I am a photographer & have made all my own cards (Christmas & otherwise) for many years. Recently however, it has not been easy finding quality 11 X 8.5 double-sided photo paper with which to do so. This paper is superb, and the ability to use icc profiles in photoshop for most Epson Printers (used with 2200 & 3880) makes it a dream. Highly recommended!

Bought this printer at Costco. Held on to the box and waited to write the review because of issues with the HP 7510 breaking down. We have had and have used the 7515 for over 3 months now without any issue. Super easy to set up; we were printing off of all our devices in under an hour. Quality is very good for an inkjet. Photo quality was a big surprise. We have had not issues with durability. I would recommend this printer, especially with the discounts Costco offers.

Watch out for the fax capability. It does not have a phone line, so your existing fax number is no longer the one the printer uses. You have to go to efax (a 3d party), register your printer and get a fax number that is different than your original fax number. Now everyone who had your old fax number no longer has your fax number. When people send you a fax, efax sends it to your email, not directly to the printer. The printer does fax as claimed, but only after you have met a number of conditions, none of which you have much control over.

the printer does everything else just great, but the fax thing was just too many hoops to jump through.

Some reviewers of this product criticize its eFax feature which does not use the traditional land phone line of yesteryears. I did some reading about it and find that EFax is actually a great idea for the following reasons:

1) You get a fax-only telephone number that allows other people to fax you. So, you don''t get the usual conflict between a fax call and voice call, or answering machine in a shared line. Additionally, for people who don''t have a land-line phone anymore, they can still get their faxes.

2) I believe sending or receiving 20 pages per month is free. For most home uses, that is plenty of fax pages per month. For more pages, you have to subscribe to a service.

3) You can get your faxes emailed to you. That is great idea too. In fact, most people these days just scan a document and send the scanned pages through email instead of faxing paper-wasting hard copy method.

So, I would put eFax in the Pros column of this product.

Yes, it says wireless on the box! This is the best printer we ever had. No kidding! I am on my lap top downstairs and it prints upstairs. Color is unbelievably beautiful. Not only does it print fast but is very quiet.

It has so many features. My sister first purchased one and we were so impressed we bought one.

After a few days of minimal usage, this printer exhibited a completely erroneous and unrecoverable paper jam. There never was any real paper jam in the first place, which made the problem so frustrating. My suspicion is that a sensor shook loose or got jammed during the startup process. HP tech support comments along with blog site entries allude to a known but not fully characterized problem that creates such false paper jam errors. These sources, including HP telephone support, suggest the only option is to return the printer in some cases.

Years of owning higher-end HP multifunction printers (five generations) have giving me experience with addressing obscure software errors and correcting hard-to-reach paper jams behind the duplex tray. After trying every imaginable corrective action, we gave up and returned this printer to Costco.

I am writing this in July 2008 I bought the HP j6450 AIO printer and installed it on my imac. The CD that came with the printer did not support OS X version 10.5! But it was not obvious until i tried to install it and it would not work. So after some time I went to the HP site and sure enough there was a download for OS X 10.5 I did it and the printer installed with no problems and wireless works great as do all features. Just be sure to check your OS version and get the correct drivers!

The HP website doesn''t make this very clear but their online/phone support is very helpful.

Here is my understanding of difference between these two printer models:

The 6450

Can store 110 speed dial/fax numbers

Can scale from 50-200% in 1% increments

Is sold with a USB cable

Is usally sold via club stores

The 6480

Can store 100 speed dial/fax numbers

Can scale from 25-400% in 1% increments

Is sold without a USB cable

* Both models support duplex (2-sided) printing

I purchased this multifunction printer to replace another HP multifunction printer that had failed. In the process of setting this up, I came to realize that the installation CD that came with it -along with HP''s installation instructions -are to be avoided at all costs. Instead, I''d follow Chong Yip''s set-up suggestions for PC''s running Vista. See his review under Amazon''s product: HP Officejet J6480. Without his tips, or my subsequent adjustments (see my comment that follows his review), I would surely have returned this machine. It has many useful features, especially its wireless networking capabilities, but HP''s convoluted directions and accompanying bloatware diminish its value. That''s why I gave it 4 stars -for the steep learning curve I had to climb in order to get it to work. Otherwise, it''s a winner.

