As always, here''s my honest review with some background.

I''ve been looking for a good laser printer that I could have on my network for a while now. I have a small office and am an aspiring teacher (currently student teaching). When I can''t get to the copy machine at school, I wanted something I could use to do some "mass printouts" for my students. I had an old NEC Superscript, but it frequently paused between pages for a breather and was generally slow.

If you don''t need the network card (print server) built into this printer, then the 1320 (not 1320n) would be an amazing value! For me, I wanted the networking, so I was willing to spend the extra money. Setup was relatively simple, changing the IP address was easy, and I was up and running, printing from my Windows XP machines AND my MacOS X (10.3.7) machines.

Now for the printer itself. I''m very impressed with the build quality. Printers have been turning into plastic junk lately, but this one still has metal guts, metal supports holding the paper in the bottom tray, etc. Certain parts seem like generic plastic, but overall it has a nice fit and finish.

Print speeds are amazingly swift! The first thing I put this little print-monster through was a 70-copy worksheet for my students. It took sheet after sheet without a pause! It might grab paper just when the previous sheet is half way through because they seem to keep flying out! Duplex printing was a bonus with this unit handy in a pinch, but it slows the print speed by about 2-3 times because it pulls the paper back inside and reprints on the other side... Either way, I dare you to find a quality printer like this, with a duplexer for this price!

Instant on fuser sends paper printing within 8 seconds. Overall, I''m very pleased! I was tempted to get the next model up (2420) but the price difference with no standard duplexer killed that deal.

Wish list? An tiny LCD display telling me whats going on would be nice but it has lights which do the job just fine. Also and I''m just dreaming here, it would be nice to see an option for this printer to staple printouts...I know, I''ve been around pricey copy machines too much!

So, pick yourself up this printer! You won''t be sorry. The print quality is very crisp your well-known HP laser quality, and even graphics are suitable! Its B&W (no color printing), but the money saved on just one toner from time to time as apposed to inkjet cartridges every other month is mind boggling! ...and how often do you need color printing? Some may, but for the bulk of what I print, B&W is fine.

One-year update (11/2005):

I would now give this printer 5 stars, as my original concerns (below) were superficial/cosmetic issues. The printer has performed wonderfully over the past year, no issues or breakdowns. Toner life has been well beyond my expectations, lasting just over a year of use. (I typically print a lot of academic, text-focused articles. Graphic-heavy works might use toner more quickly.) Printer speed is great, and even pretty decent using the 2-sided mode.

At this point, my only complaint is that the manual feed ''slot'' isn''t a ''tray''--thus requiring a bit of attention when using. Regardless, I can recommend this printer for home or small-office users who want fast, black and white printing.

I recently purchased this printer to make printing over my home network easier. Functionally, the printer warms up quickly, text is clear, and it comes installed with some nice fonts one doesn''t normally find standard in Windows, such as CG Omega and Univers.

Network setup and installation were easy, you do need to have your own ethernet cable, but you just plug it into your hub, then install software from the supplied CD. I had no problems with installing on 98-SE or XP-SP2 (although the XP computer I had to pay attention during installation to make sure the firewall settings were opened for the print spooler).

I haven''t had the printer long enough to speak on toner life, but we''ll see.

Two things keep me from giving this printer a perfect review:

1) The images of the printer (on HP''s site as well as Amazon) make the printer appear to be the same color scheme as the newer HP PC''s, the cool silver and gray-blue. However, the printer is an off-white beige and non-bluish-gray. I was looking forward to the more futuristic color scheme.

2) When I received mine, the HP logo decal was missing from the front of the printer. The empty space for the logo is a bit annoying. I spoke with HP about this and the service rep was very friendly, but they couldn''t send me a replacement logo. My only options were to exchange the printer (at no cost), or live with it.

Overall it''s a great printer, and the phone service I''ve received has been courteous. The not-so-cool color scheme and logo fluke aside, I highly recommed it. But spending $500 for a home printer, I expected better attention to details.

I have both Macintosh (OSX) and PC (Windows XP) computers on my home network. So I wanted a network printer so that I would not have to directly connect the printer to any one machine.

A single driver CD-ROM is included with this product. You must load the drivers onto both the Mac and PC. The SAME CD-ROM works with both. Once the HP driver is installed the machines can communicate directly with the printer.

The print quality seems fine, both with graphics and text. Being able to print on both sides of the paper is a really handy feature, and saves paper. The double sided printing is all automatic to the printer. No more printing odd/even pages and flipping!

Laser printers have a few advantages over Ink Jet printers. If you print mostly black/white text/graphics like I do, you will find your print speeds faster with a laser printer. You will also find lower print costs than Ink Jet. Further, toner has a longer shelf life than Ink cartages, since toner is already dry and will not dry out like an unused ink cartridge may.

