Dell USB Photo Printer 540 w/Card Reader

I''ve had this printer for over 5 years and am continually disappointed by the photo quality. At first it printed ok, but then a scratch appeared in every single photo in the same spot. The pictures I first printed out now look discolored and cheap.

Take note... you MUST have a digital or offset printer or press capable of printing on at least 11x17. In my case, I was only able to get these to work on my digital press that handles up to 12x18 press sheets my copier that handles 11x17 wouldn''t print on the tabs (I''m assuming that a sensor inside the machine would read them as 11x8.5 instead of 11x9, even though I tried a variety of manual configurations in an attempt to get it to work.

Printing on the digital press was quick and easy. No jamming. No misprints. My only complaint is that they''re a little lighter in weight than I''d like, but overall, for the price, they work perfect. If you have the equipment that''ll print them properly, these are a good buy.

These are exactly the type of dividers with tabs that I needed. I realize that these dividers are supposed to go through an off-set printer for the tab portion. However, we want to print up our own labels for the tabs. I can''t believe Avery has no self-adhesive laser printable label that will fit these tabs. But I called Avery and they said NO. Going to look for them elsewhere.

New Epson America Business Inkjet B-310N Inkjet Printer Color Plain Paper Print USB Fast Ethernet PC

New Epson America Business Inkjet B-310N Inkjet Printer Color Plain Paper Print USB Fast Ethernet PCI got tired of buying the typical home variety printers. Been through about 6 already. Poor quality, slow and you have to pawn your first born to buy ink. My used printers do make great door stops and flower planters for the office. This printer is solidly built, fast, good quality text and photo, LAN capable and most of all it has he-man size ink tanks that cost only a few bucks more than those wimpy little ones. So far, I''m impressed with this printer. I hope it doesn''t disappoint me.

I purchased this printable fabric to make a retirement lap quilt. I was very pleased with the quality and whiteness of the fabric which produced very nice results when photos and messages were printed on it. I also use this to print my quilt labels on. I will never go back to any other brand. This is the best!

I have made two memory quilts using this product that have turned out beautifully. The quality of printing is excellent and easy to do. Buying in bulk saves you a bundle and shipping is faster than a speeding bullet. I would highly recommend using this fabric sheet over others. Follow easy directions and you will have a beautiful product in the end. I can say after two washes the pictures are holding up excellent. I would def. give it a 10 star rating if I could.

HP Universal Bond Paper
  • A low-cost paper that''s perfect for black-and-white and color line drawings.
  • Universally compatible with HP DesignJet printers and non-HP large format printers.
  • Produces crisp line resolution and high-contrast color prints.

We use this paper to print scientific posters that often stay up in our hallways for years. Using this paper, they barely fade at all. If we use the semi-gloss, they fade within a few months. So while semi-gloss gives a nice look for short term purposes, like taking a poster to a conference, this "cheaper" paper is much better for long-term use.

It was pretty cheap and I managed to misjudge the weight of the paper. So far, pretty much any amount of ink from my 10600 will make it wrinkle. I even took the total in limit down to 100%. I will get this figured out, but I was a little surprised at how poorly this took ink.

Bought these to use as labels for hershey kisses for a baby shower. Found several places that would print them for you but the prices were too high. These are perfect for the purpose, reasonably priced and the avery website online template was very easy to use. They also are the right size for the individually wrapped rollo candies, and probably several other types of wrapped candies as well, basically if the item is about the size of the base of a hershey kiss these would work. Love that I can put any image and text on them as well so they can be truly personalized.

Usually the combination of "Avery" and "MS Word" mean you will have fairly smooth sailing when printing labels, but these 3/4" round Avery labels are an exception:

1) The labels are NOT on an 8.5 X 11 Sheet. They are on a sheet about the size of a postcard. Therefore you should be sure that they will feed into your printer before purchasing. If I had known this ahead of time I would have purchased these 8.5 X 11 labels instead: OfficeSmart 108 UP 3/4 Diameter .75 inch Avery 5408 Compatible Circle Round White Labels Stickers 50 Sheets. It''s just one less thing to worry about.

