I''m no expert with computers so if I''m able to get started easily anyone can. The easy start instructions got me up and running in no time without any assistance from my more computer literate sons. The HP7760 accepts a variety of memory cards which is helpful in a family that boasts three digital cameras with three different memory cards. The small screen that is on the printer allows the user to view the images without a computer. The printer can view, crop, rotate, enlarge, and select the size and quantity of prints without computer assistance. The printing time was a tad slow but the quality was as good as any professional digital prints I''ve purchased. It''s ''almost'' as good as 35mm.

The paper tray has a slot for 4x6 paper making it easy to print copies of photos without wasting expensive larger size photo paper. One minor annoyance is the requirement for changing print cartridges to print black and white, photos or typed material, so if this is your only printer you''ll be changing cartridges frequently. A convenient little device for protecting and storing removed cartridges mitigates this problem slightly but one extra cartridge slot would have been far superior.

If you want to go beyond the basic editing available through the printer itself it is simple to install the software that is included and to attach to your computer using an usb cable that is not included.

All in all I''m very happy with this new printer.

My husband and I went to Aruba on our honeymoon with our new digital camera. After shopping around for approximately a month, we decided to buy the HP7760 mainly because of the 1.8" LCD screen no computer necessary.

The guy at Best Buy told me I needed a USB cable, which is true, but it is not necessary unless you are printing from your computer. He tried to sell me a $30 one; I went to Walmart the next day and got one on clearance for $12.

The printing is absolutely wonderful! The colors and hues are so rich, it looks like you are there in person. The blue sky is as blue on the picture as it was in person! Same with all the other colors! I have not run into any problems with little stars or black lines appearing on my pictures, and since I installed it about two hours ago, I have printed more than 50 4x6 prints using the HP Premium Photo Plus glossy paper. The prints are instantly smudge-proof, but take longer time to dry if you want to put them in an album (especially the ones with the dark colors). I feel the quality is equal to that os lab processed prints. I took a picture of the sunset one day and the oranges and reds just jump off the picture at you.

I also haven''t had any problems with any paper jams or "ink failed error" as some other reviewers have complained. The tray can only hold 20 4x6 cards at a time, so don''t overload it and you''ll be fine.

I also liked that it came with two ink cartridges, one color and one photo. After 50-something pictures, the cartridges are still going strong. I also bought a black cartridge and color cartridge (a combo pack at Best Buy for its sale price of $39.74, regularly $53) and a gray photo ink cartridge along with a second photo cartridge. In addition I bought the HP plus glossy and matte paper (haven''t used the matte yet)

One word of advice (and it tells you this in the manual): When you place the paper in the 4x6 tray, make sure the side you''re printing on is down and the perforated edge is toward you. I made the mistake of putting the paper in backward and had a couple prints come out with a white stripe on the end where the perforated edge should have been.

This printer is great for the price and ease of use! No complaints whatsoever!

I just received the 7760 in the mail today.

I had to run to Walmart because I forgot to order the USB printer cable. After I hooked the printer up to the computer which took about 10 minutes ( includes the unpacking of the printer ). I took out all the pictures that I had and WOW the quality is unheard off. I mean the pictures are just so clear and pure quality. The printer pretty much started on it''s own.

Just plug everything and put the disk that came with it and It does everything on it''s own. Ohhh and then I tried photo paper.

Ohhh man it just got better from there.

This is an outstanding printer. Aside from doing an excellent job with photos, it also functions extremely well as an all-purpose printer, running the gamut from high-quality photo printing to everyday correspondence and web page printing.

Right after I bought this, my 5-year old laser died, so I started using the 7760 as a temporary all-purpose printer. I was so impressed, I decided against buying another laser printer. The "fast draft mode" provides nice quality for everyday document and web page printing; very sharp for black & white, but just a bit lighter than normal mode, and is far better than draft mode on Epsons. There is also a "Fast Normal" mode that looks near perfect, yet provides some ink savings. Both modes print text and graphics far more quickly than earlier models, narrowing the gap against laser printers dramatically. Like all good-quality photo printers, it runs through ink quickly at the highest photo settings. But for everyday use in "Fast Draft" and "Fast Normal" modes, I''m satisfied with the ink economy.

I have had this printer for 10 months, use nearly everyday, and have never experienced any of the problems noted by other reviewers. I use only with a Dell desktop PC and IBM Thinkpad, so cannot speak to its viability as a standalone photo printer. I love having only one printer, as I never thought that a single printer could run the gamut from high quality photos to economical everyday use---let alone at this price. I''ve recommended this printer to others time and again, and I''d buy it again in a minute.