Just purchased the printer at Sam''s Club. The setup for use as a wireless network printer was easy. Color prints, color copies and scans are all high quality and relatively speedy.

Setting up wireless connections to two different laptops was quick and easy with this HP Officejet J6450! After following the illustrated steps to unpack and plug in the printer, I ran the CD-install on two different laptops -one running Windows XP, and the other running Windows Vista. Simple, automatic, flawless, perfect! I was, to be honest, pleasantly surprised! No techno skills required!

This is not a high end printer (the only reason I wouldn''t bestow 5 stars), but it''s perfect for our kitchen, and so practical for quick handy printing of anything from wherever we are around the house. Fax, copy, scan, no problem!

Brother MFC-8500 Laser Multifunction Center

Brother MFC-8500 Laser Multifunction Center
  • All-in-one fax, laser printer, copier, scanner
  • Prints and copies up to 15 ppm
  • 30-page auto document feeder for fax
  • Scans up to 9,600 dpi, prints 600 dpi
  • Parallel and USB interfaces, PC and Mac compatible

The truth is that a "really good fax" will separate you from about a thousand of your beloved George Washingtons; they don''t sell them at places where most of us shop. For the average SOHO buyer the options in Laser multi functions are limited at best. This is my fifth printer and second multi function through the years, my first Brother product. I am a retired Network Engineer and I have personally laid hands on some of HPs biggest and badest printers, lets just say I have been around the block.

I bought the MFC 4800 and a Panasonic and returned both within three weeks because of misfeeds; so far the 8500 has not skipped a beat yet. Is it fast? Yes, very fast and the print quality is as good as it gets. Notable differences from the 4800; prints faster, scans faster, copies more clearly, has a larger capacity sheet feeder, has one touch faxing, is network capable, holds more paper, can add another 250 sheet paper tray, has a larger LCD, and ships with a full toner instead of a starter. The warranty may also be better. Also the feed mechanism is better than the 4800 thus eliminating misfeeds. The 8500 will suck up your 20-page fax faster than you can say, "I''m a nine to five slave", spit it out, and let you get back to playing solitaire while it takes care of business.

For those of us who own real office equipment the 8500 feels light and flimsy but remember it is only four hundred street price, you get what you pay for. I like the fact that it goes silent in sleep mode, that''s good. The dedicated left and right arrow keys make programming the unit such a snap that even a CEO can do it. For support ask for a supervisor when you call Brother, the front line people don''t know how to turn it on much less trouble shoot it. The manual is horribly lacking, it will do more than the manual tells you it will and Brothers web site about using the online manual is wrong, it is not any better. If you have trouble with the software and want to just install the drivers they are on the CD. Use the Distinctive Ring feature from your phone company if you don''t have a dedicated line but be sure to read the manual to set up the unit.

In my epinion this is a great unit, full of features at an entry-level price. It''s a laser and remember a few years ago these things did not even exist yet so we are lucky just to have them at all. Stay away from ink jets, they are loud, slow, messy, very expensive, and just don''t belong in a real office setting. Go for the high capacity toner, for ten more bucks you get twice the toner, it''s a no brainer and it gives you about a penny a page printing cost. Get the 8500, take it home, love it and it will love you back but watch the return date on your receipt in case you want to file for divorce but I doubt that will happen, this is one sexy, snappy little baby....

I have owned this printer about 2 months now, and could not be happier. It is silent when not in operation, warm-up is only 2-3 seconds, and a single sheet pops out in seconds. Have done print jobs as large as 300 pages or so, and the printer really does crank them at 10-12 pages/minute. Print quality is excellent. Mac OS 10.1 works great with the printer; kudos to Brother for staying up-to-date. Don''t know about long-term durability, but seems solid enough. The Fax works fine. Can''t go wrong at this price.