2) As a side note, my copy of Word 2003 with SP3 did not have the correct template (box says to use 5472 template). I tried to download the Avery Wizard for MS Office from their site, but it was 94MB in size. Why?? Instead I found a better option. You can send an email to ''templates@averydennison.com'' with the product number of you labels in the subject line (in this case 5408), and Avery will send you a Word document by return mail formatted for the labels. It works!

I may be being a bit harsh here with 2 stars, but it''s because these labels are not laid out on an 8.5 X 11 sheet. Labels are tricky enough without complicating things with odd size paper types. They jammed up in my HP 7000 series multifunction printer quite badly. ;

Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels

Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels
  • CD design and applications kit
  • Avery Design Pro software
  • 24 white matte labels
  • 6 white matte inserts
  • Clip art, photos, and pre-designed layouts

I''ve used CD Stomper for well over two years and I can attest that it is very easy to use. The software is intuitive and the labels look amazing on the CD (especially if you use the glossy labels with photographic level images.) I am a self proclaimed neat-nick and these labels have really dressed up my audio CD backups, software archive discs and DVD discs. Until recently I have been a devoted CD Stomper user and advocate.

BEWARE! The glossy labels will warp the disc over time. I''ve never used the thinner, matte labels so have no experience with them or their archival quality. I went to view a DVD archive that I had labeled about 18 months ago and the discs are warped beyond usability. Thinking it must be inferior media (Datawrite brand) I started to check my archived discs and older audio CDs. The media brands of these other discs include: Maxell, Memorex, Philips, Sony, and Verbatim. They all are exhibiting the warping to varying degrees all based on age. The longer the label is affixed to the disc, the more it will warp it. When pealing a label off the backing before it is applied you will notice an extreme curve toward the printed side. Who would guess that a piece of paper could exert enough force to bend a plastic CD?

Buy Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels Now

This is the only way to go if you want professional looking CD labels. Whether you''re using them just for fun with your personal CD collection or you''re producing professional products for sale, this is the right product for you!

Despite some other reviews, this product does NOT warp discs! You must use common sense when using products! This kit comes with a base (the stomper) and you just place the label sticky side up on the base and place the CD onto the label. You don''t have to use force to apply the label. Following these guidelines will produce perfectly centered labels every time! However, if you apply a great deal of force when applying the label, you should probably expect some damage to your disc. Once again, use common sense. This is a simple product, so just follow the directions without adding your own, and you''ll be fine!

I use this product to label CDs of audio sermons at my church. It works great! You can use any photo you have or will take, or you can use one of the many photos that come with the kit. The software only took me about fifteen minutes to become familiar with. Once I had that down, the only thing left was having fun with the designs. This software has limitless possibilities, and I really enjoy the feature that lets you add ANY photo as a background for a label!

Whatever your task, this product will give you the WOW effect!

Highly recommended to all!

As a person who spent months of aggrevation dealing with this company, I''d like to offer a warning to anyone considering using this product.

In 2003, I purchased this software as part of a "CD STOMPER" package. Moments after installing it, I was told I needed an upgrade. After spending an unecessary amount of time getting the upgrade via online download, the problems continued. Without getting into detail, the long and short of it was that the product was not functioning as described: Images were being resized without my consent, and printed images were consistently poor in quality even when the source files were 600dpi.

After multiple attempts to contact tech support via the website, an employee finally answered me in one of the online forums. Unfortunately, not only was the help ineffective, but his responses were few and far between. Eventually, anything I posted was ignored. In addition, users with similar issues were also ignored.

I then tried contacting the company via email, and the responses were even slower. I decided to try the website once more, only to find that my IP had been banned from posting. I was furious, and decided to call the company ASAP.