All and all I am very happy with this printer. I have not had to contact HP support, so I do not have any opinions on the support side of this product.

Printerworks sells parts for the HP1300 printer, NOT the HP1320 series. The 1300 is a rounded looking unit, the 1320 is definitely square-ish.

If it weren''t for a couple small problems/isues, I''d give it 5 stars.

1. unable to find service manuals

(Normally you can get great deals on fee-bay, for HP printer service guides. However, I never see any of the manuals that also include the HP1320 or 1320n).

a. Many times I fix my own printers inhouse, using service manuals and individual parts from a place called Printerworks.

b. Example: a fuser unit. Many times the fuser cakes up, builds up, on the metal roller of the fuser unit. Normally in the middle of the roller.

I service a lot of HP4 and 4MV printers.

The metal fuser tube only costs like $40 plus about 45 minutes of time for dis-assembly then re-assembly.

c. I cannot find anything on the hp1320 series at Printerworks, which is really sad. (Maybe HP is deliberately trying to keep endusers from doing their own repairs; who knows).

Nothing to stack your envelopes or stationery on, no pull out plastic piece like most other printers.

It''s a crappy, horizontal, single piece feeding slot.

You have to sort of push the envelope in, make sure it starts feeding into the printer.

You can''t just insert an envelope and leave, or it will most likely fall out.

LAME, real LAME.

Even though there are a few cons, I still like my 1320.

Still need a service manual though, otherwise I''m dread the day it needs new rollers or separation pads, or both.

This printer was purchased for use in an office environment. It''s used often everyday, so it has to be dependable. This one has performed nicely so far. I would purchase another one without hesitation.

I too had the problem of the receipt printing out on the other half of the sheet (label) when printing my postage, but I solved it by only inserting one label into the printer, NOT one whole sheet. My printer simply stops printing when it detects the end of the page and spits out the label. I have a feeling this will work for most other printers as well. I would encourage all to try this once. For me, as a result of this technique, not a single label is wasted. I LOVE THEM!!!

UPDATE:I got a new printer, a completely different brand and the above technique works like a charm in this one, too. I really think this works on all printers, give it a try! :o)

FINALLY, I wish I would have found these a month ago when I started selling. They are the cheapest price for self-adhesive shipping labels anywhere! And to boot, free shipping! They work just like normal paper on my standard ink jet printer. The day I received them someone bought one of my items so I was able to test them out and they worked flawlessly. Later I realized that you can get them for free UPS though but only if you use them for UPS.

Have you ever tried to re-use your Amazon boxes by peeling the label off? As you know, they use SUPERGLUE to ensure that their labels stick! Great for mailing not so great for those of us wanting to do a little recycling.

We have had to make a number of shipments recently, and have been using online services to create the labels. We carefully and painstakingly peeled off the Amazon label, then taped the new label down using shipping tape. This was time-consuming and a royal pain!

When this showed up in my Quick Picks, I realized this could be a great solution. These labels lay directly over the Amazon labels and you cannot see through them!

After reading from other reviewers that I could "turn off receipts" (which normally print on the second half of the page) I knew it was the perfect solution! And, it was. Once I found where to turn it off in Paypal, I was set.

First, I drew an X on the top sheet of a piece of paper and printed my sample label. With this, I was able to determine where my labels would print. I then placed the label into my printer (in my case it was face down yours may be different) and printed the first label. I peeled the label off to use, then turned the paper around (with the other end at the top) and ... presto, printed the second label.

At one point, I made a mistake and cut the label in half before it was printed. Not wanting to lose even a single label, I inserted the half-page into my printer. It worked.

Every printer is different, so you will need to do your own test as to which end is up, but if you need to do shipping using online services, these are exactly what you want. Not only are they secure, but you can save a LOT of tape from taping yours down!

To be honest, before I even opened the package I had this review all planned out. I have a mail order business, & I have used Avery labels many times in the past. The quality has always been superb, but they''re just priced too high for me & that''s what I''d planned to say along with 4 stars (5 for quality, 3 for price).

Well, I''m glad I printed a few first. I don''t know if it''s just this label or the entire line, & I don''t know when they made the change; but they''ve gone to a much thinner backing then I remember. In fact the backing is thinner then the 2 brands of generic labels I normally use.

Out of about 15 prints in an admittedly picky HP 4400, there were 3 "paper jams" caused by the HP not being happy with the backing. I use quotes around the phrase paper jam, because they weren''t full jams; the printer just stopped & thought it was jammed.

I recently returned a batch of a new brand of generic labels for the same problem, but again the generics I normally use don''t have this issue. I printed around 30 of my usual generic labels tonight with no problem before switching to the Avery''s.

On the other hand, the actual labels continue to be best in the business. Solid, thick, great adhesive, as smudge proof as they get & easy to peel.

