I was making custom mini-helmets for my family, turning their fantasy football team logos into helmets, and I was looking for a decal paper to use. Being that the paper was fairly expensive, I wanted to make sure I was very careful and followed the instructions exactly. Each time I tried to use one of the decals I made, the decal would have tiny white spots all over it and would tear very easily. I am extremely disappointed in this product. And unfortunately, I won''t be able to surprise my family for Christmas. I am unsure of other alternatives for decal paper, but I would not and can not recommend this product to anyone. Also, if you do decide to purchase this product, it is much cheaper directly from the manufacturer (something I wish I looked up before).

HP Officejet 6000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer (C9295A#B1H)

HP Officejet 6000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer (C9295A#B1H)
  • Up to 32 ppm black and 28 ppm color using individual ink tanks
  • Up to 40% less energy consumption than laser
  • Up to 40% lower cpp than laser
  • Built-in wireless networking and automatic two-sided printing
  • Uses HP 920 Series ink cartridges

I gave the printer five stars, because of price point (at 89.00, the ability to print wirelessly and with such a good quality printer is amazing) and because the printer has worked seamlessly once it was set up. Also, because HP clearly cares enough to add (not so) little touches such as:

1. Including the USB cable with the printer (Canon does not do this, from what I remember).

2. Including (this is amazing) the actual cartridges with the printer instead of "starter" cartridges that print maybe fifty sheets before conking out. Truthfully, you have to factor that into the price of these "cheaper" printers and realize that you have to tack on another thirty or more dollars to the price to pay for decent cartridges. With the ones supplied, I should be able to print at least 400 pages of black and white letters, email, etc. befor replacing the black cartridge.

3. If, like most of us looking for a small business (or home business) printer, there is the option to use an extended black cartridge which will give you even more pages between changes. This wouldn''t be so important for a photo printer, but for what it is (it''s called an "Officejet," remember) this is a wonderful feature.

4. The printer goes into standby mode and "wakes up" when needed. Perhaps all new printers do this (my last printer was from a few years ago) but I find this a great feature.

Some may be put off by the form factor this is not a small printer and takes up a fair amount of desk space. Also, the majority of the plastic sides are in white, (or putty, I suppose) which I have a feeling will show dirt and smudges worse than a silver or black model.

Finally, let''s get to the frustrating elements. As I''ve said, none of these were bad enough for me to lower the five star rating, but they were a little annoying:

1. (this is trivial but if it saves someone else the headache, it''s worth mentioning) the set up instructions included in the box clearly show a plastic back panel that looks to be inserted when one is not using the black duplex printing back that comes with this unit. Duplex printing means the ability to print on both sides of the page, and the black plastic back is called "optional" in the instructions. Well, upon unpacking the printer I couldn''t find the other panel anywhere in the box or on the printer -although it was clearly seen in the picture. I called HP and, as I surmised, the printer does NOT come with this flat back panel. You LEAVE the black duplex printing back (which sticks out in a bump from the back) in the printer all the time. The pictures in the instructions were for the NON-WIRELESS version of the printer. It would have been nice if someone had mentioned that the wireless printer ONLY comes with the black back.

2. It takes the printer up to ten minutes to set itself up when you turn it on for the first time. This is clearly marked in the instructions, but if you don''t notice it, you might think something is wrong as you wait...and wait...and wait...for it to print that magical first test page. NOTHING IS WRONG. Have patience.

3. As others have noted, the software is ridiculously slow to install. I will say that when I installed it in our XP (the second computer) it took a fraction of the time, so perhaps this is a Vista issue. But it took (I''m not kidding) forty-five minutes to load. I kept thinking it was hanging, but then it would inch foward another 1% and chug along. I have NEVER had software take this long to load since the DOS days! Oh, and make sure you disable your anit-virus software before you load it. I didn''t and it seemed to make it crash the first time I tried to install it. (obviously turn back your anti-virus software after installation).