UPDATE: Regarding some of the other more recent negative comments: I''ve had this printer for nearly 2 years now, and my photos have not faded at all. To get these results, its important to use genuine HP ink (and switching out the black #56 cartridge for the Photo #58 cartridge when printing photos) and PREMIUM photo papers. I have used HP Premium, HP Premium Plus, and the premium Kodak photo paper available at Costco; the HP Premium Plus gives slightly better results). Generic ink + cheap paper = bad results. Also, when printing photos, one needs to adjust the print quality settings to "best". Common sense info straight out of the user guide!

12/4/2007 update this printer is still going strong after almost 4 years! Came here looking for one for a friend. Photo quality is comparable to the Canon MP530 I use at the office. And older model means less expensive ink in larger cartridges that don''t run out every month.

10/26/2010 UPDATE still working flawlessly, came here again looking for a refurb to have as backup whenever this one dies. Never thought it would last this long. Absolutely phenomenal printer, all my printed photos still look good as new with the Premium Plus paper. And this ink cartridge is so large compared to newer ones, a terrific deal. Have it on a print server now and works great with that too. Windows 7 even has updated drivers for it, nice touch by hp in continuing to support a printer introduced in 2003!

I just bought this printer & LOVE it! I am very pleased with the quality of pictures it produces. I printed out some family pictures & framed them my family was in awe that I printed them from my home printer! I love the LCD display & the simplicity of the operation. Highly recommended by me!

I learned the hard way that my Canon printer needs TWO black ink cartridges -226 BK and 225 PGBK. Apparently, one black (226) is used exclusively for images, and one (225) exclusively for text. When my PGBK cartridge ran dry, I thought the BK cartridge would take over, since it was still 75% full. Nope.

Now that I''ve purchased this combo pack, convenient as it is, the BK cartridge is gathering dust next to my printer, unused.

I have always stuck with OEM ink, because the results and reliability are worth the extra cost to me (plus printer manufacturers are making it increasingly difficult to use non-OEM solutions).

However, it is beyond dumb to see the combos that Canon is offering for the new line of ink jet cartridges. In this case Canon gives you four color cartridges, but all of their current PIXMA printers take five or six to get the Pigment Black or Gray cartridges you''ll have to buy them separately and at a higher price. Plus this combo includes 50 sheets of paper that not everyone needs (I have plenty already). Perhaps Canon should ditch the paper and lower the list price of this combo by eight dollars the amount this CLI-226 combo was increased over the CLI-221 combo it replaced.

BTW, the other package deal offered by Canon (PGI-225 BK/ CLI-226 C,M,Y 4 Pack Value Pack (4530B008)) is another strange combo that includes Pigment Black and three colors, but does not include Black or Gray.

Sorry, but it makes no sense whatsoever to not offer at least a 5-cartridge refill kit for a printers that needs 5 or 6 different inks except that it lines Canon''s pockets a bit more than it should. A kit that substituted Pigment Black for the paper would make more sense than this or as I said earlier just get rid of the paper and lower the price significantly.

I also have to knock off a star because the new cartridges are opaque, which may have been done to thwart refillers but also prevents users from checking the ink level themselves.

Edit July 2011: When my Pixma MX860 printer recently failed I was looking at upgrading to the Canon PIXMA MG8120 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (4504B002). But in large part due my dissatisfaction with the ink cartridges of the new Pixmas I went with a refurbished Canon PIXMA MP990 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (3749B002) which uses the previous generation CLI-221 cartridges.

I agree with most of the people that have written reviews. Believe it or not.....it costs less at times to purchase a new printer that comes with in than buying the ink alone. Our stores have this model on sale all the time. Actually ran into a guy the other day who had like 6 of them in his shopping cart and said.....yeah buying the printer for the ink.

So, what do you do with all the printers? I guess they all go to land fill, just what we need. Canon we like your product, so give us a break on the ink.......

Don''t let your first impression of the LJ 1300 fool you. It does look a bit more like one of HP''s cheapie inkjet or photo printers than the serious B&W laser workhorse that it is.

It''s chintzy-appearing plastic paper tray sticking out of the front and it''s very inexpensive price (...) belies its rather impressive capabilities as a reasonably "heavy duty" home office or small business printer.

I''m a full-time, home-based medical transcriptionist. My printer output averages 5,000-7,500 pages a month -a much higher output demand than most home offices and others who have posted reviews here. Because I work on production, I absolutely require a reliable laser printer.