Unfortunately, between the thin backing (which also curls after 1 of the 2 labels has been used) & the high price (about 6 1/2 times the cost of quality generics), I can only go 3 stars.

I look forward to comments from regular Avery users regarding the thin backing issue. I use labels for my business, & it would be useful to know if Avery is now using this thin backing on all their labels.

This printer works as promised. The pages look very good on plain paper, especially the color, considering it''s plain paper. I love being able to copy to my flash drive! As a teacher, this comes in very handy, so I can present work on-screen. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the setup problems. Had this printer for a couple days now. Print speeds are good for home or small office use. Scanning also works fairly well. I have not tested faxing. The first dislike I have so far is that it does not have built in wifi and no support for airprint but I knew that prior to purchase. The second dislike is that it only supports a handfull of media types and I am unable to print to size 10 envelopes which means I have to keep my old HP Laserjet 5n around just so I can print envelopes. The printer is well built (heavy) and I assume will last a long time. I was very impressed with the quality of color printing which I would rate as a B+. Setup was fairly simple at under 5 minutes. I downloaded the drivers from Oki''s web site instead of from the disk but ended up loading the disk to install the Oki Scanner Utility which was not available as a download. The disk also comes with a basic Paperport software. There are several sleep mode settings but I set mine to 5 minutes which turns off the fan after 5 min and puts machine into sleep. This printer does not have a paper drawer but rather a tray you flip down and a charcoal colored dust tray clips on to the tray, not that big of a deal but some people may not care for that design. In order to do duplex printing, you must purchase the optional Tray 2. All in all it is a good home laser printer but really wish I could print #10 envelopes!

I bought this through Costco for $160, which is an amazing price for a quality multi-function laser printer. While the real price of any printer is the ongoing cost of toner, Costco''s price is about $100 less than that of comparable products (such as the Dell 1355cn, which tends to go on sale for about $250).

As others have noted, set up isn''t quite "plug and play". Rather than deal with the set up CD, I simply downloaded the latest printer, fax, and scanner drivers (i.e. software) from the OKI website. I also downloaded PDF copies of the manuals so I''d have them on my computer. But you still need to know a little bit about what you are doing to set up this system. You also still need to use the CD to install various types of software.

There are two ways to connect the printer to your computer. The first is that you can buy a USB cord and connect it directly to your computer. (Don''t spend more than a few dollars on the cord. This one will do fine: http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Hi-Speed-USB-Cable-Feet/dp/B001MXLD4G/ref=pd_cp_e_0.) Just to be clear, this is not a wireless printer. But you can connect it, with a cord, to your computer or to your network. Then, you can connect other computers in the house to the printer wirelessly. The only reason to get a true wireless printer (i.e. one that doesn''t need a cord at all) is if you want to store the printer in a different place than your computer or router. Most people keep their printer right next to their computer and so shouldn''t be willing to spend the extra money for a true wireless printer.

I''ve had the printer for a few days now and am still learning about it. The print quality is great. I''ve scanned text (not photos) and have been quite happy with the results. Note that the default scanning resolution is quite course. You can increase the resolution and improve the scan quality. I haven''t played with the fax yet. This isn''t the right printer for you if you want to print photographs or make really high-quality scans of photos. I don''t print photos that often, and when I do, I just send them to Walgreens to be printed.

If you don''t print that often, set the power saving mode to turn off the printer after 5 minutes of use. This saves a little energy, but more importantly silences the printer.

This printer is more like the monster printer we have at the office, which is something I like about it. It will probably take me a very long time to read and fully understand everything that this printer can do, but so far I''m happy with the purchase.

I am not sure what the guy above was talking about this has energy saving mode so the fan does shut off you can adjust in 5min increments even the high dollar canon printer that this unit replaced. All drivers work with my win 7 x64 professional computers. Also networked flawless with my router. The print quality is so much better than any inkjet printers I have had. The only problem is trying to find the duplexer in stock online. I got mine at COSTCO they had a coupon offer and the printer only costed $160.

Reason for purchase: Looking for a good temporary tattoo brand that I could use to create my own designs to sell at art shows.

I purchased 3 brands of temporary tattoos and this one was the best out of them all. With regular washing my test tattoo, for this brand, stayed on about 5 days. Later, after reading some tips online, I found that my tattoo would have remained perfect and not become blurred if I hadn''t scrubbed the tattoo area.

For me it didn''t give me a super glossy finish. It was more of a mild finish which allowed it to look more realistic.

Liked most: That not only did the product come in a resealable bag, but you could tell between the adhesive paper from the waterslide paper. The adhesive had graphing lines on them; which was great because if I only wanted to use half a page I didn''t have to estimate where to cut. Also removeable was a snap! A lil rubbing alcohol and in less than a min it was gone.