After getting the runaround, I was told QUOTE: "my comments were not constructive to the tech support forum," and that, technically I was "not a click n design customer." According to the person on the phone, I had purchased their software as part of a "CD STOMPER" package that was put together by Avery. When I told them that I was using an upgrade that Click N'' Design had been given to me DIRECTLY BY STOMP via registered online download, the person on the phone claimed that I was "really not supposed to have that version," and that I was "given that version out of the goodness of their hearts" (no lie). They then indicated that access to the tech support area of their site was banned, and that I wasn''t a customer. I told them that if I was ignored, I''d be forced to contact the local office of the Better Business Bureau, and I hung up.

Shortly thereafter, I forwarded my concerns to the Avery corporation, as well as any corporate contacts for the Stomp, Inc. company who put out Click ''n'' Design. Avery in particular was shocked and dismayed at the behavior of Stomp, Inc. After months of back and forth, the company finally decided to issue me a refund for the initial package purchase I made.

In closing, I must say that anyone and everyone should avoid this product and company. Their product was faulty, their tech support was rude and innefective, and their customer relations department was insulting and uneducated.

Don''t make the same mistake I did, folks.

Want Avery 98107 CD-Stomper Pro CD Applicator with Software and Labels Discount?

For years, I''ve labeled my CDs/DVDs with a permanent marker. Now that I''ve ventured out and bought a CD/DVD labelmaker, I''m stunned at the results! It''s very simple to follow the instructions given, or just trying things out ''trial and error''. Nothing''s simpler than just putting in an image either you''ve made or a CD/DVD label you download online, then you press print and stick the label on the applicator and press! Viola instant labels!

The only thing I''ve found is that all the labels included are matte/paper quality, anything more than that like glossy/photo quality is very expensive! Matte quality is standard and decent enough. I recommend having at least a good inkjet printer if you''re going to print photos on the labels, they do soak up ink!

I highly recommend this product, it''s quite addictive once you get the hang of it!!!

After a tragic encounter with some Fellowes DVD inserts, I was a little dismayed when I had to print disc labels. Of course, the Nero Cover Designer template did not line up properly. Luckily, Avery provides templates for Microsoft Word on their website--templates that actually WORK.

Granted, I did need to scale the image up a little to simulate a sort of "bleed", but with that small adjustment, I was able to print 4 sheets of 8 flawless labels.

Another great thing is the template they provide on the back of the instructions, so you can print a "test" without wasting a sheet of labels.

The CD Stomper itself would seem like a somewhat... banal invention, like nothing more than the spindle from a pack of DVD-Rs. But the advantage of the CD Stomper is that it "locks" the label into place with peel-off tabs, applying the label perfectly each time. And no force is required to adhere the label--gravity does it all.

The tabs easily come off leaving no residue if you do it carefully. I found that first folding it 45-60 degrees inwards helps to break the perforations. Then, start with one edge, and gently pull outwards (away from the center of the disc), not up.

Now, all that praise said, I do have one concern/confusion about the product: the front of the packaging says...

"Warning: These labels are not designed for DVDs, use CD Stomper DVD Labels intead"

...while everywhere else on the packaging, it says "CD/DVD Labeling System", "CD/DVD Labels", "CD/DVD Center Labels", "CD/DVD Jewel Case Spine Labels", etc.

Now, there obviously isn''t a "DVD Stomper" anywhere, and Avery only seems to sell "CD/DVD Labels". So I really don''t have any idea what this warning is referring to. I''ve burned all of the discs I applied labels to, and haven''t had any read/write problems. (I applied the label first, then burned.) They seem to work perfectly.

Another thing is that when making the "full-sized" disc labels (without punching out the middle), the center "punch-out" thing is very visible on finished discs because of the perforation. Not a real problem, just a tad annoying. (I''m sure full-sized labels are available for purchase somewhere...)

Overall, I am very pleased that I found a disc labeling product that actually works. I will definitely be buying a set of refill labels real soon!