The reason that I bought the HP 1300 was because a Brother HL-5140 I had recently purchased turned out to be entirely unsatisfactory after only a couple months of use (it''s poorly designed and plagued with paper jams). I knew I should have stuck with HP in the first place.

I have now used the HP 1300 for about a month and printed more than 5,000 pages without a single glitch or paper jam. Yes, I am very careful about how I handle the paper I put into the printer, but I think that''s pretty amazing. And after printing more than 5,000 pages with the small-capacity 13A toner cartridge (which is rated at 2,500 pages), I still have 25% of the toner left.

Over the past years I have used LaserJet 4L and 6P models extensively. The only differences I can discern between them and the current printer is that he HP 1300 is quieter and a whole lot faster. And, contrary to the observations of some reviewers here, I have found the print quality among all three to be consistenly excellent.

I don''t give a 5-star rating easily, but the HP 1300 has earned it.

THE PROS:

1. Initial setup (at least for me, using a parallel port connection with both DOS and Windows drivers) was incredibly quick and simple. Anyone who has trouble installing this printer (as mentioned in a couple of other reviews here) probably didn''t bother to read the instructions.

2. I found the online documentation to be quite adequate, and the online "Toolbox" is an extremely useful tool for both customizing the printer and monitoring its current status.

3. If output speed is what you''re looking for, the HP 1300 delivers with HP''s "instant-on fuser technology." No more waiting for the laser printer to warm up between jobs. For me, this "first page out" time is as important as the rated print speed.

4. Paper of all kinds, including envelopes, run through it without any problems, and the print quality is excellent.

5. It''s about as quiet as any laser printer I''ve ever used.

6. The HP 1300 appears to be VERY well designed and built for very hard use. Changing the toner cartridge couldn''t be easier.

THE CONS:

1. I remains to be seen if the HP 1300 will stand up to my very rigorous use as well as my old LaserJet 6P, which has over 120,000 pages through it and is still going strong.

2. As noted by another reviewer, like nearly all laser printers, it does tend to curl the top and bottom edges of the printed pages a bit sometimes, which can be a bit annoying. However, this characteristic is common to nearly all laser printers, and it depends a lot on temperature, humidity, and the type of paper you''re using.

All in all, an absolutely fantastic, reasonably heavy-duty printer, and a terrific bargain for(...).

This HP pretty much delivers its money''s worth. The paper tray holds a decent sized 250 pages, but the strength of the printer remains it''s speed. I use it from home and probably print 300-600 pages a week. It has no problems dealing with the output, though it does sound like there''s a lawn mower loose in the house every time it kicks into action. If you live next to Benedictine Monks or a Yoga school, you''re probably going to need something a little more mindful of neighbors, but otherwise, this is a powerful workhorse. Sure, it''s just black and white, but if you''re looking for efficiency, not a bad choice. The previous reviewer mention a problem with quality of print. I just don''t see it. I tried smudging the pages with my fingers, running them underwater, giving them to the dog, but the print survived. I even do professional work off it, and still, fail to see the problem. I can''t imagine finding anything better in the same range.

Works well. Thus far I''m quite happy with it.

I really like the 10 page manual feed `tray'' that sits on top of the regular paper tray cover. Great if you need to print a booklet or a small duplex job since you don''t have to take all the paper out. Also great for reusing paper that has been printed on one side for those small print jobs that you''ll throw away anyway like rough drafts etc.

With the guides set properly, I haven''t experienced any of the crooked printing reported by other reviewers. The manual tray paper guides slide easily so you''ll need to keep an eye on them.

Some reviewers have mentioned that the print is too light. At default settings the printing is a bit lighter than my old HP LaserJet 5L however this can be easily fixed by bumping up the toner density from 3 to 4 (on a scale of 1 to 5). Note: this will increase the per page cost as you will be using more toner. Unfortunately, this feature is not very well documented in the manual. It''s accessed through the HP Toolbox > Advanced Print Settings > Print Quality.

No printed manual is included so you''ll have to print it yourself (172 pages). Alas, the lack of a printer manual is par for the course these days. When I first tried to print the manual, I got a fatal error (all three lights on) about 20 pages into the job and had to turn off the printer and reboot my computer before I could print again. Fortunately, this has not happed since and I''ve now printed a total of 476 pages. The manual is ok but could be a lot more detailed and better laid out so as not to waste paper. Some critical stuff is in the README file.