I really hesitated before purchasing this Multifunction, as I had a low-end Brother fax years ago and wasn''t thrilled with it. Alas I wanted a laser based multi-function, and at anywhere near the ($$$) price point, Brother''s currently the only game in town.

While the mechanics and electronics of the unit seem reasonable, the print speed fast, and the unit very quiet when not in use, the software and documentation just flat-out stinks... The installation process was buggy, and even when finally installed, the "tools" they give you to scan, print, fax, copy and manage the printer from your PC (as opposed the printers front panel) are primitive, lacking any help screens, buggy, slow, and do not play well with other PC applications. Brother, develop some real specifications for what this software needs to do as well as looking at how other vendors create a polished user interface, then hire (or outsource) a good development team to complete these tasks!

Till then... the 8500 get''s returned and I''ll buy another HP and live with the slightly higher cost, slightly slower ink-jet engine.

What a major improvement after switching from my HP OfficeJet piece of junk! I realize this is an apples to oranges comparison, but I was ready to throw that HP in the street and run it over. I''ve been using this machine for nearly 8 months. It is a true workhorse and I am very pleased with performance. Faxes, copies and prints very quickly. Scanning feature is pretty good, too. Help via email was ok, but not stellar. My only reason for giving this machine 4 stars and not 5 is that I have a hard time believing I''m really getting 6000 pages with its larger toner drum. Then again, some of the stuff I print and copy is hardly standard text. Overall--a great performing machine and I highly recommend it.

i bought this this multifunction center for my new medical practice...i''ve had it for seven months now with over 3000+ trouble-free pages thus far...i''m quite pleased with this product...well worth the money for home use or small business.

I purchased one of these printers as a compliment to my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W80. To my surprise and delight the photos that this unit generates are equal to or superior to those I order from the corner drug store. I was REALLY impressed by the quickness of and the quality that it produces. Even more so, the prints are waterproof as the unit applies a laminated surface on the finished photo.

I have, up to now been disappointed with ink jet printers and glossy paper results for photos but with this Sony DPP-FP90, those days are gone! If you''re looking for a photo printer and you own a Sony cyber-Shot camera, look no further! GET THIS PRINTER! I chose to get the 90 because of the larger LCD screen and I''m kinda glad I did. I read many reviews for this item and a lot mentioned prints in about 57 seconds but when I received my own I was more then happy with the 40 Sec prints and great quality of the photos.

I just received this photo printer as a gift through my company, and was very hesitant at first because it was a SONY product. Since I was looking to purchase a photo printer in the near future I decided to give it a try.

The printer is very intuitive and easy to use. Just plug it in, insert your ink cassette, paper, and your SD memory card, select your picture and you are ready to print. If you want to print through your computer, just plug in the USB cable and you can print through the computer.

The print quality is superb and looks just like a picture you would get from any store.

If you need a little photo printer this would be the one I would get. Maybe I will change my opinion aout SONY after all.

While I don''t particularly find much use for most of HP''s premium paper line, their glossy papers offer a sufficiently distinct printing experience that one can easily find a use for them. They make excellent paper for final copies of work you intend to display, or even for stuff you merely intend to archive.

This glossy, however, is not particularly recommendable because of its low value-for-money. Only ten sheets are available here. For virtually the same price you can get their professional brochure & flyer paper, which is double-sided and comes in a 50-pack. I therefore can''t see an economic rationale to buying this otherwise excellent paper. Look for HP product number C6817A instead.

I have had this printer now for a couple of weeks and it does absolutely everything that I need a printer to do while using it in my in-home office. It is connected via ethernet to five different computers and it worked first time with every one of the computers without a single problem. The only reason I make a big deal out of this is that compared to the major #@&%* software problems I had with my old HP L7590, the Lexmark printer is a dream come true. I really don''t know if this printer is the best at printing, or scanning, or faxing, or copying, but for my money it''s the best you can find because it works without any headaches! [We have had the printer now for over 4 months. It gets used for printing and copying nearly every day. After printing thousands of pages, I am only aware of it jamming once. I actually had to go online to find out how to open the printer to clear the paper jam. My wife and I still definitely rate the printer at five stars!]

