that they "probably" replaced all the used parts already, and just didn''t reset the mother board, helped me disable the error message and, without admitting in so many words that in fact they might not have replaced all the used parts, pointed out that we are still under warranty until December. How reassuring. After another 1 1/4 hours on the phone. Is this how you want to spend your workday?

My Epson Stylus Photo RX600 had its screen go dark after about 16 months of service. I thought at first it was a loose wire. But in fact, the Epson Stylus Photo RX600 appears to be notorious for the LCD burning out! If you go to the Epson Website, they list 3 parts dealers (in February 2007). 2 of 3 of them do not appear to list the LCD screen for replacement. The website of the 3rd one is down. I may call them on Monday.

MEANWHILE-Sooner or later you will want to change your ink cartridges.

HERE''S HOW TO GET THE PRINT HEAD TO MOVE TO ITS REPLACEMENT POSITION--

1) Turn off the printer, then turn it on again.

Wait until the lights stop blinking.

2) Press the [Setup] button. It should light up.

3) PRESS THE DOWN ARROW 4 TIMES (It is the down part of the concave circular button immediately to the right of the burned out screen).

4) Press the [OK] button TWO TIMES.

If you are successful, the printer should buzz briefly.

When you open the top, the ink holder should have moved to its "load/reload" position, and you can then change the ink cartridges.

Some companies have software that allows you to manipulate the printer from

your computer screen. Epson apparently does not.

I thought it was a great printer and scanner, while it worked, but the loss of the

LCD screen makes about 2/3 of its features unavailable for use.

So if you are thinking of getting one, Don''t! Either that, or buy the longest extended warranty package possible. You are going to need it!

Brother MFC-7440N Laser Multifunction Center with Ethernet Network Interface

I''ve been using this for a couple of months now and it''s been performing very well. This replaced an old HP LaserJet 4050 with a network print server that finally died. This unit has not been setup or used for faxing, so that is not taken into account in this review.

Setup and installation was quick and easy, and the print quality is excellent. Crisp letters and text, as well as good b/w images.

The unit does take a little while to start printing a job maybe 15 or 20 seconds but when it does begin the speed is very good. This isn''t a problem for us and I really don''t see that it would cause anyone much of a problem at all. In most cases the job is done before you go to retrieve it. I just needed to mention it because I''m sure someone will give it a 1* rating just because of that... I guess if you need INSTANT prints, then don''t get this.

The software that comes with it is very good, especially in that it allows you to easily configure the functionality of both the software and hardware ''buttons''. I liked the fact that in addition to changing the standard ''buttons'', it also provides another 4 custom software buttons that you can use to setup specific scanning tasks without interfering with the normal buttons.

Scanning is a little slow, partly because the default resolution is quite high. Bringing this back down in line with other default scanner resolutions helps, but it is still slower than other AIOs I''ve used in the past. It won''t be a big deal if you only use it occasionally or can lower the resolution a long way for your needs, but if you need frequent high-res scans then this is probably not the machine to get.

Scanning is also a little louder than on some other AIOs, almost like the mechanism belt is hitting some kind of specific vibration frequency every now and then. Again, this isn''t really a big deal for me.

I did see another couple of reviewers that weren''t happy with the hinges on the scanner cover, but they seem perfectly fine to me. The hinges are supposed to be loose and moveable to allow you to scan large books etc, and I don''t see anything wrong with them apart from that.

I''m not really going to go into the Copy feature, since that is just a product of Scanning and Printing...

The paper feed tray seems pretty smooth and I get the feeling that it would be less likely to jam or pick up multiple pages than some other feed types, e.g. vertical feeds. Not very scientific I know, but just a hunch. Perhaps that''s an indication of the build quality?

The paper out tray area is small, but that seems to be a standard feature of Brother AIOs. I don''t know why they do it this way but it is certainly peculiar and it can make it tougher to get at your jobs than on other devices. This is more of an issue when the print job is quite large. I knew what I was getting having checked it out at the store first, so I''m not surprised, however its definitely an odd design "feature". It didn''t put me off getting it because of the other good points, but this is certainly a weakness.

All-in-all this is a good network AIO for scanning, copying and printing. IMO, for the price, it is clearly a better buy than other name brands and the quality of the machine seems to be very sound.

I haven''t yet used enough pages to verify the estimated number of pages per toner, but the high-volume toner I purchased at the same time was certainly cheaper than the HP equivalent (about half the price) so even if the count is off by some amount it probably won''t be any more expensive in the long term.