HP recommends a "software first install" which means you install the drivers first and then connect the printer when prompted during the installation.

One piece of advice: use the custom install feature and install both the PCL and PS drivers (only the PCL is installed by default). The PS driver gives substantially better results printing PDF''s. With the PCL driver some PDF pages suffer from dropouts and the text looks terrible, however they print perfectly with the PS driver. You will also need the HP toolbox as it is the only way to access printer features such as Toner Density (unless you have the 1300n with the LIO print server.)

If you need to add the PS driver after you have installed the HP Printing system things get a little tricky. Read the "known issues" in the README file. Basically, if using the CD, "Be sure to select the HP toolbox and the print driver you wish to install," otherwise it will delete the HP Toolbox. This is completely counter intuitive as one figures that once the Toolbox is installed it need not be installed gain. I made this mistake and subsequent attempts to "modify the existing installation" by adding the missing components had everything installed but I still couldn''t use the web update feature. Hence I removed everything and reinstalled it from scratch.

If you are looking to buy LaserJet 1300 (or its cheaper sibling, 1150), take a look at newly released LaserJet 1160 and 1320. They address some of 1150 and 1300''s biggest shortcomings while being nicer looking. I have used LaserJet 1300 for several months and while I think it is a decent printer, I am not a fan of protruding paper tray (it reminds me of old DeskJet printers) and its output bin tends to curl papers when 50 or so pages are stacked.

After playing with both 1160 and 1320, I got 1160 (refer to my LaserJet 1160 Amazon review). Both 1160 and 1320 look more like a laser printer while still maintaining small footprint. LED status lights are still cryptic, but they are now clearly labeled. Although multifunction input tray can accept only 1 sheet at a time (1150 and 1300 accepted 10 sheets), the paper handling is improved overall and output bin is more robust. And output quality is crispier, with better defined text and graphics.

I came online just to check prices for this printer, since mine just flamed out and I wanted to see how much I''d originally spent on it. I was startled to see other reviews detailing *exactly* what happened to my 1300... steaming along just fine until about year 2, then paper jams, crackling noises, shredded rollers and the works.

The printer worked like a champ for as long as it lasted, but once the crackling sound hits, as mentioned in another review, it''s time for a new printer.

This printer warms up more slowly than my old Laserjet 5000 but, having warmed up, prints more than twice as fast--and much, much faster when duplexing. The duplexing technology is far superior to the old added-tray system, which jammed too often (after several thousand copies, I''ve had no jams in the P3005d duplexer). The image quality is excellent (better for graphics than my $9,000. Toshiba), and it has various fuser settings for different kinds of media. Printing labels and index are no problem. About the only criticisms I have are: the tendency of the copies to curl, regardless of the paper used (but this is a problem common to all laser printers I have used); the menu display is a bit cumbersome and hard to read in some lighting conditions--I wish they would use dedicated buttons and a larger display window for setting such functions as print density. The menu settings for printing custom-size sheets in the proper orientation are tricky and confusing.

This is an awesome printer! Have had it for years and it has been flawless in its performance. I had HP printers prior to this that also worked perfectly for years, some for more than a decade. This is big, and heavy. I like that because it means it has some meat to it, unlike the majority of printers today that are so light they just seem to have nothing inside. The only reason I''m writing a review now is because I just bought a new computer which didn''t have the old printer output connection that I was using on the old computer. I thought I was going to have to get a new printer, but when I was searching Amazon for one I saw that they were still selling this printer, and noticed in the specs that it had a USB connector. I used that and it works as well as always, without that huge printer cable that I had been using. Reliable and indestructible. I also get about 10 times the number of pages from a printer cartridge than what the cartridge says I will get, although I only use the HP cartridges so I don''t know about other brands. All it does is print, but that''s what I wanted.

After several attempts at purchasing less expensive home printers that were absurdly slow, loud and/or shaky, ineffective, or just didn''t work at all, I finally gave in and bought this printer, which is the same HP model used at my office. I have to print 60+ page documents on a regular basis and the P3005D does so very quickly and reliably. It prints quietly, holds a large supply of blank paper, and is compact enough not to require a desk of its own. While I didn''t want to spend this much for a home printer, I''ve found this one to be well worth the cost. Plus, I''m saving on paper -I had fish out about three crumbled, torn, and misfed sheets for every one printed on the HP Officejet J4680c I was previously using.

After extensive searching around the internet it seems like there are problems with the formatter boards on these printers. I called HP to see if anything is being done and we were told if we want a new board it will cost $199 for the board plus installation.