I''m very happy with the quality, functionality, speed, and per-page-costs of this printer Lexmark OfficeEdge Pro4000C Color Photo Printer with Copier and Fax. I learned about it from Consumer Reports which gave it a very high rating (just below a Canon all-in-one that costs about twice as much per page). The Lexmark OfficeEdgePro4000 does duplex printing very well (no paper jams so far) and can print from an iPad. It faxes and scans multiple pages well using the sheet feeder. The wifi also works well for multiple users from around a house or office.

It can be a little complicated to set up the wifi and faxing and scanning directly from your computer. I needed help from Lexmark with the set-up of these things but since then everything has been working fine. The main negative is tech support which can be very difficult to reach. However there is a solution-if you can''t reach tech support in a timely way by telephone, email LxkListens at Lexmark.com and a Lexmark Customer Advocate should be able to assist you. I had fantastic help from a Lexmark Customer Advocate who scheduled phone appointments with me, answered all my questions, and solved my set-up problems.

This is a great small office/home computer, by far the best I have ever owned. It prints graphics well. However it is not designed to be a high quality photo printer. While it can print photos, you will be far better off with a dedicated photo printer. You could also buy a Canon all-in-one but you will be increasing your operating costs significantly.

My final suggestion is that you shop around, including checking the cost of buying direct from Lexmark. The price has fallen and risen substantially in the past two months. However the purchase price will be dwarfed in the long run by the total of your per page printing costs. This printer starts with extremely low costs per page and allows you to save more by printing in black and white, draft, and duplex modes. I doubt that you will be able to find another printer of this quality and functionality that will be nearly as affordable to operate.

The printer is excellent, but can''t get it hooked up to wireless. Spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone and was told at the end of the phone call I had to get a new router, even though mine was only a few months old. I have been wanting to switch to Comcast anyway, so I had them come to the house and install the Internet and router. Still no luck. I don''t think anyone can hook up to the wireless ( I Googled it) which is a bummer because that is one of the reasons I bought the thing.

This thing is amazing. In an attempt to become organized I have been trying out new software and methods lately. After some research I decided to give this little gizmo a try. I figured if I hated it I could always return it. No such chance! I''m in love with this thing.

Anyway here it goes.... This thing slices, it dices, it does it all. It''s so easy to learn that anyone can get the hang of it.

It has three sections. One for receipts, one for ''documents'' and one for business cards. Each section lets me create folders. I created folders like ''Ty''s Tax Write-offs'' and ''Electronics'' and ''Home Improvement'' in the receipts section.

I click on a ''Folder'' and place the receipt in the scanner and hit scan. It pulls the receipt through. It recognizes over 1500 major retailers like Best Buy, Target, etc. If it doesn''t recognize it, you type in the business name. Here''s a cool feature; the next time you scan a receipt from that company the thing recognizes the receipt and names it by the correct business.

It picks out the tax, the total amount on the receipt and then reads all the remaining text and it indexes it.

This means that if I bought my ipod and scanned it I can type in ''ipod'' or ''apple'' and it finds the correct receipt. It''s awesome. I have started scanning in all of our receipts past and present. Before we visited our accountant I scanned in all of our tax write-offs and ran a report on numbers.

You can click on a particular receipt and it brings up a copy of it. You can print it, pdf it, etc.

You can search by category, business name, amounts, anything.

The documents section is handy too. I''m scanning in all our loan documents, home documents, legal documents, extended warranty information, etc.

The program is amazing and in my opinion that is really what you''re paying for is the program. The scanner is pretty great too though. It pulls through receipts of any size and shape with little problem.

Essentially what you''re getting is an amazing high tech filing cabinet for $200.

