Overall this is another nice printer from HP. We bought the TN networked version including PostScript capability for our Home Office where both my wife and I print from our respective computers and/or laptops. The setup and install of the network configuration drivers is a snap. Our network has a DHCP/Firewall device to share the cable modem and this printer works great in this "floating IP address" configuration. The print speed is good and the 1200 DPI resolution/print quality is notably better than our other HP-6P printer we still use as well.I have only two compaints about the printer. First, in this day and age the Ethernet should be 10/100-BaseT capable. We knew it didn''t have the support when we bought it, but it doesn''t seem worth the extra money to buy the more expensive print server that supports it. Again, I think this an expected network feature nowadays. The second complaint is the sound level of the printer. It is definately noisier than the HP-6P that we have. The noise concern is not so much the printing noise as a small fan (I assume) that turns on and off while it sits idle. When there is any background noise going on you don''t notice it, but when I''m working alone it can be distracting at times when it either turns on or off and changes noise levels.
In any case, overall, we like the printer and our happy with the purchase.

My IT people bought me the HP 2100 for use as a personal printer in my university office. I liked it so much that I bought one for my home office to replace an old HP 4L. It has been an excellent purchase and I highly recommend this printer. When working at home, I now have the print speed to download and print out legal decisions from the web or Lexis, which was too painful to contemplate with the slow speeds of the HP 4L. I get 8-10 pages per minute regardless of whether the printer is set for draft or top quality modes. So only the longest legal decisions take more than a couple of minutes. Of course, as a law professor, I''m not often printing out graphics intensive files. Charts and figures do slow down the print speed some, so a more graphics intensive user might want to look at alternatives. I''m also not using it in a network environment at home and, at work, I don''t share it with other users. So, again, your mileage may vary.Both my HP 2100M and 2100TN have been extremely reliable. They are quiet, the paper never jams, they have a reasonably large main paper tray, handle single sheet feeds fine. I''ve generated several camera ready texts on my HP 2100TN using the top quality print settings and had no complaints from readers or publishers, So for a low-volume, mostly text setting, this seems like an ideal printer

I received this printer as a "gift" from a friend whose business no longer required the services of this printer. I knew it had the built-in Ethernet NIC, but I opted to use it instead with my Linksys WPS11 v3.1 print server in wireless mode. While the original software with the WPS11 no longer works with Windows 7, I was able to get it to work using LPS and manually configuring the printer in Windows.The print quality is good; better than my Kodak inkjet printer. Since the toner cartridge in the printer is old, I do get some artifacts, but that should go away when I put in a new cartridge. Speed is decent (8-10 ppm), and it''s not nearly as loud or noisy as some make it out to be. Sure, it makes noise when it prints, but no more than an inkjet printer does.
Print drivers that work with this printer in Windows 7 are the LaserJet 2200 ESC6 drivers. I used this to make mine work and have had no problems.
The printer itself is built like a tank. The replacement toner cartridges are inexpensive here on Amazon as compared to the toner cartridges for other LaserJet printers. The toner cartridge is rated to last around 1200 pages or so. I have not yet had to replace my toner cartridge although I print around 10-40 pages a week. At this rate, it''ll be a LONG time before I have to change toner cartridges!
For the price that this printer is available for on Amazon, I highly recommend this printer. There are others you can get that are probably faster and more up-to-date, but if you want to save some money and get a basic laser printer, the LaserJet 2100 TN is not a bad choice.
Although our printer has a network card, we decided for the sake of installation simplicity to connect it to a Win-95 PC and share it on the network. This resulted in a problem that a Win-NT computer could not access the printer since HP drivers for NT were not fully compatible with drivers for Win-95/98 ...
I''d say its an entry-level laser printer for a workgroup. I would not recommend to buy it for home office in this pricy configuration with two paper trays and a network card.

The downside is, unless you are ok with having fold creases on your pages (folding it back over the pad), you will need to remove each sheet before moving on to the next one. It takes some practice to rip exactly on the perforation for a clean break, but once you get the feel for it, you''ll get it 100%.
Sometimes professors require homework/formula sheets to be exactly 8 1/2" x 11". That''s ok for these legal pads, because although it''s listed as 8 1/2" x 11 1/2", once you remove the sheet at the perforation line, you will lose that extra 1/2 inch.
A major plus for these legal pads are the cardboard backings, because they can work as standalone tables on your lap. This is contrary to most notepads, which are flimsy and require a hard surface--especially when the paper is running low.
As for price, it''s competitive with the market. Buy the 12-pack for extra value.
I recommend these pads for students or business people. Writers and artists may like to look elsewhere, because of the fold creases mentioned above and the difficulty in keeping your work private (no cover).