I use this with my Canon Pro9500 pigmented ink printer with excellent results. I''m picky about papers becasue I sell my prints in a gallery. I expect my printed colors to match my calibrated screen precisely. Using the print profile supplied by Ilford for my printer, color rendition, as well as shadow and highlight rendidion is as true as with Canon papers (which are of course outstanding).

The texture is exactly what I want for my wildlife prints. The term "pearl" describes it well. Not matte, and not quite semi-gloss, it is somewhere in between. The texture is like a very fine matte, but with a sheen that is more lively, much like a pearl. Canon does not have a comparable paper, so I am quite pleased this works so well.

This is the only third party paper I have used that gives comparable results to proprietary paper when used with a vendor-supplied printer profile. I can''t say it would work with other printers, but with Canon Lucia pigmented inks, I have only praise.

They work fine, I had problems keeping them locked into place. I found that the small little tab that you click to insert or remove needed to carefully be bent outwards to stay locked in. Also I got a message saying that the ink was empty and please replace with genuine HP inks. I just hit clear or ok and they work fine but the ink level indicators don''t show accurate levels. With the price of HP ink those 2 things don''t bother me.

The colors are fine and you get a full round of all the colors to replace. The only last thing is that the Big black ink isn''t the same size and the HP version its slightly smaller but again for the price i''m ok with them.

Have mixed feelings about these cartridges. When I opened them ink ran out all over my hands... still have the stains to prove it. After it happened with two I learned to put on rubber gloves and open them over the sink. They seem to work OK once I got them in the printer.

These cartridges work fine, and produce quality prints, equal to OEM carts. The printer does complain about non-HP brand, and won''t report ink levels. I can live with that for half the price of OEM!

I did not get to use these cartridges for a couple months and when I installed them my printer said the were almost or completely empty, The black was fine but only two of the colors printed at all.

I am unable to use these cartridges because the "T" tab to lock it in place is actually upside down. My HP cartridges have the "T" facing straight up. There was no return label or invoice so I had no 800# to call. I finally was able to track the shipper on my previous orders & I''m told it''s too late to return them. I will never order from this shipper again. That was a big waste of $53!!!!

I''m a Fine Art Digital Photographer, not a techno geek to make it plain to those reading my assessment of the Epson Stylus Pro 3800. Since getting into the digital arena and printing my own images, I''ve been with Epson exclusively. My digital prints are quality images, printed on the many available Epson substrates with perfect results. The Pro3800 is intuitive and easy to use, the switching between photo and matte inks is seamless, but takes a little time. So what. Coming from a wet darkroom experience in the past, time was something expected and desired for the outcome of a beautiful print. The printer''s colors are spectacular, the black and whites are great, the manual is easy to understand and if followed, the results speak for themselves.

Perhaps I should mention that my printer is upstairs in my studio, attached to my MacBook Pro and used only for the purpose of creating my photographs. The previous reviewer speaks of many other applications he had in mind for this unit. Perhaps his expectations somehow exceed the normal use for a printer of this caliber. But, I admit, I am no techno person, just an artist who is delighted with the performance of this printer.

As to the shipping mishaps he has experienced, unfortunate, but does happen. I bought my printer through Amazon, and it arrived in tip top shape. Also, I''ve always had good customer support from Epson in the past, so don''t know why he didn''t.

For you ..... prospective buyers ...... assess your printing needs first, look up other printers and independent reviews, then make an informed choice.

This printer offers excellent print-quality, and it does so in a small footprint. I''m amazed! However, Epson slacks a little in regards to reliable networking, beta-testing, shipping, and efficiency.

I have possessed two of these printers and both had some major issue:

#1 First one was most likely damaged during packaging, because the shipping box was in pristine condition. I had to ship it back and get another printer, albeit, I didn''t have to ship it until the new one arrived, but with Epson''s poor tech-support, even this was no easy job for me. I ended up having to call the Headquarters to speak with someone, but the whole building was too busy with some big meeting to help me. Nobody EVER called me back during the whole experience of swapping the two printers out.

#2 Second printer was also damaged (STRAIGHT FROM EPSON!), but I managed to reset the front tray. You can tell the machine is fragile, just from the serious amount of foam and blue tape Epson ships the device with. It takes a good 5-10 minutes to carefully unpack. Printers have never really been built like tanks, and I don''t expect the manufacturers will find a way any time soon.