To those that gave it low ratings... it''s technology. No it''s not perfect, but it''s pretty darned nice for the price. I scanned in probably 60 receipts in the first hour and I was just learning how to use it. I would have spent that much time just filing them in a filing cabinet. I had few problems and overall it recognized probably 85% of the vendors and prices correctly.

I''ve had a NeatReceipts machine for awhile, and it has become an office tool I wonder how I lived without for so many years. It''s great for tax records, expense reports, all that stuff, but the biggest difference it''s made in my life is just GETTING RID OF THE PAPER! I had piles all over my desk for years. Cab receipts, travel receipts, charitable donation receipts, etc. Not just sitting on top of the desk, but in files and folders all over the place. When it came time to do the taxes, or do the accounting, sometimes I could find what I was looking for, sometimes I couldn''t. The NeatReceipts changed all that. Now I just scan the piece of paper in, put it in the right file on my computer (or even in a Misc file, because it''s easy to search and find later). I back up my computer regularly, so I never worry about losing the important data to back up my financial paperwork. And I''ve moved from a desk with big file drawers to basically a computer drawer and a couple of shelves.

I upgraded to the new 3.0 NeatReceipts because I figured they''ve known what they''re doing so far, so I tried the new one. My favorite thing about it is the ability to produce pdfs easily. And I can scan in a pdf and edit the text. I was only able to do that previously by taking it to my brother in law and having him scan it and use some utility he bought for his machine. I haven''t tried all the new stuff yet because I haven''t gone through tax season yet, which is when my NeatReceipts really gets a workout. But the new version is much more searchable like when I was looking for an Embassy Suites receipt the other day and could search on "Embassy Suites" and find it.

I highly recommend the NeatReceipts, and even more, I recommend enjoying throwing away all that paper.

I have been using the Neat Receipts product since its first release and with each subsequent release I can only say it just keeps getting better. The new scanner hardware is a great improvement on the earlier model and the changes to the database engine has made the day to day performance of the application rock solid. Though the OCR accuracy is not 100% it comes damn close considering the variety of receipt layouts and quality that I feed it. It does a superb job of recognizing and tagging the main data elements in a receipt and ignoring the individual line item amounts and sub-totals. It also does a great job of recognizing the form of payment and allowing the user to tie the receipt to a cash account or a particular credit card.

The software does have occasional difficulty with graphic logos on the receipts but the underlying intelligence will pick up the vendor name if it is somewhere else on the receipt. If there is no alternative to the graphic the field is left blank and highlighted. Since the image of the receipt is right next to the data it is a simple matter of reviewing and updating this field. The Neat Receipts software remembers vendors once they have been entered, so this edit is often as simple as entering the first few characters of the name and Neat Receipts will fill in the rest.

I use the product almost entirely for managing paper receipts for tax purposes. My accountant loves the fact that I no longer hand him a box of loose receipts. I now provide him with a printout of the receipts fully categorized. This alone has been worth the cost of the product many times over.

In addition to receipt scanning the application does a great job of scanning and managing business cards. In this area it is definately on par with other dedicated products that exist and is better than most.

Though document management is available as a feature of the product it is not the primary focus. The dpi quality of the scanner is sufficient to keep usable images of scanned documents and the software does a good job of categorizing and managing them. The dpi is also not so high that it creates a burden on processing overhead and storage that would come with a higher dpi.

I would highly recommend this product. There is nothing else out there that comes close to the features and sophistication of the Neat Receipts application.

I purchased this product roughly 1 month ago; had a need to scan documents, receipts, business cards. Since I travel on business, the portability came in quite handy. (Great idea for a product for the typical road warrior) Here''s some overall Good points & suggestions for improvements.

The Good:

Hardware:

Very portable, light weight, easy to hook up, uses a very common interface, comes with a easy travel pack, doesn''t take up too much space on the desk, comes with a nice little stand & a wall mounting option; and a hidden little compartment to hide the soft carrying case.