Compatible Cannon 104 Compatible Toner Cartridge

Compatible Cannon 104 Compatible Toner Cartridge Fits Canon ImageClass D420, D480, MF4150, MF4270, MF4350d, MF4370dn, MF4690
  • One year guarantee

While the price of these units compared to the Canon brand ones is great, the page count of 2000 is severely off. In printing 100 copies of 6 double-sided pages (3 sheets of paper), I got through about 70 or so when big white streaks started to appear. Of course after realizing and a number of wasted pieces of paper later (and toner), I took the cartridge out and shook it and got maybe 3 or 4 more useful sets out. 75 * 6 = 450 pages of straight up text. I don''t know what % coverage that equals, but that lifespan is not acceptable. The Canon printer/copier is great with its duplexing and ADF, but compared to an old Brother HL-1440, which got thousands of thousands of prints on a cartridge, the constant replacement is not acceptable.

My next thing is going to be trying some of the toner powder refills (though I''ve read with these 104 cartridges that it''s a little more difficult in that you need to cut your own hole into the body) to see if that is better.

Buy Compatible Cannon 104 Compatible Toner Cartridge Now

The order process and shipping were fantastic. I received the order very quickly and inserted the ink cartridge. The first 15 20 pages printed well good quality with no problems. Then my computer began jamming and the toner would be smudged throughout the page if it actually went through the machine. I have taken the cartridge out and put it back in but each time, I still have paper jamming problems and toner misprints. I put the old toner cartridge in and even though the print is very light, the paper does not jam and when a page goes through the toner is not smudged all over the page. I am not sure if there is an incompatibility with the cartridge itself?? It seemed to slide well into the craddle and fit snuggly. I only have about 20 pages printed on a cartridge that can print up to 2000.

I tested their black toner, and right from the first usage, it left thick, horizontal lines across the pages at exactly the same places. So when I receive my orders from my clients, I couldn''t see important information most of the times. Stay away from ChromaCast.

Purchased this toner cartridge as the canon one is quite expensive, so wanted to try a generic. This cartridge was cheap and reviews were good, I purchased and received it in a timely manner. Packaging was done well and it fit directly into my canon printer. I installed the item 2 hours ago, printed around 250 pages of text (only, no pictures or large black areas)and already low toner warning. How can a 2000 page yield cartridge get so few pages, how? its 3/4 empty when you get it.

In short it may be cheaper than the canon, but if you use 8 times the cartridges it is not cheaper, by far more expensive.

Do yourself a favor, get the canon or risk another oem item, just forget this one, I have.

I was hoping all the negative reviews about the current Epson printers were exaggerated because Epson has the print quality I need plus the waterproof ink. Unfortunately the reports are mostly true. The paper handling on this printer is very squirrelly. Everything else works beautifully. Epson badly needs to improve their paper feed system. I think that the printer does fine with standard print paper and OK with premium paper if you are not printed double-sided. Even printing on a rainy day may be problematical. I have an idea that these printers may be closely calibrated for Epson brand papers only, and print unreliably on other brands. I am going to test this idea and update this review later.

UPDATE: Here''s the thing; unless you are printing on plain paper, you have to feed the sheets one by one or it just won''t pick them up in fewer than 5 tries. And it DOES seem to work better with Epson paper.

Buy EPSON Stylus NX330 Small-in-One - All-in-One Printer - Refurbished Now

Bought the NX330 to replace my Epson NX400 whose cyan print head permanently clogged or should I say I refused to pay the $60 in ink to use to clean the heads 4 TIMES to get it to unclog. Tossed it and bought the NX330 for $50 plus tax (its replacement ink costing more than that) at Walmart which actually was a big improvement over the year old NX400 I paid at OfficeMax for $70.

At least with NX330 I didn''t get the needle thin white trail markings across photos caused by pizza wheel paper guides as I did with the NX400 which I had to loosen the screws on its pizza wheel roller bar in order to raise them up off the paper. Unfortunately, doing this shortened the print area length on letter sized paper preventing borderless printing. I was ready to get rid of it anyway.

I really like the NX330 for its fast and sharp B&W photo copying. I never got any paper jams as others report. I even put 20 sheets of plain paper with one thick Ultra Premium Glossy Photo paper on top in the feeder and printed a photo and the printer only grabbed the photo paper and left the others behind without any jams.