There are crumpled papers within each pad. This means you never have a flat, smooth, even surface. There are just enough problem pages in each pad to make problems for the whole pad, but not enough that you will give up and just toss the whole pad and order something else. When this thing works it''s wonderful, but I have had some problems. First a note on troubleshooting problems. Don''t talk TOO LOUD. I had to turn the sensitivity down on mine. This unit is so sensitive that it sometimes hears too many sounds to accurately understand what you are saying. This is the opposite of what most people would instinctively do. Most people try to talk louder if they think someone can''t hear them. You may also have to mute the TV if it is too loud.Pros(Besides the obvious):
1. It has a very strong built in magnet that allows you to put it on your refrigerator just at your speaking level, never gets lost and items stay on list until you remove them, even if you take out a battery.
Cons:
1.There are some words that it seems to refuse to recognize, no matter what you do. (i.e. I tried to add calendar to my smartshopper and no matter how many times I improved voice recognition, it would not recognize it. I even removed collander from the smartshopper so there was nothing similar. That didn''t help. It kept coming up with the most rediculous suggestions to what I had said that were not even remotely similar. I finally ended up adding wall calendar instead.)
2. Again, talk softly.
3. Sometimes mine freezes up and sticks on Record Now. I can usually break this by taking a battery out and putting it back and then it works fine again.
So when it works I love this, when it doesn''t I hate it. I have learned over the last couple of months to deal with its quirks, so I mostly love it.

This product really does work as advertised. The pre-loaded list of items is impressive. And it''s not difficult to train the device to recognize new items. One tip: Try to speak as naturally as possible. I''ve noticed that if you over-enunciate, sometimes the device gets confused. Pears sounds to it like jars, for example. I think the device tends to focus on syllables, as opposed to individual letters, so talk normally to it. When my partner taught it half-and-half, he didn''t try to say each word. He just said, "haf-n-haf," the way he normally would. Also, don''t pre-suppose that there are individual items it doesn''t know. For example, it doesn''t just recognize "cheese." It knows many kinds of cheeses. A big help would be if they''re was a way to edit a long list, as they do tend to grow, with the ability to print out a partial list of the main items for those frequent quick stops in between payday for a few items. Just an idea that I know would help me & others like myself who find themselves with a mile long list for ''grocery/errand days'' and the need to make a shorter list without deleting the main one.
Maybe that''ll be the next, updated version. I still think it''s way over priced for most.

Printing is flawless with both, Windows and Mac PCs (you have to download the Mac software from the Canon website, no biggie).
The painful part, and the reason why I gave it 3 stars, is that the firmware is cumbersome for scanning. I should be able to go up to the machine, select the PC to which i want the scan to go (assume for a moment that they are all on the same, secure subnet and that I have allowed access to the PC storage) and have the scan go there. Alternatively, start the whole process from the PC and then just put the papers to be scanned in the scanner, hit a button linking the PC''s scan request to the action, and done.
No, instead you have to go back and forth between the machine you want the scan to end up on, interact with the Canon software on the pc, and the firmware selection on the scanner.
I hope Canon fixes this with an upgrade. It''s a pain in the rear and it makes the value of a networked scanner significantly diminished.