As I mentioned at the top of the review, I have not taken into account the Fax features as I do not use them. If I ever do, I will update this review accordingly.

Update 12/22/09:

913 pages printed, mainly text, using the initial small "starter" toner that came with the unit before it needed replacing. In my experience that is pretty good for a starter toner. Print quality was good to the end, and it was only changed because it sensed it was empty and wouldn''t let us continue printing otherwise. I suspect there might be a workaround to trick the sensor and get more pages but I haven''t tried anything myself. Still recommend the product.

Update 7/24/12:

3987 pages printed when the next toner died. Putting a sticker over the clean hole either side of the cartridge allowed it to start working again. I will update when we actually replace it to indicate how many more prints we get without much degradation in print quality.

I needed a network printer so I purchased this to replace an old Brother HL-T440 (factory refurb bought for $150.00) that was non-networked (USB only). That printer still works great and I heartily recommend any Brother printer that uses TN-430 or TN-460 cartridges. Printers that accept that cartridge series have a very reliable print engine and huge toner capacity (4 years of SOHO use before replacing the first standard capacity cartridge).

Pros: option of either USB or network use, affordable price, ease of set up, small size, good print quality, 32 mb of printer memory (good for faxing or printing large jobs), affordable print cartridges, good scan quality, custom buttons for fax functions, extending hinges over scanner tray for large books/objects, comes with telephone cord, works way better than color inkjet printer fax/copier/printer combos. Buy this and a decent dedicated photo-printer from Epson or Canon if you are an avid photographer, accepts either legal (8x14 inch paper) in the paper tray. Affordable text recognition software but baffled by old inkjet invoices coverted to Word (to be honest, most scanning software doesn''t do well converting old inkjet prints to Word documents).

Cons: uses a smaller toner cartridge format than older Brother printers, small output tray (holds only 60-80 pages of output), loud automated fax/copier feeder, this is a slightly louder laser printer than HP, Canon or Xerox printers (it won''t wake a baby in the next room, but some people have auditory sensitivity so I must be exact), slightly slower USB printing than HP & Canon (half to one second), slightly longer printer spooling time than other laser printers on a network (but spools large print jobs faster than competitors in this price class), does not come with network cable or USB cord, more finicky (and slow) manual feed tray.

I read the reviews and it seems that these either work well out of the box or don''t. For those people who purchased one with paper feeding issues, return/exchange ASAP. In 20 years of employment I have observed that paper feeding machines (printer, fax, copiers, scanners) of all brands either feed well right of the box or they don''t. One should only buy office paper that is 20 lb (75 g/m2). If your machine can''t feed that, it''s a fraction of a millimeter or two off in spec and you will never be happy with it.

Slow but seamless loading of software on my old AMD Sempron based backup/thrasher computer with XP over 30 minutes (2002 cheapo home built computer). Be patient. No huge conflicts with antivirus software (I loaded the drivers on each computer with firewall/antivirus on instead of box instructions to turn that software off). Much faster loading times on my newer computers with various flavors of Windows XP).

Remember with any laser printer that it is important to shake the toner cartridge gently from side to side (not up/down/upside-down) before loading and whenever it shows low toner alert.

I bought this machine under 2 weeks ago, and sadly I am going to need to return it, because I can''t get it to not jam on paper. The only way I can print is to manually feed each piece of paper one by one. Otherwise, it grabs several papers at the same time, printing part of a sheet on one and part on others, and often jamming up. I have tried different types of papers, different weights, the different feeders, read the manuals and the troubleshooting, and it hasn''t made a difference.

Otherwise, the machine seems great. I had trouble-free installation on 2 XP computers, the scan quality is great, the print quality is very good when you put it at the higher level, crisp blacks. I would like to be able to keep it, but I can''t be expected to be my printer''s page-feeder for every document.

I have owned this printer for a few months and have been very happy with it. It works very well with a mac, it''s very easy to use and the printing quality is great. The scanner works well too and its really easy to scan or make photocopies. It''s very compact and takes as little desk space as an all-in-one can take.

Especially for mac users, I think brother all-in-one''s are the best ones.

I bought the unit from Office Max on 1/22/09 and I''m returning it today 1/27/09.

I was pleased with the unit except that it fails to consistently load paper. It will print anywhere from 1 to 20 pages before it stops and says "out-of-paper". It was also wrinkling the paper right where the mechanism grabs a sheet out of the tray. I read all the manuals and tried 3 diff. brands of paper including their recommended brand.