Software:

Intuitive interface, easy to install, clear instructions, works well for a small scanner, scans in color!!, has OCR, scans multiple forms of documents (does what it advertises)

Suggested Improvements: (ranked from highest need to lowest)

Hardware:

1) USB cable doesn''t fit in the soft travel bag. Can you make it bigger or with a couple of velcro straps to carry the USB cable. As anyone who travels knows, if it isn''t packed together, it''ll get lost, or tangled in the , left in the hotel room.

2) Consider changing from USB B type to Mini USB. The hardware states it runs on 5V, 500mA; so it doesn''t seem to me that it needed the USB type B connection. Does it really use that much power to run a scanner? These days with many cell phones, PDAs, Blackberries, and digital cameras all using the mini-USB cable; the USB type B cable is less commonly used. (Personal opinion) From looking at the use of it, it seems the USB is mostly used as a data transmission line.

3) Cable too stiff, too long; and get rid of that toroidal ferrite thing hanging on the end of the USB type B cable. It''s too big & bulky. Stiff cables makes it harder to sit the scanner flat on the table. Maybe the engineers who designed this decided the set length USB is cheaper; but in use, I would think a shorter USB cable doesn''t get in the way and would work better.

4) Other minor misc issues: change the USB cable color to black, it will look better as the cable jacket wears, scuffed and discolored. Consider making a marking on the stand more intuitive because the scanner only sits in the stand one way.

5) That hardshell hardware case is quite nice, I just wish you would have put a little marketing flyer inside the original box to let me know the hardshell hardware case was available.

Software:

1) This software takes forever to open. You click on the icon and it takes about 15-30 seconds before the opening screen even pops up on the screen. Next to Adobe Acrobat; this is the longest loading software program. ...and functionally it shouldn''t be that slow should it?

2) Memory Usage is too big. Because it took so long to open, I started opening the Windows Task Manager just to see if the program is running or not. I have noticed it takes quite surprizingly a large amount of memory. Why is this software such a memory hog? (Again: I''m using Version 3, SP1)

3) Can you incorporate a drag and drop feature into the various cells of the business card & receipts section of the software program? I understand OCR is difficult to implement correctly; I would not mind correcting it if I didn''t have to retype all the correctly scanned words and just putting it in the correct data cell. This would make things much more intuitive and easier to work with. This same drag & drop feature would work nicely if you could allow scanned files to move from one section to another. [receipts section/Documents section/Business cards section] I frequently don''t remember to click on the right category before it''s scanned.

4) Can you put in the opening screen a load % progress bar so it''s more intuitive how long before the program is up and running?

5) Maybe there''s a preset I''ve not clicked on, but does it always start with the receipts section? ...can you make it use the last setting I left with when I closed the program last time or make it a preference setting option?

6) Perhaps this might have something to do with memory usage; but can you make the default image file format JPG instead of BMP? Bitmap images are generally really big for the resolution you get.

7) If possible, can you change the blinking LED setting on the scanner blink until the image is completely transferred to the PC? Being a portable device, similar to a digital camera, it would be nice if there was something telling me not to unplug the thing before the image finished transfered.

8) I''ve noticed there''s a greater frequency of software crashing when the USB cable is hooked into the USB hub instead of the USB port on the PC/Laptop. Is this a software stability issue?

9) simple image editing. This is a low priority software improvement suggestion, but it would be nice if there was a way to allow me to do some simple image cropping or rotating so the image size is smaller. I noticed frequently I''m scanning in other things on the paper I''m not interested in. It would be nice if I could crop it out so it doesn''t take up extra memory space.

Overall, please don''t let my comments reflect negatively on the product. It''s a great product idea...I think the software could improve greatly. This should not prevent me from buying the product since software can easily be upgraded via the internet. Restating this another way: Product Idea: 5 stars. Software implementation: 1 or 2 stars.

thanks,

Will

I bought one of these and returned it after a day or two of experimentation. Later, I reconsidered. After better understanding the product''s capabilities vs my expectations, I repurchased. I think many people misunderstand (as I did) the challenges involved in scanning, analyzing, and parsing receipts. Ever run across a receipt that took you some time to figure out??