My old Dell multi-function printer gave up the ghost, and I chose this model to replace it. The primary attractions were the low price (at least until you have to buy toner), and the feature set. I don''t use this printer a whole lot, and have even less use for the scanner and fax. I probably print 10 pages a week, send a dozen faxes a year, and scan the very occasional document. In short, just above the level where it makes sense to rely on the local copy shop.=== The Good Stuff ===
* The installation was fairly simple and foolproof. It connected to my network (wired) with a minimum of fuss, and no problems loading any of the drivers onto a couple Windows7 or XP computers. It got an IP address from my router with no problems, but did not seem to report a description (name) back to the router. The acid test: The UPS guy dropped it off at 3:30, and at 4:15 the first test page came out. And half of that time was wrestling with the styrofoam packing and trying to read the small, grey type in the quick install guide.
* Output is crisp and sharp. Most of what I do is text, so no complicated graphics on this printer. The output has a nice contrast level. The printer seems reasonably fastit meets my standard of being ready to pick up my document by the time I walk down the hall to where the printer lives.
* The fax function works as you would expect. There are 4 preset phone number buttons (in addition to the address book) that let you fax with 3 button presses (FAX, the address button and start). The fax memory seems reasonably deepit took at least 10 pages into memory with no problems, and is smart enough to scan new faxes while still sending previous ones.
* I have only tried one scan, and that came out finewith reasonable resolution and acceptable color for office brochure types of things. You won''t confuse the output with a high quality photo scanner.
* I have printed about 50 pages and faxed about the same amount, and so far no paper jams of any sort. I use whatever paper WalMart had for a couple bucks a ream. The faxes involved receipts taped to copy paper, which the document handler was able to handle without issue.
* Putting all these together, I''d consider the purchase a success, although there were some negatives that were disappointing (see below).
=== The Not-So-Good Stuff (in no particular order)===
* The printer is an odd configuration. I placed it on my standard height desk, and that makes it easy to access the feeder mechanism/platen assembly from the top. However the controls are a little awkward, since the front is flat and not angled upward toward the user. I find myself always crouching down to see the buttons or read the display. As soon as I get to it, I will build a stand to elevate the printer.
---UPDATE 1/29/13 Thanks to JAW for pointing out (see comments) that the control panel does tilt up and lock. It just took more force than I was willing to try at first, but made a big improvement.
* I hate the paper input/output handling. While the picture on Amazon makes it look like a cube, if you use the paper input tray, it sticks out a few inches in front, just begging to be banged into. Similarly, there is no real output "tray", just a 2" flat strip with a fold-up stop at the end. It works OK, unless there is the slightest hiccup in how the output exits the printer-in which case your output is all over the floor.
* The controls seems unnecessarily fussy. As an example, to get a report on your fax activity takes at least 10 button pushes. And the report is only numbers dialed/pages sent. I miss the option on my Dell to print the front page of the fax as part of the report.
Other menu items seemed similarly over-complicated. Scanning seems to have a multitude of options, all of which seem to require a trip back to the PC. The old Dell had a "scan to USB" function that let you dump output to a USB jump drive, a feature I miss. Similarly, I am still not sure how to set up the fax machine to never answer the phone unless I press a key, despite a three-page description in the manual.
Most of the menus seem to be 3 or more levels deep, meaning there seems to be a lot of button pushing to make any selections. The "enter" option on the menus also have a strange functionality to it-the cursor always seems to default to a "+" option rather than "enter".
* There is no status display info on a fax being sent to tell you pages or percentage sent. I didn''t have any Tx errors, so not sure if/how it reports those or what retry attempt it makes. There is no indication of how full the scan memory is.
* The printer comes with a starter toner cartridge, so you have everything you need to start printing as soon as you open the box...with the exception of paper and cables. This printer does not have the ability to connect to your network wirelessly, so you will need a cable.
If you want to connect this unit directly to your computer with a USB cable, you will need a Type A male to Type B male connector. Here is an example, there are obviously many more colors and lengths to choose from AmazonBasics Hi-Speed USB 2.0 A-Male to B-Male Cable (6 Feet / 1.8 Meters).

=== Summary ===
As with anything that you don''t design and build yourself, there are always some things that you''d like to see done differently. While there are some shortcomings with this printer, for my modest printing needs it seems more than adequate as a printer, copier, scanner and fax. The user interface is terrible, and if you are the type to always fiddle with some setting, this will be problematic. I tend to be the "set and forget" type, so not a major deal for me.
For the price, even counting the new cartridge, this printer seems like a great deal for a non-power user, occasional printer. I doubt it would stand up to an office with any sort of printing volume, and I don''t believe the status and reporting functions make it a good fit for a multi-user environment.

Bought the Canon laser printer-scanner-copier-fax for its multiple functions, all of which are well-used for home business. Compact design and quality printing. Initial problem was that Canon did not have Mac drivers and their rep said "expected before the end of the year" (purchased in September)! However, in fact, Mac drivers were up in 10 days, prior to our returning it. Had to call Canon support to set-up -it was straightforward, but trick is that you must hit "OK" at every step. This is the best printer I''ve ever owned. It does it all, and does it well. It barely uses any power in energy saving mode, yet wakes up and begins printing a document before I get to the printer. Scanning can be a bit confusing if you haven''t done it in a while, but usually a sheet fed scanner costs more than this device. Copying is super simple. I don''t have a land line, so I''ve got nothing to say regarding the Fax capability, but who faxes anything anymore? The Ethernet interface is quite handy, allowing me to consolidate onto one device. And given the USB interface, I figure I''m pretty much future proof. The printer was fairly easy to set up, once the software was loaded onto the computers. I''m impressed. (BTW, I initially mentioned the wireless interface; it was mentioned in the documentation that came with the printer, but doesn''t apply to this model.)