The GOOD NEWS: Once installed, it found the router immediately and both computers found the printer with no problems whatsoever. To have a wireless printer that my wife can print her recipes without having to bother me or I can print without taking up a valuable USB slot on my laptop is fantastic. And the quality is great for basic office chores.

I have NO idea if it will last, but as of now, I''m am really delighted to have a wireless printer with so many features at thie price point.

After fairly extensive research on line and thru Consumer Reports and CNET for a replacement for an old Canon inkjet printer I selected the HP Officejet 6000 for use both as a text printer and for color prints both as part of text documents and for color photographic prints. Out of the box this HP has proven to be a disappointment as to the quality of the product and the print results.

The printer has a fairly large footprint requiring more space than similar Canon and Epson printers I''ve used. It is extremely noisy and grinds loudly through the print cycles particularly when a change is made in the type of document being created. As with most inkjet printers the ink tanks are quite costly and for this printer availability appears limited at some of the more common resources.

Comparing the quality of the photos run on both this printer and an older Epson Stylus Photo R200 I have the Epson creates a much superior finished photo on photo paper. The same is true when printing photos on plain paper as one might do in a newsletter. The HP produced pictures that were less sharp and the colors were muddy.

Text printing is reasonably acceptable. The documentation except for a "how to" sheet for set up is very minimal and you have to go to the accompanying CD to get more info or visit HP''s web site. While the printer has convenient buttons and lights to provide ink status and basic operations and a nice design the output falls short of expectations.

While the initial price is attractive, with the manufacture''s ink so pricy it quickly becomes an expensive printer. The printer does not come with any connecting cords other than the AC power cord and box that coverts it to a lower voltage, so expect to have to purchase a USB cable unless you are fortunate enough to already have the style required.

This one goes back. For photos on any type paper seems Epson is a better choice in inkjet printers.

FIRST, I used to be a very PRO-HP person. The last two printers I owned were HP so I figured I''d naturally go with another HP. BAD DECISION!

1. IT USES INK FASTER THAN ANY PRINTER I''VE EVER HAD and there''s BAD reasons for that!

2. IT''S THE LOUDEST PRINTER I"VE EVER OWNED

3. IT TAKES LONGER TO PRINT STUFF

I printed about ten documents a few weeks ago. Black ink on white paper right? THEN WHY DID THE "CYAN INK CARTRIDGE IS EMPTY" LIGHT GO ON AFTER PRINTING THEM???

Well, the reason is because HP has figured it might not hurt to ADD COLORS TO THE BLACK PRINTING PROCESS SO THEY"LL RUN OUT FASTER! They also had the cartridge ink sensors set so they would prematurely notify you that the ink cartridges were running low wayyyy before they needed replacement.

Don''t trust my claims...check it out at Consumer Reports:

I looked at several "simple" printers (i.e. not the multipurpose printers with scanners and etc.). The HP6000 Officejet seemed to be a good deal from the reviews that I read.

The printer was very easy to set up as a wireless printer, taking about 1/2 hour from opening the box to printing the first test page. I''ve printed Avery labels, Avery cards and 24 pound paper without any problems such as jamming or feeding more than one sheet at a time. The print speed is acceptable and depends somewhat on the optional resolution selected the finer the resolution the slower it prints, "Normal" works just fine for my printing.HP Officejet 6000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer (C9295A#B1H)

The ink cartridges that shipped with the printer are a disappointment one week of not much printing and I already need the Yellow and Magenta cartridges. I''ve ordered the "extra" capacity (should be the only choice) cartridges. Hopwfully these ink cartridges will last much longer.

All in all, I''m pleased that I can print from any of our in-house computers. The ONLY drawback to that is that we have to go to where the printer is DUH.