Held on pretty strong, but looked fake because they''re shiny/glossy on the skin. Sweat started to make it bubble by the end of the night, but took some serious scrubbing (skin raw) to remove when it started to look too grody (picks up dirt over a day or two too)

But that being said, was a great way to test out tentative tattoo ideas, and in a club/bar I doubt anyone could tell they weren''t real!

Using and printing on this product was fairly easy although adding the sticky material to the tattoo printout was not too easily achieved.Further the material that makes the tattoo design stick to your skin is super, super thick and shiny when applied to your skin. The design will last for sure but it is extremely uncomfortable to have on your skin. It feels like a see through bandaid when applied and crinkles with the movement of your skin. Not at all comfortable to wear!!!

The company shipped thus so quick, I was thankful for that. And it was super easy to print on the paper. But the sticky part rips up the image if you aren''t careful, and it crinkles on your skin. It takes everything in your power to get them to stick to your skin, but once it''s on there, it is so difficult to get off. I had almost a carpet burn from trying to get one off only 6 hours later.

I was excited to see an all-in-one printer that had the added capability of high quality photo printing. The XP-800 is a good printer as all of Epson''s printers are, but I''d recommend choosing one of their workforce series all-in-ones and buy a high quality photo printer separately.

The reason is that the photo capability all but kills the regular paper capacity of the unit in order to make room for the special photo paper tray. They also include a tray for printing CD''s and DVD''s that have special printable tops to them. The XP-800 uses an extra "photo black" cartridge for photo prints. Photo print quality is good but I''ve seen better out of dedicated photo printers. A few test images I sent to the printer are a bit grainy despite setting the printer to its highest settings and printing on glossy photo paper.

Another odd decision was the motorized output tray that pops out of the unit when printing. Kind of an odd thing to have especially since it won''t retract it when the printed papers are removed. Pushing the tray back in is met with some resistance from the electric motor and it feels like something might break after awhile. Document print speed is good and about on par with the product description.

I do like the expanded Epson Cloud Connect feature. You can now scan directly to Dropbox, Google Drive, Box.Net, Evernote, and email. Setup is easy and just requires running a piece of software initially to configure things. They also kept my favorite feature, scan to memory card, which will scan images to PDF and save them on a memory card inserted in the printer''s card reader. Turning on a file sharing feature will allow you to access those files over your home network.

Configuration on my Mac was incredibly easy. I didn''t have to install any drivers and the printer appeared immediately after I configured it to access my home wifi network. It also showed up on my list of printers on my iPhone and iPad. Very cool.

Bottom line: This printer tries to do it all but doesn''t do a very good job of it. If you''re looking for a home or small office all-in-one consider one of the Epson Workforce printers and buy a second printer for photo prints.

I was ready for a new printer and having had a prior Epson printer and currently having an Epson scanner, I researched various Epson printers and despite having no reviews on Amazon at the time, I dove for this one. What first struck me with this printer, is that it seemed fragile and fussy. Not a good start, but given the durability of other printers have not been an issue, we''ll see how it goes. Only time will address this.

Out of the box, there was lot of blue tape to remove. Apparently there are a lot of moving parts that have to be secured to ship this item. I would say about 25-30 and loads of clear plastic.

The scanner multi-feed tray closes nicely giving the printer a sleek look, but at the slightest press it snaps open. One of my cats were startled to discover this option. I''m concerned that these plastic components seem fragile. Hopefully this action will keep my cat from stepping on this printer in the future, but anyone who has cats know that what they are allowed to do and what they do when you are not home are two different things. I hope they don''t break it.

QUICK START SETUP WAS SEAMLESS

The Quick start guide walked us through a simple bunch of steps. Including plugging it in and installing software on our computer, as well as putting paper in it. One thing it suggested us to do was to connect to a computer for initial setup, which I balked at. I didn''t buy a wireless printer to set it up tethered. Luckily it had a direct to wireless option, that I used seamlessly to punch in the long WPA2 password for our router security. Worked great.

It was a very quick and easy start up and in under 30 minutes we were printing. 10 minutes of that was removing blue tape.

FINDING PAPER TRAY WAS DIFFICULT:

It took me the longest to figure out where to put the paper. As short as this printer is, there are multiple paper trays. One for pictures, one for paper, one for CDs and even a back input for on the fly paper additions. The output tray glides out by itself, which I thought was pretty cool.

NICE UI DISPLAY:

The LCD display looks nice and is clean and easy to figure out. I keep trying to press the down arrows on the display, but some were so close to other icons, I kept hitting those. They had up/down arrows to the right of the LCD that worked fine though. However when are poking at a touch screen, you don''t notice them.