I had to constantly tweak the printer settings to get the right colors. Not only that, I heard the prints would eventually turn orange over a period of time! I was about to give up on the printer, but then came along the colorlife papers.
Every print that I made with the colorlife papers have come out a near perfect match with its onscreen counterpart. The quality is terrific with vivid colors and great detail. The printout feels and looks like a real profressional quality print! Overall, I am very satisfied with this paper. I found it works really well with my Mac and Image Capture, the utility app that comes with all Macs. That way I bypassed the Epson scanner app that came with the scanner. By using Image Capture I can adjust resolution and select whatever area I choose to scan. It works flawlessly! BUT, be sure to go to the Epson website and download the "fix-it" update for Image Capture.
Now to the scanning of old negatives and film slides. WOW! it works great with film slides (I don''t have any negatives to try scanning those). I used the Epson scanning software for this. It scans 4 slides at once. Some other reviewers complained about the the resolution being not so good. Apparently they didn''t figure out that resolution can be ADJUSTED! Epson offers 3 modes with their software: Home, Business, and Pro. When scanning slides I used the Home set. Here are my settings:
Document type: Positive Film (Slides are usually NOT negative picture)
Image Type: Color:
Destination: Other (allows you to set resolution)
Resolution: 400 dpi (Any more takes too long to scan, any less the picture looks fuzzy)
Target size: 4x6
Do NOT use color restoration. The pics can be adjusted much easier in other applications.
I''ve already scanned hundreds of pics. Once you do a few, you will get into a groove.
DOWNSIDE: The scanning of 4 pictures using the above method takes about 6 minutes. Find a good book to read while you wait and if you have hundreds of slides, be prepared to spend your evenings scanning:)
UPSIDE: Totally worth the money. I highly recommend the Epson V330 scanner!

I wanted a dedicated scan-only scanner that was small, could do multiple photos, some scan from albums, some slides,and be covenient to scan while playing on-line poker. The primary purpose is to convert a few thousand family photos from 40+ years of marriage and some family photos and slides going back 100 years.The Epson has done all of that. And very well. The scans are quiet and quick. Several photos may be done at once. Color and B&W may be mixed. It is easy to correct some photo flaws, and to re-orient photos. Once in a while the scanner does not perceive that multiple photos are discrete and captures them as a combined image. This is easily corrected.
I would purchase this again.

I used it around 4 days after the date that I purchase. I feel very please with it. It was very easy to setup with windows xp pro. but it just a little bit take time to install additional software that come with its CD.
The scanning speed is very fast (no warm up time) and both text and photo provide a good result. I am doing printing business and sometime my client asked me to produce the same color output as their original document. As I know each device has a difference color gamut, the color won''t give accurate 100% but this printer could help me to archive the result around 90%. I understand about this.
Scanning from the negative film also clear and beautiful. Plus, the the additional software is very helpful especially arcsoft scan-n-stitch. This could help me to save a lot of $ for A3 scanner while sometime I need to scan A3 document for my customer. It just a little bit take time compare to A3 scanner. The OCR software also a plus but I rarely to use it.
There are only two point that I found difficult using this scanner, it related to the layout of the scanner. First it is a little bit difficult to open the scanner cover. There is a little space for our finger to catch the cover to open for scan a document. Second if I open the cover for 180 degree to scan a book, the cover of the scanner would sit on the USB and power cable. That would be inconvenient for position of the scanner cover. Epson to change this designed port. This is the reason that I gave it only 4 stars.
Finally, this is the best scanner on the market for photo, document and film scanner with the affordable price.

I ordered this scanner based on a recommendation in a recent issue of Popular Photography magazine. I''ve had it for almost a month now and have used it mostly for scanning 35mm slides (up until a few years ago when I bought a digital camera, my primary film for shooting was slide film). I have scanned some older b&w and color photo prints as well, ranging in size from 2x3 inches to 8x10 inches.The scanner powers up quickly and scans accurately. I wish the resolution on the slides was better (sharper), but for printed photos the resolution is excellent.
The scanner includes software for photo retouching & fixing, but I''ve not yet used that as I already have Corel (formerly Jasc''s) Paint Shop Pro ("poor man''s Adobe Photoshop"). The scanner produces the images as jpg files and uses an Epson color space scheme, but my Paint Shop Pro has no problem reading and converting that to a non-proprietary color space scheme.
Overall I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it for someone looking for a reasonably priced, capable scanner.

SET-UP:
Once I unboxed this beast (it''s quite a bit heavier and larger than my previous printer: HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One Printer), it took a few minutes to check the box contents and untape parts that were immobilized as part of packaging.
A very basic (10) step sheet with pictures and minimal directions directs you how to install the two print heads, four ink cartridges, the HP automatic two-sided printing accessory (duplexer) and load the paper. It also shows you for PC or Mac computers how to hook up the printer via a usb cord, ethernet (internet cord) or via a wireless home network (found in the Getting Started Guide).
Once you power up the printer it takes approximately 20 minutes to go through a series of checks prior to asking you if you want to ''update''. As I''d already established a wireless connection with the printer by following the prompts on the touchscreen and entering my home network''s security code, I had it do an update which took about 5 minutes. All in all, the 25-30 minutes the all-in-one spent getting ready for use was no big deal. It took me about 45 minutes to get it set-up prior to that time, and I''m fairly savy about such things. The directions that come with it rely heavily on drawings and had to be referred to frequently at least for me.
So a little over an hour into set-up I installed the software on my primary computer. This took about 10 minutes. Later I also went to the HP site and got the very basic drivers (a 64MB download) for the printer to install on 2 laptops (Vista 64-bit and Windows 7), 1 netbook (Windows XP) and 2 desktops (Vista 64-bit and Windows XP). All the computers installed the drivers quickly and easily, and once installed printed wirelessly off the 8500A. I was amazed with that one... no hic-ups with drivers?!
I also went to iTunes and got a free app: HP iPrint Photo. Once loaded on your iTouch or iPhone you can use it to send photos or documents to print to this printer, or any HP printer (I''m assuming other non-HP printers won''t work with this app) connected to your network. It worked with both the 8500A and the 6300 (hardwired to my router).
Between the unboxing, untaping, installing of ink and printer heads, the all-in-one''s auto set-up and software installation, getting this one up and running took about 1.5 hours. That''s much longer than most printers I''ve wrestled with in the past, but I did take my time and gently worked each step.
The only device I did not get linked to the 8500A was my phone: Nokia E71 Unlocked Phone with 3.2 MP Camera, 3G, Media Player, GPS with Free Voice Navigation, Wi-Fi, and MicroSD Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (White). I tried multiple times to get it to recognize the printer, but thus far, nothing. I''ll continue to work on it.