This scanner is a compact sheet-fed scanner, and saves images in PDF or JPEG formats. Up to 600 dpi. It''s handy, portable (11 ounce) and convenient to keep in a desk drawer, brief case, etc. Being able to scan a document to PDF anywhere (without AC power) can be very useful.

But it''s the software component that performs OCR and attempts to decipher the text, graphics, smudges, wrinkles, and other artifacts. Then the program populates a simple database with its best interpretation of the receipt data. No, it is not perfect. But as you correct entries, the software adapts and recognizes the same receipt format.

My only disappointment which is why I returned the product the first time is the software will not read and import data from PDF or email receipts. (It does read receipts in graphic formats like JPG, BMP, GIF, etc.) They''re working on it... Until then I can only give 4 stars.

My experience with customer support has been extremely positive and productive. Jenn Choi answers emails and user forums promtptly and professionally. She is amazingly considerate, patient, and polite given some of the rather obtuse words and language she receives. From my perspective, the staff was always prompt and forthright with the product''s limitations and problems, and offered recommendations. I encourage the marketing department to do a better job of letting people know of the software''s limitations ahead of the purchase so they may check their expectations and avoid ''buyer remorse'' situations. For example, right on the box it should say "Although the Scanalizer will create PDF output files from scanned documents, at this time we do not support the import of PDF files directly. We are working on it!"

Despite a lot of searching I have not found another product that does what this package does. Even with the low end 70% accuracy rate (mine was always much better), that''s still 70% less transcription for me to do. During testing, I scanned receipts on my other scanners and used much more sophisticated (and expensive) OCR programs, but the recognition rate just was not that much better. But none of those programs could also analyze the result and say "Hmmmm... this looks like sales tax, let''s put it in the TAX column. And this looks like a store name, so lets put that in the STORE field." Also remember, a graphic image of the receipt is saved and can be printed out if you ever need hard copy. When you highlight an entry in the database, the corresponding image is displayed in a view window. Database backup & restore utility is included so you can protect your work and records. If you forget to backup, the software will provide periodic reminders via pop-up window (you can configure as needed). You can export to many different file formats and financial apps.

As I sit typing this out, I look around my home office and count five (!) scanners. Each has its own strengths and purpose (or else it would be gone). None of the others do what the Scanalizer and its software can do. But I still look forward to being able to have Scanalizer read and interpret all my exisitng PDF and email receipts into its database.

Anyone contemplating purchase: Yes, do read reviews on Amazon.Com, Buy.Com, the magazines, etc. But also go to the company website www.neatreceipts.com and check out the user forums to see if it will meet your expectations.

(No , I do not work for or have ANY relationship with NEATRECIEPTS other than the purchase of a Scanalizer.)

Dell Color Laser Printer 1320c

Dell Color Laser Printer 1320c
  • Offers print speeds of up to 16 pages per minute in black (actual print speed will vary with use)
  • Delivers professional quality prints with up to 600 x 600 dpi resolution
  • Offers the Dell Toner Management System software to let you to easily manage supplies
  • Includes Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black Cartridges (1000 page yield1)

We''ve had this printer for over a year. We are moderate home users, mostly home projects and school reports maybe 500 pages a month or so. The usual issues with expensive toner cartridges -we''ve gone through the starter set plus one additional set of cartridges. Generally haven''t had any jamming problems and have had very good print quality. BUT we use a lot of special paper like label sheets, card sheets, colored paper, etc. more expensive paper that you don''t want to leave in the main paper tray -I tend to use the single sheet feed slot a lot. And the single-sheet feed on the Dell 1320c is completely useless. It is incapable of getting the paper to feed properly, no matter how carefully you position the paper in the slot, no matter how hard you work to "help" the paper feed straight. I don''t think I ever even tried envelopes. I really don''t understand how, after all these years, correct paper feeding is still "rocket science" for printer manufacturers. Anyway, basically I end up putting everything into the paper tray and working hard not to forget to take out any sheets I didn''t use. One little item you have to know when doing this -the paper tray feeds from the front on this machine, not the back.