#3 Bug in the software? My printer suddenly started displaying it was using Photo-Black ink, instead of Matte. So I set it to swap the blacks out back to Matte black. Soon after, it displayed Photo Black again. So I wasted two swaps to find a cosmetic BUG! Cosmetic, sure, but this is a bit over the top. Epson even mis-spelled the word, "Networking" in the Firmware update utility inside the LFP Remote Panel. If that''s indicative of Epson''s attention to detail, I can only imagine this is where they had to cut some jobs to give the K3-ink crew more time and materials. I''m just glad the K3-ink department got it right!

#4 The IT staff at Epson should get more involved with the design engineers and help them understand more about RELIABLE LAN networking. This printer is among the lowest quality LAN nodes I''ve dealt with in my life. I''m a Cisco Network Engineer, btw. If you want to experience repeated futility, try getting this thing to regain an Ethernet connection to a Mac Book Pro after unplugging the cable and rebooting either device. I don''t wish to think every Epson printer does this, but I''m surprised Epson didn''t build any decent Ethernet status monitoring in the printer. No, that''s something HP does well, and have proven it for the last ten years.

#5 Poorly laid out menus and buttons: Yeah I''ve worked with better. Question: Why do you have to reboot the printer to change it''s IP address? Haven''t we evolved enough to virtually eliminate reboots?

I can''t boast enough about the print-quality, and to keep the price within reach, there has to be some sacrifices made along the way. Shareholders don''t budge on these things, and I don''t expect Seiko to, either. So, if you can live with potential issues in production as such, I think you''ll be a satisfied customer, assuming your printer arrives intact and without something bent. I just wish Epson could have worked a little harder on other aspects of the printer that may not relate directly to the actual image.

btw, the whole time it took me to type this review, the Epson print software STILL hadn''t figured out it cannot print due to the Printer''s NIC card not communicating! How about a little better error-checking? I wish Canon were better, but they''re really not. They seem to have budget issues caused by shareholders, too.

I recently upgraded to this HP OfficeJet 4620 from a Dell A960. I KNOW, HUGE upgrade.

It took me about 30 minutes to set up, that includes getting it out of the box, putting it together, running the alignment test, and installing the drivers.

Setting up the ePrint was a breeze! They make it so easy for you and I''m most excited about that particular feature. Going to be very convenient since I am always on the go and use my phone for EVERYTHING (don''t we all?).

The complaint from the other reviewer that this printer is noisy I believe to be a fault in that particular printer... this printer is relatively quiet in my opinion but again I must mention that I previously owned an A960 so anything sounds like a whisper compared to that. I personally don''t see why the noise output is a factor at all. Getting nit-picky if you ask me.

The faxing speed is lightning fast. Scanning couldn''t be easier. It prints super fast, and the quality is top notch.

I''m personally very taken with how compact this printer is. It takes up very little desk space (about two stacks of paper in width).

This printer has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the cost of ink. Very efficient printing, small footprint.

All in all, this little 4 in 1 is quite the powerhouse. I highly recommend it if you''re looking for a quality 4 in 1! I''d give it 10 stars if Amazon let me. :)

I switched from a Brother MFC J415W because it wasted too much ink with its unnecessary ink cartridge cleaning cycles (which could not be turned off) and the print quality wasn''t comparable to HP. Before that I had an HP Officejet 6500a Wireless which I considered a piece of trash because none of the drivers or software never worked properly and the machine froze up frequently. The HP Officejet 6500a was an upgrade from an HP Officejet 6310 which had wonderful print quality and never froze but had no wireless. This HP Officejet 4620 is comparable to the HP Officejet 6310 in most respects except that it is a bit more noisy (but not to the point of it being unbearable). This printer was really easy to set up and it has better execution of the Scan and Fax function (which can be set as the default faxing method) than the HP Officejet 6310, and it can be set up to turn on and off on a schedule in addition to its sleep mode. It doesn''t get five stars because it''s not perfect because of the noise but for faxing, scanning and occasional non-photo color printing, it seems pretty good so far. I don''t think I''d recommended as a primary printer for someone who prints a lot because of the cost of ink cartridges but as a fax, scanner and occasional printer, it''ll work.

Setup was easy, But printing is impossible for the fact that the paper is jammed even before you put paper in the printer. I am an IT pro and quite capable in operating printers and computers but this thing is impossible. I tried multiple weight papers it would not feed most times then again once it fed like 29 sheets at one time. I do not recommend this scanner. 2 hours messing with it and have not been able to make one copy or send one fax. Sending the piece of @%#! back.