"What does all this mean?" Ideally, if you buy this one you''ll get a wireless printer, scanner, copier, fax machine, that may cost you a bit less to print the same number of pages with another printer and gives you laser printer quality and speed. At least in theory, but time will tell if that pans out.

What I disliked about it...
The machine took a long time to set-up for initial use, and it goes through a lot of checks (for about 30-60 seconds) before it can be used if powered off and turned back on.
Makes a lot of noise while it''s printing! Thankfully...it prints quickly, and it isn''t as noisy while scanning, copying or faxing.
-The size is a bit bigger than I''d hoped for and it weighs about 25 pounds, but it does a lot and ''compact'' was not one of its selling points.
The printing of photos is nice, but leaves regular paper soggy. You need to use HP Premium Presentation Paper or HP Premium Photo Paper, glossy (100 sheets, 4 x 6-inch borderless) to get the right look and feel.
Time will tell if ink costs are less or not, but to replace all the cartridges at one time will be a bit expensive. HP 940xl Black, Regular Capacity Cyan, Magenta, Yellow Not overly expensive when compared with other HP ink cartridges, so I wonder where the claim ''50% lower cost per page'' comes from?
-HP included software has some unnecessary stuff on it that loads on your computer if you''re not aware enough of what to ''uncheck'' to stop it before you install the software. HP is notorious for this type of thing and can be very irksome.
-The HP Apps installed on the machine are minimal at this time. You can print off daily news stories from Yahoo, weather reports, puzzles, recipes, etc..., but for me, at least right now, the apps are more fluff than substance. You have to go online to do your settings and establish an ''email address'' for your printer, instead of using the touchscreen to do all of it. Sort of defeating the purpose of the screen and wireless capabilities at least for setup.
-HP Apps failed to work every time. When I tried to get a daily summary for Yahoo, it couldn''t retrieve the info. I went to the HP ePrintCenter online, and it said my printer was offline. I refreshed it and it still didn''t work. I then turned off my printer and turned it back on. It was then recognized online and printed via the app within 5 seconds. This was after I had setup my account and HP said all was well. **A few bugs need to be worked out, but this is probably a network/software glitch and may be just with the Yahoo app.
My CONCLUSION:
It''s a good e-All-in-One with cool web and file transfer possibilities, but a noisy printer. The cost is a bit high for a wireless all-in-one, but the web features and eco-friendly printing may be worth the price boost.
I''m excited to have a wireless printer that installed so easily on my home network and can be placed anywhere in my home. I love the scanner, and look forward to scanning old photos more quickly than my old scanner.
I also like the ability to send photos from my iTouch or iPhone to the printer wirelessly. The touchscreen was a great addition and it works well. It''s a stand-alone device in many ways, and doesn''t need to be tethered to a computer to copy or fax, which I like too.
Overall, the Officejet Pro 8500A Wireless e-All-in-One seems to be a solidly built office tool that will appeal to home office users and families who want its many functions and a lower cost per page.

This is still my ''go to'' printer and the one networked to all the other computers and wireless devices on my home network (10 in all). Ink costs have been very low as it does seem to sip versus suck down ink. Print quality has not suffered because of it and I''ve been very happy with print quality on regular paper as well as photo paper.
After updating one computer from Vista to Windows 7 I did run into an occasional problem. The printer would forget that it was on the network and I would have to do the ''search for new printer'' thing to get it recognized. Recent Win 7 updates seem to have fixed this problem.
Another issue has been with the ''scan to computer'' feature. It won''t do it via the network, instead I have to put in a media device and transfer the file to that before taking it over to the computer. A pain, and probably something to do with security settings on the network that I''ve just not figured out yet. I did upgrade my wireless router and that may be an issue with those two not getting along.
Overall I''m still very pleased with this printer. I see it as a great choice for busy families, a home office or a college dorm room.