After years of having to replace cartridge after cartridge in my old deskjet, I decided to replace it with a printer that didn''t have that problem, while at the same time producing high-quality prints at an effective rate of speed. That led me to the Dell 1320c. Am I ever glad that this is the printer I bought!

Let me tell you, it''s hands down the best personal-use printer I have ever owned. The color print quality is as good as anything you''ll find--at least as good as your neighborhood Kinko''s, maybe better. The cartridge capacity is pretty good, but this isn''t a printer designed for spitting out thousands of pages a day. However, for a personal or home office use, it''s going to be hard to beat a printer that does all this, rarely breaks down, and almost never has any hardware glitches that plague some cheaper models.

It''s only real drawback is its size: at more than a foot in each dimension, it doesn''t do well ask a desk printer.

So, in summary, if you need a printer that''s quite a bang for just a few bucks, the 1320c may be just what you''re looking for.

Purchased this one in Nov ''10 after a lot of research and angst before finally hitting the "BUY" button. I must say that I am very impressed with this baby so far. It is what it is a basic color laser print. Not a lot of fancy stuff to get in the way or broke. Just sits there all quiet and asleep until it is called into action. Whines a wee-bit when printing but still quieter than my ink-jets. Not the fastest kid on the block (still pretty decent though); but take one look at that fabulous output and then you''ll be asking yourself "...how did I ever make do without this baby before now??"

It was a piece of cake to set up. There is not a display to walk you through the setup options, but there is really nothing to do if you are connecting directly to your PC/MAC. Comes with the Mac driver disk so once that is loaded you just need to ID it in your printer preferences (Google for mac setup how-to), point to the installed driver and BOOM, there it is. Setting it up on a network is even easier (yes, it is networkable!! SWEET!), just connect it (sorry, wired only, not wireless) and restart; hold down the print button for a couple of secs, look on the config page that is printed, find the assigned IP, set it up using LPD and away you go! Windows 7 is even easier!!

I''ve had a Lexmark e310 for about 6 years and sadly, it finally started to die (paper pickup mechanism). I''ve had/have Epson, HP and Canon ink-jets and in my humble opinion -they are ALL way up there on the suck-o-meter. Unless of course you enjoy get your blood sucked out of you on a daily basis through your wallet! Epson and Canon are the worst they seem to want to go through a "Cleaning cycle" at least once a day. Every time I hear them do that all I can think is "Good-bye money..."

I have three in college and they print reports and papers like there is no tomorrow (3-4 reams of paper a semester). I keep tabs on toner level in the web-based management console and so far it still shows all of the cartridges are still full. I set them up to print in draft mode and the output in B/W still looks really good. Color output is noticeably weaker in draft mode but definitely passable. A quick switch to HQ mode and the color output POPs!!! We have Dell printers at work and they seem to hold up real nice under moderate to heavy work loads so I am optimistic for this baby.

One thing not mentioned anywhere is that after 20,000 pages the print head device (PHD) will need replaced. The PHD is a $180 part that can be very difficult to find. This is marketed as a good printer for a small office, but it''s just consumer grade junk. Most consumers will never hit 20,000 pages and notice the expensive parts replacements.

Instead of fixing mine I will be throwing it away and buying a Xerox Phaser.

I recently purchased this printer and found it will not feed anything satisfactorily through the envelope feeder. When I contacted Dell Support (they are wonderful), I was told this: "When printing envelopes on this printer, there is not way to completely remove the wrinkles. The way the paper path is in this printer, it causes an air pocket to be created and then when the fuser moves through the fuser, that causes the wrinkles to be created." I also had to have a workaround for Windows 7 to set up a custom paper size, but Dell Support was able to help me with that.