I actually buy these cheap Epson "All In Ones" mostly for occasional 8x10 photos which are excellent enough for framing. As usual color matching is very close with a slight adjust to the blue channel in Photoshop''s Levels tool and I get pretty much spot on results to my calibrated Dell 2209WA LCD I bought on Amazon. See the image sample I included to show print match and quality.

My only slight gripe is the micro banding in the dark portions of my photos, but it''s so fine you can only see it with a magnifying glass. At least It''s a lot better than my NX400.

At these prices and ink cost these models can now be considered disposable devices if they ever break down or their heads clog requiring dumping a ton of ink to clear them. What a waste. You''ld think they''ld come up with another method of print head maintenance cleaning that didn''t involve such an expense.

I sell on Amazon, ebay, and also run a home based Business, So I rely on MY PRinter and need something Reliable and cannot afford problems with my main printer, I have owned 5 Printers/All in ones in the last 2-3 years! 3 of the the 5 being HP a Brother and a CAnon, I do use them alot, SCanning and printing mainly... But I would say out of the 5 previous to This EPSON all above $75.00 retail, NONE OF THEM PERFORMED AS EASY TROUBLE FREE AS THIS EPSON that was 1/2 1/3 of the price of the others... The others I kept getting HORRIBLE Support from HP. With the HP Products I was Experiencing about 70% Up time 30% of the time they were down, They were a Hassle. The Brother was Good for quite a while and did very good, especially since I did buy the Brother Used.

My First Ever Printer Was an Epson and it Ran for years of Beautiful printing, good priced ink, and reliability, For some time Epsons have been hard to find But recently saw this one on sale, and I rememberd How well my first EPSON Worked, And TOTALLY FED UP With all other Brands.. I bought it at a Great price of $49.00 and even used a coupon. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS EPSON:

1. VERY EASY TO SETUP! The Whole Setup took an Easy 10 minutes VERY SMOOTH! The WI-FI Setup Soooo EASY!

2. It is Very Quiet and smooth cradle/printhead movement opposed to any other brand. (MY HP''s moved and made Noises for 2-3 minutes for a mini 1/4 page print. This Epson gets to the point and Prints pretty fast without the noise and Extra movements of the other printers.

3. The PRINT QUALITY This color and print quality and sharpness of the prints Color and Black/White a EXCELLENT!

4. SO EASY TO USE on My First day using it I was backed up due to the dreaded HP Errors, I got done w/ Multiple Prints and scans, and Copies in a matter of minutes, Using it for the first time. A CHILD can Work This!

5. Very Smart or Advanced Scanner, with a Simple Button Press, Very Easy and Fast, High Quality SCans as well!

BOTTOM LINE I LOVE THIS PRINTER! IF I only had bought EPSON Product a year ago!?! This thing Rocks Out, SOOO EASY TO USE, and NO DOUBT ABOUT It the Best $40.00 I have Ever spent! This is one Epsons Cheaper Printers, and It outperforms my $95.00 HP''s and My $110 Brother, and $75 Canon Pixma, IT IS GREAT! EASY TO USE GREAT Quality Prints.

Only Downfall Not the Fanciest looking machine, But it is Very Compact for all that it does! And IT GETS THE JOB DONE FAST Without A SINGLE Problem So FAR. I am Convinced SIMPLER IS BETTER!

Save 17% off

I wish we never bought this printer. We''ve had nothing but errors, problems, and glitches ever since we took it out of the box. Some of the problems are it claims you''re out of ink when you''re not, it doesn''t recognize new ink cartridges when you do install them, it won''t even print in the color black if any of the other colors are empty, and it claims in can''t detect paper in the paper feed and refuses to print, when there IS paper in the paper feed. This is just the beginning, folks.

You''d think Epson would make a good printer by now. Oh, how I regret buying this printer. Nothing but struggling with it, and we''re busy people with better things to do than try to make sense out of a printer manufacturer''s inept, clumsy monster.