Printer problems continued regarding the driver, until a recent update. The printer asked if I wanted to install the update, and when I OK''d it, it installed it and things have been smooth sailing ever since regarding commands from the PC and the touchpad.
A reoccurring issue is that occasionally the mechanism that grabs the paper to print doesn''t engage and when I attempt to assist it, a jam occurs. This is frustrating, but not a deal breaker. I find that less paper in the holder helps to make this an infrequent event.
Another reoccurring issue is that when I go to scan from the touchpad and send the scan to a USB drive I''ve placed into the port on the memory card reader, I get ''memory card error''. Doesn''t seem to matter if it''s a freshly formatted drive or not, and the only thing that seems to clear the error is to restart the machine with the USB drive plugged in versus plugging it in after it''s already ''on''.
Ink longevity with this one is tremendous! Perhaps one of its greatest strengths. The ink costs are high by comparison to some printers, but they seem to last forever so I think it all works out in the end.

Printer is still kicking along nicely, however issues with dropped wifi connectivity have plagued me with this one. I tried assigning it a static IP address, and it would still lose the connection. Oh it says ''connected'' and ''ready'', but won''t print. A reinstallation of the drivers for this series works temporarily, but not for long.
Today I noted that drivers for this model were not showing up in my Windows 7 driver updates. I chose the closest to it I could find for the HP Officeject Pro K850, and so far, it''s working. I don''t know what''s up, but I''m holding my breath and crossing my fingers.

I have been using the basic HP desk-jet printer for a long time and never thought of upgrading until i got the 8500A.The printer is big in size but it justifies that in robustness. It solid and fast.
The wireless works perfectly and now i can print from any laptop without cables (2 PCs and 1 Mac)
the Ethernet is a plus and used rarely when i have a lot of pages to print but so far i needed it only once.
I haven''t tried using the USB since wireless is to good.
The printer is fast photocopy machine and works in both color and BW.
It prints on two sides which is excellent if you mind saving papers, not to mention its low usage of the toners.
The web interface was a bit tricky to setup but after that, I tried printing from the office and it scared the maid in the house as the printer started printing and she got scared and turned it off.
I don''t use the fax option but its a plus option.
The printer has a touch control panel and can do most its configurations and functions without even using a pc or mac to control.
Positives:
* The Speed is the biggest plus in this printer and the double sided printing is an very welcome.
* Wireless printing rocks and helps you put the printer in a remote room in the house or a under the stairs without looking obtrusive on the office desk.

This wireless all-in-printer is probably the best printer I''ve owned, despite the fact that it arrived with a broken control panel. It prints very fast, the print quality is good, it has a lot of interesting and useful features, and it is not only wireless but you can install it wirelessly (not true for all wireless printers).Setup involved eight steps which were pretty straightforward except for the fact that the printer heads were a little cumbersome to get in. However, the ink cartridges slid right in (simplest I''ve seen) so it will be a breeze to change ink cartridges. Installation went fairly smoothly. It took a little bit of time (about twenty minutes) but it is a wireless all-in-printer after all. In the past I''ve always had various problems when installing wireless all-in-printers (Canon Pixma MX860 all-in-one, HP Photosmart C6180 all-in-one, HP Officejet 7410). I''ve had to deal with faulty software, firewalls causing problems, or advertised features that were actually not present. That was not the case for this printer, except for the fact that the numerical keypad on the control panel did not work. This meant that I could not type in my encryption key. However, this printer features a WPS option, and my router had a WPS button (broadcasting the key), so I was able to complete the installation. I should add the LCD touch screen worked. It was just keypad.
I used HP 24/7 chat to contact technical support about the control panel. I was connected in 20 seconds and the tech support was efficient, free, courteous, and friendly. We just needed to verify that the panel was indeed broken. I have had good experience with HP customer and tech support before. Canon''s tech support is better than that of Adobe, AT & T, and of course, much better than Microsoft and Comcast. However, Canon''s tech support still lags behind that of HP (in my opinion). Anyway, HP is sent me another printer at no charge, and I am returning this one at no charge. In the mean time I have gotten good use of it. I should say it is the kids who are using the most.
I should add that you can, naturally, connect the printer via Ethernet cable, or USB cable. However, I just like to have everything on my wireless networks and install everything without using cables.
As mentioned by others, this all-in-one printer features a lot of functionality, first the all-in-one functionality, print, copy, fax, and scan. It features double sided printing, photo printing from USB flash drive, mobile device connectivity, limited printing from the web via the LCD touch screen, and a feature I found really interesting. You can copy both sides of an ID card (or a smaller document) onto one side of a paper.
As I mentioned I am impressed by the speed of the printer. It is rated 35 pages per minute for black and 34 pages per minute for color. I found that to be close to the truth even for a very high resolution picture. To test the speed of the printer I printed four very high resolution photographs on two printers at the same time on 8.5 X 11 inch paper (I have three printers on my home network, and let them race). The conclusion was that this printer is four times faster than the HP Photosmart C6180 all-in-one printer and twelve times faster than the Canon Pixma MX860 all-in-one printer.
The print color resolution is 4,800 X 1,200 which is good but not over the top (scan is 4,800 X 4,800). I don''t think you need more. However, I compared the prints with the other printers that I own. As far as I can tell the resolution is equally good between the printers (extremely high detail) but the colors and the contrast came out the best on the Hewlett Packard Officejet 8500A all-in-one wireless printer. Other than it being a little heavy and a little noisy I have no particular complaints about this printer.
Despite the fact that I really like this printer I feel I should give it four rather than five stars because, after all, the control panel was non-functional upon arrival.