I have used several brands and types of printers over the years, both at work and at home. For personal use, this is one of the best I''ve had. Very satisifed with the print quality and overall speed, although the duplexing is not that fast. Still, to get automatic duplexing at under $100 was a real deal. (I paid $90 with free next business day delivery.) It is somewhat noisier than my last HP printer (a Deskjet 6980 wireless) but none of the inkjet printers I''ve used were what I would call quiet. (Even my Epson RX500 3-in-1 isn''t perfectly quiet.) Installation was easy about 1/2 hour from out of the box to the printed test page. (For what it''s worth, my operating system is Vista Home Premium 64 Bit Service Pack 2 running on an HP laptop with AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-82 processors at 2.2 Mhz with 4 GB DDR2 RAM. I also took their advice to temporarily disable my anti-virus software before performing the installation.) When I installed it on my regular PC (which is also from HP and runs Vista Home Premium 32 Bit Service Pack 2 with similar Intel dual-core processors and 4 GB DDR2 RAM), all went smoothly without disabling the anti-virus. It was found on my in home network without difficulty and ready to use in roughly 15 minutes. I don''t know if computer brand, operating system, processor type and speed or amount of RAM made the difference and allowed me to avoid the nightmare one person had and the agonizingly s-l-o-w set-up reported by another.

My one minor gripe is the antiquated requirement of physically attaching the printer to your computer in order to transfer network settings as part of the installation. My Deskjet 6980, which this printer is replacing, had the really useful feature of being able to get network settings from a flash drive plugged into the front of the unit like front AV connections on TV''s. If I didn''t have a laptop, it would have been much harder for me as I have little room to spare where my regular PC is set up and, as has been mentioned by others, this is not a small, tuck it in a corner printer. Fortunaely the 6980 didn''t have a small footprint either the only difference between the two being that the duplexing unit adds a couple of inches to the overall depth of the 6000. It''s a little tight where I have it, but it beats running up and down stairs to my Epson all to heck!

All in all, however, I would recommend this printer as being a really good bang for the buck!

Wausau Astroparche 24 , , Fine Business Stationery, 100 Count, Natural, 8.5 X 11 Inches
  • Acid and lingin free for great quality that doesn''t deteriorate
  • Inkjet, laser, copier and offset guaranteed
  • Papers with a professional look
  • The paper is made with 30 percent recycled post-consumer fiber
  • 100 Sheets

We had had problems printing certificates with the card stock version of this Wasau Natural Astroparche on our HP LaserJet printer. Flecks of ink would appear on the card stock. The HP manual said this was symptomatic of rough surfaced paper. Indeed, the card stock felt a little rough.

We tried this letter paper instead of card stock. It felt smoother. We found no flecks of ink on this letter paper. It works great!

Sure, it is nicer to give a certificate with a little more class than a flimsy piece of paper. Card stock would do that (but not with flecks of ink on it). Our solution was to buy some decent black plastic frames at the Dollar Store and stick the fine Wasau Astroparche certificates in them. It is actually much more impressive that way than the card stock, and still within budget.

It ran reliably through both my laser and inkjet printers, and is also easy to mark by hand for last-minute additions. No problems with looking the worse for wear after a couple of hours, and it did not leave a residue on my attendee''s apparel. Recommended.

In trying these for review, I used them for a mixed class of adults with children. Children are notoriously hard on sticky nametags, yet these stayed on very well. Even after a couple of them removed and restuck them in different places on their clothes, during which the tags pick up fibers from the clothing which would usually cause them to fall off after reapplying, these kept on sticking!

I found great results with adults also. The toughest fabrics for nametags to stay on, I find, is flowy nylon and shiny/silky/satiny women''s blouses that are made from these tend to be quite problematic. But these Avery badges stayed on without even a curling corner!

They peel off incredibly well, also, no tearing in half when being pulled from the corner, thanks to the slightly plastic-y nature of the material these are made from.

My only complaint is a general one that applies to all printable labels. It bothers me that no matter what I''ve done, I still end up with the printing slightly off-center, either side-to-side or top-to-bottom. It never fails to print slightly off, and I''ve tried several printers with the same results. I hope to someday find a solution to this issue.

Other than that, these name badges are great, and I highly recommend them.