Canon imageCLASS MF4150 Laser Duplex P/s/c/f 21PPM Adf

Canon imageCLASS MF4150 Laser Duplex P/s/c/f 21PPM Adf
  • Compact multi-function unit prints, copies, color scans, and faxes
  • Up 21 ppm/cpm laser output speed
  • Duplex (2-sided) output; 35-sheet automatic document feeder
  • Up to 9600 dpi color scanning resolution
  • Dimensions 15.4 x 17.7 x 16.8 in. (WxHxD); weighs 28.2 pounds

I recently purchased this printer in an effort to free up more space in my home office. I replaced my laser printer, scanner and fax with this single compact unit and couldn''t be happier. As others have mentioned, the duplex printing feature is a MAJOR plus in my opinion a feature that they''ve seemed to include as a "freebie" and adds major points over competitors. The quick start guide was really simple and I was up and running in a matter of minutes.

A super quiet machine when not in use (thanks to the Energy Saving feature), I''ve used the printing features and the results are timely, crisp, clean pages with seemingly excellent paper handling (no jams so far). It''s got many more print options (2 on 1 page, 4 on 2 pages which is really 4 on 1 with the duplex option) and a ton of other cool features and capabilities that aren''t listed in the product description. I have sent and received faxes without a problem. Copying is just like using the larger machines: just lift the cover or use the document feeder to copy originals. I haven''t scanned anything yet, so I can''t comment on that particular functionality, but the manual mentions scanning to PDF which is what I really need and like.

Size is truly relative It is a bit larger (height and width) than my old laser printer (a Samsung); but does 4 times more work and its footprint is definitely smaller than the three units I replaced!

For less than $200 with free shipping, it''s solved my space problems and exceeded my expectations regarding functionality and quality. A great deal, imo. I highly recommend!!

Awesome:

1. Very quiet.

2. Goes in to hibernate quickly to save energy and bursts back to life instantly when needed.

3. Great print quality.

4. Does it all (except for color)including fax, copy, scan, and duplex printing.

5. Duplex printing saves a lot of resources (paper and money).

6. Most of the settings and buttons are user friendly.

Not so awesome:

1. The manual that comes with it is nice and easy to read and use, but skips too many "advanced features". For advanced features you must look at the online .pdf guides.

2. Even with the advanced guide, it is not immediately obvious to me how to set up the machine so it will screen calls as phone or fax. It wants to answer all calls as a fax machine. I need to experiment more with the available (but confusing) settings that should fix this.

I like having a do it all printer but also realized I no longer need or want color. Here''s why:

1. Printing photos at home is not what the marketing would like us to believe. Sending photos to Kodak or Shutterfly (or any online photo printer) is cheaper, of better quality, and of more archival quality than printing at home. It also offers more choices of print size and paper quality and so forth. It''s just not quite as fast. Email the photos in and have them in a few days or a week at most.

2. Color inkjet printers do not work well long enough. They frustrate me as contributing too greatly to our throw away society. It is cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy ink, print heads and other needed repairs that come up after a year or two of use.

This Canon is great and it is unreal that it lists at such a low price for the quality and functions you get.

I bought this printer after I found that 1) fewer and fewer places carry toner for my Samsung SF-555P Multi-function printer and 2) I really need duplex printing. This Canon machine is one of the few, if not only, product out there right now with dupex *and* multifunction built into a single monochrome laser unit.

This is a brand new model as of Novermber 2006. I had bought and returned a HP Laserjet 3055 multi-function unit, after I found that it does not have duplex built-in. I almost bought a dupex laser printer from brother, HL-5250DN, for about the same amount of money (~$200).

This Canon unit has energy saver feature so it is very quiet when not in use. I liked the printer driver. It is easy to use and uses the same type of user interface as the one found in my Canon i860 ink printer. And, yes, it has duplex printing!!!!