PRINT FROM MOBILE SETUP WAS AWFUL:

Another reason I had opted to get a new printer, was to use the print from phone, or tablet option. Epson connect is something that provides this and I don''t think I have had more difficulty than this in a long time setting something up. I have an Android phone and an iPad. Both easily found the app. However initiating this option for the printer on the computer was a maddening experience. Finding info on the main Epson site was impossible. Apparently all the info is on the Epson connect site. We needed an Epson printer email that took a day and a half to obtain, only because the site had a circular logic to it. While I registered the printer, and Epson acknowledged it, this was not visible to me in my account settings at the main Epson site. This seemed to be necessary to unlock the epson email address to my printer. My printer was not acknowledging this, so I could not install the software. We spent a lot of time and hazarded on to the solution more by accident than design. I can''t recommend this. They need to fix this process as it was painful and if not for our persistence beyond all reason, this would have never gotten sorted out. Every time I looked for something in the site, it gave me all the steps after I had the email address. However it never really told me how to get this email address. It told me where it would be(sort of, as they didn''t call the things the same name from one area to the next)...but not how to get to the step to initialize it (registering). As a usability engineer, I know they need work on testing this process and getting the instructions in line. Better yet, make it seamless. More of us want prints from our mobile devices. This is not a "me too" option but more important than they realize..

Also I wrote an email to the first Epson connection in this search for information and instead of help, I received a note telling me I had written to the accessories division and I had to write to a different location to get help. Shame on you. What would it take to forward this note to the right parties? You are both representing the same company. When I received a reply from the "right" division, it was a form letter using keywords from my note sending me back to same useless locations, that I had already tried....which I had included in my letter.

Once I had the print to mobile working, I could print from stuff on my phone/ipad and even scan to my phone. I''m still seeing how well that works. I tried to print from my Google drive and it was sporadic. I printed a spreadsheet that the orientation was wrong on. Since I had previously printed this same spreadsheet out in the correct orientation, I don''t know why it was wrong here. No small issue as it took a page that would have printed in 1 page to 5. No idea how to fix it and I could not print Google documents. It kept saying failure to transfer error -15. Not very helpful mind you. I did however scan to google docs, which was kind of cool. I will use this more.

LCTM CLIENT ADDED FROM THE EPSON SOFTWARE IS A MEANS OF ADVERTISING

Generally when I add software to my computer from a manufacturer whose product I purchased I don''t expect them to push spam. Yeah I know an occasional tool bar, but not a whole program. However I ended up getting something called the LCTM client that is an advertisers means of getting directly to me. Epson would also sent me offers through this but it was also for 3rd party advertisers as well. Shame on you Epson, I bought your commodity (the printer) and you will make more than enough money from me through the ink to make it worth your while, you don''t have to sell me off as a client from the get go.

I would like to say, when I complained about the print from Mobile setup above. I also did so directly to the company. It is very likely they repaired the circular link that was part of my frustration. I''m a savvy computer person and was floored that I could not get the links to get me where I needed to go. I had another seasoned computer person look over my shoulder to see what the issue was and they too, were frustrated with the inability to complete the steps stated. Could have been a fluke, but once it was resolved it all seemed to work. You see that''s the thing about a review. It was my personal first time use... I can''t speak for anyone else. I can say the printer works very well and gets weekly use. We don''t push the limits. I have printed mostly black and white documents. Soon, I need to change the black ink. I have copied and have scanned and sent it to a network computer. I''m very pleased with the printer to date and despite the issues of the mobile setup would recommend this printer to anyone.

I still am not thrilled about including the LCTM client in the software package as it if is to my benefit. To me when you pay for something you are entitled to not have to deal with ads. Most people install everything they get and don''t read.. Just seems seedy.

I have an old HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One that decided to fade and add lines on my scanned docs. I came to the conclusion that it would cost just as much to repair vs buying a new scanner/printer, so the hunt began with...The Epson WF3520 I purchased about 2 days ago (from a local dept store) & I wrote a good review on it. As much as I loved that printer, I returned it to get an actual touch screen model vs a touch panel (which is what the WF3520 had).

So, I purchased the HP PS7520 thinking I was getting a better quality/more updated multifunction than the WF3520. Boy was I wrong! It had a full touch screen & scan to email (without PC), but that''s as far as it goes. There was no automatic double side scan, you had to manually flip the papers & put them back in the feeder. The HP web apps are a joke and the size of the printer is HUGE! Once again, I was on the hunt and back at the customer service counter doing another return.