I bought these for a family reunion. We wanted a personalized ID tag with Family Name and Date. These labels printed well and believe me, they stuck and stayed in place on shirts and blouses to the very end! Much better, and classier, than the old ''hello, my name is . . .'' labels. Worth the extra cost.

As a rule, I have taken photographs, stored them on an external hard drive or processed and placed them on my web site (cordjonesfotos.com); I have never printed them--and had absolutely no idea what paper to try. Beginning in January, I began selling my photos and had to print them. So I tried a few different types of paper, none of which rang my bell for their eye catching results. On a whim, I tried Inkpress Pro Gloss; all I can say is WOW! The paper is so spectacular, it even makes my photos look good!

The machine is easy enough to use, but it is painfully slow. The worst part about this fax is the seemingly random "Check Paper" messages that appear on the display and halt whatever the fax is doing at that time. The ability to copy is a plus. If you are looking for a home fax machine that you will seldom use, this may be the one for you since it''s cheap and it works but if you are running any kind of business, look elsewhere.

Great sturdy little fax/copier. East to setup, simple user-friendly buttons & menus. Uses plain paper. Stores incoming faxes in memory if you run out of paper, and prints them as soon as you add more paper. It is slow if you set it higher than standard quality, but mine has run 10 years with no errors, or repairs. The phone is handy too. Solid, reliable, well-made. I love it''s simplicity.

I got this printer a few months ago for my office and so far I really like it. The duplex option is terrific. Double-sided printing not only is greener, it helps to keep the files from getting too fat.

The print quality is great, though the colors do print a bit darker than I''d expect based on their appearance on screen. I haven''t had any paper jams or other problems with it.

Getting the full size printer cartridges with it is a good deal. So far, I''ve only had to change the black one so it does monitor them separately (I''ve heard of other HP color printers that force you to change the color printer cartridges when the black runs out).

BTW, I don''t know what the guy with the envelope problems is talking about. I print envelopes frequently and it has never sealed one. Based on my experience, I would guess his problems have more to do with the humidity around his store of envelopes than with the printer.

It is great having a color LaserJet printer. I am using it on my Mac. The only thing I wish this printer had was a built in wireless capability. Installation went without a hitch and I am very happy with my new color printer.

HP CP3505DN Color Laserjet PrinterI purchased the hp 3505 dn primarily for its color duplex capabilities and it does a superb job. The printer arrived with all toner cartridges installed and all I had to do was remove the packing materials, load rhe software, connect it to my network and print. I have never had a paper jam have used regular copy paper as well as card stock. I don''t do double sided with card stock though. I rate hp printers as one of the best brands and currently have 2 hp color lasers and 2 black and white laser printers and have had no problems with any of them. I can reccommend the hp 3505 dn printer to anyone.

Want HP CP3505DN Color Laserjet Printer Discount?

I have had HP color laser printers in the past and if you''re looking for a printer for work or mostly text this is absolutely amazing. While no laser printer can give you the photo quality of an inkjet, this printer (1) has a short warm up time, (2) prints great color if you use charts or legal work and need to see the citations, and (3) is simply quiet. You can''t go better than HP. Unfortunately, because it''s color, the price of toner isn''t the cheapest, but if you couple this with the fact that it''s duplex, you''ll save more than you think.

We replaced another HP printer with this one. Very fast output, great color, and the automatic two sided printing is a terrific feature. There was virtually no new learning curve, and we are able to get operational in minutes rather than in hours. Thanks, HP.

Epson PictureMate Pal (PM 200) 4x6 Photo Printer

Epson PictureMate Pal 4x6 Photo Printer
  • View, edit and print brilliant 4x6" photos - without a PC!
  • Compatible with all popular memory cards and camera phones with PictBridge or Bluetooth* adaptor.
  • Print smudge, scratch, water and fade resistant photos you''ll be proud to share.
  • Beautiful glossy or matte prints last generations longer than traditional film-processed photos.
  • Print stacks of lab quality photos at an everyday low price -- it''s an unbeatable value for superior photos

Epson''s newest series of portable printers seem like a downgrade compared with their previous printer, the picturemate deluxe.