I gave it 4 stars because I did not experience the problems the other reviewers had and the cheap paper catcher and the Image Capture do not bother me like it did some. I really like Lion so I wouldn''t go back to Snow Leopard or Tiger just to get the scan feature to work regularly.

This printer is meeting the expectations I have for my needs. I do not print photo quality photos on my HP officejet 4620. I use if for printing art lessons I create which include illustrations and pictures I have painted and photographed myself for teaching purposes. I also print personal finance records and word processing documents. I leave the photo printing to the $300,000 machines at my local CVS or Walgreens by uploading them and either having them mailed to me or pick-up myself. No worries about ink fading there.

After reading extensively on home printers using Apple''s Lion it seemed to be giving MANY some users trouble so this is what I did. I DID NOT use the installation disk. I downloaded the most recent drivers from HP directly and proceeded to install them and by following the SIMPLE prompts. I was able to install the wireless feature quickly and easily using the cord and my modem. I knew the username and password for my provider by calling them in advance of attempting an installation. I have not installed e print as I do not have and use for it at the time but may later. I expect it to be as simple as the wireless function. The ink seems to be lasting at an average rate. Since HP dumped the chip heads on the cartridges the ones for the HP Officejet 4620 are slightly more reasonable. I know to keep the internal heads working I will have to print something each week in both color and b and w. If a cartridge seems to fail early just pop it out and wipe the bottom gently with a water dampened rag to remove dried up ink.

The print quality is good for my needs and fast enough for me. It is slightly irritating to have to use Image Capture to scan a document to the desktop but entirely doable if you know your Mac. I fooled around with the print feature and finally got to the draft scan and grayscale to conserve color ink on un-importatant papers. Just go to the print feature, select type/quality; go to quality and select fast draft; mouse over color and select grayscale then black and white only. I got this printer for $88 because the box had been opened. My last HP was a Photosmart 4280 all in one that lasted 4 years then died. I expect this one to last as long also.

This printer isn''t perfect but its nowhere near as bad as some other review both here and on other sites have made it out to be. It took about 30 minutes to get it set up on the network, due in part to my slow optical drive taking awhile to install the software. As long as you follow the instructions in the book that comes with the printer and then on the computer when you install the software you should have no problems. I love the fact that it has E-print(email documents to your printer) so that if there is something I need to print when I am out I can email it to the printer and have it ready when I get home. It even sends me an email to the same address letting me know that the printing job has been completed. It also does have security features for the E-print so that it can be set up so that only certain email addresses can use it which is comforting. I know some people complained that the scanner was really loud but mine makes no noise whatsoever when it scans, I actually thought that it wasn''t scanning at all until I looked at my computer screen and saw the image on the screen fully scanned.

On the downside it is a bit noisy when it prints and makes some weird noise when it stops printing as well. It also sometimes manages to push the paper in the tray back so the point that it thinks that it is out of paper so you have to push the paper in the tray forward in order to get it to print. The good qualities outweigh the bad and make it a pretty good printer, especially for the price range.

The paper is the standard HP paper and good quality, but it was not shipped well through the USPS. The carton came broken and the first few reams were broken also. This was not the first time it was shipped like this as my first order came the same way. If it had been shipped through UPS it may have come in better condition. I sent a review of the shipping method to Amazon and maybe they will listen to it. I used Amazon Prime to ship and usually UPS is used but not in this case so I will not buy it again. Perhaps you will have better luck. The price is fair.

We''ve had this printer for over a year. We are moderate home users, mostly home projects and school reports maybe 500 pages a month or so. The usual issues with expensive toner cartridges -we''ve gone through the starter set plus one additional set of cartridges. Generally haven''t had any jamming problems and have had very good print quality. BUT we use a lot of special paper like label sheets, card sheets, colored paper, etc. more expensive paper that you don''t want to leave in the main paper tray -I tend to use the single sheet feed slot a lot. And the single-sheet feed on the Dell 1320c is completely useless. It is incapable of getting the paper to feed properly, no matter how carefully you position the paper in the slot, no matter how hard you work to "help" the paper feed straight. I don''t think I ever even tried envelopes. I really don''t understand how, after all these years, correct paper feeding is still "rocket science" for printer manufacturers. Anyway, basically I end up putting everything into the paper tray and working hard not to forget to take out any sheets I didn''t use. One little item you have to know when doing this -the paper tray feeds from the front on this machine, not the back.

That led me to the Dell 1320c. Am I ever glad that this is the printer I bought!