Then came the Epson XP 800. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PRINTER. The price could''ve been a little bit cheaper but that''s just me. Set up was a breeze. It flawlessly connected with my Windows 7 PC, Google Drive, Cloud Print, and Dropbox. The features are great and easy to use. I''m going to have a blast with the CD/DVD printing! I use the Epson iPrint app on my Samsung Galaxy S3 to scan & print docs. The ePrint feature to a customized email address is pretty cool. The automatic double side scan is the best and the automatic output tray is an added bonus. I do agree with other reviews I''ve seen about the output tray retracting. However, I''m assuming the printer would need a sensor to know when the printed docs are removed in order to retract. Otherwise, where would the printed docs go...I''ll leave it up to Epson to implement that on the next model.

Overall, it''s a great product! I hope this was my last trip to the return counter...LOL. So if you''re on the hunt like I was for an all-in-one replacement, look no further...Epson XP 800 is the way to go!

Some of the photos are coming out a little darker than the originals or other slight color differences. I am hoping to be able to make the proper adjustments. After a reload of the OS, my old HP laser was no longer compatible with my Mac computer, so I went looking for a color laser that did duplex printing (trying to be a bit green). My use is at home for personal as well as some business printing.

The set up was easy and the instructions clear. Printing in B&W single sided is fast and of high quality. I find the color printing to be a bit muted and not photo-like, but still acceptable. The biggest negative is the duplex printing. It works, but... When I select two-sided printing, it takes forever to print. It is so slow that I have given up using it completely. As I was hurrying out of the house on a road trip, I tried to print a Google map in duplex, and it took so long I simply left the house without the map. I don''t know what is going on inside, but this is so bad I''m shocked it ever was released.

Once I ignore duplex printing, and treat it like a nice feature I will rarely if ever use, then I am generally satisfied with the printer and recommend it for the price.

I''ve had this printer for over a year in my workplace, and it has been excellent for everything except printing envelopes. This is our networked printer, so our 5-person office all use it. We do a lot of printing and a lot of it is graphical and colorful.

When it comes to printing a single envelope, it jams the printer. We get around that by printing labels instead or using a different network printer to do envelopes. It was out of warranty when I discovered the issue; I wonder if it was a manufacturer''s defect in our machine (and may not be a problem in most machines.)

Print speed is very fast (it just takes about 15 seconds to warm up before first page out, then easily prints text only at 30 pages per minute (ppm)). It takes a long time to print graphics-heavy PowerPoint presentations, but if you''re printing multiple copies of a presentation, the first print is very slow and subsequent copies are quicker. Color graphics are excellent and crisp, and so is black text.

I would recommend this printer as long as you don''t need to print envelopes.

I replaced an aging tank-like Konica-Minolta color laser which never worked right and cost a fortune to maintain. This printer has worked fine with Mac OSX in a wireless Airport Express environment for two years. It did have a failed power supply for the fuser which gave error messages. It was fixed in home for free. I have been pleased with the cost of replacement cartridges. They seem to last longer than my former color laser and cost less than half to replace. You are replacing toner only, not an entire roller assembly. The toner is available everywhere. It is not fast at start-up nor when printing Adobe PDF''s. I upgraded memory and added a second paper drawer. For some reason when the paper runs out on the top drawer, it does not automatically shift to the next drawer as other printers do. Maybe this is a software issue that I have not found.

Pros: Less expensive toner replacement than others; Has worked with Mac OSX; Has a single feed slot; compact.

Cons: Slow start-up time. Duplexing feature is external-you need to remove each page as it is processed so that the multiple pages do not get drawn back into the unit and jam. If you do a lot of duplexing, look elsewhere; does not automatically switch paper drawers when empty.

I was very impressed with the speed and quality of the color printing when using the standard page sizes. However, when I added the 650 page add on tray in order to get the statement sized paper feeder, (5.5" X 8.5"), the printing slows down to about 8 10 ppm. I have been in contact with Lexmark regarding this issue, nothing that I have tried has helped the speed, and I have the feeling that this is simply the best it will do. I still think it is the best printer for the money, but if a business expected to use the statement feeder for volumes of printing, they would be quite disappointed.

I would love to give this a 5-star review from the start, but because of the setup and early operation problems I had I just can''t. I do wonder if some of the problems might be attributed to Amazon--no proof of that!--but I do suspect I got a slightly used printer, perhaps one of those returned by the dismayed fellow reviewing below.

First problem out of the box: No printer cable. All documentation in their manual say a cable should have been included. But the cable from my inkjet worked on it, a standard printer cable, so that wasn''t a big problem for me.

Setup was easy, following along their included instructions. I did wonder at the amount of toner powder inside the printer at various points (one thing that made me think it might have been a bit used). All set up, with printer drivers installed and... nothing. Didn''t work.

Call to tech support, about a 10 minute wait time. Be prepared for a tech support call--get a flashlight, screwdriver (Phillips), lens cleaning cloth, paper towels, a flat clean surface to place big components, and magnifying glass or reading glasses if needed for close, small, fine work.