Since I have only had the printer for a week, I have not used it extensively but evrything seems to work well. Its footprint is bigger than my old samsung unit but still relatively small, despite it has a cover and an automatic feeder for copying. I like how it does not have a built-in phone; I can always hook up a cheap phone if I wanted to. A built-in phone would make the unit less pleasing to the eye. It is a very pretty machine (boy, am I a geek). I like how I can now pull up the cover, set down a store receipt and copy with a push of a single button.

The only downside is that once the starter toner is all used up, a regular replacement toner is good for 2000 pages, as opposed to 3000 pages, which is what other manufacturers typically rate their replacement toners for. But I think even with a 3000 page toner, I replaced toners once every other year so this shouldn''t be too big a deal.

I am all set for the next year''s tax filing. Bring it on!

I spent less than $250 and all I have to do to scan to PDF is:

1. Put originals on Auto Document Feeder

2. Press the SCAN button

3. Press the Start button

My multi-page searchable and selectable PDF opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Wow! Amazon sells less capable machines that can only scan to PDF in black and white only and without a flat bed scanner for $450-650 making this the best bargain on the planet. I admit I had to play with the driver settings in the Canon Toolbox to get the settings I want (scan to PDF, not JPG, grayscale, not color...) but I didn''t have to read the manual and the thing is incredibly intuitive to use. I can''t believe how fast it scans the documents. The ADF just sucks them right in like an industrial machine. I tried a new HP at Staples for $200 and it took forever to micro-feed the page in the ADF inching its way very slowly.

I did notice that even though the PDF looks nearly perfect, when I copy and paste into a text file some of the letters may be missing, especially if the original is italics, a funny font, or right near a graphic. Not a big deal for me but might be if you are a contract lawyer. I did NOT install the freebie third party software and I did not try the OCR setting in the Canon Toolbox so for all I know it''s easily resolved using one of those two options. I don''t care enough to find out. The scans are also skewed ever so slightly sideways when fed through the ADF. This is not enough of an issue if you''re trying to share documents or submit receipts and if you need art and publishing grade scanning you probably want a dedicated scanner anyway.

The Canon driver and Toolbox is all you need. I''m not a fan of freebie teaser software that comes bundled with printers and is a challenge to uninstall. The Canon CD gives you the Custom option to not install programs you don''t want. Thank you Canon!

Set up was relatively fast. I slowed myself down by reading the entire quick start guide first since this is my first laser printer and I didn''t feel like screwing anything up. The only thing the install program does not do for you is set the "Canon MF4100 Series UFRII LT" as your default printer. I figured that out on my own when I clicked print and the computer wanted to print to the old printer that I had already removed. Right-click on the "Canon MF4100 Series UFRII LT" in "Printers and Faxes" and choose "Set as Default Printer" to resolve that issue. I''ve also tested 2 sided printing and it works like a charm.

2 sided copying:

One reviewer complained that this machine does not do 2 sided copying. I still have yet to read the manual but all I did was push the "COPY" button, then the "2-Sided" button then "Collate/2 on 1" button, put two papers on the ADF and pressed Start. One double-sided copy of both originals came out just as I expected. For all I know I pushed one button too many but it still did what I expected it to do.

This thing is seriously feature-laden. There are a lot of buttons on the control panel that are clearly labeled and look intuitive and while I probably should check out the manual to get a clue as to what are the many things it can do, the truth is I have no intention of ever reading the manual. For printing documents, scanning and 2-sided copying I didn''t have to ready any instructions and those are the features I will use most. I can''t believe how many features they packed in at this price point and that the ones I need actually work fast and reliably.

For one person or a small office of up to 4 people I think this canon is all you need. I would not want a group of 100 users slamming on this thing. It does not look designed for that. I suspect that''s why it costs $250 and not 3 times more. An industrial machine would have a tougher paper tray that could withstand careless slamming and a rock solid output/paper catch instead of a plastic tabs sticking out. Not that it''s a flimsy or weak looking plastic tab. It feels solid. But it''s not a large workgroup machine. A large workgroup machine would also be rated for printing tens of thousands more pages per month than this thing probably is. I rarely print more than 100 pages per month and for me this is fine.