The prints speeds are improved a bit in some of these new printers, but all these new printers use a dye based ink system instead of pigment based ink. Pigment based ink is used in Epson''s professional line of printers because the ink has been tested to last 200 years in a photo book or 100 years in a glass frame. Notice that Epson does not comment on how long prints will last from these dye ink printers.

Though, for the average consumer, they may find the other features of this printer appealing. It has a faster print speed compared with the picturemate deluxe. I own the picturemate deluxe and do not find it''s print speed too slow. I''m sure the print quality of the picturemate pal will long just as nice, but it will not be suitable for archival prints if this is important to you.

This is a great little printer. The size is appealing, and it''s easy transportable (with a convenient carry-handle on top). Unfortunately it does not have a battery, so it must still be plugged in.

I really like the fact that the ink and paper are purchased together, and the quantities of both seem to line up fairly well, so I''m not running out of one or the other at different times.

As far as the ink goes, I''m not sure what the other reviewer is talking about, because, according to Epson, even the different kind of ink this printer uses is still archival quality.

I think the picture quality is good for the price of this machine.

This is a great printer. The photo quality is fantastic and it''s super easy to use. The borders are also very fun. I made my own Christmas cards this year!

This Photo Printer replaces an old Kodak printer dock that died after many years and thousands of photos. I wanted a printer that would do 4X6 photos. I''m very pleased with the Epson PictureMatePal. It works easily. I like it better than my old printer, especially that it closes up when not in use to protect it from dust and dog hairs.

I am extremely disappointed with my printer. I had a Sony FP30 Picture Station and decided to replace it when the feeder become worn down. I bought the PictureMate Pal (PM 200) unit based on the positive reviews I have seen for it, the price, and the high-speed at which the unit can print.

It usually starts out okay, but inevitably the quality degrades as it prints. I usually have to stop it once or twice and clean the heads or align the nozzles wasting precious ink and paper in the process.

I continue to lose photos because the quality gradually degrades, and by the time it is noticeable, I often find myself going back to reprint 15 or 20 prints.

I have a MAC, and the Photo Impression utility is not user friendly at all. When the printer is interrupted, instead of resuming it starts over resulting in wasted prints.

I would recommend staying away from this unit -I''m kicking myself for purchasing it.

Pocketjet 6+ 300Dpi Bt/Usb/Irda No Batt/Doc Set/Accessories/Cabl

Pocketjet 6+ 300Dpi Bt/Usb/Irda No Batt/Doc Set/Accessories/CablFor my small mobile tire business, this printer is outstanding. I didn''t want to worry about dried up ink jet printers and I certainly didn''t want some huge power hungry laser printer in the small space my box van provides. So far i''ve printed 70 invoices for customers on the spot and they''re very impressed with the results and that i''m able to print an invoice out of my van. My setup consists of an HTC thunderbolt android smartphone, a microsoft 6000 bluetooth keyboard to make typing descriptions fast, the mobilebiz app for invoicing, a hard wired kit for this printer, and the printershare app which makes printing to bluetooth printers possible through your phone. I ordered the precut thermal sheets to make it look more professional. Feeding the printer the precut sheets takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it it''ll pull it in straight everytime. I would say transmitting the document takes 10 seconds or so, and printing a full page invoice takes roughly half the time. I sort of went into detail on my setup because in talking to brother directly, they really didnt'' provide concrete info as to whether or not this bluetooth printer would work with an android phone. Searches on the internet provided almost no information, but enough for me to find out about the printershare app that makes it possible.

Just a side note, regarding the bluetooth keyboard, I had to root and install a different ROM on my phone to make it work. Turns out my HTC (maybe all android phones, but I don''t know) dont have a complete bluetooth stack, and are unable to communicate with a bluetooth keyboard. The custom ROM allowed everything to work perfectly, i''m using thundershed 1.3.