With the lines in the best quality prints, eating my 2 sided prints, print heads going out, expensive ink, then using the time it takes to figure out why its not printing and then the time it takes to cancel what is in "que", it is NOT worth it.
I unpacked printer, removed packaging, put in printheads and toners and turned on. Kept getting Cartridge jam "remove packaging." But I verified there was NO MORE packaging inside. I finally called their "support" and wasted 30 minutes talking to someone who was absolutely no help and couldn''t even answer my basic questions whether some of the insides I saw were correct. He first told me it was probably power supply, which sounded ridiculous. Then I heard bad clunking on one of my numerous retries to print. He just said "probably defective." I had already performed the time-consuming software installation also with problems.
So now I have to package it all up and return TOTAL TIME WASTED= 3 hours
I give up on HP have had constant problems with every HP printer I''ve purchased after my old reliable LJ4.

I have gone through two Brother HL-1250 printers that use this cartridge and it''s a real work horse. I''ve printed as many as 900 or 1000 pages in one day and it just keeps humming along. I once tried to refill the toner myself and that was a disaster...black pages started coming out! And yes I did empty the old cartridge before refilling it. Now I just buy the toner cartages. Its nice to be able to print a big document without worrying about jams or spending a fortune...or having to load paper that often. I now use the pre-punched paper and my printing is easy and cheap! The cartridge gets about 5,000 to 6,000 pages and the drum unit gets about 25,000 pages... so cost per page not including paper is around 1.4 cents. Not too bad.Perfect for text and internet web pages ect. Pics come out good for a monochrome but nothing fantastic. Maybe its my HL-1250? Graphic artist or people doing high end work or high volume printing may want something better... but for my 900 to 1,800 pages per month needs... its perfect.

Having just recently purchased this printer, I''m extremely surprised at how happy I am. I have messed around with a lot of Inkjet printers for the purpose of making 4x6 photos. However I was always disappointed with the difficulty of just getting the picture output on the paper correctly. Also, larger format photo printers typically cost more and require special 6 color ink. I''m still uncertain as to what the cost per page is. I have a feeling that it will end up being about the same as using online photo services such as Ofoto or Shutterfly. A replacement Ink Cartridge costs around (current price), and HP paper is about (current price) for 20 sheets. I''m guessing that the ink cartridge lasts for about 100 photos which brings the cost per page to about .65 cents a page. That''s a bit more than online which is around .50 cents a page (excluding shipping). I find that the quality is about the same, so for a few extra cents a page you get a photo in a matter of minutes rather than days. However, for large print jobs I''d still recommend the online photo shops.
Anyway, it''s a great value for the money and it will sure to be an excellent traveling companion for vacations.

I have been looking for a photo printer since I got my digital camera, and I finally settled on the HP100. I have to say that I have found nothing but pleasant surprises since the day I took it out of the box. I have a number of photo quality printers and I find myself printing 4x6 prints 99% of the time and this printer really is easy to use... no fusing with paper size, print size etc.

Negatives:
HP print longevity (lightfastness). You will need to send your prints out to a commercial service like Ofoto if you want to put them in a long term album. Prints will fade in a few years...fine if your just showing them around the office and rotating them through your frames etc. This is a problem with ALL inkjet printers, not just HP. Some claim longer "lightfastness" (like Epson) but only time will tell ! Note: I have some HP prints on my office wall that are almost 5 years old with no fading...so ????
Bottom Line:GET IT ! If you want a quick way to print 4x6 prints from your digital camera to show your friends around the office and send to relatives (who really don''t keep those pics of your kids that long anyway !) the P100 is the ticket. You''ll find yourself printing off your data card (vs. the computer) a lot more than you think you will ! Excellent quality prints that beat the 1 hour print.