The first problem, the total non-op, was fixed by removing a back plate and reseating some cables. Then it printed. Second problem was "voids" in the black portion of the printing (color was fine). These were invisible lines running the full length of the page. Online help suggestions first recommendation was a new toner cartridge. Well, I wasn''t going to waste a full, very expensive toner cartridge, so was able to reformat my (rush) print job to get around the voids and did a huge print job. After that, with the new toner cartridge not fixing the problem, another session with tech support had me take the printer apart again and clean a glass strip which had gobs of toner obscuring it.

Super! Now the printer reaches the 5-star portion of its review.

With everything working as it ought, this printer is dazzlingly, deliciously fast. Color and/or black and white, the pages fly out. I did a two-sided 900 page print job in a matter of hours. That''s about 3600 printed sheets. When asked how long this would have taken with the inkjet, I answered, "Does that include the five trips to Walmart to get more ink cartridges?"

And the quality is stunning. The colors are gorgeously saturated, the lines sharp. None of the wet ink or moisture problems of an inkjet. The pages look fabulous.

The black toner cartridge that comes with the printer printed well past its maximum total number of pages. The second black toner cartridge started to say "low" _before_ it''s maximum number of pages. One downside--once it says a cartridge is "low", do not shut the printer off! It printed perfectly for hundreds of pages after it said it was low, but shutting it off overnight apparently sent it to "empty" and it refused to print any more.

The duplexer... it''s fast. It works well. It never jammed. But, oh my goodness, what a mess it made spewing papers all over the place. If you have any duplex job over 10 pages or so, especially if you want it collated, you''re better off doing one side at at time, flipping them and sending them back through for side two. The output pages stay reasonably neat on single-sided but are a mess duplexed.

Only about 100 pages at a time in the standard paper tray. I''m uncertain of the larger paper tray because of the mess it would make in the output tray. More than 50 or so sheets in the output tray and they start falling on the floor.

This printer is said to be an "Energy Star" printer. That''s just funny. My office lights dim when this power sponge prints.

So, a three-star review for a five-star printer that I (now) love.

**Added the additional memory--easy to do, took off the same back plate (6 screws) I had to take off to reseat the cables to make it work in the first place. Stick the memory in. Printer recognized it immediately. Here''s the odd part, though, it seems *slower* with the added memory! Printing is just as fast but the wait time until the printing starts seems a bit longer. I have not tried a huge, complex print job yet, however, so that may be where the added memory pays off. BIG CATCH: The added memory for this printer from any "official" source was about $600. We paid $30 for the same new memory card. Shop around and don''t overpay!

**Added the large second paper tray. So far so good. Installation is nothing--just set the printer on top of the added paper tray. A couple experiments on the computer with tray selection and it worked perfectly.

I like others have owned several canon printers including the IP5200 and IP4500, which I had modified to print on CDs like the european version so liked that the 4920 finally did it. I got the 4920 to replace my wifes 5200 that has a bad print head, because the 4920 is cheaper than the 5200 print head. The main problems with the 4920 is that it prints darker and adds a red tinge to what the photos show on my editing software packages. I also don''t like the smaller cartridges like everyone else who is used to working with the larger clear tanks where you can see what''s left and makes sure your new ones are full.

I was getting ready to send it back when I figured a work around for the color problem on the photo printing. You can download an Adobe RGB 1998 installer program (only.32mb) from Canon support, 4920, drivers & software and install it.

Then when you set up your print preferences like before, select you photo paper type, size, high quality print, borderless,etc., but on the color/intensity choose Manual and then hit Set, there are two tabs that appear. Under the Color Adjust tab I used -10 on the Cyan and -10 on the Intensity and under the Matching tab use ICM, and then choose Adobe RGB as my input profile, and in the Rendering area I choose Perceptual, which is best for photos. After that I hit OK and went back to quick setup tab and hit Save, saving the setting as custom profile (glossy photo 4x6) or whatever you want to call it to match your paper. Next time you go to print photos all you have to do hit your custom setting under the quick tab and it will be ready to go.

Keep in mind you may have to vary the colors or intensity differently to get them to match your screen, but I think this will be close, as most complaints reference the same problem with being dark and excess red. This just requires playing with the color and intensity setting and printing the same picture a few times till you match the screen.

I should qualify this by saying up front that I like Canon products. I have a Canon S5is camera and a Canon 9000F scanner, both of which have served me marvelously. I also had a Canon ip4500 printer which I loved but which was reaching the end of it''s life (on/off button not functioning properly among other things. But, hey, four years is pretty good these days.