This is a fantastic little piece of kit. It''s reliable and incredibly small. I print using my netbook and everything couldn''t be easier. The paper''s stored inside in a little roll which means I don''t have to carry it about. It''s a thermal printer which means you don''t need any kind of ink or toner. So basically overtime it''s much much cheaper because (according to wiki) there are heat diodes which color the paper without needing any ink or replacement.

It''s great for business work it''s not a color printer so be careful of that, and although it''s Dpi is only 300 (which is tiny compared to other modern printers) that''s because it uses thermal diodes 300 dpi is completely fine and I would hazard a guess that only some kind of professional photographer would be able to readily tell the difference.

Great for on the spot receipts, invoices and all the kind of stuff.

I was a little apprehensive about ordering this cash register after reading other reviews claiming that it was very difficult to program. This, however, is just not the case. Once I read through the manual it was actually a fairly simple machine to set up. (Also, programming the "register codes" is very simple to do by changing 0''s to 1''s ) The register is working flawlessly and has a nice display that is easy for employees and customers to read. The thermal printer puts out very high quality looking receipts. I would recommend this register to any small business.

i agree with the previous reviewer. i just spent half a day programming it and i only had a few simple items to keep track of. [and i used to work for a software programming company!]

but, once you get the hang of it, think registers within registers and you''ll understand how to program it ... it''s pretty easy. in fact, there''s sort of a swing to it when you start getting really good. ... want a new item? ... plug in a plu. want it to go to a department? "pew, pew" ... and then associate it with a group? more typing "pew, pew, pew" ... next thing you know, you''ve pretty much filled up a whole twenty days of register tape with a bunch of 1''s and zeros. (with some 4,3, and 2''s mixed in for good measure.) ... then make sure to back the time-consuming exercise in dexterity up!

when you''re done, you''ve got a very simple machine for your employees to use and abuse.

make sure to keep the manual around if you want to change anything. there are so many address in that thing, it''s impossible to remember them all and help isn''t helpful because it spits out a few hundred feet of register tape for you with the answer somewhere on it. maybe.

I bought this product primarily because I wanted a FAX/TAD that had a cordless phone. I needed to replace my Panasonic and the store that I went to did not have a Panasonic in stock. The only fax that also had a cordless phone feature was the Brother All-in-One so I decided to give it a try. It was the worst purchase I have made in a very long time. Having an extra printer/copier around was just a bonus to me and in fact it is the only part of the machine that is not a disappointment.

The restrictions on how the TAD can be used make it complicated and ineffective. Callers who leave a message have limited time to do so and that cannot be adjusted. I have had numerous clients have their messages cut off and I think that they find it insulting. When monitoring calls I have to listen to the outgoing message each time. Also during monitoring: if the caller hangs up we have to listen to a dial tone blaring in the room for several minutes. It''s very distracting. If you are in the middle of a project and do not to stop to pick up the phone you will wish you had when you hear this racket. As an added annoyance: If the caller hangs up right away you have to hear the outgoing message on top of the dial tone (both at the same time). It''s hard to imagine why Brother thought that was a good feature.

The outgoing message is limited to 20 seconds for the message center to work properly. I have confirmed with customer service that there also must be a delay of 5 seconds before our outgoing message starts. I have had clients who when confronted the with the five seconds of silence when they first called have assumed that they misdialed and hung up before the message came on. It even happened to me the first time I called my number after installing the Brother MFC-845CW...

Picking up calls from a remote phone is cumbersome enough that we just do not do it. If you are used to calling your phone and typing in your three or four digit code you will not be pleased with this system.

I finally gave up and spent a $114 on another answering machine thinking I could just use the Brother for faxing and copying. I was then told that I cannot bypass the TAD on the Brother but still receive faxes without a number of new restrictions: My new TAD needs to be set to pick up on two rings if the Brother is to work as a fax machine. I am not interested in trying to run to pick up each call within two rings in order to avoid having the answering machine pick up. There is one possible way to get around this: having distinctive ring for faxes. Unfortunately that is not available though my local phone company (I am located in the Virgin Islands).