I''m not sure if others had the same problem, but downloading this software was extremely difficult and complicated. It took me a few hours just to get it right compared with my other 2 printers which were pretty much plug and play. Luckily this printer came with a very good ''English'' only manual that did a very good job of pointing out mistakes. The computer software gives you the options of organizing your photos, and minor editing features such as color balance, red eye removal, brightening or darkening of the picture. There are very few options when printing from ''PicBridge".
This was my main gripe about this printer, because I read that PicBridge does give you the option to edit photos inside the camera, but NOT with this printer ! The printer came with 1 pack of 25 sheet 4X6 paper, but I ordered 3 more packs 50 4X6, 25 5X7 and 25 8X10 Glossy sheets, because I wanted to see how the printer performed under different conditions. For plain old text this printer is great, very fast and very sharp. You can get an A4 in about 1 minute.
For photos, this printer has a tendency to underexpose(darken) your pictures. My best prints are the ones that were originally over exposed by about 1 stop. I called Canon about this and after the service Rep took 3 minutes to read the manual over the phone, he told me that my best bet would be to over expose my pictures by 1 stop when using this printer. I figure I could live with that since my camera has automatic over/under exposure compensation, but it''s still a hassle.
How did the prints come out. I would say I got some very acceptable looking pictures in all three formats 4X6, 5X7 and 8X10 in about 4 minutes. The colors match up well and there was no smudging even when using Glossy paper. I would say that somebody at a Special Event, or at a Fair might find the prints from this printer very acceptable indeed. Whereas someone paying for a professional portrait, or fine art work would not. The minute details are just not there. To be fair, however, I have not tried all the types of papers this printer can handle and which might give me better results than plain old Glossy.
Durability ? The printer is solidly built. I wouldn''t call it a Tank, but it does feel pretty solid. I still think that for travel, a padded case or taveling bag would be a very wise purchase. One thing though the paper feeder door latches are made of flimsy plastic and don''t look durable at all. I figure they are going to be the first to go.
I haven''t used this printer much to say whether I love it or hate it. So far it does a pretty good job of printing Color and B&W prints on the go. You can also print custom made stickers and labels with it. Not bad especially the stickers part.
One thing the manual does not mention is the amount of prints you can get from a single ink cartridge. I called Canon about this and they were pretty evasive about it, rather stating that it depends on the situation. Finally a rep told me that you could get about 185 4X6''s on the Black ink catridge. About 400 4X6s with the Color ink cartridge. I found those numbers astronomical since I dont think my much bigger Epson printer can get as many prints from a single cartidge. Maybe the rep though I was talking about Text ? I''ll just have to wait and see.

This printer is great for light volume, high quality printing. What I love most about it is that it can print 8.5" x 11" sheet and it is only the size of a book. It is lighter than a dictionary. It does not print as fast as a Laser Ink Jet but fast enough.The ink cartridges are small, but it was expected because the whole printer is so small! The black one lasts 2 to 3 months before we replace with a new one. We only print on the average 4 pages a week in our household so it has not been a problem for us. My experience is that one black ink cartridge is good for printing about 60 to 70 pages of average contents such as expense reports, boarding pass, maps... Not too dense. Our color ink lasts a bit longer because we seldom print photo. It does have a low ink warning which I often ignore till the print becomes too faint. And I wish the blue tooth adapter was built in but you have to buy additionally.
I got this printer from another online retailer at a great price but it arrived not working. The printer head refused to feed paper. We went to the Canon website and found out our local Canon authorized service. We took it in and they fixed the problem within 2 or 3 days free of charge. The cost was covered by warranty. We are quite pleased with the product and the service.

This printer is pretty pricey at retail compared to other offerings on the market, especially when coupled with the LK-51B battery and the BU-10 Bluetooth adapter. However, it''s a very compact, lightweight, and rugged printer that fits nicely in my backpack, and can print on full-sized 8.5x11 paper. Buying from Amazon during a sale netted me a very decent savings off MSRP.Photo quality on photo paper is very, very good. Text quality on normal inkjet paper is not perfect, but is more than adequate for most purposes, and is comparable to that of my larger Canon Pixma iP6600D.
If you buy it to use with a notebook on the go, get the LK-51B battery. With the battery, I was able to shoot digital photos for damage reporting, download them to my notebook, and then print them off on 4x6 photo paper at a lease signing in a house with no electricity. Very convenient!

I''m now at my 3rd Canon travel printer, and still very happy with them! I was looking for a wireless printer and for battery energy. Now I have both, Bluetooth which works perfectly well. I''m amazed about the longevity of the battery! Printing quality is perfect for my needs... (I make my own picture "postcards" which get admired by everybody I send them to)The quality of color output (up to 8 x 10) is at least the equivalent of my Pixma IP 5000 or the Epson Photo R2400 sitting alongside the Canon. To be more accurate, I couldn''t see any relative difference in the printed images until I put the prints under a glass. Of course, speed of the iP90v falls short of the 5000 or the 2400. Color quality and density, as measured, falls within reasonable margin(s).