The new Pixma ip4920 (and it''s so new that I couldn''t register it online because Canon hasn''t listed it on the site)is nearly identical to the Pixma ip4820 except that now it includes built-in CD/DVD label printing. This was available on the ip4500 in Europe, but for some reason not in the U.S. I used to have an Epson that printed CD labels (remember to buy blank CD/DVD''s that are inkjet printable) but it was incredible slow and always having problems. On the ip4920 this feature is a gem! Just click on the appropriate setting in Easy Photo Ex, design your label (or use a pre-formatted one), click print, open the door and insert the CD/DVD holder. Takes about a minute to print.

Also, like the ip4500 and the ip4820, this is a full-duplex printer. Just select Duplex and the printer does one side of the paper, then re-inserts it and prints the other. This function does take a bit more time, but it''s sure easy and if you have a 20 page document, much less tiring than taking papers in and out.

Oh. You probably want to know about print quality. Really, really, good. No, make that great. I was already very happy with the print quality of my ip4500, but after printing a photo on the ip4920 without making any adjustments (you can make manual adjustments to the color balance and intensity) I compared with an old print from the ip4500 and was impressed with the richness and detail and on a Greyscale photo, the blacks seemed richer with much less of the unwanted magenta overcast of the old prints.

If you are worried about longevity, go to the Canon website and select "Accessories" when you bring up the ip4920. Canon offers a three year warranty for $50. On the other hand, if a new printer cost less than $100 and comes with $80 worth of ink, it might just be simpler to junk it when it starts to malfunction and get a new one.

Complaints? Yes. This printer uses Chromalife CLI-226 inks. The ip4500 used CLI-8 cartridges. The difference? CLI-2 cartridges are hold about 20% less ink. This is a bummer although it''s possible that the ip4920 is more economical in it''s use of ink. That said, smaller ink cartridges are becoming standard in all new printers and I otherwise love this thing. Hmmm? No, there are currently no generic refill cartridges available but I''m sure that by the tyime I run out of ink, someone will have them for sale.

ADDENDUM: I just looked and Amazon now lists a third-party ink supplier for CLI-226 cartridges if you are so inclined (i''ll stay with the OEM stuff.)

This is a very versatile printer that is also environmentally friendly, and I''ve had no issues with the printer at all. Multiple ink cartridges allow you to replace only the colors that get used up so you don''t have to throw away unused ink. Automatic 2-sided printing works like magic, saving paper with ease. Two paper trays allow you to easily use the appropriate paper grade suitable for each print job you are doing. And the best feature (this is why I purchased this printer) is the capability to print on CD or DVD disks! Wow! What a beautiful job it does printing a cover photo and title right on the DVD. Very nice! The only feature it lacks is Wi-Fi, but for under $100 you can''t find a better printer.

I''ve been living with my Canon Pixma iP4920 for two weeks now, so although I can''t provide a long-term review, I will let you know how it''s been so far.

The reason I bought this printer and not any others was for its CD printing function. Out of the box, the software they give is so bloated (>100MB) and really awful. I wasn''t able to print any labels that I created in an external editor, so I tried a few programs listed on Canon''s website as 3rd party programs compliant with the printer. Using the ones I tried (SureThing and another uncreatively named program) I was unable to get the prints to be centered and without overrun of the ink. It seems this printer is relatively new and is not in the default templates of the programs so you''d have to put in the mm offsets yourself.

After a bit of searching, in which I was hardly frustrated at all, I found a free utility on Canon''s Europe site called CD-LabelPrint. It is a really straightforward, lightweight, simple, and altogether exactly what I needed. I was able to import the jpg''s of CD''s I have created, and expand it to fit perfectly with the ability to save the projects in case I want to re-print in the future.

However, since the utility is for Canon''s Europe printers it doesn''t have the iP4920 template. After a bit of foolin'' around, I found that by using offsets: TOP 0.3mm and LEFT 0.1mm in the print menu yielded the best, most centered prints.

Aside from the CD printing, the only thing to mention would be that this printer cleans, or maintenance''s itself very often. You''ll try to print something and it''ll whir and spin and have a jolly good time dillydallying while you wait for your prints. The cynic in me says this is only done to waste ink to screw me over in costs down the line, but that idea remains to be corroborated.

I''d buy this printer again if you''d ask me today. And I can only hope that I helped you make your decision with this review.

The math in the previous review was incorrect. At 9 ml for the Standard cartridge, and 13 ml for the XL cartridge, the costs are as follows:

Standard $20.43 -$2.27 per ML

XL $26.99 - $2.08 per ML

So, yes... the larger capacity XL cartridge is a better buy.

You can get 13ml of ink in the XL, 44% more than the 9ml in the regular 211. And it isn''t much more expensive. So don''t buy this one, buy the 211XL.

Using second cartridge in a new printer so I don''t really know how long this one will last. However, the canon cartridges that were in the printer when purchased were short lived. If these are similar then it will be cheaper to buy a new printer with cartridges included than to purchase the cartridges alone. (I paid 39.00 for the printer),