I am not alone in hating this device. The two other people working in our small office also find it intolerable. Having purchased the Brother All-in-One, and an auxiliary answering device I am still without what I needed in the first place: a TAD/ FAX with a cordless fax.

As for the the great customer service: we did not find them exemplary. The three people we spoke to did speak English (not as a first language but well enough that we were not frustrated) but we did get conflicting information. I guess it is hard to be a great customer service representative for a really bad product.

After a month of frustration I am going to discard it unless I can find someone to give it to that just wants a copier. I''ll get the Panasonic that I originally wanted. I hope I can save someone else from this product.

This is an excellent mfc, I am extremely satisfied with its print, scan, fax, and copy functions as well as the wireless networking. I''m also very happy with the display, which is large and color and very usable. Overall, this MFC works flawlessly! Kudo''s to Brother for this.

Now for the negative info. I was so hoping when I bought this that I could replace my Panasonic KX-TG5110 phone system with this MFC so I could consolidate all my "stuff". Sadly, the phone sound quality is so-so and it has an annoying high frequency hiss in the background of a phone call. Mind you, this is after I adjusted the echo cancellation and played with the various settings. The phone sound quality out of the box was hideous with huge echo''s, the Brother default settings are ridiculous.

After all tuning and adjustment, switching between my Panasonic and the Brother phones during a phone call was night and day. Panasonic wins hands down.

Needless to say, I''m keeping my Panasonic and junking the Brother phone. However, at the price, I still think the Brother MFC is a high value and high quality product.

Want Brother MFC-845cw Color Photo Inkjet Flatbed All-in-One with 5.8GHz Cordless Handset Discount?

I''m with all who praise the functions of MFC-845CW. I bought mine in November 2006.

The only thing that bothers me is that my color printer cartridges became empty sooner than I expected. I rarely used them, at least I thought so. I was presented with slide instructions on the display about how to replace the cartridge and basically forced to do it. Any attempts to print another single page in black ink were prevented. That''s very limiting in my opinion. My black cartridge was still available but that didn''t matter. The reason I mention this is that I didn''t have that type of obstacles with my HP printer. I was allowed to print just in black.

The Brother''s manual states that the cartridges lasts Black ~500 pages and Color ~400 pages. Well, I haven''t printed as many pages; 100 the most. After about 6 months I started noticing decreased level of the color ink cartridges on the display. I was surprised because what I printed was mostly a black text. Earlier I also made appropriate adjustment in printer settings just for that purpose (Grayscale). Yet, I assume those cartridges were used for my prints instead of the black one because the latter was used very little. And there is no setting available to choose just the black ink cartridge for printing.

The manual also says that every time you turn the device ON, the cartridges perform self cleaning. If you leave it ON all the time, they will periodically clean themselves using "very little ink". I''ve heard that whining sound on many occasions.

Anyway, my impression is that maybe the routine of self cleaning cartridges used more ink than my printing. That''s why I run out of it after six months and what worse was prevented from using the printer all together. I hope it helps.

i just bought this mfc 2 days ago i love it ,it has everything you need works perfectly faxing copying priting pics is awsome love the network capablity and not to mention the wireless phone set w/answer machine.

i bought this to replace an old hp printer and a dust collecting canon scanner i looked @ hp product but i couldn''t find any thing w/the same functions at least not for about the same price the closest thing from hp was about $150 more i bought mine @ office depot about the same price @amazon but office depot offer a mail in rebate (hopefully i''ll get it)

the only part about this that kindda bugged me was set up w/wireless network & 3 pc''sit just took a while really the main issue was my router not the mfc.

if you are looking for a all in one printer you can not go wrong with this one not to mention ink is cheaper than hp''s.i give brother 5 shiny stars.

I came across this item researching ink-jet tranparencies. Didn''t really look into it so it''s basically my fault. Just be aware that using this with ink-jets (at least of the Canon variety) will lead to a smearing of the print.

On this occasion I didn''t mind as I was going for an arty feel but in more buttoned-down environments there might be an issue.