While I can tell it''s not meant to support a group of 100 users and the printing volume that comes with that, I do NOT feel that the Canon looks fragile or poorly constructed. It looks like it should give me years of trouble free use. I have yet to see anything else in this price range with these features. Good job, Canon.

I picked this up for the front desk at my wife''s orthodontic practice, where space is severely restricted. The essential requirements were: a flatbed scanner (not sheet-fed), ADF, good laser printing speed and quality, and all in as small a package as possible. This unit delivers beautifully on all fronts, and delivers some very nice bonuses to boot, such as automatic duplexing (including printing from the computer and 2-1 copying, but not 2-2 copying). The only thing missing that would have been nice is an Ethernet interface, but this is readily solved with printer sharing (not for scanning over the network, but you can send faxes this way).

Plus:

* Very fast time to first page, even from sleep mode. The warm up time is virtually zero, unlike my Dell 1600n, which seems to take forever to get cranked up (the Dell does, however, have a slightly faster ADF and network attachment).

* Very compact probably as small as you can get for a device with this specific feature set. NOTE: for legal paper output, the print tray winds up protruding significantly from the normal footprint; again, not something most people will use, and it''s nice that you have the option without purchasing an extra paper tray.

* Nice quality for text and simple graphics printing. Not as good for complex greyscale, but that''s not what it''s used for.

* Scans to PDF via the standalone control application

* Flexible copy options

* Automatic duplexing printer (not scanner)

* Very competent fax

* Easy-to-understand front panel buttons (e.g., much more intuitive and functional that the Dell 1600n I have for comparison)

So-So:

* Paper handling is fine, but the manual feed entrance is placed directly on top of the paper tray cover, making it somewhat hard to access and adjust, and not well-suited for placement below desk level (we have ours under the desk, which makes manual feed setup a pain).

* Some of the less-used setup options, especially for the fax, can only be done at the front panel, not from the PC control panel, which would be much easier and faster to use.

* The ADF paper support sticks up at a 45-degree angle, making the overall height of the unit more than in needs to be, especially since it''s so compact overall. An ADF design that feeds paper from closer to horizontal would have been nice.

* Somewhat small toner capacity, but not really a liability for use in an office that minimizes paper production. Usually, small toner capacity is associated with slow speed, which is not the case here.

Minus:

* Really nothing so far. Time will tell as to durability.

Using HP Vivera inks this paper really shows its stuff. My only quibble is that it could be slightly thicker like the HP Premium Plus.

I paint a lot and need good photo paper to reference from. The images printed out great. Good bargain for the price!

This is excellent, instant dry paper that will last longer than a traditional lab print. I have sun-fade tested many ink/paper combs over the years and can safely say this stuff is as good as the leading edge Epson ink/paper combo at more reasonable price. (The high end Epson''s are considered by many photographers to be the best, true-photographic inkjet around) Framed and under glass, this paper (when used with real HP ink)is fantastic!

A long time fan of the Epson Glossy Photo paper, I found it harder to buy in bulk. Reviews for the HP were very good so I tried. I can''t wait till it''s used up. It''s thinner stock than the Epson which feels flimsy for a photo. HP prints their name on the back in black lettering which is sometimes seen through the image. Finally, I''m not wowed by the look, it just seems a bit flat.

This product was as expected and arrived ahead of the estimated delivery date. Just a few notes about the product that other might find helpfulthere are 100 transparencies in the box and they do not have a sensing strip, so they may not work with some photocopiers.

For those considering this overhead transperency film, only order it for use with laser printers or laser copy machines. It is not intended for inkjets and needs the laser fuser to "burn in" the image. It works great with the correct printer/copy machine.

This paper won''t work in an ink jet printer, which is not surprising since it says on a box "Transparency Film for Copiers". For this price I will not return it but use as "write-ons."

We use it with dry erase markers in consumable workbooks so I can re-use the book with the next kid since we homeschool. This brand seems to be a little harder to erase and we have to use the expo spray (or anything with rubbing alcohol (like hand sanitizer) to remove the dry erase.