Let me tell you, it''s hands down the best personal-use printer I have ever owned. The color print quality is as good as anything you''ll find--at least as good as your neighborhood Kinko''s, maybe better. The cartridge capacity is pretty good, but this isn''t a printer designed for spitting out thousands of pages a day. However, for a personal or home office use, it''s going to be hard to beat a printer that does all this, rarely breaks down, and almost never has any hardware glitches that plague some cheaper models.

It''s only real drawback is its size: at more than a foot in each dimension, it doesn''t do well ask a desk printer.

So, in summary, if you need a printer that''s quite a bang for just a few bucks, the 1320c may be just what you''re looking for.

Purchased this one in Nov ''10 after a lot of research and angst before finally hitting the "BUY" button. I must say that I am very impressed with this baby so far. It is what it is a basic color laser print. Not a lot of fancy stuff to get in the way or broke. Just sits there all quiet and asleep until it is called into action. Whines a wee-bit when printing but still quieter than my ink-jets. Not the fastest kid on the block (still pretty decent though); but take one look at that fabulous output and then you''ll be asking yourself "...how did I ever make do without this baby before now??"

It was a piece of cake to set up. There is not a display to walk you through the setup options, but there is really nothing to do if you are connecting directly to your PC/MAC. Comes with the Mac driver disk so once that is loaded you just need to ID it in your printer preferences (Google for mac setup how-to), point to the installed driver and BOOM, there it is. Setting it up on a network is even easier (yes, it is networkable!! SWEET!), just connect it (sorry, wired only, not wireless) and restart; hold down the print button for a couple of secs, look on the config page that is printed, find the assigned IP, set it up using LPD and away you go! Windows 7 is even easier!!

I''ve had a Lexmark e310 for about 6 years and sadly, it finally started to die (paper pickup mechanism). I''ve had/have Epson, HP and Canon ink-jets and in my humble opinion -they are ALL way up there on the suck-o-meter. Unless of course you enjoy get your blood sucked out of you on a daily basis through your wallet! Epson and Canon are the worst they seem to want to go through a "Cleaning cycle" at least once a day. Every time I hear them do that all I can think is "Good-bye money..."

I have three in college and they print reports and papers like there is no tomorrow (3-4 reams of paper a semester). I keep tabs on toner level in the web-based management console and so far it still shows all of the cartridges are still full. I set them up to print in draft mode and the output in B/W still looks really good. Color output is noticeably weaker in draft mode but definitely passable. A quick switch to HQ mode and the color output POPs!!! We have Dell printers at work and they seem to hold up real nice under moderate to heavy work loads so I am optimistic for this baby.

One thing not mentioned anywhere is that after 20,000 pages the print head device (PHD) will need replaced. The PHD is a $180 part that can be very difficult to find. This is marketed as a good printer for a small office, but it''s just consumer grade junk. Most consumers will never hit 20,000 pages and notice the expensive parts replacements.

Instead of fixing mine I will be throwing it away and buying a Xerox Phaser.

I recently purchased this printer and found it will not feed anything satisfactorily through the envelope feeder. When I contacted Dell Support (they are wonderful), I was told this: "When printing envelopes on this printer, there is not way to completely remove the wrinkles. The way the paper path is in this printer, it causes an air pocket to be created and then when the fuser moves through the fuser, that causes the wrinkles to be created." I also had to have a workaround for Windows 7 to set up a custom paper size, but Dell Support was able to help me with that.

Terrible got stuck on label maker. This is the second tape that I purchased because the first one same color/size was eaten by my label maker! I''ve had my machine for 6 years, and it only gets jammed with this tape. Kissed $26 bucks goodbye.

We are a 10 person law firm. The Canon works as advertised. So far we are 3 months in. Had a little problem configuring the "scan to a network location," but once set, it functions as we want it to. I have not compared print speeds, since we do not use it primarily for that purpose (we use local printers mostly), but having another networked duplex-capable machine with ok speed is helpful, and the ability to scan to our file server at decent speeds for the price (the next level up in speed is really about $1700 more) is great.

Do not buy this product. The toner gave out in less than a week. An HP, previously in that position took several months to run out with the same load. The mechanics of getting a print out are convoluted. You have to manipulate the front panel if you want labels to run through properly. Scanning to the network is a joke. The manual explicitly states that if you have more than 10 computers the unit won''t be able to negotiate that. The output is slow and lacks crispness. The arrangement of the front panel and the fit and function of the unit are poor. I am very dissapointed in this unit. Bad design, poor quality, crappy functionallity.
